Passed away gently, surrounded by love, in Mississauga on December 8, 2001 in his ninetieth year. He was recently predeceased by his beloved wife Grace Gwendolyn Todd on October 29, 2001. Ken is survived by his three daughters: Gwen Higginson of Cobourg, Donna Johnston (Jeff) of Mississauga, and Susan Turner (Steve) of London. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Ken is predeceased by his infant daughter Virginia, his sister Evelyn, brother Delbert, sister Audrey and son-in-law Warren. He will be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Cremation will be followed by a very private family service. Interment will take place in Montreal Memorial Park at a later date. ERIC MALCOLM MCCONNELL Eric McConnell, 82, of Rainycrest Home for the Aged, 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at his residence Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001. He was born Jan. 20, 1919 in Fort Frances to the late Jack and Elizabeth McConnell. In his earlier years, he played junior hockey with different teams in Fort Frances. Eric worked in the bush until 1942, when he joined the Queen’s Own Cameron and went to Terrace, B.C. for training. Following his training, he served overseas in England and France. While overseas, he was wounded and later discharged in 1945 to return home. On June 22, 1949, Eric was united in marriage to Laura Gosselin. In Fort Frances, Eric bartended for various local hotel establishments for many years, and later at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 until his retirement in 1969. He was a member of the Legion, and of St. John’s Anglican Church in Fort Frances. Eric and Laura were the first couple to move into Columbus Place. He resided there until moving to Rainycrest in 2001. For enjoyment, Eric liked playing Bingo and watching sports. He was predeceased by two sons-in-law, Frank Lappage and John Condry; two brothers, Gordon and John McConnell; and three sisters, Gladys McIntosh, Silver Mathews, and Edna McDevitt. Eric is survived by his wife, Laura McConnell of Fort Frances, Ont.; and eight children, Sandra Condry of Syracuse, N.Y., Leslee Lappage of Dryden, Ont., Lyle McConnell and wife, Naomi, of Savona, B.C., Cy McConnell and wife, Lori, of Invermere, B.C., Shelley and husband, Ray Ducharme, of Fort Frances, Ont., Melody McConnell and Nadine McConnell, both of Edmonton, Alta., and Calvin McConnell of Invermere, B.C. RCN, CAF, WWII Veteran At the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre in Ottawa, on Monday, December 10, 2001, of cancer, at the age of 76 years. Son of the late E.S. and Ena Fox (Timacheff). Husband of Lillian (nee Theriault) and father of Karen (Chris Stubbs), Brian (Carme Fox) and Meagan. Grandpa of Andrew, Erin, and Jeffrey Fox. Alec was born in Duncan, B.C., March 14, 1925, and joined the Royal Roads Naval College in 1942. He served in HMCS Uganda in 1944 - 45, in the war against Japan, followed by occupation duty. Post-war he became a Naval fighter pilot and flew off HMCS Magnificent and Bonaventure. He was an Empire Test Pilot, introduced jet aircraft and the Sidewinder guided missile to the RCN, and flew on the Grey Ghosts aerobatic team. He commanded destroyers HMCS Athabaskan and Columbia and was Executive Officer of HMCS Bonaventure. He retired in 1980 as a Col. (Pilot), Base Commander CFB Cornwallis, followed by 11 years as a Capt. (N) on the Convoy Commodore list in the Naval Supplementary Reserve, while consulting, then as a manager at Saint John Shipbuilding, Ltd. Predeceased by his older brother John; Alec is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Randell (John), brothers-in-law Lovitt and Clark Theriault, sisters-in-law Rosalind Baxter, Marilyn Banks, Joan Fox and their many offspring. Mums was an ardent supporter of, and volunteer at, the Pettes Memorial Library in Knowlton and the former Queen Elizabeth Hospital. She was also for many years a passionate golfer at Kanawake and curler with the Montreal West and Royal Montreal Curling Clubs. Cremation has already taken place. Her ashes will be interred in Shetland, Scotland, beside the memorial to her father, Captain Lawrence Malcolmson, of the Merchant Navy, who went down with his torpedoed ship in March 1945. Elizabeth was born in Halifax and educated at the Halifax Ladies College, McGill University, Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, and completed her doctorate in Paris. Her life-long love of art led to a career as an Art History teacher at Ottawa University. She is survived by Nancy Carscallen and her sons Almon and William (his wife Elizabeth) and daughters Mary and Laleah and seven young cousins. She was also greatly loved and cherished by her exceptionally-wide circle of friends across North America and Europe. Peacefully at the Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus on Sunday, December 9, 2001. Survived by her sister Evelyn Lennox of Vancouver. Dear Aunt of Jim Lennox, Bruce Partridge, both of Vancouver and Marguerite Massiscotte of Winnipeg. She will be sadly missed by all her friends in Ottawa. Alice had a number of postings abroad with the Department of Foreign Affairs and she ended her career with the Treasury Board. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
