The death of Stan on Sunday, April 15th, 2001, has shocked the Legion Community and all who knew him. Stan Fitzsimmons of 250 Pembroke St. E., Pembroke was the son of the late Angus and Isobel Fitzsimmons (nee Sneddon) of Montreal and Ottawa. He leaves to mourn his wife Joyce Rebecca, Pembroke; sister Marie Wallace, Montreal; brother Murray, Ottawa; sisters-in-law Gloria Lavigne, Pembroke; and Hope Preiswerck, Victoria, B.C.; brother-in-law Earl Rosamond, Hamilton; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sister Margaret Ferguson, Montreal. Stan enlisted in the RCNVR in 1941 and after his discharge he joined the Royal Canadian Legion. He was a dedicated 50 year member of the Legion and was a Past President, Life Member and recipient of the Legion Meitorious Service Medal. For over forty years he held many Branch executive positions and was very active as Bingo Chairman, Sports Officer, Poppy Chairman and Veteran's Service Officer, to name a few. His many unsung contributions to the Branch and his phenominal memory of people, places and events will be sorely missed by all his friends and acquaintances from all over Ontario and beyond. Stan was also a long time Zone Council Member serving under fourteen Zone Commanders. A Memorial Service will be held in Wesley United Church, 275 Pembroke St. E., on Thursday, May 10th, 2001, at 11 a.m. (As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 72 Poppy Fund or the Ontario Humane Society, Box 322, Petawawa, Ontario, would be appreciated). O.M.I 1908 - 2001 On Sunday May 6th, 2001 Father Anthony ("Tony") Hall died at Laurier Manor, Ottawa. He was 93. Fr. Tony was one of eleven children of the late James Hall and Alice Shea. He was born in St. Columban's, Quebec on April 19th, 1908. Shortly after, his family moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where he was educated. He entered the Oblate novitiate in 1926. After three years at Lebret, he was sent to Rome to study. Father Hall was ordained June 26th, 1932. He received a doctorate in philosophy and returned to Canada. In 1934, he became Superior of Holy Rosary Scholasticate in Orleans, Ontario. In 1942, Father Hall became Director of the Missionary Association of Mary Immaculate. He founded the Oblate Missions magazine. For the next ten years, as Provincial Bursar, Father Hall was involved in the province's expansion. In 1961, he was coopted to preside over the development of Pius XII University in Roma, Basutoland (Lesotho). In 1969, he was named Assistant OMI General Bursar in Rome and in 1979, Director General of the Missionary Association of Mary Immaculate. In 1981, he returned to Canada and was named Executive Secretary of the Medical Friends of Peru. The Holy See recognized Father Hall's long service to the church awarding him the decoration "Pro Ecclesiae et Pontifice". Very much a part of St. Peter's Province history over the past 75 years, Father Hall was predeceased by all of his brothers: John, Emmett, Mike, Jim and sisters Annie, Alice, Eva, Eileen, Helen and Virginia leaving to mourn many relatives and close friends, especially Dorothy Dunn. Father Hall will be transferred from the Kelly Funeral Home to Canadian Martyr's Church, Ottawa, where friends may pay respects from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday. In 1966 the Fields retired to Bonita Springs, Florida. Monday, May 7, 2001, Leda and Arthur Farley welcomed into Heaven, the last of their nine children, Robert Edmund Farley. After walking with the angels, he was again reunited with Audrey, his wife of 34 years and their daughter, Joan. Robert is survived by five children Jan, Tim, John, Bernard and Monica; eight grandchildren Robert, Samantha, Peter, James, Alexandre, Sienna, Merlin and Lothlorien. Numerous nieces, nephews and friends will miss his wonderful smile and sense of humor. His friendship and courage will always be cherished by Kim Anderson whose most devoted care for the past 13 years greatly enriched Bob's quality of life. Many thanks to all the staff at St. Vincent's Hospital who have cared for him since 1992.
