AKSICH, Captain Anton "Tony". 1919-2004. Passed away at his residence surrounded by his family. We mourn with deep sadness, the loss of Anton, adored husband of Xenia Kay, beloved father of Anthony (Carol) and Madeline, loving grandfather of Caroline and Alexander. A graduate of the Dubrovnik Nautical Academy, he became a master mariner. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He represented his country in the U.N. Maritime Activities. After moving to Canada in 1956 he was Vice President of March Shipping, Clarke, and ultimately with Zim Israel Navigation where he and his friend Capt. Jakobsons established Zim Canada. BICE, Vivian Erma (nee Conners). 1904-2004. Of Magog and Montreal in her one hundredth year. SCHPITZER, Vladimir (Wally) - It is with sadness that the family of Mr. Vladimir (Wally) Schpitzer announces his passing at the age of 57 years. Wally was born in Regensburg, Germany on March 16th, 1947 and spent two years in Belgium until his family immigrated to Kirkland Lake in 1951. He was a longtime resident of Kirkland Lake and even though his years of service with Ontario Northland Telecommunications took his residence to Haileybury, he always considered Kirkland Lake his home. Wally was predeceased by his mother Maria (Kozakova) in 1975 and his sister, Switlana (McNamara) in 1999. He is survived by his father Paul at Extendicare in Kirkland Lake, his sister Lydia Dredge (husband Herb) of Wiarton and his brother Victor (wife Jo Ann) of Kirkland Lake. Wally also leaves his niece and nephews; Jacqueline Dredge, Neile McNamara, Kieran McNamara, Aaron Schpitzer and Aarik Schpitzer. In keeping with Wally's life and beliefs, there will be no visitation or service. He will be cremated and his ashes interred with his mother at the Kirkland Lake Cemetery in the summer of 2005. Catherine Elizabeth Quinlan Funeral Mass for the late Catherine (Kay) Quinlan was held at the Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption in North Bay on Tuesday, December 21st. 2004 at 10:00 a.m. Active pallbearers were: Greg Follett, Roger Goode, Joe Murphy, Ford Piercey, Michael Ward and Bob Wood. Members of the CWL Honour Guard were Lorraine Atcheson, Velma Bonany, Peggy Dillon, Mildred Puddister, Joanne Sokolowski and Pearl White. Celebrant for the Mass was Monsignor Norm Clement, assisted by Dean McCubbin, Rene Duquette, Gary Duquette, Gus Gosselin, Emmette Rainville, Lyall Vezina and Dan Kilty. Readers for the first two readings of the liturgy of the Word were: eldest daughter, Sister Gertrude Quinlan (formerly Sister M. Dominico), Nancy Koch, granddaughter and Bonnie Washer, niece lead the Prayers of the Faithful. Monsignor Norm Clement proclaimed the Gospel of St. John and delivered a powerfully moving homily. Family members in attendance were: Sister Gertrude Quinlan c.s.j. (Sr. M. Dominico) of North Bay, Elizabeth (Liz) Piercey and her husband, Ford Piercey of Pasadena, New Foundland, eldest grandson, Greg Follett and his wife Kelli (Lundquist) of North Bay, only granddaughter, Nancy Koch (Follett) of Fort McMurray, Alberta, sister-in-law Mary Ryan of Toronto, nieces Bonnie Washer, of West Hill, Kathy Elliot, of Mississauga, Patricia Whitney of Frankville, Ontario, Rita Purcell, of Smith Falls, Ontario, nephew Joe Murphy and his wife, Pat, of Smith Falls, Ontario, grand-nephew, Brian Ward of Oshawa and dear friend, Patricia Potvin of Montreal. Others participating in Catherine's final Eucharistic Liturgy were her many North Bay friends, including especially the Sisters of St. Joseph and members of the Motherhouse Nursing Staff. The Quinlan family would like to thank all of those who celebrated their mother's life at the funeral home on Monday, especially CWL members who led us in prayer. A special thank you to Sister Monica Kulas, and Sister Shirley Potvin and Patricia Potvin for leading us in a beautifully prepared prayer service. Marie for their charitable works, or other registered charities, the family extend their heartfelt gratitude. ATTREE, Nora Mary Born March 17, 1912 in Sapton, Manitoba, Mary is a graduate from the University of Manitoba. In WWII she served overseas in France, Belgium and Holland with the number 8 Canadian General Hospital. She was a member of the Zonta Club since 1957. After working with the RCMP for 26 years, she retired in 1972. During her retirement she volunteered for the CNIB and her church and enjoyed some travelling. She leaves behind many friends and family and is lovingly remembered by her brother William Attree, sister-in-law Beatrice Attree, nieces, nephews and great nieces. Mary is predeceased by her parents Joseph and Ellen and siblings Jack, Harry, Geoff, Edward and Ruth. At Mary's request, there will be no memorial service. She will rest in the family plot in Brookside Cemetery, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. FUND, Rosa It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother Rosa Fund of Smiths Falls. Born in Montreal on January 1, 1917, the daughter of the late Goldie and Abraham Winter. Rosa was married in 1939 to her beloved late husband Hy Fund for 24 years. Following her husband's sudden death Rosa assumed the ownership of Hy Fund Studio for 28 years until her retirement at age 75. Rosa will be ever missed as a mother by her daughters - Roberta Fund, Donna White (Richard), Shelley O'Dell (Ernest) and Patricia Fund Salem (John Carter) as a Bubi by her grandsons Brendon White (Rebecca), Shane O'Dell (Laura), Patrick and Aaron Fund Salem as well as a great-Bubi by her great-grandchildren, Justin and Abigail White. In addition, Rosa leaves behind her sister Pearlie Kates, her brother and sister-in-law Sam and Bertha Winter and her sister-in-law Sylvia Winter (the late Charles). BETHEL, Frances Josephine, M.D. Peacefully, in hospital after a sudden illness, in her 89th year. Beloved elder daughter of the late Percival Humber and Lilias Josephine Shelton of Regina, Sask. and Montreal, loving wife for 60 years of the late Lt. Col. Vincent Walter Bethel and dear mother of Patricia and Margaret (Mark). Predeceased by her sister Charlotte Althea and an infant sister Lilias. After a first year at Luther College, Regina, she graduated from the University of Saskatchewan, completing the pre-med programme in the old Greenhouse there and continued her studies at the University of Toronto, from which she graduated in the class of 1940. As an Army wife, she spent a peripatetic career in Kingston, Eastern Passage, Ottawa, Montreal, Shrivenham, England and Edinburgh, Scotland. She interned at Women's College Hospital, worked during the war at the Kingston General, in several Montreal hospitals including the Children's Memorial and later in Ottawa at the NDMC, CFB Uplands, the Department of Health and the Ottawa Separate School Board. Former Treasurer and President of the Medical Women's Association of Ottawa, enthusiastic rockhound, member of the WLC and the Canada Korea Society. She had a phenomenal memory, a wicked wit and a passion for travel. BONVICINI, Giuseppa Passed away at the age of 89 with her daughter and son-in-law at her side. She was predeceased by her husband Albino, brothers Antonino, Ferdinando and Giuseppe and sisters Concetta and Maria. Krystina, Melissa, Jessica and Erika were the love of her life and they will greatly miss their "cara nonna". She leaves in deep sorrow her only daughter Elisa and son-in-law Meziane Zeroual, her brother Frank (Ciccio) Labocetta and many nieces, nephews and friends. As a mother, nonna, wife, aunt, sister, mother-in-law or friend, Giuseppina demonstrated that no obstacle is too great to overcome. She has touched the lives of everyone she has met and to the end everyone had a special place in her heart. "Grazie mamma dell'amore incondizionale che mi ha sempre dato. Sarai per sempre nel mio cuore". The family would like to thank the staff on the 3rd floor at Island Lodge for the affectionate care they gave her, the dialysis units, first at the Riverside Campus and then at the General for their care. BROWN, Doris nee Tombs (Socially involved in different organizations especially the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 54) From Gatineau, (Buckingham) at the age of 77 years. She was the wife of the late Lyoness Brown; daughter of the late Ernest Brown and the late Agnes Clark. She leaves her children: Joe (Dianna), Martin (Ann), Carol-Anne and Bob (Karen). She was the grandmother of 5 grandchildren; Kristie, Jessica, Bethany, Erin, Corri and 1 great-grandchild; Gabryel. Survived by her brothers and sisters; Buster (Vivian), Agnes (late Jimmy), Gertie (Bob), Benny (Rose), Ronnie (Irene), Barbara, Richard (Nicole), Robert (Ada), Lynn (Leonard) and Lynda (Gilles).
