Dad was a member of The First Special Service Force, serving overseas during WWII. He returned to Canada and began a long career with Canada Customs. TAYLOR, Peg (Margaret Helen McArthur). With love in our hearts, Brian and Terry, Peg's children, return their Mum to the keeping of Tom who predeceased Peg in 2002. Peg was born and raised in Montreal under the keen Scottish eye of Jessie and Tam. Mum is also survived by her dear companion Jacki, Tom's brother, sister, McArthur and Ogilvie cousins, nieces and nephews. Brian and Gail gave her three grandsons whom gave her much pleasure. Her five great grandchildren added many hours of joy and pride to her eighty-four years. Mum had a zest for life and a wonderful smile that glowed when she was with friends and family. Peg had a generous heart and was always working on her next dream and buying her next lottery ticket. She left us all this charming Scottish wish: Laing may your lum reek. NANDI, Biswa Nath, PhD Peacefully in his sleep after a short illness at the Heart Institute. Born March 1, 1923 in Calcutta, India. Beloved husband of 34 years to Benu. Proud father to Amit (Jeea) and loving grandfather of Kiran. Retired after 26 years of distinguished Public Service in the Government of Canada, achieving the position of Head of Coke and Coal Research at Energy, Mines & Resources Canada. PhD from University of Karlsruhe, Germany having received the prestigious Alexander Von Humboldt Fellowship. He is the author of more than 70 research publications including landmark papers in his field that are still actively cited; holds many patents and has the distinction of being the first post-doctoral fellow in the Mines Branch. KNEELAND, ELSIE MURIEL - The death of Elsie M. Kneeland, wife of the late Frederick Kneeland occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a rather brief illness. Born in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late James and Hermina (Heys) Rossiter. Elsie lived most of her life in West Saint John. She worked at the DVA Hospital for many years in the Operating Room Pack Room. Elsie was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish. She kept busy, knitting and crocheting for family, and was an avid reader. Elsie's family was the center of her existence; she idolized her children and grandchildren; she will be truly missed by all her family and friends. Elsie is survived by two daughters, Nancy Kneeland, Halifax, NS and Patricia Watters (Dan), Dartmouth, NS, two grandchildren Danielle and Andrew Watters. She is predeceased by two brothers Barnard and Lloyd Rossiter, four sisters Matilda Chipman, Beatrice Walsh, Gladys Hulme and Margaret Frazee. Bill was predeceased by his daughter Cathy, his twin brother Robert George and his sister Anna Mundy and was a loving brother to Helen and Caulus Cummins and Alvin and Violet Blair. Barb and Jay Stanford, also Larry, Teri, Bob and Juliet will miss the love and support of their wonderful father. The grandchildren, Stuart and Grant miss their #1 fan, Christy and Tyler, the phone calls and cuddles, Ben, Kevin and Cole, the quiet times on his lap. They will all miss Granddad's laugh and special times by the pool. Bill was a retired employee of Air Canada and the family wishes to extend many thanks to our wonderful family and friends from all accross the country for their love and support during this time. Allan E. Marttila 1962-2004 Marttila - It is with great sorrow that the family announces the sudden passing of “Boobie” Allan Edward Marttila at the age of 41 years. Allan was predeceased by his father Donald Marttila, his brother Donnie Marttila and his step-father Richard Deslaurier. He will be sadly missed by his mother Yvonne Deslaurier, his sisters Debbie (Gary) of King Kirkland, Sheryl Wilson (James) of Kirkland Lake, Kelly Burak (John) of Kirkland Lake, his brother Ritchie Deslaurier of Kirkland Lake, and his children Cassandra Doty and Jordon Marttila of Kirkland Lake; his step children Angela, Roger and Tara. MARIE TOEWS PENNER Marie Toews Penner was born Feb. 7, 1916 in Steinbach, Man., the fifth of nine children born to Klaas R. and Amelia (Borkowsky) Toews. The family farm where she grew up, north of Steinbach, is the present site of the Mennonite Heritage Village. After the family moved to Steinbach, they continued spending the summers on the farm. Her early education was at Clearsprings School and later in Steinbach. In 1936, she married William Penner. They moved to Colenso, Ont. in 1949 and then to Kenora, Ont. in 1966. After her husband suffered a stroke in the 1970s, they began spending the winters in Yuma, Arizona, where they made many good friends. In 1986, they moved back to Steinbach to Fernwood, and many times she expressed how grateful she was for her wonderful friends and family here. Marie was gifted by the Lord to use her home and hospitality to serve the needs of pastors, missionaries, neighbours, and family. Her church was vitally important to her. Her Bible and Christian books sustained her in times of loneliness and grief, and joy. Marie also was admired for her beautiful crafts, knitting, and crocheting. She donated many useful articles to the Ladies Mission Society, and to people less fortunate. Her quiet concern for others endeared her to all of us. For a number of years, she was committed to canvassing in Fernwood for the Association for Community Living. Marie is survived by two sisters, Elvina Loewen (Dave) of Steinbach, Man., and Rosalind Reimer (Clarence) of Seattle, Wash.; two daughters, Sylvia Smuland (Alvin) and Marilyn Landry (Gus); four grandchildren, Brad Smuland (Sarah), Kimberley Purscel (Dave), Shane Beckett (Kari-Lynn), and Aaron Beckett (Paula); and five great-grandchildren, Joshua Smuland, Samuel and Matthew Purscel, and Hayley and Jayla Beckett. She was predeceased by her parents, Klaas and Amelia Toews; husband, William; six sisters, Minna Reimer, Elizabeth Friesen, Anne Peters, Elma Rempel, and Romelda Toews; and one brother, Johnny Toews. She had a special place in her heart for Colleen and Raymond Coté, to whom she was “Grannie.” Funeral services were held at Cornerstone Bible Church in Steinbach, where she has been a member, on Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at 2 p.m., with viewing prior to the service. A viewing also was held at Loewen Funeral Chapel in Steinbach on Monday, March 26, 2001 from 7-8 p.m. Should friends so desire, donations in her memory may be made to the Association for Community Living.

MARY JANNETTE SADDINGTON Word has been received of the passing of Mary Jannette Saddington, 54, of Calgary, Alta., after a courageous battle with cancer. Jan is survived by two daughters, Lisa and Michelle; and her precious grandson, Caden. She was the eldest sister of Brian Harris and Shirley Whitefield of Fort Frances, Ont., as well as numerous other brothers, sisters, and family across Canada. Jan was predeceased by her husband, Bill Saddington, in September, 2000; her parents, Mary and Fred Harris; a twin sister at birth; an infant sister; and an infant nephew.
