Died peacefully at Grace d'Art Extended Care on Monday, October 22, 2001 at noon. He leaves to mourn his wife of 55 years May (nee Monk), his children, Lynda (John) of Dorval, Gary of Australia, Corrine (Oly) of Seattle and Pat (Gwen) of Toronto. Grandchildren Brianna, Olivia and Lynn and extended family Malcolm and Margaret Coker. He will be missed by his surviving siblings; sisters, Alma (Fred) of Detroit, Doris of Toronto, Ida (Bob) of Toronto, Evelyn (Phil) of Chalk River, Phylis (Gerald) of St. Georges, Nfld. and brother Frank (Kathy) of Terrace, B.C. as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Born in St. Georges Newfoundland, he served in the R.A.F. from 1939-1945. The family wish to acknowledge the wonderful care given by Kate, Andre, Steve, Eddy and the many others of the 5th floor - thank you. Irene Rhea (Lauzon) Bourke, died at Sarnia General Hospital, on October 23, 2001. She was 88 years old. She is predeceased by: husband Eugene Myles; a grandson Neassan; brothers George and Leo. She is survived by: daughter Louise Kozlowski of Toronto; sons Myles (Betty) of Lethbridge, Alta., Michael (Wendy) of Vancouver, David (Shannon) of Bright's Grove; sisters Jeanne of Ottawa, and Dia of Toronto. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. . The funeral services was held at Smith Funeral Home at Sarnia. Cremation took place following the service. Donations can be made to the V.O.N. Funeral director was Smith Funeral Home. Betty Silver Betty Geraldine Silver died at North Bay General Hospital, Scollard Site, on October 26, 2001. She was 79 years old. She is predeceased by: her husband Vincent Silver; parents Tilda and Worthy Rumney; son Robert Silver. She is survived by: son Bill (Betty) of North Bay; four daughters Patti-Marie Silver, Elaine (Marcel) Duke of Porcupine, Judy (Gerald) Lamontagne of Kap and Kathy (Kip) Gilles of Kap; daughter-in-law Linda Silver of Belleville; brother John (June) Rumney of Temagami; 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. 77, born in Halifax, NS on October 9, 1924 passed away into the arms of Our Loving Father on October 20, 2001 at the Dartmouth General Hospital. He was a superb guitarist, recording artist, and teacher and a member of the Atlantic Federation of Musicians. he performed extensively throughout Canada with many of the leading orchestras, groups and artists. His contribution to Canadian Music has been recognized by the many citations and awards he has received throughout his career, including a special acknowledgement by the Premier of Ontario in 1991, the Ottawa Valley Country Music Hall of Fame, and the Nova Scotia Country Music Hall of Fame. Ken will forever be remembered in the hearts of those who knew him for his sense of humour, his warm and humble spirit, his love of God, his love for his family, and his love of music and art. Ken appreciated the unceasing prayers and support of his family, friends and students, and the tender care given to him by Hospital staff. He is survived by his companion, Freda; daughters Evelyn, Dorothy, Donna, Diane, Beverly all of Ontario, also Deborah of NS and Mary of BC; sons; Bob, Frank, Don all of Ontario and Ken of NS; brother George of California; also 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Gordon. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday October 23, 2001 in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St. Dartmouth, NS. Peacefully on October 20th, 2001 in her 57th year after a six-year battle with breast cancer. She leaves her beloved partner of 25 years, Janet Turnbull. Also survived by her loving sister Liz (Keith) Dickens of Guelph and stepsisters, Beverly Banting and Mary Jean Affleck, both of Toronto. Cherished aunt of Nancy (Warren) Edgar; Judi (Mark) Grebenc; Heather (Brian) Hume; Deborah Affleck; Donald Affleck; and the late Stephen Banting. Also survived by seven great nieces and great nephews. Dorothy's career as a social worker spanned 36 years before illness cut short her assault on the disease that ultimately took her life. She left her position as CEO of the Canadian Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute of Canada. She leaves behind many friends in the cancer control field across Canada and around the world. Her influence extended throughout the voluntary sector where she steadfastly believed in the value of volunteers and the power of the volunteer staff relationship. Her family and care-team would like to thank Dr.'s Ida Ackerman, Neil Iscoe, Richard Fralich, Kathy Pritchard, Leah Steinberg and the nurses at Toronto Sunnybrook Hospital C-3 and K-1E. A private family interment has been held at The Pool of Reflection, Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. James will be very sadly missed by his parents, his three brothers, Kyle, Shane and Kurt as well as by his grandparents, Evelyn and Tom (died October 5, 2001) Anderson, and Rodney and Elaine Freeborn; his many cousins; aunts and uncles and his treasured friends. According to his will there will be no visitation. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 23 at 2 p.m. at the Maplewood Presbyterian Church, 215 McLeod, Chateauguay and everyone is welcome. A private internment will follow. A celebration of James' life will be held after the church service at the home of Leslie and Michael Thompson at 109 Dupont, Chateauguay. Lt Cdr Royal Navy Peacefully on Saturday, October 20th, 2001 at the Ottawa General Hospital, aged 80 years. Beloved husband of Eileen for nearly six decades, adored father of Wendy (David Dixon), Hilary (Rick Valliant) and Mandy (Doug Irvine), and cherished Grandad of Darcie Dixon and Evan and Morgan Valliant. Timo also leaves his sister Sylvia Travis and cousin Pat Godwin of Great Britain, as well as treasured family and friends all over the world. Timo earned his wings as a fighter pilot with the Royal Navy in WWII. Our family immigrated to Canada from England in 1955, and from then on Timo led an exciting life as a helicopter pilot on the Defence Early Warning (DEW) Line, then with the Canadian Coast Guard and as an Inspector with Transport Canada. Timo always boasted that he had the best job in the world and he got paid for it! At Timo's request, a private family inurnment is planned at Pinecrest Cemetery, Ottawa. Passed away on October 17, 2001 at Circle Drive Special Care Home in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan at the age of ninety-three years. She had lived on her own in Beaconsfield, Quebec until 1998 when she moved to Saskatoon to live with her daughter. Lila was predeceased by her husband Blake and daughter Donna in a car accident in 1956. Blake Sewell was the leader of a well known band in Montreal and also worked for the Montreal Gazette. Lila Sewell will be buried beside her husband and daughter in the Montreal Memorial Gardens.
