Anne-Marie Fortin 1922-2009 Au Centre Hospitalier MGR Ross de Gaspé, le 26 octobre 2009 est décédée à l'âge de 87 ans et 3 mois, Mme. Anne-Marie Fortin, fille de feu M. Antoine Fortin et de Feue Mme Dolorèse Fournier demeurant à Gaspé. Elle laisse dans le deuil 1 fils: Paul-Émile Fournier (Florida), 3 petits-enfants, 6 arrière-petits-enfants, ses ami(e)s et le personnel du Pavillon Mgr Ross. La famille recevra les condoléances à la chapelle du Pavillon Mgr Ross, ce mercredi le 4 novembre 2009 de 9h00 à 10h30. HEHR , Karen Gae 1962 - 2009 It is with overwhelming sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, sister, aunt and niece on October 31, 2009. Karen is survived by her mother Valerie, her brothers Daron, Kenton (Shelby), Byron (Joan), her sister Heather, and her aunt Ethel as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and her beloved dog Chelsea. She will also be missed by countless friends. Karen started her career with Rogers Cable in Calgary. She then moved to Lethbridge to anchor the 2 & 7 Television News. Karen returned to Calgary as a news producer for Global Television. Karen's family would like to thank Global Television and Viola Teuling for their outpouring of love and support during this time. Karen will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and quick wit but most of all for her absolute bravery during her battle with cancer. At Karen's request, no Service will be held. ROWE, Pamela Jill It is with great sadness the family of Pamela Rowe report her death at Victoria Jubilee Hospital, B.C., on October 20, 2009, following a brief but severe illness. Pamela was in her 47th year, born November 1, 1962. She was the dear daughter of the late John F. Rowe. Left to mourn her passing are her mother Doris Little, her step-mother Thora Rowe, her sister Molly (Timm) Chapman of Arizona, brother Blake (Joanne) Rowe of Langley, B.C, step-brother Derrick Fuller of Ottawa, step-sister Esme Fuller-Thomson (Murray) of Toronto, aunts and cousins, nieces and nephews. PATTINSON, Rachel Congrave (nee Campbell) Our precious mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Rachel Pattinson of Edson, Alberta passed away October 29, 2009 in Edson at the age of 99. She was admired and loved by many as a strong lady, a role model to her family, and a kind and loving person of high values. She was a very special lady to her family and all who knew her. Raye leaves her family to treasure a lifetime of wonderful memories: her son George (Margaret) Congrave of Denver, Colorado, her daughter Elizabeth (Mel) Soltys of Edson, Alberta and her grandchildren Melinda-Rae (Colin) Lyse, Greg (Sherry) Soltys, Raeleen (Randall) Dyck, her brother Duncan Campbell, sister Betty Parnham, and special friend Marie Bailer. Great-Nana leaves Mya Rae, Ty, Jenna, Brianna, Justin and Samantha with fond and loving moments that they shared with her - they brought her great joy! Born in Dunbarton, Scotland in 1910, Rachel spent her childhood years in Montreal and Edmonton before marrying George Congrave and spending a short few years in Edson before his untimely passing. She then moved to Edmonton where she worked and continued to raise her children. In 1954 she married Jack Pattinson and lived her remaining years in Edson, working with Jack in their general insurance agency and then enjoying many years of retirement in Edson and Hemet, California before his passing. Her interest in her church, Eastern Star, and many social activities kept her busy until the last few years when she was not able to be the very active lady she always had been. A Celebration of Rachel's life will be held Saturday, November 7th, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from the Edson United Church at 1214 Edson Drive. IRELAND Julia Margaret Ireland (nee Scott) passed away on October 31, 2009 at the age of 93 years. Born in Carlisle, England on September 7, 1916 Julia's family came to Canada when she was 5 years old. Mom attended Prince Arthur elementary school and the Technical High School. After high school she worked candling eggs until World War II broke out and she moved to Oshawa, Ontario where she worked in a munitions factory assembling anti-tank shells. Upon moving back to Moose Jaw, Julia worked as a cashier at Safeway. It was there that she met her husband, Ernie Ireland. Mom then devoted the rest of her life to her family. Her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren were all precious to her and she loved to spend time with them. The doors to our home and cabin at Buffalo Pound Lake were always open to friends and family and Mom loved to be surrounded by young people. Mom's friends from the Moose Jaw Lioness Club, First Baptist Church, the Mulberry Estates and Timothy Eaton's were also very important to her and she enjoyed many happy times with them once her children were grown. Another favorite pastime of Mom's was oil painting and she left a legacy of wonderful works of art for us to cherish and enjoy. Predeceased by her husband, Ernie Ireland, her parents James and Mary Scott, brother Bill Scott, sisters Eunice Todd and Esther Gibson, Julia is survived by her children (all from Moose Jaw): Garnet, Doug, Vi (Bevin) Leipert, Jack (Sharon), Bill, Jeannette (Chuck) Cole, and David (Tara), 14 grandchildren, and 5 greatgrandchildren. Also survived by brother James (Margaret) Scott, sisters Lucille Binnie Chicago, Winnie Baker Saskatoon and Vi Clothier Moose Jaw, sister-in-law Laura Ireland Estevan, cousin Joyce Percival Carlisle, England and dozens of nieces and nephews. The Celebration of Julia's life will be held at the First Baptist Church, 1010 Main St.N., on Thursday November 5, 2009 at 3:00 pm. Pastor Barry Gammie will officiate. Memorialization will take place at Prairie Memorial Columbarium. Grace Hlady (Nahachewsky) September 19, 1921October 30, 2009 Grace, the eldest child of Maria and Nicolai Nahachewsky, was born on a homestead a few miles from Swan Plain, Saskatchewan. She and her three sisters and six brothers lived the pioneer life before electricity, milking cows, baking in an outdoor clay oven and doing the endless household and farm chores. She completed her formal education at Polecapelle School a short distance from her home. A few years later the Polecapelle School teacher, Bill Hlady, was worried that he would freeze to death in the flimsy teacherage so he became a border with the Nahachewsky's. Bill and Grace were married in the Swan Plain Catholic Church in 1940. When World War II arrived Grace, with her first son Herb, spent time in Victoria while Bill was training in Esquimalt and then with her parents while Bill was overseas. Grace and Bill had four more children, Len, Ed, Lilah and David. They lived in a variety of small towns in Saskatchewan. They finally build a home and settled in Langenburg. Grace, besides being busy with the family, enjoyed gardening, curling and making afghans for her children and grandchildren. She was active in the Catholic Church, Ladies' Auxiliary of the Legion and the Royal Purple. Her last years were marred by Alzheimer's which led to three years in the Langenburg Care Home. After Bill's death in September 2008 she moved to a Care Home in Saskatoon where she was relatively healthy until her death. She is survived by her five siblings; Alex, Elizabeth, John, Virginia and Veronica; her five children; Herb (Lorraine), Len, Ed (Marina), Lilah Cram (Mart) and David (Lori); ten grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Mass will be held for Grace at St. Peter and Paul Ukraine Catholic Church (10th Street and Munroe Avenue) at 1:00pm on Friday, November 6th with interment to follow. IN LOVING MEMORY LYNNE (MAGDALENA) BAKER November 17, 1923 - November 1, 2009 On November 1, 2009, Lynne (Magdalena) Baker of Edmonton passed away peacefully at 85 years of age, after a few months of ongoing recovery from a broken hip. She will be fondly remembered by her friends and family for her strong Christian faith, her dedication to teaching, and her heart for charity locally and worldwide. Lynne was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Alice Baker, her siblings George Baker, Minnie Baker (1911), Catherine Anderson, and Minnie Plantinga. Left to cherish her memory are her brother, Charles (Betty) Baker, numerous nieces and nephews, friends from Beulah Manor, the Beulah Alliance Church and numerous students from the Philippines whose studies she supported. She will be especially missed by her friend, colleague and travel companion, Margaret (Bouwman) Younghans. Raised on a homestead in Neerlandia, Alberta, Lynne, as she preferred to be called, was determined to be a teacher but during the war years there was enough work on the farm. Her teaching career began in 1954 in a two room schoolhouse in Neerlandia. After that she went on to teach in Whitinsville, Massachusetts, Kalamazoo, Michigan, Edmonton Christian School, Namao school, in the Philippines and closed out her career teaching at Newton School in Edmonton, retiring in 1984. Teaching opportunities had opened up the world for Lynne and she and her dear friends and colleagues Jenny and Margaret traveled widely. Her time teaching in the Philippines was especially dear to her. She felt privileged that she had so many opportunities to travel and to have witnessed how other cultures worked and lived and believed deeply that her greater service was where ever the Lord would lead her. She daily cherished God's grace and promises and devoutly served her Lord, living her life in service to others. Lynne appreciated the excellent care from hospital staff at the Misericordia Hospital and the Lynnwood Care Centre in Edmonton. The Funeral Service and Reception will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Neerlandia Christian Reformed Church with Pastor Dave Tjart officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee or the Salvation Army. Adored mother of Linda and John Raco, Argelia and Chris, Rob and Jess. Brenda and Al Testa, Alyssa and Jarek, Audrey and Luigi Albano, Marcello, Amadeo and Zaira. Also survived by her loving brother and sister-in-law Armando and Leona Ceccucci, Son Dino and Shannon Ceccucci, Sophia and David. Loving sister to Argelia and Mario Crosta, and family (Italy). Predeceased by her parents Bernardino and Zaira Ceccucci, her brothers Roberto and Quinto (Italy). Loving sister-in-law to Giuliana Ceccucci and family (Italy). Virginia had many caring cousins, friends and neighbours. Virginia was a ray of sunshine in any garden. Her extra caring, giving and love towards others reflect a great example of unconditional love. Virginia enjoyed working with her "second family," the girls at J. Michaels Fashion at Devonshire Mall for many years. She immigrated from Italy at 18 and built the foundations of a family who stood by her strength during a courageous two- year battle with Hep C. Our family would like to extend our gratitude to Dr. S. Farjalla and his staff Kim and Nicole who, through his expertise, faith and compassion granted us two more precious years of memories. Thanks to all the nurses on the forth floor at Met hospital for their ongoing support, Nina for the best possible meals, and a special thanks to her "sister" Leona who faithfully stayed by her side with hope, love, and a spoonful of soup. Special thanks to Youssef and his staff for making her hair always impeccable. Virginia was also a member of the Caboto Club for over twenty-five years. For the past couple of years, Virginia has fought heroically so that she could live to see her seven grandchildren laugh and grow. They adored and loved their Nonna Gini. George Charles Abbott It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the death of George Charles Abbott on October 31, 2009 at the age of 92 years. He is lovingly remembered by his three daughters, Cheryl (Harold) Lejbak, Kaeren Lawrence, and Denise Keith; seven grandchildren, Terese (Jim) Pratt, Candice (Warren) Jack, Ryan (Kelly Kozak) Lejbak, Lisa (Dwayne Demeester) Lejbak, Kristin (Jon) Awde, Jodi Silbernagel, and Daylene Silbernagel; twelve great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many good friends. George was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 67 years, Beryl Abbott, in August of this year. He is also predeceased by his parents; siblings Annie, Johnny, Sam, and Eddie; son-in-law, Paul Lawrence; and grandson, Robert Lawrence. George was born on April 19th, 1917, in Melfort Saskatchewan. As a young man, George began his career working at OK Economy in Melfort. It was there that he spotted Beryl Flower walking by the store window and knew he had to meet her, leading to 67 happy years of marriage. George and Beryl settled in Saskatoon, where George became a successful businessman who always put family first. George was an avid Saskatchewan Rough Rider fan and became a season ticket holder in 1952. In more recent years, he watched games from home and discussed every play with his good friend, Al Boechler. George was also interested in classic cars, and collected miniature antique cars. George touched many people throughout his life, and was known for his acceptance and sense of humour. During the last two years, George and Beryl lived at Caleb Manor, where they cultivated a new set of wonderful friends. George will be remembered as a kind and compassionate man who eagerly shared his winning smile, hearty laugh, and twinkle in his eye. He was our rock, our guide, and our friend, and will be in our hearts forever. The family would like to thank Dr. A. Mettle for his years of compassionate care, and the staff at City Hospital (Transitional Care) for their excellent care during his final days. In keeping with George's wishes, a private family gathering will be held to celebrate his life. CLARKE, Merlin George It is with great sorrow that the family announces Merlin's passing on October 20, 2009, at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon. Merlin was born on March 6, 1935, to Fredrick and Emmeline (Hewlitt) Clarke of Netherhill, SK. He attended Muriel and Netherhill Schools and later the School of Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan. In 1962, he married Elda Armstrong of Forgan and together they shared over 46 years of happiness at Netherhill, Kindersley and Saskatoon. Their son Courtney completed their family and has brought much pride and joy. Merlin was a dedicated husband and father, farmer, community worker and volunteer. Though family came first, he enjoyed his work on the St. Paul's Church Board, the Agriculture Committee, the Kindersley Home Care Board and especially his work as Area Representative and Provincial Chair for the International Agricultural Exchange Association as well as acting in a variety of rolls including Exalted Ruler of Kindersley Elks. Merlin's loyalty to family, friends, associations and businesses showed in all interactions. His stories and sense of humour endeared him to those he encountered in his journey through life. Few will forget his love of teasing, his easy wit and his cheerful smile. Merlin was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Kenneth; as well as infant siblings; Leonard, Thelma and Joy; mother-in-law, Winnifred Armstrong; sisterin-law, Greta Clarke; and brothers-in-law, Ross and Murray Armstrong. He leaves to mourn his wife, Elda; son, Courtney (Dawn) and grandchildren: Sadie, Kit and Emmy; as well as his nieces and nephews: Sharee (Glen), Rae, Darlene (Dave), Ross (Jean), Mandy (Cory) and their families; brother-inlaw, Ritchie (Marlene); sister-in-law, Arlene and Carol and her family; as well as very close friends who have been beacons to the family. The family thanks Dr. Moser and nurses from RUH for their care and support during the past few weeks of Merlin's life as well as all those who sent prayers, messages or visited. Dear brother of Pearl Mifsud and her late husband John, Blanche Boughner and late husband Chet, and predeceased by Ben and Agnes Charbonneau, Tim and Annie Charbonneau, Ulie and Nellie Charbonneau, Alphonse and Olive Charbonneau, Beatrice Renaud and late husband Fred, the late Fred and Vina Eaton, the late Oliver and Marg Cabanaw, and Albert and late wife Marg Wallis. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Mr. Charbonneau was retired from the City of Windsor following many years of service. The family would like to extend thanks to the staff of 8 West at Hotel Dieu Hospital, the staff of Windsor Regional Hospital-Western Campus, as well as the Rehab Staff and Social Workers, and to the staff of Palliative Care 3rd Floor at Malden Park for their care, compassion and support during this most difficult time. Visiting at the WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME 1700 Tecumseh Rd., East on Tuesday November 3, 2009 from 2-5 & 7-9 pm. Funeral Service Wednesday November 4, 2009 at 11:00 am in the Chapel. Graciously officiating will be Earl's son-in-law, the Rev. George Rogers. Interment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.
