JENNY OPHEIM WILLIAMS Jenny Opheim Williams, 84, of Lac La Croix First Nation, Ont., passed away Monday, July 9, 2001 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. Jenny was born Dec. 25, 1916 in Basswood Lake, Mn. to the late Jack Kingfisher and Nora Pete John. She lived at Lac La Croix First Nation most of her life. She was united in marriage to Edward Opheim Williams, who predeceased her in the 1990s. For several years, Jenny had worked for Campbell’s Cabins and Zup’s Resort until her retirement in the 1980s. During the winters, she enjoyed trapping. Jenny will be missed by her family and friends. She was predeceased by one brother, Billy LaBott; and two sisters, Liz Ottertail and Annie Ottertail. Jenny is survived by her three sisters, Mary Jourdain, and Clara and husband, George Ottertail, all of Fort Frances, Ont., and Helen Geyshick of Lac La Croix First Nation, Ont.; and by numerous nieces and nephews. A traditional burial service was held Friday, July 13, 2001 in the morning at the family residence at Lac La Croix First Nation. Elder Jim Boshkaykin officiated, with burial in Lac La Croix First Nation Cemetery. A wake was held Thursday evening at the family residence at Lac La Croix First Nation. In memoriam donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Box 807, Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3N1.

Le service religieux sera célébré le samedi 21 juillet 2001, à 11 heures, en la Cathédrale de Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière et de là au cimetière de Saint-Antonin. Il laisse dans le deuil ses soeurs, son frère, ses beaux-frères et sa belle-soeur: Ryta (Yvon Bérubé), Paquerette (feu Vincent Allard), Yolande (Claude Lévesque), Léona (Patrick J. De 1967 à 1974, animateur de pastorale à l’école secondaire de La Pocatière. De 1974 à 1976, animateur de pastorale à l’école secondaire de Rivière-du-Loup. De 1976 à 1986, conseiller en éducation chrétienne à la Commission scolaire régionale du Grand-Portage; de 1984 à 1986, il est aussi membre de l’Office diocésain d’éducation à titre de responsable de l’éducation chrétienne au secondaire. En 1986, études en pastorale à l’Institut Catholique de Paris. De 1987 à 1996, curé de Rivière-Bleue et de Saint-Marc-du-Lac-Long, diocèse de Rimouski. De 1996 à 1998, curé de Cabano, diocèse de Rimouski. En 1998, il est nommé directeur de la pastorale diocésaine et responsable de la pastorale des vocations du diocèse de Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière. En 1999, il est nommé vicaire général. Détient un baccalauréat en arts, un baccalauréat en théologie, une maîtrise en pastorale scolaire. JERRY WODELL Jerry Wodell, 58, of 241 Elizabeth St. W., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away suddenly Sunday, July 15, 2001 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances. He was born Aug. 24, 1942 in Fort Frances and had lived here most of his life. Jerry had worked as a broadband technician for 18 years at Bell Canada. On Dec. 6, 1968, he was united in marriage to the former June Socholotuk. Jerry was very active in the community, and was a member of the International Order of Oddfellows Cascade Lodge #351, the Knights of Columbus, and St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances. He enjoyed fishing in his spare time and his family was his life. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary Wodell in 1981; one brother, Kenny Wodell, and his great-grandparents, Katherine and William Wodell. Jerry is survived by his wife, June Wodell of Fort Frances, Ont.; one son, Kyle Wodell and wife, Yvonne, of Thunder Bay, Ont.; one daughter, Michelle Stevenson; four grandchildren, Brandon, Stephen, Christopher, and Kylee June; and his father, Mike Wodell of Fort Frances, Ont. A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 19, 2001 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances, with Father Eugene Whyte O.M.I. officiating. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery in Fort Frances. Parish prayers will be offered Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church led by the Knights of Columbus. Honourary pallbearers will be Albert Lauzon, Stan Hammond, Ellis Williams, Ron Sinclair, Tony Vanderaa, and Bud Dyrland.
