Il était propriétaire de G.G. Gaston Transport depuis plusieurs années et membre à vie du Club de Golf Rosemère et La Gorce Club en Floride. F/L Herbert J. Peacefully at 85 years, following a lengthy illness, at the Timiskaming Hospital, New Liskeard, ON, on January 19, 2003. Dear husband of Shirley (deceased) and loving father of Susanne (Mrs. Neil Craig) of Haileybury, ON, Richard and his wife Mary Ann of Abbotsford, BC, Joanne (Mrs. Fred Schick) of Ottawa and Wayne and his wife Marla of Kelowna, BC. Cherished grandfather of nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Will be sadly missed by sisters Pauline Farley of Calgary, AB and Doreen Bishop of Denver, CO. He was born in Prince Albert, SK on November 8, 1917 to Charles and Louise (Smith) Cooney; he married Phyllis Shirley Cochrane of Ottawa in 1948. During 28 years of service in the R.C.A.F., he served as a radio-operator, pilot, flight-instructor and telecom officer. He also worked for Medtronics, Phillips Electronic Industries and the Dept. of National Defense in Ottawa. Following his retirement in 1975, he lived in Smiths Falls, ON for 24 years before moving to Haileybury in 1999. Friends may join the family for his interment at Maple Vale Cemetery, Smiths Falls, on May 17, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. donations may be sent to the R.C.A.F. Museum in Trenton or the Canadian Lung Association.

Of Victoria, B.C., died peacefully on January 27th, 2003 at the age of 72. His adoring wife Johanna van Hoek Young will always cherish their life and time together. Born November 30, 1930 in Iroquois Falls, Ontario to Dr. Herbert Maitland "Mait" and Mrs. Patricia Young and raised in Victoria, Brock is survived and tenderly remembered by Johanna, sisters Betty (Andrew) Gillespie, Margot (Gary) Taylor, and brother Ross (Alicia), first wife Colleen, sons Brian (Victoria), Rob (Sherry), and Alan (Valerie), and granddaughters Cristin, Kaitlyn, Erika, Frances, Cassandra, Michaela, Fiona and Brianna, and many nieces and nephews, and his step-children Monique (Alex), Paul (Kim), Adrienne (Shawn), Mark (Shona), and step-grandchildren Connor, Maxwell, and Josephine. After a distinguished career in the security printing business in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, and Great Britain, he retired home to "Canada's sunbelt", as he liked to remind one and all. After his wife Helene succumbed to cancer, Brock devoted himself to work with the Victoria chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society, where he served as President, as well as the Oak Bay Volunteer Society. A loving husband and father, avid golfer, gardener, traveller, dancer, lover of wine and brownies, and teaser of grandchildren, Brock will be sorely missed by all those whose lives he touched. His impish humour and positive view of our world will inspire those who go on, as he will always be with us. There will be a private family gathering to celebrate his life, to the sound of Scottish pipes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Brock's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, Greater Victoria Unit.

Sister Clare C.S.J. (Sr. Mary Desmond) Sr. Clare passed away peacefully into her eternal rest at St. Joseph's Motherhouse, Pembroke, on January 29, 2003. She was in the 68th year of her religious life. Left to mourn her loss are her Sisters in the Congregation, her sister, Patricia (Fred) Dicker of Renfrew, her brother Ed from Douglas and her many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins and friends. Sister Clare ministered as a teacher in Renfrew (for 40 years) as well as in Barry's Bay and Chapeau. She also worked in pastoral care in Regina, Saskatchewan and served in leadership in the congregation for 10 years. She was always eager to learn and better her skills in her profession. Sister was born in Douglas, Ontario, a daughter of the late Thomas Gallagher and Margaret Dourley. She is predeceased by her sisters, Maisie (Peter Bolger), Lillian, Leona (Walter Fleming) and her brothers Harold, Leonard and John. Visitation at St. Joseph's Motherhouse, Pembroke on Friday, January 31 after 3:00 p.m. Prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday evening. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, February 1 at 10:30 a.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel. Interment at St. Columba's Cemetery, Pembroke. EASTERBY, Mariette (Trottier) November 12, 1934-January 29, 2003 Mariette Easterby passed away at home, with her husband by her side. Although we sorrow for her passing, her great spirit and love of life live on within the lives of those she touched. GAUDET, James O.70, Lawrencetown, passed away January 29, 2003, in Dartmouth General Hospital, after a two year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Born in Yarmouth, he was a son of the late Henry and Irene (Hurlburt) Gaudet. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1955 and served his country for 31 years, including a term with NATO in the Middle East achieving the rank of Warrant Officer before he retired in 1986. He had been a member of the Dalhousie Choral Society. He was treasurer for the first Lawrencetown Boys Scout and Humber Park Miner League Baseball Association in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He was a graduated of St. Annes University, Church Point, Digby Co. He is survived by his wife, the former Barbara Shaw; sons, James, Stephen, David, Anthony; daughters, Linda, Judy, Nancy, Christine; brothers, Larry, Joseph, Paul; sisters, Theresa, Elizabeth; stepsons, Patrick and Michael; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by daughter, Barbara; brother, Gerald. Cremation has taken place under the direction of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, 1234 Cole Harbour Rd., with visitation 1-3 p.m. today and where a private family service will be held at 4 p.m. in the chapel. Donations to ALS Society of Nova Scotia.

Il était entouré de ses enfants très peinés. Né à Cutler le 18 août 1910, fils de feu Amede Turgeon et de feue Roseanna Langlade, époux de feue Germaine Prévost pour plus de cinquante ans, il laisse pour le pleurer ses enfants: Roger (épouse Susan), Marie Claire Prevost (époux feu Gilbert) et Diane Leveiller (époux Robert). Il laisse aussi dans le deuil ses petits-enfants: Robert Prevost (épouse Louise), Douglas Turgeon (amie Jackie), Dennis Turgeon (partenaire Mary), Rachel et Michel Leveiller, ses arrière- petits-enfants: Michel, Julie, Natalie et Sylvie, ses frères: Thomas, Omer et Alphonse (épouse Jeanne) et ses soeurs: Marie de Peterborough et Laurette de Hamilton. Il fut prédécédé par ses frères Roland, Phillias et Edmond et ses soeurs Sedulie, Marguerite et Aldea. Un fervent catholique a coeur chaud et généreux, il sema l’amour et la paix dans son entourage par ses bons conseils et en partageant ses nombreuses expériences. Il était un travailleur sans relâche et ainsi parcoura les rails de la voie ferrée du Canadien Pacifique avec "ses hommes" pour plus de quarante ans jusqu’à sa retraite en 1972. Un père modèle et dévoué, il a su garder des liens affectueux avec toute sa famille. Notre "pépère" toujours souriant était très fier de ses petits-enfants et de ses arrière-petits-enfants et par ses paroles sages et ses gestes affectueux, il a gardé notre famille toujours unie. Nous avons tous joui de la pêche, de la chasse et d’une "bonne partie de cartes" avec lui et nous avons tous apprécié les fruits de "ses framboisiers" qu’il cultivait avec une grande passion. Sa famille, y compris de nombreux neveux et nièces se souviendront de lui comme un homme sage, aimable et honorable. Beloved wife of the late Milton Dunn. SMITH, Gerry E. In loving memory of Gerry E. Smith, 71 years, of Sudbury, who passed away Thursday morning, January 30th, 2003 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - St. Joseph’s Health Centre. He was born in Sudbury and married Geraldine Labine in 1956 in Sudbury. Gerry in his younger years was a noted hockey player for St. John’s and New Haven. He then moved on to National Grocers where he worked for 45 years until his retirement in 1996. Because Gerry always believed in having an open door to his home, many co-workers and friends always filled the kitchen. A known fan for "The Rat Pack", you were sure to hear him say "I’ll do it my way". He was the happiest when surrounded by his family who will lovingly remember him for his love of life and for being the first on the dance floor and the last one to leave it at a party. If Gerry could speak to you now, he would probably say "I’ve done it my way"! Beloved husband of Geraldine (Labine) of Sudbury. Loving father of Sue Mulligan (husband Perry), Perry (wife Giselle), Cathy Laurin (husband Jerry), Glen (wife Denise) and Lisa Beaudette (husband Leo) all of Sudbury. Deeply missed by adoring daughter Katherine and son-in-law Fred LaLonde. Cherished sister of David Hay. Predeceased by her parents Betty and Bruce Hay. Diane was raised from birth on what is today called Ghost Hill Farm beside Breckenridge Creek, near Luskville, Quebec. She grew up in a natural wonderland consisting of the Creek itself, the Ottawa River shore, mixed woodland, cliffs, wetlands and rich open pasture. Nature was the predominant theme and her happiest place. Her education began in a one-room school and continued in Aylmer. After graduating from Carleton University and the Ontario College of Education, she taught high school for six years in Ottawa and Toronto. In 1967 Diane married Alan on Ghost Hill Farm. A year later, the two set off to Berkeley, California for further study. Daughter Katherine was born in Berkeley in 1969 and two years later the family returned to Aylmer. Diane joined with a group of mothers to found a cooperative nursery school which still thrives today. This group moved on to promote and successfully launch a French imêmersion program in Aylmer. In 1973, Diane helped to found the Aylmer Heritage Association. She began her heritage work with an inventory and description of the oldest buildings and sites in Aylmer, which later became the foundation of her first local history book, Aylmer, Quebec, Its Heritage, Son Patrimoine first published in 1977. This was followed by three other books Registered Timber Marks of Eastern Canada (1985), Lakeview Terrace 1946 - 1986 and Le Chemin d'Aylmer Road (1994). In 1992, following her mother's death, Diane with Alan moved back to the Ghost Hill Farm homestead. Diane soon set out on a dream to protect from development the gorgeous surroundings she had been raised in. A six-year drive resulted in the creation of the Breckenridge Creek Nature Preserve in 2002, now under the auspices of the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
