PONSFORD, Harley Albert (Sonny) Passed away peacefully on October 4, 2009 at the age of 85 years. Loving husband of Shirley (nee Allan) with whom he celebrated 58 years of marriage. Cherished dad to Pattie and husband Bill Laframboise and Vic and husband Brett Wade. Beloved Buba to Laura and Clinton Laframboise and Ellisha and Jackie Wade. Dear brother to Madelon wife of the late Paul Bouffard, Joanne Kinsman, the late Jane Ponsford. Harley will be missed by his many nieces, nephews and cousins in the St. Thomas area. Harley was a long standing and dedicated employee at Chrysler Canada. He was a very active member of Corpus Christi Church and served as usher for many years. He served in the Canadian Air Force as a World War II veteran seeing active service overseas. An original member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 594 for 36 years. Harley will be known for his generosity to many charities and organizations. He was an avid sports enthusiast and a gentleman with a green thumb. If you so desire memorial donations to Corpus Christi Church or charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. Cremation has taken place. PRICE, Larry Edward At Woodingford Lodge, Woodstock on Wednesday, October 7, 2009. Larry Edward Price of Woodstock in his 71st year. Beloved husband of the late Carol Price (nee Ebert) and the late Mary Price (nee Jefferies). Dear father of Dan Price and his wife Pam of Courtland, Larry Price and his wife Liz of Windsor, Laurie of Guelph and Gwen Reeves and her husband Pat of Woodstock. Loved grandfather of Daniel, David; Christine, Sherianne, Joshua; Natasha, Curtis, Zachary; Brandon, Abbey and Spencer and great grandfather of 7 great grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents Borden and Rowena Price; brother Harold Price; son Timmy Price and granddaughter Carolyn Price. Larry was an exceptional fastball player; in his early years playing in the Woodstock Industrial fastball league. In his early years, Larry worked for Lou's & KF Marshall Trucking and ICL in Woodstock, as well as Trans-Fraight Trucking, Windsor in his later years. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place. The burial will take place in Straffordville at a later date. ST. LOUIS, Ernest Passed away Friday, October 9, 2009 at Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital at the age of 92. Beloved husband of Monica (1989). Loving father of Judy Ferguson (Ken), Mary Elizabeth (Dave) and predeceased by Ron (1998) (Ann Marie 2004), Bob (2007) and survived by daughter in law Sue Peltier. Cherished grandfather of Tracey Burkitt (Trevor), Aaron (Kristen), Kristine Graceffa (Carm), Dan and Jillian Ferguson. Step grandfather and great grandfather of the Burkitt, George, Peltier and Grant families. Predeceased by sisters Irene, Lottie, Dorothy and their spouses. Survived by several nieces and nephews. Ernest retired from Bell Canada in 1977. He was a Canadian Forces Veteran. Ernest was an avid lover of antique cars of which he owned several. He was a faithful usher and alter server at Our Lady of The Rosary Catholic Church. LATAM-KITTS , Jayne March 4, 1956 - October 6, 2009 We lost our mother and best friend, Jayne, on Tuesday, October 6, 2009. Jayne was born in Bristol, England on March 4, 1956. She immigrated to Canada at a young age and grew up in Vancouver with her sister. Mother of Matthew, Jordan, Amanda, and Jennifer and also life partner of Richard Lapka, Jayne was the rock in our lives. She was a wise, intelligent and beautiful woman inside and out. She touched many, many lives and had many friends. Jayne had a beautiful smile with a full-hearted laugh that could brighten anyone's day. Her kids always came first. As long as they were happy, she was too - that is what made her a great mother. She will be greatly missed by all her friends and family. "With love always." Jayne moved to Calgary in her twenties and joined the Calgary Herald Advertising Sales team in 1990. Jayne loved her work at the Herald and had many great friends in both colleagues and clients. Émile Raby et de feu Mme Aline Demers Raby de Ferme-Neuve (Québec). Il était le frère dévoué de Gilles (Nicole Bénard), Francine (feu Victor Lavoie), Lorraine (Jean-Roch Boisvert), feu Andrée, Jean-Robert (Françoise Duplessis), Marthe (Denis Bergeron), Georges-Paul et feu Raymond (Louise Mathieu); beau-fils d'Alexander Johnston (feu Rita Hickson); beau-frère de David Johnston, Victoria Johnston, Karen Johnston (Norm Kenney), Kate Johnston (Chris Plunkett) et Jane Johnston (Rob Evans). Il était le bon ami d'Audrey Lahay. Il laisse également dans le deuil plusieurs neveux, nièces et amis ainsi que son chien adoré, Charlie. MURAKAMI , Arthur Claud July 21, 1924 - October 7, 2009 "Arthur" passed away October 7, 2009 at the High River Hospital at the age of 85 years. He was born in Drumheller, Alberta and worked in the coal mines until moving to Calgary in 1949. There, he worked for various construction companies until owning his own contracting business. Art enjoyed watching all sports on TV, loved to fish, curl, and he enjoyed friendships with all fellow curlers in Calgary and Nanton. Anyone wanting to play a game of cribbage, Art was first in line. Art is survived by his wife Ev (Evelyn); daughters: Brenda Halford (Fred) of Red Deer, Sylvia Potuzak (Garnet) and Sharlene Butz (Dale) of Calgary; sons: Anthony (Holly) of Calgary, Blain (Lee Anne) of High River, Walter (Bev) of Whitehorse; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law Mary and Gwen of Ontario. He is predeceased by his mother and father of Drumheller; four brothers and one sister. FORREST, Florence Beryl (nee Henderson) After a short illness, Beryl passed away on October 8, 2009 at the age of ninety-two. She was predeceased by her husband Harold, brother Gordon and her great-granddaughter Rebekah. She is survived by her sister Marion. Nous avons la tristesse de vous annoncer le décès paisible du Père Henri Marie Guindon, montfortain, à Ottawa (Vanier) le 8 octobre dernier Il était âgé de 101 ans et 10 mois. Il avait 83 ans de profession religieuse et 77 ans de sacerdoce. Le Père Guindon est né le 23 janvier 1908, à Plaisance. Ses activités pastorales furent nombreuses et à l'échelle mondiale, soit au Canada, ou en Amérique du Sud, soit à Rome. Durant une période de 12 ans, il fut Secrétaire à la Nonciature Apostolique (Ottawa). Il laisse le souvenir d'un apôtre marial comme prédicateur de renom, comme conférencier recherché, et comme écrivain prolifique. Pendant une quinzaine d'années, il s'est dévoué comme prédicateur et animateur à la Grotte Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes (Vanier), à Ottawa. En plus de ses confrères montfortains et de sa parenté, il laisse dans le deuil Madame Jacqueline Nadeau qui, avec grand dévouement, prenait soin de notre confrère. Les funérailles auront lieu le mercredi 14 octobre, à la paroisse Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, Ottawa (Vanier) à 11h00. PARMITER Marion (Karsen) Passed away peacefully at age 88 on October 2nd, 2009. Predeceased by her 1st husband, Len and son, Bryan Karsen and 2nd husband, Lyle Parmiter. Left to feel her loss are her children, Gerry (Sandra), Dennis (Kristie), Kaarin, Randy (Laurie) Karsen. JORDAN, Paddy (1921-2009) One of the happiest most positive men in the world passed away on the 7th of October, 2009. Paddy is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Edith; his son Mike and his wife Lori; cherished granddaughter Erin and daughter-in-law, Vera. He was predeceased by his son Rick in 1996. Also mourning his passing are sister, Margaret Tehan; brother, Jim Jordan and cousin, Mary Agnes Coffee as well as sister-in-law, Sharon Buck who suddenly lost her husband Wayne while she was staying with Edith, during Paddy's last days. Paddy will be fondly remembered by his numerous nieces and nephews, other family members and countless friends. He was born Francis Eugene Xavier Jordan on the 28th of November, 1921, in Marlbank, Ontario. He joined the RCAF and served as a physical fitness and drill instructor during WWII. After the war he left Ontario for Alberta, looking for adventure. He worked as a shot hole driller in the seismic industry and later sold drill bits, traveling throughout western Canada, the U.S. and the far north, making lifelong friends wherever he went. He married Edith in 1949 and after Rick and Mike were born, they established a home in Athabasca. Paddy left the oil patch in the mid 80's. He started guarding prisoners for the RCMP and continued as a guard for 22 years, finally retiring at the age of 85.Paddy was active with the Royal Canadian legion serving in the color party for several years. He had great faith and regularly attended St. Gabriel's Church. He enjoyed the fine art of conversation with or without a glass of wine or two. He loved life and everything was always "just grand." A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on October 13, 2009 at St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church in Athabasca. GROBB Amy Mary Born April 14, 1922 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, died Tuesday, September 29, 2009. Predeceased by her husband Frank, grandson Joseph, son-in-law Brian Henderson and survived by her daughters Linda Mann, Lorrie Henderson and Janie Wells (husband Rocky), grandchildren Leanne Arnott, Stephen Arnott, Lorrie Weiser (husband Nick), Julie Henderson, Charlie Henderson, Neal Wells and James Wells, and great-grandchildren Connor, Ben, Alexandra, Amy, Anna and Megan. Amy was a resident of West Vancouver since 1953, she played the viola and violin with the Vancouver Philharmonic, the North Vancouver Elgar Orchestra, and the College of the Desert Symphony in Palm Springs. She was a Director of the North Shore Branch of the CNIB, volunteer with the White Cane Club and member of the IODE in West Vancouver. She volunteered countless hours to help the blind in the 50s and 60s and was instrumental in the introduction of crosswalk audio signals which aid the blind at intersections. She also actively sought scholarships for the blind at UBC and supported the establishment of the Crane Library for the Blind. She was a competitive figure skater, winning many competitions at the Winnipeg Winter Club, including the Canadian Junior Figure Skating Championship and during her reign, skated at Madison Square Garden between periods of an NHL game. As an adult, she was a judge for figure skaters at the North Shore Winter Club. She had a degree in music from the University of Manitoba and at the age of 50 continued her musical studies at Capilano University. A memorial service will be held on October 18 at 3:00 in the chapel of West Vancouver United Church, 2062 Esquimalt Avenue, West Vancouver. CAMPBELL, Norman 2009-10-10 Dr. Norman Campbell age 89 passed away at the Grace Hospital October 4th, 2009. Norman Ebenezer Ross Campbell was born and raised in Fort William, Ontario where he resided and received his early education. Following graduation from the Ontario Agricultural College in 1944 and subsequent service in the Canadian Army, he began his academic career at the University of Manitoba where he received the MSc and PHD degrees in 1948 and 1960 respectively. During 40 years as a member of the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Science, he contributed to all aspects of academic life, teaching, research, and administration. He is survived by his wife Joan, sons David and Ken, daughter-in-law Colleen and the beloved grandchildren, Christina, Jeremy and Melissa. At his request, there will be no service of any kind. FOLEY Ignatius Francis (known to many as Ig or Ed) Passed away peacefully September 24 at VGH . He is survived by his loving wife Helena, sons Noel (Cheryl), Allen (Bonnie), David, and Richard (Stella), grandchildren Jamie, Sean, David, Brian, Anthony, Melissa and Mathew. Ig was born in Limerick, Ireland on May 9, 1923 and immigrated to Canada with his young family in 1954. He started Foley's Candies from his basement in East Vancouver supplying Canada's first three coloured candy cane to schools. Foley's Party Mints were a local favorite and as his business grew he became amongst the first to use Callebaut Belgian chocolate in his manufacturing. Following the sale of Foley's Candies, he became an importer and distributor of Callebaut and together with his sons built a group of chocolate distribution and manufacturing businesses across North America. It was to his credit that to consumers and professionals alike, Belgian chocolate became the gold standard for quality. It was a fitting tribute that in later years so many referred to him as the godfather of chocolate. A private funeral Mass was celebrated by dear friend Rev. Michael Martell of Sacred Heart Parish in Ladner. In his memory, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC. KAMENKA Charles (Gregory) Charles (Gregory) Kamenka died peacefully on October 5th in his hometown of Lillooet, British Columbia at the age of 71. In 1954 at 17 years of age Greg served as an officer of the Royal Canadian Navy Venture program. Following his service with the Royal Canadian Navy, he moved to Vancouver to attend UBC studying science becoming a microbiologist. He spent 22 years with BDH Chemicals where he attained the position of Vice President an appointment that eventually required a move to Toronto. After one year in Toronto he decided that lifestyle and fresh air were important so he moved himself and his family back to Vancouver and founded Valax Scientific and Engineering Ltd. He sold Valax in the late 90's embarking on a venture building his "Dream Laboratory" nestled in the heart of the mountains near his home town of Lillooet. Greg moved back to Lillooet and began research in the area of aquaculture providing vaccines to food and aquaculture business all over the world. He would spend much of his spare time in the jungles of Central and South America looking for special plant species as ingredients. His research ultimately led to numerous successful vaccines. As a hobby business he supplied medical/laboratory research equipment and technical consulting to many of the major motion pictures shot in British Columbia, including numerous television productions from 1983 to 2000. While living in Lillooet Greg became the mayor then recently was councilor at the time of his passing. Greg is survived by his wife Sharon of forty six years and their three children, Susan, Brent and Jennifer. Greg always put his family first and had a wonderful sense of humor. He will be missed by his family friends and even some of his political rivals. In lieu of flowers please provide a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of British Columbia. FORESTA, Emilia 2009-10-10 EMILIA FORESTA Reunited once again with her soul mate. It is with very heavy hearts that the family of Emilia Foresta aged 71 years announces her peaceful passing at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on the morning of October 7, 2009. Through this sadness, we also celebrate that Emilia has been reunited with her soul mate Giuseppe Foresta who predeceased her in 2005. Our parents are now together forever and will spend the rest of eternity as one. Emilia was born to Rosaria and Nicola Pucci on June 21, 1938 in Grimaldi, Italy. She traveled with her family to Canada in February 1959 on the Augustus docking in New York harbour and continued their journey to their new homeland, Port Arthur, Ontario. Emilia‚s fiancé, Giuseppe, arrived to Canada in late 1959. On February 20, 1960, Emilia and Giuseppe were married and spent 45 inseparable years together raising a family and enjoying life. Emilia was devoted to her faith, and was a member of the Catholic Women‘s League of Canada. In keeping with her Italian heritage, she was also a member of the Italian Women’’s Society of Port Arthur. She was a quiet and humble woman who spent the majority of her life as a homemaker. She was an amazing cook and talented seamstress. She loved her garden which allowed her to prepare bountiful meals for her family. She made her home a place of harmony and love for all who entered it. She will be remembered as being a devoted wife, a selfless mother and a caring Nonna. Following the death of her devoted husband, her heart was broken leaving her with a void in her life. However, she continued to be strong willed and courageous through the love and support of her family and special friends and from her daily prayers to her soul mate in heaven. Emilia was a beautiful person - a very gentle woman with a kind soul. Her passing leaves a tremendous void in all of us. She is deeply mourned as she leaves behind her greatest joys and pillars of strength: her daughter Carmela and her husband David Costanzo and grandchildren Courtenay and Adrian; son Claudio and his wife Karen along with Ryan; and son Danny and his wife Lori and grandson Joseph. Words cannot express how deeply she will be missed by her sisters Maria (Ernesto Pucci), Nella (Orlando Coccimiglio), and brothers Antonio (Beth) and Frank (Laura). She is also survived and will be lovingly remembered by in-laws: Vanda and Pasquale Bossio, Esterina Mauro-Ferrari and Ada Fidalic of Thunder Bay; Maria Fiume and those in Italy and Germany. Special - nieces and nephews, Godchildren, cousins and close friends, Compari and Comari will deeply miss her. Emilia was predeceased by her soulmate Giuseppe, her parents Rosaria and Nicola Pucci, her mother and father in law Carmela and Domenico Foresta and various other relatives. Funeral services celebrating Emilia‚s life will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2009, leaving the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley St. at Algoma at 9:50 A.M. to St. Anthony‘s Roman Catholic Church for Funeral Mass at 10:30 A.M. MELROSE , Bruce Cameron April 1, 1945 - September 30, 2009 Born in Red Deer, AB, Bruce was raised in Red Deer, Calgary and Medicine Hat, AB, Timmins, ON and finally Winnipeg, MB where he stayed to make a home and raise his own family. Along the way, he proved himself to be a focused and determined athlete in his youth, leading to excellence in baseball, track and a Provincial Championship 440 relay in the Winnipeg Arena. These same traits stood him well in the Royal Winnipeg Rifles with whom he served from November 25, 1961 to May 19, 1964, attaining the rank of Corporal. Easily a tweed and leather patch wearing history professor in another life, this life saw Bruce dedicating thirty years to Air Canada in return for which he received numerous commendations for exceptional service and the opportunity to share his love of travel with his family. He traveled extensively throughout Canada, the US and Europe, but as a proud member of the Scottish diaspora he returned most frequently to Scotland. However, his most significant trip was a year-long sojourn in Australia at the age of twenty-one where he met Donna Howes, the woman he would bring back to Canada to be his bride. Whether he was Bruce, Dad, Uncle Buck, Grandpa or Dadaji, he was as fiercely proud a father as he was an uncle, as loving a husband as he was a grandfather and the most loyal of friends. He was predeceased by his father Cameron Jackson Melrose and is survived by his mother Edith Marjory Melrose (nee McClellan), wife Donna Beverley Melrose (nee Howes), son Sean Cameron Melrose and his wife Vidushi Mittra Melrose (nee Mittra), daughter Erin Ruth Fagan (nee Melrose) and her husband Sean Patrick Fagan, brother Ross McClellan Melrose and his wife Sherri Melrose (nee Ellas), nephews Derek Terry McClellan Melrose and Garth Cameron Ross Melrose and grandsons Anuman Lochlannach Cameron Mittra Melrose and Conor Jackson Fagan. A renaissance man by any measure, Bruce was, over the course of his life, a writer and raconteur, an oenophile and gourmand, a student of military history and chess, a cross-country skier, recreational marksman, tropical fish breeder and collector of eclectic firearms, military memorabilia and fine wood pipes. In the final months of his illness, Bruce made his way to Powell River, BC and was welcomed into the home of Sean, Vidushi and Anuman. While he was a frequent guest of the Powell River General Hospital's Fourth Floor Med//Surg. Unit, he would spend as many days as possible at home on the oceanfront deck, watching eagles, sailboats and sunsets. Bruce's family would like to thank Dr. Bruce Hobson and the staff of the Powell River General Hospital and Evergreen Extended Care Unit for the compassion accorded him during his stay. He passed peacefully and with dignity thanks in no small part to them. While the family has chosen to have a small private memorial in lieu of a formal service, those wishing to commemorate Bruce may donate to the Powell River General Hospital Foundation, 5000 Joyce Avenue, Powell River, BC V8A 5R3 in lieu of flowers and the like. Whitelock, Glenn Thomas Philip 2009-10-10 Mr. Glenn Whitelock, age 73 years of Thunder Bay passed away peacefully in St. Joseph‚s Hospital, Hospice Unit on October 2nd, 2009 with his family at his bedside. Glenn was born on November 23rd, 1935 and raised in the town of Sundridge, Ontario. Glenn attended public school in Sundridge and high school in Sundridge and Burk Falls. He graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Forestry in 1962. He then began working in the industry as a Forester in Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay retiring from Abitibi Bowater in 2000. Glenn loved the outdoors especially hunting, camping and fishing. His hobbies were wood working and playing Cribbage at the 55 Plus Centre. He was also a member of the Kakabeka Legion. Glenn is survived by his wife of 28 years Marilyn Ruby Paris (nee Fisher), two stepchildren Keith (Deb) Paris and Valerie (Michael Toelly) Paris both of Thunder Bay and step grandchildren Carl, Anthony, Linda, Joey, Stephanie and step great grandson Dylan. Also surviving are his siblings Keith of Thunder Bay, Ruby Gorin of Steinbach, Manitoba, Joan (Fred) Coombs of Powassan, Ontario, Dale (Judy) of Breaside, Ontario, Marie (Karl) Naumoff of Richmond Hills, Ontario, Carl (Maren) of Edmonton, Alberta and sister-in-law Faye Whitelock of Huntsville, Ontario. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. He was predeceased by his father William, mother Grace (nee Boyes) and his brother Bruce. A Memorial Service for the late Mr. Glenn Whitelock will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 10th, 2009 (TODAY) in the Chapel of the HARBOURVIEW FUNERAL CENTRE, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Rev. Jan Stevenson. Visitation for family and friends will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at a later date in Strong Cemetery, Sundridge, Ontario.
