Peacefully following a short illness at Lanark Lodge, Perth on Friday, October 26th, 2001, Mary (Stewart) Robinson (life long resident of McDonald's Corners) in her 94th year. Wife of the late Clarence Robinson, and loved mother of Phyllis (Wes Desjardins) of Perth Road Village. Cherished grandmother of Barbara (David) Echols and Chris (Linda) Duncan both of Kingston and Katherine Duncan of Windsor, great grandmother of Ashley and Justin Echols, Stephen Albers and Jaclyn Semple. Mary was predeceased by her parents Daniel and Violet (Purdon) Stewart, brothers John and Bill Stewart and son-in-law John Duncan. Peacefully, in her seventy-seventh year on Friday, October 26, 2001 at the Strathmore in Dorval, Quebec, after a lengthy illness. Predeceased by her devoted husband Bill Smith. Sheila remained the cornerstone of her family and was greatly loved by her two sons Rodney (Ann Gibbins) and Ronald (Anne Leger) and loving grandchildren Allison and Andrew. Survived by her sisters Mary, Rita, Nellie, and brother Ronald; sisters-in-law, Annie, Polly and Grace; lifelong friend Joan Dawson and many more caring relatives and friends. For many years Sheila's ever giving generous spirit supported the Meridian's of First Presbyterian Church in Verdun. To honour and remember Sheila and the many happy occasion we shared with her, a funeral will be held at Collins Clarke Chapel, 5610 Sherbrooke St. West on Wednesday, October 31 at 11 a.m. Interment, Montreal Memorial Park Cemetery. Peacefully on Thursday, October 25, 2001, in her 84th year. Predeceased by her husband Major Roger Vincent. Daughter of the late Archibald Layeux and Sarah Malette. Family was very important to Doris. She will be greatly missed. Loving and cherished mother of Peter (Janet Johnston) of Calgary, Paul (Kathryn McLaughlin), Philippe (Hugh Hodgins), Guy, Suzanne (George Hussey), Claude (Elizabeth DaSilva) all of Ottawa. Affectionate and caring grandmother of Jennifer, Adrian, Veronica and Eileen, Alison and Zoe; great-grandmother of Tyler and Isaac. Sister of Aline (Clarence O'Connor), Irene (Roger Turgeon), Claire (Jim Duffy), Gilbert (Mary), Helen and Jerry (Maggie). In her early years, Doris enjoyed the outdoors, skiing, camping, and canoeing. She instilled this love of life and adventure in her children. After raising her family, she started her second career in 1968, as a secretary with National Defence and the Department of Transport. She fell ill with cancer in 1975, a battle she fought and won as she did many other challenges in her lifetime. Her strength of character has always been an inspiration to her family. In her retirement years she studied at the Ottawa School of Art and became an accomplished landscape artist. She was a fan of the Ottawa Senators, Lowell Green and The Young and the Restless! She mistrusted most politicians but loved to argue politics and always had a soft spot for Charlotte Whitton! The family would like to thank all her friends at Thorncliffe Place for their kindness and support, and to the hospital staff on wards F and B of the Ottawa Hospital, Civic Campus, for the special care Doris received in her final days. G/C On October 20th, 2001, died peacefully just one day short of his 89th birthday, at Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII, Halifax, where he resided for the past 3 1/2 years. He was born in Berwick, Nova Scotia. Upon graduation from Acadia University, 'Joe' as he was known for most of his life to his friends, served Canada in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII. He was based in Calgary during early WWII before seeing heroic action in the Battle of the Atlantic and subsequently commanded the distinguished 422 Squadron. For nine years Post War he was base commander at Rockcliffe in the nation's capital then co-ordinated a massive expansion of Namao near Edmonton. He continued serving the RCAF in its postwar glory until he retired as Commanding Officer of Southport near Portage la Prairie in 1963. While his military accomplishments were many, only in his twilight years did his personal accomplishments become more apparent. An innovator, he built numerous homes, boats, and finally, addressing his number one passion, he constructed a total of four aircrafts. His heart was in his Maritime home, where he retired to St. Margaret's Bay, Nova Scotia for the last thirty-eight years. An individualist, his eccentricity and humour were hard to resist for all who knew him. Joe's loving life partner, wife Bernice (nee Phinney) died in 1989. He was an inspiration to his three sons, Jim, Norman and Doug, Jim's wife Jeannette and Doug's wife Gail as well as their extended families. He was predeceased by his sister Pauline and brothers Harold and Leard. Joe's family will be forever grateful to the staff at Camp Hill for their loving care. At the Montreal General Hospital on Thursday, October 25, 2001 at the age of seventy-two. Beloved husband of the late Ecaterina (nee Patsourakis). He will be greatly missed by sons Pantelis and Emmanuel; daughters-in-law, Zafiro and Voula; his grandchildren, Theodore, Katerina and Matheos; and his many relatives and friends. Born April 26, 1918 in Wilno, Poland. Retired from Shell Canada in Montreal in 1983 after 32 years service in mechanical engineering. Passed away peacefully on September 30, 2001 at the age of 83 years in Waterloo, Quebec after a brave struggle with a lengthy illness. Loving and devoted father of Alicja J.B. Lukaszewicz-Southall of Chicago (formerly of Montreal). Dear brother of Wanda Fragner and uncle of Artur Skoryna of Quebec, also mourned by son-in-law Graham D. Southall. Leaving to mourn sisters, Angela (Don) of Grand Falls, Shirley (Greg) of St. John's, Ruth (Claude) of Kitchener, MaryLou (Morris) of Kitchener, brothers Jimmy (Rita) of St. John's, Kenneth (Marg) of Hawk's Bay, Noel (Ottawa), Ralph (Bernie) of Dawson Creek, Ernie (Geraldine) of Freshwater, Clem (Doris) of Deep River, and Donald in Freshwater. Barbara will also be missed by nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles and a large circle of friends. A gathering will be held for family and friends on Saturday, October 27th at 4 p.m. at 84 St. Cecile in Vanier.
