COOPER Graeme Merrill Gould Born July 17, 1933 succumbed peacefully to mesothelioma on October 10, 2009 at home surrounded by his loving family. Left to mourn him is his beloved wife of 54 years, Lyn (nee Hill) and children Mark, Ross (Barb), Nancy (Davidson) and Susan, five grandchildren, Lindsay (Chris), Matthew, Sally, Russell, Anne and his great-grandchild Lily. Graeme's greatest joys in life were his family and his friends. A memorial service to celebrate Graeme's life will be conducted by Reverend Dr. Adela Torchia at St. David and St. Paul Anglican Church in Powell River at 2 pm on Saturday, October 17. DEFRANOULD, Claudine 13 septembre 1942 - 8 octobre 2009 Notre chère Claudine s'est éteinte jeudi dernier après avoir passé une année éprouvante, aux prises qu'elle était avec la maladie. Claudine laisse dans le deuil sa fille, Célina, ses soeurs Roseline et Anne-Lise, sa mère, Georgette ainsi que ses amis dont l'amour et le soutien n'ont jamais fléchi. Née au Val-d'Ajol, en France, Claudine était établie au Québec depuis de nombreuses années. En France et au Québec, elle pratiqua la profession d'infirmière dans des centres hospitaliers et des résidences pour personnes âgées. Dans sa vie professionnelle comme dans sa vie personnelle, Claudine a toujours fait preuve d'une grande générosité et d'un intérêt marqué pour le bien-être d'autrui. On se souviendra d'elle comme d'une femme souriante, accueillante, pleine d'énergie, qui aimait sans juger, qui donnait sans compter et qui embellissait l'existence de ceux qui la côtoyaient. Bien que la mort l'ait délivrée des souffrances physiques et psychologiques qu'elle endurait depuis des mois, il n'en reste pas moins que son départ cause chez tous ceux qui l'ont connue et aimée une peine et un vide immense. Souhaitons qu'avec le temps qui passe, les souvenirs heureux viennent cicatriser peu à peu notre plaie encore vive. KUSS, Sophie 2009-10-15 Sophie Kuss, 82, passed away in Lions Gate Hospital, North Vancouver, with her family at her side on Fri. October 2nd 2009. After leading a long healthy life, she fell ill rather suddenly with Leukemia and never recovered. Sophie was born and raised on a small farm near Rama, Saskatchewan with her 3 brothers and 5 sisters. She was educated at Boxmoor School near Rama and a Business College in Regina. She obtained employment at RCAF Stn Winnipeg near the end of WWII. She married an RCAF airman, Ernest James (Jim) Kuss in 1949 and had 4 children together. The family saw most of Canada with the various postings they had with the RCAF. During the early 60‘s, Sophie and her family enjoyed extensive traveling throughout Europe while posted at a NATO Fighter Base in Marville, France. Sophie worked at Chapples in Thunder Bay during the late 70‘s and later with the Red Cross until she retired. Sophie liked walking with her neighbors and working in her yard. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, traveling and spending time with her family. Sophie was generous to many charities and was a member of St. Dominic‘s Catholic Church. She relocated for the last time in 2005 to North Vancouver for a warmer climate and to be closer to her daughter, Val. Sophie is survived by her daughter, Val (Bruce) Matthews and grandsons Jason and Donovan, her son Dan (Cheryl), only granddaughter, Melanie (Jake) Busniuk, her grandson, Jimmy and her son, Ken (Heli). Sophie is also survived by her sisters, Anne Sopkow (Kamsack, SK), Carrie Bishop (Nanaimo, BC), Helen (Albert) Bollenbach and Theo Riddell (Winnipeg, MB). Her only surviving brother is Michael Serron, of Rama, SK. Sophie was predeceased by her husband, Jim (1971), daughter, Gail (1999), her good friend Ken Christophersen (1996). Sophie was also predeceased by her brothers, Dan (1944), Walter (2006), and sister, Olive Leopkky (2004). Interment for Sophie will take place on Sat. Oct.17th with Father Dan from St. Dominic‘s, officiating, with family and friends in attendance. In lieu of flowers donations to the ALS Society of Canada 265 Yorkland Blvd. Toronto ON. M2J 1S5 in Sophie‘s memory would be appreciated.

June Lillian Forrester It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother June Lillian Forrester on Tuesday, October 13, 2009. June rejoins her husband, George Forrester, who passed in 1998. She is lovingly remembered by her eight children, daughters, Janice (Larry), and Nancy (Stan); sons, Colin (Ann), Stewart (Candace), Richard (Heather), Cam (Tammy), Scott (Tanny), and Andrew (Brenda); and granddaughter, Christine who lived with Grandma June through her teens; 16 other grandchildren and two great grandchildren; as well as her brother, John Palmer and sister-in-law, Lillias (Jim) Gracie, also remember mom with enduring love. June was born in Skaneateles, NY in 1922. She moved with her parents to Corner Brook, Nfld. at the age of 6. She attended Mt. Allison University in New Brunswick achieving a home economics degree in 1942. While a student there, she met George who was serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force. They were married in Crossett, Arkansas after the war and settled in Saskatoon, George's home. June loved art and was an extremely talented handcrafter. We all have benefitted from her beautifully crafted gifts. June was active in the Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed the many long-term friendships she made there. She was a private, gentle, kind woman. She will truly be missed. Funeral service will be on Monday, October 26 at 10:30 a.m. at Saskatoon Funeral Home (338-4th Avenue North). AILSA MARION GREGORY November 24, 1919 October 11, 2009 On Sunday, Mom left her earthly world to join her heavenly Father. Waiting for her are her parents, George and Isabel (Sinclair) McLean; her son, Colin; and the love of her life, John Gregory. Mom left to mourn her son, Ross of Rosetown, his wife, Laurie and their children, Marion and Rob; Colin's widow, Lenore of Burnaby and their daughter, Meghan; John's brother, Ken (Jill) Gregory, Ken's daughters, Sue (Peter) Barlow, Judith (Guy) Donaldson, Penny (Errol) Albon and their children; along with other various relatives in New Zealand and the United States. Mom was a regal, loving, gentle woman that loved art, her books and her church. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and their visits. Mom was born in Christchurch, New Zealand where she studied to be a Dental Nurse. During the war, she met John. Married after the war, John's job later took them all over the world. After living in Los Angeles, Boulder and New Westminster, BC and travelling through Europe, the family settled in Saskatoon, in June 1965. Mom obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts and started to work as an interior designer. She later left that profession to start work for the Saskatoon Public Library where one of her favourite jobs was working on the Bookmobile where she met many of Saskatoon's residents. After her family had spread, Mom later moved to Oliver Lodge where she had her last Art show. At the time of her passing, Mom was a resident of Porteous Lodge where she was still entertaining her friends. Mom will be sorely missed and as per her wishes, a private family service will be held. McCOURT, Reginald (Bud) - At North Bay General Hospital-Scollard Site on Wednesday October 14, 2009 at the age of 73 years. Beloved husband of 49 years to Huguette Marchand. Dear father of Calvin (Sandy) of Mississauga, Michael (Michelle) of Barrie, Andrew (Marisa) of North Bay. He was a loving grampa to Mitchell, Megan and Sierra. Also survived by his sisters Betty Metcalf (Alan predeceased) of Chatham, Janice Krause (Romeo) of Petawawa, brothers; Jim (Linda) and Richard both of Elliot Lake. Predeceased by his parents Reginald John McCourt, Isabel Marcoux, two brothers Keith (Rose surviving) and Ronald (Lola surviving). Bud was an Ontario Provincial Police Officer for over 35 years with the Englehart and North Bay detachments. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved spending time outdoors with family and friends. FERGUSON , Ruth Talitha With great sadness, the family of Ruth T. Ferguson announces her passing on October 12, 2009 at the age of 89 years. She was predeceased by her husband and best friend of seventy years, Edward (Ed) in 2008. Ruth is survived by her daughter Elaine (Robin) Rankine, son Lorne (Sharon) Ferguson; grandchildren Laurel Rankine, Lorne (Noreen) Rankine, Bonnie-Lynn (Roger) Deeg, and Lorna Ferguson; great-grandchildren Jesse and Nickleaus Rankine, Jordan and Daelyn Deeg. Ruth was born on March 24, 1920 in Cardston, Alberta. In 1937 she met Ed Ferguson and on the 27th of March 1938, just three days after her eighteenth birthday, Ruth and Ed were married. Ruth and Ed spent their entire married life in the Gleichen, Alberta area where they farmed until retirement. Ruth was very involved in the Gleichen community, proudly serving as a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion. She was a warm, gentle, hard-working, honest person who always had a light in her eye and a very keen sense of humour. She was genuine, kind and sincere in her heart, selflessly giving to her family and to her community. Her passing will leave a tremendous emptiness in our hearts. WILCOX, Melvin - on Tuesday October 13th, surrounded by family and friends, Melvin Wilcox left us in body but not in spirit or memory. Mel was the devoted husband to Beverly. Loving father to Tracy and step father to Dale Evans (Andrea) and Wendy Coombs (Tim). Mel spent many hours of laughter and will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Alexis and Nash Coombs. He is survived by his brothers Clarence (Lorraine), Gord (Linda), Wayne (Geraldine) and his sisters Ruth, Gladys (Ralph), Gloria (Larry), Sandra and Eileen. Mel's arrival to the world beyond will be most welcomed by his parents Gordon and Bessie, his brothers Lloyd, Glen and John, and ‘honorary' brother Bert Boulard. Years of enjoyment and fond memories were shared by his nieces and nephews Kelly and Tim, Cindy and Dave, Mike and Julie. Mel was employed by Union Carbide preceding his retirement. MACDONALD Martha November 27, 1925 - October 10, 2009 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Martha Macdonald. Martha was born in Greenock, Scotland and immigrated to Canada in 1967. She resided in Richmond, B.C. until her loving husband George passed away in 1994, when she moved to Maple Ridge, B.C. to be closer to her daughter Gladys and her girls. She will be missed dearly by her daughter Gladys West (Mike Davies), Granddaughters; Shelley West, Charene Roberts (Mark), sister; Mary Coyle, brother; Ralston McKay (Jetta) as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family in Scotland. McMULLEN - Sylvia F.E. (nee Bourne) 03/22/45 - 09/23/09 Passed away suddenly of congestive heart failure. She was born in Vancouver and lived on Gambier Isl. on a small chicken farm with mother Florence, father Edward Bourne and half brother Albert Coward, who all have predeceased her. Married young to Frank McMullen she had 2 children, Edward (1962) and Cheryl (1963) (Brad), 3 grandchildren, James, Stacey and Cindy. She leaves behind partner in life of 41 years Patrick Hartford. Sylvia worked for the Bank of Montreal at 10th and Granville for 32 years to retirement and another 6 years part time as a check fraud detecter. Gardening gave her particular joy and she loved all sports - played on the bank baseball team and bowled 10 pin for many years. She enjoyed knitting and cross stitch, etc making many baby outfits for family and friends, and afghans she loved to give away. Her Boxing Day open house became a Christmas tradition for lots of family, friends and neighbors. She was much loved and will be missed by many including Shilo. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at Revs Bowling Centre, 5502 Lougheed Hwy, Burnaby on October 17, 1-4 pm. In lieu of flowers donations to Children's Hospital. FOLEY Helena Jane (Lena) Passed away peacefully October 8, 2009 at Delta Hospital at the age of 87. She is predeceased by her husband Ignatius (Ed). She will be lovingly remembered by her wonderful sons Noel (Cheryl), Allen (Bonnie), David, and Richard (Stella), grandchildren Jamie, Sean, David, Brian, Anthony, Melissa, and Mathew, sisters Florence, Patricia, Barbara and brother Richard. Born in Dublin, Ireland, June 12, 1922, she immigrated to Canada with her young family in 1954. As a young woman Lena excelled at field hockey and later in life grew to love the game of golf. She was an adventurous traveler, loved the arts, and especially enjoyed the time she spent with her family. But her refuge was chasing that crazy little ball around a golf course. She was an inspiration and an example for all who knew her, an immigrant who built a new life for her family with determination and a relentless and indomitable optimism. Her kindness and generosity touched all who met her. We are all profoundly grateful to be touched by someone who will forever inspire us. Funeral Mass will be celebrated by dear friend Father Michael Martell Thursday, October 15 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 3900 Arthur Drive, Delta, BC. Winnifred Elsie Semeniuk 1955 2009 The passing of Winnifred Elsie Semeniuk, age 54 years of Saskatoon, SK, occurred on Tuesday, October 13th, 2009 at St. Paul's Hospital, Saskatoon, SK. Winnie is survived by her husband, Fred Semeniuk; mother, Catherine Kime; daughters, Teresa Melnychuk (Brian), Melissa Tibbotts (Nathan), Kindra Melnychuk; son, Corey Garrett (Deanna); numerous grandchildren; sisters, Eloise Zimmer (Bill), Adele Pask (Murray); stepchildren, Darcy Semeniuk, Cindy Toews (Mike) and Jason Semeniuk (Sharona). She was predeceased by her father, Lewis Kime; brothers-in-law, Mike, George and William (Bill) Semeniuk; numerous nieces and nephews. Winnie was born in Winnipeg and raised in the Yorkton District. She was a survivor devoted to her three daughters. She did everything from carpentry, sawing down of trees, decorating her house, making it a good home for her children. Winnie took a business course and worked at Enviro-Safe Chemicals and treated it as her own working there for many years. She spent 18 years with the love of her life, Fred. She survived through breast cancer then years later she was dealing with a brain tumour. She lived at Parkridge Centre for two and a half years. Her family was very important to her. She took great joy in her grandchildren and looked forward to their visit. She enjoyed a good laugh. She was a strong person and showed great courage in the face of her illness. Winnie will be remembered as a strong determined survivor. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 17th, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th Street, turn right before railway crossing) with Reverend Daryl Woods officiating. SALOME Constantine (Con) May 2, 1916 - October 2, 2009 Con passed away suddenly but peacefully at home at the age of 93 years. During his lifetime Con enjoyed working on the Fraser River and up the B.C. Coast as a fisherman and fish buyer. Con was married to his loving wife Anne for 67 years and was a wonderful Dad to his three daughters Connie (Jimmy) Duncan, Roberta (Jerry) Stanley, and Joan (Ed) Egli. He was predeceased by his son George. He was also the world's best Grandpa to his five grandchildren Heidi (Richard), Alana, Richie, Mandi and Casi, who will deeply miss him forever. MYHILL, Douglas Alfred - passed away peacefully at Kingston General Hospital late on October 1, 2009 in his 90th year after a long and courageous battle. A Memorial Service will be held October 31st at St. Paul's Anglican Church in Westport, Ont., at 2:00 p.m. where they lived for 20 years after his retirement as Director General of The Department of Supplies and Services and previously Director of the Department of Defence Production in the Canadian Government in Ottawa.
