Au CHSLD Nouvelle-Beauce de Ste-Hénédine, le 7 février 2003, à l’âge de 96 ans et 9 mois, est décédée dame Merilda Roy, fille de M. Louis Roy et de Mme Dézilda Carrier, elle demeurait à Saint-Bernard. Les membres de sa famille accueilleront parents et ami(e)s au Centre Paroissial de Saint-Bernard 551, Vaillancourt lundi, jour des funérailles à compter de 9h. Le service religieux sera célébré le lundi 10 février 2003 à 11h, en l’église de St-Bernard et de là au cimetière paroissial. Elle était la sœur et la belle-sœur de: feu Louis (feu Alida Guay), feu Joseph (feu Albertine Boilard), feu Mary (feu Théophile Poliquin), feu Stanislas (feu Rose-Aimée Grenier), feu Alma (feu Denis Vaillancourt), feu Anna (feu Aimé Roussin) et de feu Camille. Elle laisse également dans le deuil de nombreux neveux, nièces, cousins, cousines et ami(e)s. La famille tient à remercier le personnel du CHSLD pour les bons soins prodigués. Dear father of Alex Lane of Halifax, N.S., Margaret Clark of Dawson Creek, B.C. and 71 Peacefully after a year-long bout with liver cancer. Grove passed away January 7, 2003 at the Kemptville Hospital in Ontario. He was predeceased by his father Hal. MARIANNE VACHON (NÉE GAGNON) est décédée en toute sérénité, le 6 février 2003 au CHSLD de Hull (Foyer du Bonheur). Surnommée ´la femême chanceuseª par son défunt conjoint Irenée Vachon, elle fut, en effet, longuement choyée par la vie et bénie des Dieux. Marianne aura su le rendre à son entourage en leur dispensant, jusqu'à ses derniers instants de vie, son amour et ses paroles réconfortantes. Fière de sa famille, elle se faisait toujours une joie de célébrer la vie avec et auprès d'eux. Elle fut professeur attitrée de 2e année (St-Jean-Bosco) pendant plusieurs années et ses élèves d'alors s'en souviendront comme d'une personne attentionnée, très chaleureuse et dévouée. Elle laisse dans le deuil ses enfants: Camille (José), Marie Paule et Jean-Denis (Pierrette); ses petits-enfants: Vincent-Olivier, Nicholas, Phillip et Alexandra; sa soeur Françoise Gagnon-Jourdain (feu Gérard); sa belle-soeur Thérèse Lapointe-Gagnon (feu Gérard);quelques cousin(e)s, ainsi que de nombreux neveux et nièces, des ami(e)s très proches et surtout très fidèles: Chantal Séguin, André JeanNadon et Marie Dumoulin Bouchard. Une célébration de prières en présence des cendres aura lieu ce dimanche 9 février 2003 à 12h, en la salle cérémoniale de la COOPÉRATIVE FUNÉRAIRE DE L'OUTAOUAIS au 95, boul. de la Cité-des-Jeunes, à Hull. HELENE CHAMMARTIN (nee JULIEN) Peacefully at the Foyer Valade on Thursday February 6, 2003, Mrs. Helene Chammartin of Winnipeg, MB passed away at the age of 79 years. She leaves to mourn her passing six children, Norbert (Alice) of La Salle, Rene (Marie-Reine), Laurent (Odile), Liliane (Norbert) Philippot, Gerald (Annette), Donald (Linda) all of Winnipeg, 11 grandchildren, Denny, Lisa (Brett), Danielle (Cory), Nicole (Jonathan), Julie, Christine, Lucie, Michelle, David, Bryan, Benjamin; and two great-grandchildren, Renee and Dylan. She also leaves to mourn one sister Marie Tichit of Notre Dame de Lourdes. She was predeceased by her husband Paul in 1996; one son Lucien in 1953; three brothers, Baptiste, Privat, Emile; and by four sisters, Virginie, Louise, Augustine and Antoinette. Prayers will be held at Adam's Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 11 at 11:00 a.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated in the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 11 at 2:00 p.m. preceded by Recitation of the Rosary at 1:30 p.m. Interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery. COMEAU, Leo Joseph-90, Weymouth, passed away February 6, 2003, in Tideview Terrace. Born in Weymouth, he was a son of the late Benjamin and Emily (Doucet) Comeau. He was a Legion member, Branch 67, Weymouth. He served in the Second World War, in England, Italy and Continental Europe. He was serving as a RCEME. He worked as a sawyer millwright most of his life in Digby County and Annapolis County. He was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church. Surviving are his companion, Dorothy McCormick; daughters, Edna (James) Stevens, Weymouth; Grace (Terry) Montague, Halifax; son, Arnold (Patricia) Comeau; brother, Fred, Weymouth; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Annabelle; son, Lester; sisters, Grace and Margaret. Cremation has taken place. Legion service 10 a.m. Saturday February 15, in Jayne's Funeral Home, Weymouth North. ENGELBEEN Marie Eveline (nee Desrosiers) was born February 8, 1907 and died February 5, 2003. She was predeceased by her husband Mike and grandson John A. Bishop. Mom will be greatly missed by her daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Joe Schweigel and John and Sharon Bishop; eight grandchildren, Rob (Dione), Jason, Carolyn (Malcolm), Lorraine, Mike (Wendy), Kelly (Marc), Mark (Patti). Susan (Rob) and 12 great-grandchildren. Eveline's father, Magloire Desrosiers, arrived in Vancouver in 1888. He was a tinsmith and hardware store owner, bringing up his family in the downtown area until the move to the family home at 13th and Laurel. Eveline graduated from King Edward High School, went to Normal School, then worked in a law office where she met Mike. Our growing-up years were filled with music as Mom loved playing her beautiful grand piano. She made wonderful angel food cake, knitted beautiful afghans, wore fabulous hats, loved to garden and had a great sense of humour. As Nana, she made cookies for her grandchildren and she delighted in her great-grandchildren. She had a feisty spirit, driving her Oldsmobile until she was 89 and attending concerts until two years ago. The family is very grateful to the staff of Crofton Manor who cared for her and also to Dr. L. Levy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Son of the late Samuel R. McClelland and Daisy M. Greenough. Predeceased by his brothers Rupert, Mason and his sister Audrey Horwitz. Survived by his wife Denise, his son Pierre (Liz and son Andrew) and his brother Kenneth (Noella and daughter Kimberley). Died peacefully on February 4th, 2003 at the General Hospital. He was known for his love of family, his keen mind and his extraordinary determination. He will be remembered with fondness by his cousins, his nieces and nephews and, in France, by his brother and sister-in-law (M. & Mme. G. Seilhean), and his nieces (Danielle and Nathalie Seilhean). His ashes have been laid to rest at the Mausoleum of Remembrance, at Pinecrest Remembrance, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa on Thursday, 6 of February. The family wishes to thank Dr. David Halliday, his personal physician for his undiminished attention through the years; the Heart Institute, in Ottawa and the General Hospital for the exhaustive care Jim received through the years and more particularly in his last days as a patient on the Neurology floor. On Wednesday February 5, 2003, David Howard age 35. Most cherished son of Harry (Newt) Howard and Mary Hudry, of Grimsby. David was a truly gifted individual and was actively involved in theatre in Hamilton and currently the Ottawa Little Theatre. He attended Glendale and Westdale High Schools. He will be truly missed. She is survived by the families of her brother and sister - David Craig, Scarborough; Dorothy Watson, Fraserburgh, Scotland; Helene Cohan, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Alan L. Pinel, Atlanta, Georgia. Beloved sister-in-law of Elda Gilfillan, Uxbridge, Ontario and her children Jane Moser and Kathy Loucks, Toronto, and of Barbara Tomaso, Willowdale, Ontario; Heather Evelyn, Stouffville, Ontario, and their families. Mary was born in Glasgow, Scotland on January 24, 1905. Her mother died in 1909 and her father in 1919. She emigrated to Canada in 1923. In 1927 she was a R.N. graduate of the Toronto Western Hospital. Lieutenant N/S in R.C.A.M.C. 1940 - 1946 with Service in Canada, Italy and the U.K. Postwar employee of the Department of Veterans Affairs at Sunnybrook Hospital. Married October 16, 1948 at Metropolitan United Church in Toronto by Rev. Dr. Peter Bryce, a fellow Scott. Lived in Willowdale till 1962 when Calder was transferred to Ottawa. Active in the N/S Association. Following Calder's retirement in 1972, the Gilfillans spent their winters in Bradenton, Florida, and their sumêmers at their cottage in Dunrobin. Mary has been a resident of Carleton Lodge for five years and we appreciate the kind and loving care she has received. A memorial service will be held at Westboro United Church, 450 Churchill Ave., Ottawa, ON, on Saturday February 15 at 12 noon. Interment of her ashes will take place at Uxbridge Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Carleton Lodge or the Alzheimer's Society of Ottawa-Carleton would be appreciated.

JOSEPH NOEL MORAIS On Wednesday, February 5, 2003 in Lynn Lake, Noel Morais at the age of 68 was called to rest. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wife Lena; his daughter Gail VanBelois; son-in-law David; grandson Shawn; sons, Blair and Troy; and mother-in-law Florence MacAskill. Noel is survived by his nine brothers and sisters, Alice (Val), Antoine (Cedee), Adela (Alvida), Soeur Yvonne f.m.a., Jean Paul (Estere), Eugene (Armelle), Arthur (Lauriane), Robert (Jeanette) and Delisca (Hector), and many nieces and nephews. Noel met his loving wife Lena, of 40 years in 1960 and they were married in 1962. They raised three beautiful children. He moved his family to Lynn Lake in 1970, where he worked for Sherritt Gordon Mines for 12 years. He then worked for the Town of Lynn Lake as the arena manager for 21 years. Noel's biggest love was in people, and he always found a way to make us all smile. He loved children, and this was evident in their smiles and laughter when in his presence. Being from a family of musicians, music was a big part of his life, and he loved to play his fiddle. Noel was also very athletic. He enjoyed playing hockey, baseball and was a professional boxer under the same trainer as Blair Richardson the Canadian and British Empire middle-weight Champion of the time. Noel also took pride in his Parish church, to ensure all was in order. Prayer services and viewing will be held on Sunday, February 9 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Lynn Lake. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 10 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Lynn Lake. Archbishop Most Rev. Peter A. Sutton, omi, will be celebrating the funeral mass. 1919 - 2003 Peacefully, on January 30 at the Concordia Hospital, June passed away at the age of 83. Mom will be sadly missed by her loving and caring husband Eric of 58 years. Daughters Margaret (Roy) Douglas, Sheila (John) Boyd of St. Albert, Alta. Grandchildren Paul (Allyson) Rowe, Tracy (Jayson) Ambrose, Jennifer Boyd, Graeme Boyd and 5 Great Grandchildren. Also lovingly remembered by her brother Guy (Leonna) Devenny of Saskatoon, Sk. June was predeceased by her Parents Guy and Lillian Devenny, as well as her Daughter Barbara in 1996. Mom was born in Weyburn, Saskatchewan on June 24, 1919. After graduation she joined the R.C.A.F. serving four years in the Communications division. Mom met Dad in Winnipeg while both in the service, and were married on D-Day June 6, 1944. They enjoyed 58 wonderful years together. "Cry not when you think of me, For now my soul flies high and free, Encircled in the Lord's arms I live again." At June's request, cremation has taken place. The sudden and unexpected death of LCdr. (Ret.) Richard (Dick) F. Smyth CD, devoted husband to Sarah Libby (Silverman) Smyth of Rothesay, NB occurred at his residence on Thursday, February 6, 2003. Dick was born in Quebec City, PQ and was the son of the late Robert L. and Annette (Dunlop) Smyth. His distinguished career began when, at the age of 18, he enrolled with the Royal Roads Military College in Victoria, BC. His many adventures and tours of duty offered him the chance to travel the world. His life changed forever when he met his beloved wife Sarah in Puerto Rico. They were married in 1985, the same year Dick retired from the Royal Canadian Navy. His career continued when he worked for Beothuck Data Systems Ltd. in Dartmouth, NS and later Saint John Ship Building Ltd. He was a member of RUSI (Royal United Services Institute of N.B.) and N.S. Naval Officers Association. He and Sarah had a strong passion for figure skating and would travel extensively to follow competitions. Besides his parents, Dick was predeceased by two sisters: Gwenyth Smyth Hill and Sheila Smyth Warman. Along with Sarah, Dick will be fondly remembered by his step daughters: Donna (Mrs. John J. Kleinman), Chicago, Il, and Susan Rachel Tramêmel, Scarborough, Me., one brother Robert Smyth, Ottawa, Ont., and two grandchildren; Andrea Ruth Kleinman and David Curtis Tramêmell and nieces and nephews. WILLIAM (BILL) JOSEPH DRENNAN William (Bill) Joseph Drennan passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003 at Riverside Health Care Facilities Inc. in Fort Frances, Ont. Bill was born Dec. 8, 1939 to Joseph and Florence Drennan. He was united in marriage to Myrna Hayward on June 9, 1962. Bill is survived by his wife, Myrna; daughters, Kathy (Gordon) Lampi and Lori (Bill) Galusha; son, Joe (Christal) Drennan; and grandchildren, Angela and Melissa Lampi, Sara and Jake Galusha, and Charlie, Danielle, and Alexandra Drennan. He also is survived by his mother, Florence Drennan; sister, Lois (Bruce) Caldwell; niece, Beth (Peter) Suppa and nephew, Jay (Tanis) Caldwell, and their families; and his father-in-law, Ted Hayward. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph Drennan; and mother-in-law, Lois Hayward. At Bill’s request, there will be no service. Donations can be made to a charity of your choice.

Josephine F. MacMillan HALIFAX, NS - Josephine (Jo) MacMillan of Halifax passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2003 at St. Vincent's Guest House. Born in Keppoch, Prince Edward Island, Jo was the second youngest of seven daughters born to Joseph and Winifred Kelly both of the Island. Jo will be remembered for her many years in fashions at Simpson's in Halifax. She was a keen bowler and she greatly enjoyed oil painting in her retirement years. Jo is survived by one daughter, Heather (Casey-Hastings), in Moncton, NB; a son, Colin in Bedford; and one sister, Kathleen (Kay) in Stratford, PEI; four grandchildren, Tanya, Teresa, David and Jordan Alyce; three great grandchildren Alex, Jacqueline and Ryan and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two husbands George (Ted) MacMillan, and Bernard (Bernie) Killin as well as five sisters, Winifred, Anna, Hilda, Emma and Marjorie. Resting at Snow's Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax, visiting hours will be Sunday, February 9 from 2-4pm and 7-9 pm. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am Monday, February 10 at St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church in Bedford, Fr. David MacDonald officiating. Interment will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in lower Sackville. Kindly direct memorial donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Régina Noël STE-ANNE-DE-KENT- Régina Noël, 86, wife of the late Ablert Noël, of Ste-Marie, formerly of Moncton, passed away Wednesday February 5, 2003 at the Stella-Maris Hospital in Ste-Annede-Kent. Born May 26, 1916 in GrandeDigue, she was the daughter of the late Philias Cormier, and the late Nathalie Cormier. She was a loving and caring mother for her 14 children, and is survived by six daughters, Jeannine Saulnier (Léo) of Ste-Marie, Simonne McTaggant of Edmonton, AB, Sandra Fournier (James), and Maria Berry (Walter) of Moncton, Bernadette Fougere (Gerry) of Shediac, Murielle Boucher (Eloi) of Notre-Dame; five sons, Léo (Nora) and Albert of Moncton, Adrien (Joyce) of Riverview, Jean-Paul (Irene) of PortElgin, Roland (Clara) of Shediac; three sisters, Bertha Cormier and Edith Bourgeois (Henri) both of Moncton, Ella Kenny of Plaster Rock; 53 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, and nephews. Besides her husband Albert, she is predeceased by daughter, Anne-Marie; sons, Lawrence, and Walter, a sister Aline, and a brother Robert. Remains resting at Frenette Funeral Home, 88 Church Street, Moncton (8581900). Visiting hours Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m., Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of departure (10:15). He was a School Bus driver in District 11 for approximately 29 years. He was also a farmer and a fisherman. He was a member of the Sainte-Anne de Kent Roman Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Jeannette (Arsenault) Bastarache; one daughter, Zelma Cormier (Norman) of Grand-Falls; three sons, Rhéal (Renée) of Saint-Antoine de Kent, Ovila (Sonia), Antoine both of SaintEdouard de Kent; three sisters, Angèla Allain (Alcide), Irma LeBlanc (Joseph) both of Saint-Joseph de Kent, Azélia (Maria) Richard of Sainte-Marie de Kent; three brothers, Hervé, Donald (Mélina) both of Saint-Joseph de Kent, Joe of Fitshburg, Mass; one grandchild, Sébastien; several nephews and nieces.
