Dear mother of Marilyn Green & her husband Rod of Midhurst and Barbara Shelley & her husband Paul of Calgary, Alberta. Loving grandmother of Shannon, Alison, Trevor & Eric. In his 90th year, passed away in Kingston General Hospital on Friday, January 24, 2003 due to complications from bone cancer. Survived by his loving wife Lorraine, daughters Anne (Skip), Joan (Dave), Carol and Cathy (Danilo). Also grandchildren Karen (Adam), Mark (predeceased), Todd and great-grandson Alex. M.B.E. Peacefully, at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital in Ottawa on Sunday, January 26, 2003 in his 89th year. Born in Glenelg Township, Ontario. Son of the late Margaret and Nicholas Meloche. Happily married for 61 years to his beloved wife Pearl (nee Shewell). Cherished father and dear friend of Nancy and Ian Pragnell, Mary and Phyllis Hierlihy, Patrice and Elmer Tumak and Tim. Dear brother of Wilfred "Bill" Meloche (Helen) of Owen Sound and brother-in-law of Helen Hill (Norman) of Windsor. Frank will be sadly missed by his extended family and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brothers Nicholas, Edward and Thomas; and by his sisters Mary, Catherine, Rita and Ivy. Retired from Texaco Canada Inc. Toronto, following a diverse career that spanned 32 years. Honoured in 1946 with membership in the Order of the British Empire for distinguished war service. A former Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus; and an avid family historian, he was a major contributor to the Meloche Legacy, a family history dating from 1575. Funeral arrangements are being made through the Breckenridge Ashcroft Funeral Home, Owen Sound. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Mary's Church, Owen Sound, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2003 with interment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Died at his home at Stillwater Lake, N.S., on January 29, 2003. He had just celebrated his 60th birthday on December 21. John was the son of Cecil and the late Hilda (Scott) Sager. He was the loving soul mate of Verna (Foster) Sager for 43 years. He was Dad and best friend to his children Robert (Rob) Sager (wife Joan Mallery) and Miriam (Mir) Sager (husband Mike O'Toole), Grampy of Roland O'Leary, Caleb and Naomi Sager. John will be missed by his brother Robert "Scott" Sager and Scott's children Shane, Shannon and Adam; his mother-in-law Eileen Foster and Roland's dad Mike O'Leary, and also his extended family and dearest friends all over the world. In keeping with his generous and gracious spirit he donated his body to Dalhousie Medical Research. His wish was, if people wanted to honour his life, that they contribute to The Queen Elizabeth II Foundation, V.G. Site, Hematology Clinic or Med Day Unit; or The V.O.N. Halifax Branch. After a long illness Roy passed away peacefully at his home in Burlington on Thursday, January 30, 2003. He was born at Hamilton, April 22, 1915; was predeceased by his father Caleb Harold Roper, mother Lizzy Jane Roper, step-mother Christine Ruth Roper, brother Harold James Roper, and wife Doris who died in 2001. Roy is survived by his sister Elsie May Lawrason, and nephew Thomas Lawrason and his wife Marilyn. Roy and Doris Lois Smith married in 1948 and lived in Ottawa for a number of years during which Roy was a civilian employee of the Canadian Department of National Defence. After retirement Roy and Doris established a permanent residence in Burlington. Cremation has taken place. A Service of Remembrance will be held at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street (one block north of City Hall), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333) on Wednesday, February 12, 2003 at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Hamilton Cemetery at a later date. The kind, constant and caring homemakers from Red Cross Homemakers, Halton Region and the V.O.N. nurses must be acknowledged and Roy would want his thanks to be given to them. Lenore was the daughter of the late Dave McCann (CFL & Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame) and the late Florence Wilson McCann and step-daughter of the late May Stafford McCann. Lenore is survived by her sister June Steene of Kanata and many nieces and nephews. D.F.C. WW II Veteran Educator Peacefully on January 31, 2003 at the Perley-Rideau Veterans Health Centre in his 91st year. Loving husband of Betty (nee Ridout). Father of David (Charlotte) of Ottawa, Dyann Gray (Chuck) of Denver. Grandfather of Braunwyn, Courtney and David William. A graduate of the Western, Queens and Toronto Universities, his lifetime was dedicated to educating. Born in Stratford, Ontario, brother of David Simpson, Mayor of Stratford, one of his first educational tasks was to ensure his entrepreneurial brother understood the educational significance of William Shakespeare so that he would sponsor the proposed festival for their hometown. From his first teaching assignment during the depression in Savant Lake, north of Superior in a one room school house teaching grades 1 to 13 through progressive promotions to principal, public school inspector and leadership positions, helping to build Ontario's great public education system in the 50's and 60's, to supervisor of DND schools in Europe ending with Directorships of Indian and Northern Education for the Federal Government, he never forgot his base. His innovative approaches, pragmatism, undaunted drive and concern for accessibility and equality were hallmarks of his career. A pioneer of Canada Student Loans, Cooperative Education, Comprehensive Schools, Local Control for Indian bands and international cooperation through Circumpolar Conferences were some of the achievements that led to his induction as a lifetime member of the Canadian Education Association. His northern base included hockey, both playing and coaching in small town northern communities where his teams won championships and two of his NHL players were inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. He interrupted his educational career concerned about incursions by Hitler and chose to fight for liberty as an older volunteer enlistee during WW II. He topped his navigation class but chose active duty over a teaching/training role. Flight Lieutenant Simpson flew 33 perilous missions over Nazi Germany winning several medals and citations (chronicled in several publications) for bravery and courage including a DFC for the famed Duisberg mission. On retirement he travelled much of the world he hadn't seen while dedicating his time at home to community spirited activities in Ottawa including being chairman of the Council on Aging, and the Senior Citizens Council, a patron of the Ottawa Symphony and Opera Lyra and an elder of Rideau Park United Church not forgetting to keep fit by skating on the Rideau Canal in the winter, and biking on the parkways in sumêmer. Singing in the CBC Senior Citizens production entitled, "You Gotta Have Heart" epitomized his lifetime attitude. Just prior to succumbing to Alzheimers in his 85th year he completed an interesting 143-page autobiography chronicling his days in education, war and pride in his family for reference for future generations. Copy available in the National Archives. His good attitude and sense of humour in battling this degenerative disease and adapting to his new reality at each stage of this progressive disease demonstrate that quality of life can be maintained to the end. Special thanks to staff at Rothwell and Perley-Rideau R2S who made this uncharted voyage so doable and rewarding. A Memorial Service will be held at Rideau Park United Church, 2203 Alta Vista Drive on Tuesday, February 4, 2003 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations to Perley-Rideau R2S Veterans (Health Center), Alzheimer Society or Mission and Service United Church of Canada would be appreciated.

Moreover, Paulette played an active role in the women's, labour and peace movements. Her activism spanned more than seven decades, and her compassion, unwavering interest in people and commitment to change inspired those around her. She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Buchanan Ritter; her granddaughter, Dominique Ritter; her sister, Priscilla Benning Peart; and many relatives and friends who will greatly miss her love, friendship and passion. Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Liturgy of the Christian Funeral will be celebrated at St.Frances Xavier Church on Monday February 3, at 10 a.m. Cremation will follow with interment at a later date. Suddenly at his Montreal residence, Alexander died January 22, 2003. Born in Margaree Forks, Cape Breton on March 1, 1937; Sander was the dearly loved brother of Shirley (Claude) Butler, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; James (Pamela) Elora, Ontario and Charles (Hilda) Margaree Forks, Nova Scotia. Predeceased by parents Alexander J. McDaniel and Mary H. MacLeod, infant sister, Laura and nephews, Ian and Scott. Fondly remembered by nieces and nephews Michael, Shelley, Monica, Corey, Robert, Laverne, Wilfred, Kelly, Derek, Shawn and Laura. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. ARBOUR, Brigitte - 1964-2003 In loving memory of Brigitte Arbour who passed away after a long courageous battle with cancer at the Sudbury Regional Hospital on Thursday, January 30, 2003 at the age of 38. Cherished wife of Cléo Vallée. Loving daughter of Victor Arbour and the late Yvonne Arbour (née Guénette). Left to treasure her memory are her children; Beno”t Larouchelle and Sophie Vallée.
