M.Eng. In Ottawa, on February 17, 2003, in his 87th year. Beloved husband for 59 years of Maria Haapalainen. Born in Montreal, son of the late Dr. Wesley Bourne and Sara McGillis. Dear father of Diana (Robert Halpin). Brother of Barbara Krupski (Hank), Dr. Robert Bourne (Janet) and the late Col. John Bourne (Joan). Also survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends. A graduate of McGill University in Electrical Engineering, he served as a Major in the Canadian Army Signal Corps. during WWII. His professional years were with Northern Electric, Bell Canada and his own language school. Among his passions were physical fitness, Nordic skiing, to which he made many contributions, and sailing, including a trans-Atlantic voyage to Finland. He dedicated his time to many organizations including the Humanist Association of Canada and the Population Institute of Canada. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the above organizations, The Ottawa Heart Institute or a charity of your choice. A Humanist Memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. at the Army Officers' Mess, 149 Somerset St. W., Ottawa.

Peacefully at home Tuesday February 18, 2003, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, Moe Brian age 59. Loving husband of Francine Lalonde. Beloved father of Colin (Candice). Doting "gramps" of Emily. Cherished brother of Beverly (Dave Weller) and Anne Marie (Alan Bigauskas). Predeceased by mother Mathilda Cormier. Fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews: each had a special place in his heart. Thanks to the many doctors and nurses that cared for him during his valiant struggle. GRACE ISABELLA CHAMBERS It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Grace Chambers. Grace passed away Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003 at the age of 86 at the Atikokan General Hospital in Atikokan, Ont. She was born June 30, 1916 in McGillvray Township, Ont. to the late Charles and Agnes Parker. Grace was united in marriage to William James Chambers on Nov. 12, 1935 in International Falls, Mn. They moved to Atikokan from Carpenter Township in 1953. Grace was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Atikokan for almost 50 years, receiving her 25-year pin in 1980. She was an avid quilter who always looked forward to getting together with the Fix-It club. She also enjoyed sewing and gardening. Grace will be greatly missed by her husband, James; children, Don and wife, Yvonne, of Fort Frances, Ont., Laila and husband, Leo Goranson, of McAuley Lake, Ont., and Darrell and wife, Liz, of Atikokan, Ont.; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister, May Hambrook of Calgary, Alta.; brothers-in-law, Dave Chambers and wife, Louise, of Fort Frances, Ont., and Bruce Chambers and wife, Gladys, of Penticton, B.C.; sister-in-law, Lorraine Hatch of Penticton, B.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Fred, Wilton, and Ted Parker; and sister, Amy Hartlen. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003 at 1 p.m. at Riverview United Church in Atikokan. Rev. Gord Waldie will officiate, with interment in Little Falls Cemetery. EDDY (Cyrenne), Gisele Marie Clémente "Gigi" EDDY (Cyrenne), Gisele Marie Clémente "Gigi"-67, Brookfield, passed away February 19, 2003, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Nédelec, Que., she was a daughter of the late Hector and Albertine (Morel) Cyrenne. She moved to Nova Scotia in the late 1950s where she started her career as a French teacher. Known to many of her colleagues, students, friends and family as "Gigi", she truly was a dynamic individual. She graduated from Teacher's College, Amos, Que., at the young age of 18. She began her teaching career in Ottawa and when she moved to Nova Scotia taught at West Colchester High School, Central Colchester High School, Duncan MacMillan High School and finished her career at South Colchester High School where she taught for 12 years. In later years, "Gigi" was often found at church services handing out roses and pink peppermints. She had many passions including singing, music, children, gardening and going for rides looking for deer. She had a love of life and nature. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, teacher and friend. Many "tanks" for many "tings". She is survived by her husband, Norman; sons, Daniel and Frank Lambert, both of Truro; grandson, Matthew Lambert, Sackville; sisters, Mary Paul Dimarino, Ottawa; Ghislaine (Yves) Payette, Rouyn Noranda; Lucienne, Montreal; brother, Yvon (Diane), Montreal; several nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her close friend, Martin MacKay. She was predeceased by daughter, Nicole Marie Lambert; brothers, Bruno, Marcel, Gaston. Loving mother of Catherine Winters (Bert), Theresa, Michael (Jean) and the late Patrick (Carla). Beloved grandmother of Mary Ann and Barbara Winters, Andrea, Jonathan and Bridget Rowan. Cherished great-grandmother of Michael Winters. Marguerite was the last surviving child of George Otterson and Mary Ann Collins. During the last years of her life Marguerite and her daughter Theresa shared a home. As we slowly lost our mother to Alzheimer disease she was lovingly and well cared for by Theresa who was often assisted by Marguerite's oldest granddaughter Mary Ann and her great-grandson Michael Winters with whom she shared a very special bond. THERESE (TERRY) AGAGNIER (nee SUTHERLAND) October 5, 1928-February 15, 2003 On Saturday, February 15 2003, Therese passed away at home, at the age of 74 years. Terry was predeceased by her husband, Edouard in 1974; also by a son Robert, in 1954; sisters, Annette and Jeanine; brothers, Aime and Paul. She is survived by sisters, Rose, Bertha, and Georgette, and brother, Raymond and sister-in-law Adrienne; brothers, Joseph, and Ted. She is survived by son, Ron and beloved daughter-in-law, Kisanya both of Montreal, son, Maurice of Vancouver; grandchildren, Jayson, Tamara, Kevin, Amber, Rachel, Jennifer, and Melanie. Also great-grandchildren Christoffer and Tatianna, Kieran, Kaeden, Kelton, Lucas, Chelsea, and Nicholas. Also numerous nephews and nieces. It is difficult to capture a lifetime in a few sentences. Therese was born in St. Boniface and lived most of her life there. She was a devoted mother and cared deeply for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her good-natured temperament was noticed by all who met her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. She was employed for many years at Western Glove Works in Winnipeg. In her later years she enjoyed the companionship of the caring staff and other members at the St. Boniface Day Hospital and also the Tache Day Centre. Prayer services will be held on Friday, February 21, 2003, at 7:00 p.m. at the Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 rue DesMeurons in St. Boniface. Joséphine M. LeBlanc 1908-2003 Joséphine M. LeBlanc, 95, wife of the late Napoléon LeBlanc of Résidence Beau Séjour, Shediac passed away at the residence on Wednesday, February 19, 2003. Born in Springhille, N.S., February 4, 1908, she was the daughter of the late Amédée Gautreau and the late Angelique Fagan. She is survived by three daughters, Jeannette Belliveau (Bernard) of Bouctouche, Juliette Landry (Ed Stevens) of Parry Sound, ON., Cécile Bourque (Eric) of Mont Joli, QC.; seven sons, Donald (Germaine), Francis (Jeannine), Yvon Guy (Bernice) and Gilles (Rose) all of Grand-Barachois, JeanPaul (Aurella) of Presqu'Ile, Maine, Fernand (Lilianne) of Mississauga, ON., Bernard (Hélène) of Shediac; three sisters, Elizabeth Savoie of Leominster, Mass., Eveline Babineau and Angela Cormier of Moncton; daughter-in-law, Loretta LeBlanc of Grand-Barachois; several grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Napoléon (1969); a son, Valmond; two sisters, Minnie, Ida and three brothers, Aurèle, Donat, Alphée. Paul-Émile Babineau 1941-2003 Paul-Émile Babineau, 61, of Shediac Bridge passed away suddenly at his residence on Tuesday, February 18, 2003. Born in Shediac Bridge, September 10, 1941, he was the son of the late Jude Babineau and the late Dorina Poirier. Prior to his retirement in 1997, he was a school teacher at Trantamar High School. He attended La Visitation R.C. church in Grande-Digue. Paul-Émile is survived by six sisters, Eva (Ovila Doiron), Hélène (Alcide Doiron), Christine (Léo LeBlanc), Lucie Babineau all of Shediac Bridge, Philomène Babineau of Moncton, Annette (Jean-Paul Donelle) of Grande-Digue; two brothers, Oscar (Thérèse Richard), Louis (Jeannette Hébert) of Shediac Bridge; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister Christine. There will be no visiting hours at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be held at La Visitation Roman Catholic Church in Grande-Digue on Friday, February 21, 2003 at 7p.m. Interment in the parish cemetery. ELISABETH (BETTY) H. NEILL In loving memory of Elisabeth (Betty) H. Neill, age 63 years, who died unexpectedly at home, on Saturday, February 15, 2003. She was born November 10, 1939 in Old Hamstocks Mains, East Lothian, Scotland, where she attended public school. She also went to school for one year in Lerwick, Shetland, before moving to Dryden in 1952 where she attended Dryden High School. In 1963 she trained at the Fort Frances LaVerendrye Hospital as a Registered Nurses Assistant, graduating in 1964 with a medal for general proficiency. She returned to Dryden and worked at the Dryden District General Hospital. In 1965 she married David Neill and spent the next 37 years with him. Betty is survived by her husband David; her son Michael, of Dryden; sister, Wilma Chapman, of Fort Frances; brother-in-law, Mervin Neill and his wife Velma, of Wabigoon; niece, Dorothy-Jean Neill and her two children; her aunt Mary Chapman, of Morden, MB.; cousins, Margaret Cove and husband Stanley, of Roland, MB., Catherine Vanstone and husband Charles, of Miami, MB., and Reginald Gibson and wife Brenda, of Scotland. She was predeceased by her mother Marjory in 1982, her father James in 1984, and nephew Jim, in 1993. Funeral services for Betty Neill were held Wednesday, February 19, at 2 p.m. in St. Luke’s Anglican Church, with Rev. Pat Cleghorn officiating. Interment followed in the Dryden Cemetery. NICKELS, Clarice Edith (nee Willoughby) - It is with immense love and sadness that we say goodbye to our dear mother who passed away suddenly on Monday, February 17, 2003. Clarice was the beloved wife for 52 years of the late C. G. "Nick" Nickels. Much loved mother to Pat Allan (Bob), John (Louise) and Wendy White (the late Ron). Mom loved nothing more than spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was the youngest daughter of the late Helen Gertrude (Hilliard) and Dr. John Henry Charles Willoughby. Sister of George Willoughby (Margaret) of Milton and the late Helen Stanbury (Dr. Stuart), Isabel Cowan (William) and Hilliard Willoughby (Doris). Lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews. Clarice was born is Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1906. From an early age she spent her summers at the family island on Stoney Lake where she met and married her childhood sweetheart. Clarice and Nick lived permanently on the lake for 25 years. It was here that they instilled in their children and grandchildren a love for nature, the outdoors and especially "Stoney". WADDELL, Irene Stella (nee Keown) - Irene of Peterborough, formerly of Lindsay - In loving memory of a caring mother and grandmother.
