WWII Veteran Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) Peacefully at home, surrounded by loving family members on Wednesday, March 20, 2002, in his 81st year. He lived up to his regimental motto (PERSEVERANCE) as he fought a long and arduous battle against cancer and lung disease. Beloved son of the late Currie E. Blair and the late Janet McLennan. Survived by his wife in their 50th year of marriage. Lorna E. Presley and six children Gerry (Jean) Ft. St. John BC, Gordon (Pam) Lethbridge, Ken (Deb) Calgary, Andy (Melinda) Maxville, Erin (Nicole) Maxville and Karen (Chester) Ottawa. Beloved grandfather of Charlie Robbie, Catherina and Alexandra. Predeceased by his brother Harold and his sister Hazel. Gerald was immensely proud of having volunteered for active duty and having served with his regiment, the Strathcona's (United Kingdom, Central Mediterranean Area and Continental Europe). He was wounded twice in action and nominated by his Lt. Colonel for a Mention-in-Dispatch award because of his conduct during a certain military action. He was equally proud of his business, Gerald M. Blair Construction, which he operated from 1949 until his passing. On March 18, 2002 Kitty (Kit) McDonald passed away in the Stillwaters Private Hospital in Kelowna. She is survived by her loving family, husband Donald, sons; Lee (Valerie) of Ottawa and Murray (Sharon) of Kelowna, daughter Allysson McDonald and her husband Graham Bell of Milpitas, California, four grandchildren and one great granddaughter, and her sister Mrs. Joey Kiss of Saskatoon. Don McDonald was minister at Wesley United Church in Ottawa from 1978 to 1986. Mrs. McDonald was an active member of the churches where her husband was minister, and a life member of the United Church Woman. She often served as a volunteer for the Cancer Society and other organizations. A Celebration of Kitty's Life will be held on April 4, 2002 in the Rutland United Church, 1370 Rutland Road North, Kelowna at 3:00 p.m. Donations to the Rutland United Church would be appreciated. An Astronomer, he retired as Head of the Time and Frequency Division of NRC in December 1972. Malcolm was a member of Kingsway United Church and an active member of the Rotary Club of West Ottawa since 1961. He was past president of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. In 1988 he was presented with a 50 year button by Acacia 561 Masonic Lodge. He was a past president of the YM-YMCA Friday Luncheon Discussion Club. The death of Paul Douglas MacDonald of Ottawa occurred on Thursday, March 21, 2002 at the Montfort Hospital in Ottawa. Born in Sydney, Cape Breton, N.S. in 1950, he was the son of the late Clare and Alice (Power) MacDonald. Paul was a man of great humour and wit, and spent most of his working life in sales. He is survived by one son SPC Douglas MacDonald Freeman in Fort Hood, Texas and his mother Rosemary Freeman of Connecticut. Two brothers Kevin (Kim) of Fredericton, NB and Stephen (Pam) of Halifax, NS, four nephews Michael and Scott of Frederiction and Ben and Will of Halifax. His wife Carolyn (Hunter) MacDonald and special friend Denise Allard of Ottawa. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Dunstans in Frederiction officiated by Monsignor Brian Sheehan.
