DUNNING - M. John Walter, est décédé à l'âge de 81 ans, le vendredi 19 avril 2002, entouré de sa famille. (nee Burton) Passed away in Ottawa, Ontario, on April 18, 2002, at the age of 87, following a brief illness. Frances Mary Joice Burton was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on December 27, 1914. She graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with degrees in Home Economics and Physical Education. After her marriage to Lenton Purdy, the family lived in various locations in Quebec and Ontario before settling in Ottawa. Her husband predeceased her in 1970. Dear mother and mother-in-law of John and Noreen Purdy of Comox, British Columbia, and Glen and Merna Purdy of Ottawa. Fondly remembered by grandchildren Tara, Michael, Gavin, Lawren, Jessica and Morgan Purdy. She will be sadly missed by her sister Thelma Thiessen of Ladner, British Columbia. Passed away peacefully on April 16, 2002, four days before her 91st birthday. Born in St. Catharines, Ontario on April 20, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Percy Jeeves and the late Eliza (Wiley) Jeeves. She was a graduate of Hamilton Normal College and taught kindergarten in schools in and around St. Catharines for eight years until her marriage to Stanton Hicks. They moved to Ottawa where she taught kindergarten for twenty-two more years at Wellington Street School, Kent Street School and Centennial School, retiring in June of 1973. Besides her love of the little children who she introduced to the school system, she took great pleasure in singing. She played an active part in the choir at First United Church in Ottawa, where she sang for over thirty years. She also sang with the ladies barbershop group, Sweet Adelines and was a charter member of the Capital Chordettes of Harmony Incorporated. She is survived by grandsons Robin Hicks, Victoria, BC, Neil Hicks, Toronto, Ont.; step-grandchildren Susan Brown, Charlottetown, PEI, Heather Brown, Kentville, NS and Derek Brown, Cold Lake, Alta.; daughter-in-law, Joan Hicks; nieces, Rosemond Reid (Irv), Toronto, Ont., Beverley Spence (Bill), Newcastle, Ont., Faye Peters (Ernie), St. Catharines, Ont., nephew, Brian Henderson (Joan), Oxford Mills, Ont. and two great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanton, son Gary, sisters Rosemond and Helen. A service to celebrate Emma's life will be held Monday, April 22, 2002 at 2 p.m. in the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue at Richmond Road, Rev. Sharon Moon officiating. Margaret Stockermans (nee Nieman) Margaretha "Greet" Maria Stockermans (nee Nieman) passed away peacefully April 11, 2002 at the Kingston General Hospital after a long battle with cancer. Margaret was born October 24, 1931 in Hilversum, Holland the youngest of 14 children. She is survived by all her children and grandchildren; 8 sisters Rien, Ber, Ad, Co, Leny, Mart, Riet and Elly; and 2 brothers Theo & Bep. She was predeceased by her husband "Kees"; her parents Wilhelmus and Alida Nieman; her oldest sister To; and 2 brothers Jan & Aad. The Funeral Mass was held April 15, 2002 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Kingston. Pallbearers included her 5 sons- Hans, Bernie, Ron, Steve and Ray, and nephew Fred Jansen. Special tributes from her 7 children (Hail Mary/Gentle Woman song) and from the grandchildren Michael (Bagpipe lament); Adhele and Lindsay (Readings); Alida, Amy, Alora, Kaitlyn and Peter (Prayers of the Faithful) and daughters Margot and Desiree and brother-in-law Ton (Eulogies). Final resting place is beside Kees at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Kingston. She married Cornelis "Kees" Bernardus Stockermans on February 11, 1956 in Hilversum, Holland. They then departed for Canada to start a new life and famiy together. They raised 7 children in Canada- Hans and Gail of Oakville, Ont; Bernie and Becky of North Bay, Ont; Ron and Cathy of Halifax, Nova Scotia; Margot and Rick Byers of Oakville, Ont.; Desiree and Mark Wood of Great Village, Nova Scotia; Steve and Ana of Logrono, Spain; and Raymond and Martha of Amherstview, Ont.- all of whom have given Margaret & Kees 21 grandchildren (so far). On arriving in Canada in 1956, Kees and Greet settled in Pointe Claire, Quebec to be near Greet’s 3 sisters and their husbands - Riet and Jan VanLeeuwenkamp, Leny and Ton Schluter, and Mart and Ben Jansen. These 4 families grew together as an extended family and are still close today. In 1965, Kees was transferred to Toronto, so they bought a house in Lorne Park (Mississauga). They lived there for 23 years. In 1988 they built their dream home (Wildebos) in Hudson, Quebec, but in 1996 moved to Kingston, Ontario to be closer to their children and grandchildren. U.E. WWII VETERAN (Lt. Cdr. RCNVR), also EXTERNAL AFFAIRS 1947 to 1987 It is with sadness that his family announces the death of David Bryce Wilson on April 18, 2002 in Ottawa. He was born in Toronto on October 30, 1922, the son of Dr. David Bruce Wilson of Merrickville (1894-1963) and Dr. Helen Muir, U.E., of St. Catharines (1896-1973). He is survived by his loving wife Anne Mary (Ray) Gascoyne-Cecil (married 1945) and children Elizabeth Fascinato, Susan Williams (Simon), Jennifer, Deborah (Eric Furrie) and Randle (Susan Blyth-Schofield), as well as by his grandsons Francesco and David Fascinato. He was predeceased by his brothers Bruce and Donald and his sister Helen. After an education at Upper Canada College and the University of Toronto, he served in motor launches and motor torpedo boats in WWII, subsequently joining the Department of External Affairs in order to contribute to world peace and development, an ideal he always retained. He was particularly proud of his role in creating the World Food Programme in 1961, and of his contributions to UNESCO reform as a Canadian delegate in the 1980s. His research into the Wilson and Muir family histories in his retirement gave him the immense pleasure of discovering cousins and making new friends across Ontario and beyond, with whom he maintained a lively correspondence. The family offer special thanks to all the extended family and friends for their calls, cards, visits and messages of support, which gave him great pleasure during his illness; they also offer their particular appreciation to Dr. Coulombe and to the nursing team whose support made it possible for him to stay at home. (Sister Mary Celestine) Kelly, Sister Geraldine (Sister Mary Celestine) a Grey Sister of the Immaculate Conception, died at Shalom Residence, Pembroke, on April 18, 2002, in the 75th year of her religious life. Predeceased by her parents, Simon Kelly and Margaret (Foran), by her brothers, Reginald, Stanley and John; by her sisters, Anne Lortie, Mary George, Sister Marion, G.S.I.C., and Margaret. During thirty-one years, Sister was engaged in the ministry of teaching, which she carried out mainly at Immaculata College and at Immaculata High School, Ottawa, and at the Convent of Mary Immaculate, Pembroke. Her retirement years were spent exercising her talents in the field of Art. R.N. 1953-2002 Nancy died peacefully on Tuesday morning April 16, 2002 at the Kingston General Hospital, after fighting a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Nancy was the beloved wife and best friend of Tom Barbour, who will miss her forever. Nancy also leaves her loving parents, Jack and Laurie Beck, her brother Kenny (Diana) and her sister Elizabeth. Nancy's much loved nephews, Jacob, Mathew and Jonathan will dearly miss their Aunt Nanny. Nancy will be remembered by everyone who knew her as a kind, loving and compassionate person, ever smiling, who loved her family and friends. She was always very generous with her "I love you" and hugs. Nancy graduated in Nursing from St. Lawrence College and was a dedicated nurse, devoted to her patients. Nancy with the laughing face, farewell, until we meet again. We will miss you. By request there will be no visitation at the Chris Slater Funeral Home, Prescott. A private memorial service will be held at the Chris Slater Funeral Home, Prescott, on April 20, 2002. Loving mother of Harry Barr, Vancouver, B.C.; Nancy (Laird Stewart), Nepean, Ontario; Tom (Donna) Barr, Douglas, Ontario. Dear grandmother of 7 grandchildren, Amanda and Alyssa Stewart, Taylor and Connor Barr, Jenna, Jill and Kathleen Barr; her sister Shirley (Don Wilcox), Cobden, and her brother George (Dorothy) Jackson, Renfrew. Foster mother to Lillian (Dan Ingham), North Gower. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Lorna was predeceased by her parents Evelyn and Gordon Jackson, and her brother Colin Jackson. At her request there will be no funeral home visitation. A memorial service, in celebration of her life, is planned for Saturday, April 20, 2002 at 11 a.m. in Trinity St. Andrews United Church, Renfrew. The family would like to thank the many compassionate caregivers, relatives, friends and neighbours who helped Lorna in her time of need.
