Of Port Dover, in his 63rd year, died peacefully at his brother's home on February 20, 2002, after a stubborn and courageous battle with cancer. He will be sadly and lovingly missed by Gail and their three children, Sherre Maas of Simcoe, Teresa (Dennis) Mummery and Mike (Joanne) Sullivan all of Port Dover. Larry had six grandchildren that will remember their 'bapa' for his love of teasing them - Corey and Katie Maas, Adam and Cody Mummery and Terra and Nathan Sullivan. Sully will be fondly remembered by his brothers and sisters Pat (Marge) of Simcoe, Terry (Maureen) of Ottawa, and Kenny of Morrisburg, Anne McGuire, Nora (Lorne) Burnett, Gladys Sullivan, Judy (Jim) Glover all of Ottawa and Kathy (Earl) Merkley of Smiths Falls. Larry will be lovingly remembered by his mother-in-law Gwen Brearley of Simcoe. Predeceased by his parents, Peter and Johanna Sullivan, three brothers, Danny, Michael and Gerald and three sisters, Mary, Rosie and Margaret. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Florence, Lorna and Judy and brothers-in-law Bob Hellard and Rene Lauzon, as well as many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by two brothers-in-law, Mickey and Gilbert. Larry will be fondly remembered by his many friends for his exceptional coffee! It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of James Lester (Les) Alexander from heart failure on Saturday, February 16, 2002 in St Petersburg, Florida at the age of 69. Born on July 15, 1932 in Stittsville, Ontario, the youngest son of William and Ruby Alexander. He leaves, to mourn, his best friend and wife of 46 years, Elaine, daugher Judy (Doug) Burba of Brandon, Manitoba, grandson Gerald, daughter Cathy (Jan) Anderson of Toronto, Ontario, grandsons Ryan (Jody), Cory and Casey, son Brad (Tracy) Alexander of Winnipeg, granddaughter Vanessa. He is also survived by his brothers Larry and Omer, mother-in-law Mildred Wing, sisters-in-law June (Ray) Radbourne, Vivian (Joe) Fahrngruber, brothers-in-law Jim (Marlene) Wing, Norman (Joan Wing), and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by 2 sisters-in-law Marjorie and Babs. Les was a kind, patient and gentle man who was the first person one could count on to lend a helping hand or provide advice and wise counsel. Dad and Mom always put the needs of others before theirs and their unselfishness was admired by all. His career with the Royal Bank spanned over 37 years and took the family across the country where many friendships were developed and continue to exist today. Ph.D Born September 9, 1930 in New Glasgow, N.S., died February 20, 2002, Ottawa, Ontario as the result of an accidental fall. Son of Lt. Col. C.D. Sampson and his wife Barbara (McKelvie), brother of Anita Latham (Don), (New Glasgow, N.S.); David (Joyce), (St. Stephen, N.B.) and Kenneth (Fredericton, N.B.). Beloved husband of Joan (McGowan) and father of Margaret and Elizabeth (Jan de Pater); adored Grandpa of Dylan, Dexter and Ava de Pater. Dexter grew up in Westville, N.S., and was a graduate of Acadia and Harvard Universities. His entire professional career was as a Research Scientist with Agriculture Canada, specializing in plant breeding. There he developed several varieties of ornamental shrubs before working with cereal crops, specializing in winter wheat. He retired in 1990, but continued to work as an Honorary Research Associate. He was active in the Society of Sigma Xi, the Harvard Club of Ottawa, the Ottawa Network of Sculptors, the Ottawa Buddhist Society, the Group of 78 and a number of professional organizations. Dexter was a gifted sculptor in stone, a lover of nature, a spelunker and a skilled genealogist.
