Captain BA, MEd, RCAF Photo (Retired) Gord was born in Toronto and died in Midland, Ontario, on March 25, 2001 at the age of 74. A funeral mass was held in Port Severn on March 29. Gord enlisted in the RCAF as a teenager during the Second World War, to be trained as a tail gunner, then re-enlisted soon after the war as a photographer. He served as a camera operator in the High Arctic as a member of the Photo Squadron, helping to produce the aerial photographs used to create the first detailed and accurate Maps of Northern Canada. He went on to serve at postings across Canada and in France and Germany, continuing his education part-time and rising through the ranks to end his career as commander of the Armed Forces Photo School at Camp Borden. He tried out retirement for a short time and didn't care for it so he became a public servant, working for DND for another decade as a management consultant. By the time he got around to retiring for a second time he had finished his dream home at Tea Lake, and was quite happy to settle there permanently. Gord was in good health until a year-and-a-half ago, when he suffered a massive stroke that left him semi-paralyzed and almost mute. His energy, stubborness and absolute determination to regain as much of his independence as he could helped him to reclaim far more of his abilities than anyone thought possible, to the point where he was on the verge of walking again. Gord is survived by his wife Kathleen (nee Flaherty), who was also an RCAF photographer and with whom he celebrated their 50th anniversary last fall. He is also survived by his daughters Donna and Patricia, Donna's partner Diana Boudreault, his brother, Edward, his sister Ruth and her husband Thorbjorn, his nephews Marc, Ian, Neil, Loren and Keith Skogland, his brother-in-law Leo Flaherty and his wife Dorothy, and many cousins, and great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Robert and his sisters Isabella (Girlie), and Leona. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. The death of Bernice E.A. Storm of Ottawa, formerly of Fredericton, N.B., occurred on March 29, 2001, in hospital at Ottawa after a brief illness. She was born in Nashwaak Bridge, N.B., on August 22, 1909 to Larkin and Alma (Warman) Morton. She is survived by daughters, Sylvia Jean Smith (Ronald), Ottawa, Dawn Dorcas (Alvin), Lincoln, Greta Bruce (John Boone), Fredericton, step-son Richard Storm (Mary), Fredericton, brother-in-law R.F. Fendick, Hampton, N.B., and daughter-in-law Clara Pringle (Bridgewater, N.S.). She will be missed by grandchildren Geraldine Harris (Wendell), Brett Dorcas (Linda), Shelley Sansom (Brock), Lori Mattice (Art), Stephen Smith (Marcia), Geoffrey Pringle, Tanda Russell (Rob), Jetta Dauphinee (Craig), step-grandchildren Pam Pallock (Tony), Lori Storm, several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband J.W. (Bill) Pringle, second husband L.R. (Ike) Storm, son J.L. (Jim) Pringle, grandson Brian Bruce, brother York Morton, and sister Jean Bradbury. Her family was her greatest focus and treasure throughout her 91 years. Joseph and Elizabeth (McGovern) Girouard on October 23, 1921 and attended St. Pat's High School, At the outbreak of World War II Ted volunteered with three of his brothers and took part in the invasion at Normandy. He became a bus driver for Voyageur-Colonial and union president before starting Hiway Tours in 1961. Ted retired in 1978, pursuing his passion for Golf between Williamsburg and Arizona with his beloved wife Lois (Eadie). Dear father of Linda Cameron of Niagara Falls, Beverly Hillier (late Albert) of Ottawa and Ted (Barbara) of Orleans. Loving grandfather of Leanne and Andrew Cameron; John Hillier; Jeremiah, Morgan, Joshua and the late Bradley Girouard. Also survived by his war bride Alice Morgan. Brother of the late Harry, John, James, Leonard, and Esther Girouard, Rita Fairchild, Mildred Groves and Lillian Malo. Most proud great-grandmother of Daniel Weisberg, Aaron and David Korolnek, Alexa and Drew Heller, David, Raquel and Jacklyn Frank, Bevan and Maylin Kantor, Adam, Lianne and Sophie Koren. Leah was a distinguished antique dealer, a pioneer and pillar of the Jewish Community and a most admired and proud Kingstonian. She will be sadly missed by many. Passed away peacefully at the Montreal General Hospital, on March 30, 2001 at the age of seventy-nine. He leaves behind his wife Leona, his brothers and sisters, his stepson Rene, many nieces, nephews and friends. Beloved husband of Dorothea Paige Jenkins of Edmonton, passed away at the Jubilee Lodge, Edmonton, Alberta on 29 March 2001 at the age of 82 years. Maynard is survived by his 2 sons, Keith Maynard Jenkins of Calgary, and Gary Ernest Jenkins, his wife Judy, as well as 2 grandchildren, Kimberly, and Brent, of St. Albert. Maynard was married to Dorothea (both originally of Ottawa, Ontario) who predeceased him, 10/22/98, for 53 years, during which time he not only helped raise a family, but he also provided the necessary support Dorothea required to fight Multiple Sclerosis, a disease which she contacted early in their marriage. After returning to Ottawa, Ontario following his overseas military service during WWII, Maynard left the Royal Canadian Air Force, and joined the Federal Government Dept. of National Defence as a Civilian Employee, and became involved with personnel work. After several years located in Ottawa, Ontario, Maynard was transferred to Ft. Churchill, Manitoba where he and Dorothea resided until July 1967, when he was transferred to Edmonton, Alberta and worked with the Federal Government Dept. of Public Works as a Personnel Manager until his retirement, August 1983. While stationed at Ft. Churchill in the Eastern Arctic, Maynard & Dorothea enjoyed travelling to various parts of Canada & the USA during summer vacations with the family, and like Dorothea, Maynard held many fond memories of the social functions he and Dot attended while on the military base, and of the many friends they made during that period and with whom he maintained contact over the years since. Subsequent to Maynard's official retirement from his government assignment at the Dept. of Public Works, he undertook further contract assignments which took him into the Western Arctic for 6 months and longer periods. He and Dot became temporary residents of both Whitehorse and Yellowknife. Finally, at 68 years of age, Maynard fully retired to devote 100% of his time to Dorothea and her medical challenges. During Maynard's upbringing in Ottawa, Ontario his father was a lay reader in the Anglican Church, and throughout Maynard's life, he too has been a supporter of the church. While in Ft. Churchill he was active at the Anglican Church, "Chapel of the Good Shepherd," and subsequently while in Edmonton, he has contributed personal time and resources as a loyal parishioner to "St. Michael & All Angels Anglican Church." Maynard will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He will be remembered for how caring he was as a husband, father & grandfather and for his often dry sense of humour.
