Capt. C.D., RCN (Retired) Peacefully at Central Park Lodge on Thursday, March 21, 2002 in his 86th year. Jack Dewis, beloved husband for 60 years of Jean. Loving father of Barry (Joan) of Ottawa, Fred (Yvette) of Calgary and Gail O'Connell (Terry) of Mississauga. Cherished grandfather of Gordon, Stephen (Theresa), Patrick, Allison, Kathryn, Grace and great-grandfather of Zachary. Brother of Marty Dewis of Calgary and predeceased by brother Fred. Special friend to Jonathan and Dana Strong. Jack joined the RCNVR in 1940 and transferred to the RCN after the war. He served for many years as Deputy Judge Advocate General. Upon retirement from the navy, he served as assistant Chief Electoral Officer of Canada. For many years, he was a dedicated Cub and Scout Master at Parkdale United Church. Passed away in the South Okanagan General Hospital on Thursday March 21, 2002. Sheila will be lovingly missed by her husband Edward of fifty-seven years, of Osoyoos; her two sons William Buchan of Montreal and Edward Buchan (Marina) of Silver Valley, Alberta; three daughters Terry (Jim) Crate of Dawson Creek, B.C., Ellen (Ed) Huneault of Farmington B.C., and Patricia (Jim) Beardmore of Powell River, B.C.; fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one sister, Pat Yanor-Lawson (Casey) of Osoyoos, and one brother Tom Lavine. Sheila was predeceased by her sister Florence McDonald. Sheila was born in Montreal, Quebec, daughter of Frank and Ruth Lavine. She married Edward Buchan in 1945. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday March 25, 2002 at St. Anne's Catholic in Osoyoos, celebrated by Reverend Pfliger. WWII Veteran Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) Peacefully at home, surrounded by loving family members on Wednesday, March 20, 2002, in his 81st year. He lived up to his regimental motto (PERSEVERANCE) as he fought a long and arduous battle against cancer and lung disease. Beloved son of the late Currie E. Blair and the late Janet McLennan. Survived by his wife in their 50th year of marriage. Lorna E. Presley and six children Gerry (Jean) Ft. St. John BC, Gordon (Pam) Lethbridge, Ken (Deb) Calgary, Andy (Melinda) Maxville, Erin (Nicole) Maxville and Karen (Chester) Ottawa. Beloved grandfather of Charlie Robbie, Catherina and Alexandra. Predeceased by his brother Harold and his sister Hazel. Gerald was immensely proud of having volunteered for active duty and having served with his regiment, the Strathcona's (United Kingdom, Central Mediterranean Area and Continental Europe). He was wounded twice in action and nominated by his Lt. Colonel for a Mention-in-Dispatch award because of his conduct during a certain military action. He was equally proud of his business, Gerald M. Blair Construction, which he operated from 1949 until his passing. Loving mother to Peter Barnabe (Marion), Jo Logan (Richard) and the late Susan Robblee (Jim). Excellent grandmother to Chris, Joe and Deidre Barnabe, Val and Doug Logan, Paula and Peter Robblee.
