Passed away suddenly at the Royal Victoria Hospital at the age of sixty-seven. He was the beloved husband of Shadi, devoted father to Kamrun, Farhang, Pooneh and Ali, grandfather of Kian, brother of Shoukat Zaman, Azardokht and Ahmad. He will be sadly missed by the families of Yousefi-Tehrani, Oveissian, Moayari, Murray, Mehrtash, Mavaddat, Mazhari, Safa and Morakabati. On Friday, March 23, 2001, Canon Mack Brett, aged ninety-two, son of the late The Reverend Robert Brett and Helena (wilson), loving husband of the late Nancy (Wood) Brett and Ann Kelsey (Hutton-Balfour) Brett. Dear father of Mary Helena Gilchrist (Maurice) of St. Laurent, Quebec and Robert Henry Brett (Jean) of Ottawa, Ontario. Step-father of Carolyn LeBlanc (Peter), New Brunswick. Beloved grandfather of Susan Gilchrist, Tamara Colbourne, David Gilchrist, Allan Brett and Susan Boileau, beloved step-grandfather of Bonnie, Kate and Amy LeBlanc and great-grandfather of Michelle, Jonathan, Stephanie, Kristine, Nathalie, Jessica, Mathieu and Melanie. Canon Brett was ordained to the ministry December 11, 1932 and served numerous parishes in the province of Quebec, until his retirement at Sutton, Quebec, in late 1973. He moved to Brighton in 1982. The funeral service will be held in St. Paul's Anglican Church, Brighton, Ontario, on Wednesday, March 28 at 2 p.m. Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery, Brighton. It is with deep sadness that the family of Bert Moonay announces his passing on March 18, 2001, in Winnipeg. Born in Russia on December 15, 1899, to Shalom and Golda Schlechovsky, Bert was the third of nine children. At the age of 20, Bert led his younger brothers and sisters in escaping from Russia. During their internment in Ireland, on their way to Canada, he uplifted their spirits. Bert laid railroad tracks in Kenora, Ontario, farmed, traded furs and operated general stores in Hubbord, Hamiota and Fosston, Saskatchewan. In 1929 he married Betty Weinstein, who predeceased him in 1985, after a marriage of 55 years. They moved to Winnipeg in 1942, where Bert owned various businesses before settling into a successful career as a hotel owner in Selkirk, Manitoba and then in Winnipeg. During his career Bert befriended and helped many people from all backgrounds and ethnicities. Bert Moonay is mourned by his daughters and their husbands, Lona and Allan Shafer of Winnipeg and Deanna and Saul Silverman of Ottawa; his grandchildren, Lesli and Don Selver of Winnipeg, Maureen and David Kling, and Ruth Silverman and Doug Knight, of Vancouver, and Eli Silverman and Debbie Phillips of Ottawa and his great-grandchildren Rakel Kling, Jordan Kling, Dana Tessler, Alix Tessler, Max Selver, and Avril Silverman, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters: Israel Mooney, Sonia Bookhalter, Rifka Zuckert, Libba Silverman, Joseph L. Moonay, Clara Portigal, Jonah Moonay and Isaac Schlechovsky. His funeral was held on March 20th at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue, Winnipeg, followed by interment at Shaarey Zedek Memorial Park. His family would appreciate that donations in honor of Bert Moonay's memory be made to the Food Bank at Agudat Israel Congregation, Ottawa; to Ottawa Hadassah-WIZO; or to a charity of your choice. (nee Walker) Peacefully at Carleton Lodge on March 18, 2001. Ruth is predeceased by her devoted husband and companion Jack Brake and her sisters Evelyn McCloy (Walker) and Mildred Walker. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters Sybil Anne of Ottawa and Bonnie Evelyn and her husband Bob Spooner of Calgary, by her adoring grandchildren Michael (Hana), Jennifer England (Ryan), Johanna (John) and Matthew, and by many friends and family members of all ages. Born in 1913 to George Frederick and Mary Anne (Napier) Walker, Ruth grew up on the family farm near Richmond, Quebec. Overcoming an early bout of severe arthritis, she graduated from the Montreal General Hospital in 1933. She later enlisted as a Nursing Sister in the RCAF where she dazzled Flying Officer Jack Brake at Moncton, New Brunswick. They were married in 1943. After the war, Ruth continued hospital nursing to put Jack through dental school in Montreal. She then took on the responsibilities of running their hectic practice in Scarborough, Ontario. Ruth also volunteered with the Crafts Group at Centenary Hospital, proudly earning her 25-year pin, and was a faithful member of St. Paul's United Church there. In 1993 she moved to Ottawa, residing at Billings Lodge and then Carleton Lodge, and attending First United. Ruth will long be remembered for her friendly helpfulness, her hearty laughter, her generous love for her family and their friends, her delight in cats and other furry creatures, her pleasure in music and her joy in the Barbados-like waves at her beloved Sharp Lookout on Georgian Bay. A celebration of Ruth's life will be held at First United Church, 397 Kent Street in Ottawa at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 26 with Rev. Sharon Moon officiating. The family wish to express their enormous appreciation to all the staff and volunteers at Carleton Lodge for their unfailingly compassionate, loving care of Ruth over the past five years, enabling her to maintain her cherished dignity to the very end. She will be sadly missed by her beloved husband Jack of forty-four years and her children Debbie (Rodney), Sandy (Ricky), Michael (Cindy), Shannon (Bruce), Patrick (Kathryn), Jacky-Lynn (Pierre), Joanne and grandchildren Andrew, Christopher, Ryan, Jonathan and Sarah, her sister Grace (Maurice) and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and many friends. Donations to the Cancer Society and/or Heart and Lung Association would be greatly appreciated. A special thanks to all of the nursing staff on the 3rd floor of Ste. Agathe Hospital.
