1909 - 2002. At Lakeshore General Hospital on Friday, February 22, 2002, aged ninety-two years. Verne passed away after a short illness. A native of Saskatchewan, Verne was predeceased by Margaret (nee Ashley) in 1974, and Winnifred (nee Bunnaman) in October 2001. Survivors include his brother Russell of British Columbia, sons Russell (Doris) of Ontario, James (Helen) of Manitoba and Douglas of British Columbia; step-daughters Verna Lunney (Jack) of Florida and Virginia Belanger (Raymond) of Beaconsfield. Grandpa Verne appreciated grandchildren Karen, Erik and Dawn Searle, as well as Diane and Nicole Belanger, and Beverley, Jack, Elizabeth, Diane and Jennifer Lunney. Twelve nieces and nephews from across Canada, including Susan Thompson of Kirkland and Tony Thompson of Lake of Two Mountains, enjoyed uncle Verne. WWII Veteran Peacefully in hospital on the 24th day of February 2002, after a long illness. Son of the late Thomas Haley (Odelie Vincent) of Griffith. Beloved longtime companion of Helen, Gagne. Loving father of Wayne (Carolle Carpentier) of Barrie and Carol ann (Jean-Pierre Villeneuve) of Orleans. Stepfather of Richard (Rachelle Desjardins) Gagne of Gatineau. Devoted grandfather of six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Harry (Jean Bielaskie) Haley of Eganville, Kathleen Milne, R.N. of Kingston and Clare Larabie of Ottawa. Predeceased by brothers Wilfred WWII Veteran (Monica Colterman) Douglas, Alfred, John of Renfrew, Evelyn Merchand of Griffith, Mae (Leckie) R.N. Dure of London, twin sister Eileen Pfeiffer, R.N. of Nepean and Teresa Fitzgerald of London. After serving for eight and a half years in the army, Kenneth retired in 1983 from D.N.D. Shirley's Bay, Ottawa after an outstanding and rewarding career of forty-three and a half years in public service. He always reminisced about his colleagues from work. Kenneth will also be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and the Alain Family. He will be remembered by his best friend and brother-in-law Harold Pfeiffer, long time good friends Herb Boutilier and Jim Hogan. He was an adventure-some thinker and hands-on builder. His concept was an "Architecture of necessity and Landscape of frugality:" which he energetically implemented in projects throughout Canada and in U.S.A. and Pakistan. It culminated in the design of his home Taybarn in Perth. During the Second World War, John was a lieutenant in the Polish Navy serving on destroyers, MTB and submarines out of Britain. He had close and loving friends in many parts of the world, especially in Montreal, Glasgow (Scotland) and Perth, Ontario. The Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. in St. James Anglican Church, Drummond Street at Harvey Street in Perth, Ontario.
