BOYKOWICH Nancy (Nastasia) nee Kureluk 1923 - 2009 Nancy Boykowich, our beloved mother and nana passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Vancouver General Hospital at the wonderful age of 86 years. Nancy (nana) will be sadly missed by her daughters Sharon and Lydia, son-in-law Martyn and grandsons Joshua, Jacob and Joseph. She will also be missed by her sisters Lena and Anna as well as nephews, nieces and many dear friends. Nancy loved life, especially her time outside in the garden, behind her beloved sewing machine, oil painting, bowling, traveling around the world, or spending time at home with her family, friends, and neighbours. Our little "Energizer Bunny" always made time for a late night sewing project, a silly prank, or a walk with Colby. Nancy was predeceased by her husband, Larry (Lover Boy) in 1979, her brothers, Bill, John, Frank, Bill, and sisters Helene, Sophie, Rose, and Elizabeth. Special thanks to Drs. CLARK William "Bill" Vance January 27, 1940 - October 4, 2009 Bill passed away at Burnaby General Hospital on Sunday, October 4th at the age of 69 years. Survived by Kathy, his wife of 42 years, and his sons Ken (Heidi) and Steve. Also survived by his sister Patti, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his mother Irene, father Percy, brother Mike, and sister Phyllis. Bill was born in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan. As a child, he moved with his family to Vancouver. Bill resided in Vancouver until he and Kathy married and moved to Burnaby where they raised their children in their home on a street of many close friends. Bill was known as a kind-hearted, gentle man, with a passion for all things to do with cars, hockey, and computers. He was always involved with the interests of his boys, offering encouragement, sharing his knowledge, and giving unconditional love. He had an uncanny ability to solve any problem and a willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone. He invited everyone to be included in his life, and it would be difficult to find a person that met Bill that didn't like him. He will be missed by so many whose lives he touched. The family wish to thank so many friends who lovingly supported Bill during his illness. There will be a celebration of his life at the family home on Sunday, October 18. COTTON Edwin (Bus) Peacefully on October 6, 2009 in New Westminster, BC at the age of 97. Bus served in the Second World Was in France, Italy and Holland. On his return he started with the Toronto Dominion Bank. He rose to Bank Manager and opened branches in Penticton and Kelowna. He retired as manager of the New Westminster branch. While in the Okanagan he served on the Board of the Mental Health Association. He was president of the Penticton Peach Festival. He enjoyed curling, golfing and sailing his boat on Okanagan Lake. After retirement in New West he and his wife Florence enjoyed extensive travel. Bus was predeceased by his wife Florence in 2000. Bus was much loved and will be missed by son David (Linda), daughter Marilyn (Dwaine) and granddaughter Katheryn. Bus died as he lived his life, in a dignified manner. EVERS Herbert Nickolaus Herb (Nick), born July 25, 1928 in Hamburg, Germany passed away quietly on October 3, 2009 in North Vancouver. Herb is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Theresia, their three children Karen, Cora (Greg) and Herb (Dorothy), grandchildren Ryan (Carolyn), Andrew (Amy), Lexie, John and Greer and great-grandchildren Ashton and Luca. Arriving as a young man in 1950, Herb spent his first two years in Noranda, Quebec before heading to Vancouver and North Vancouver. As a new immigrant, Herb seized the opportunity to learn the construction trade and through hard work became a project superintendent for several prominent general contracting companies. Herb was most proud of his involvement in constructing numerous hospitals and pulp mills and especially proud of projects such as the Maritime Museum, Eatons in the original Park Royal South, Carson Graham School, the Vancouver Stock Exchange Building and the Pacific Coliseum. Whether on the job site or at home, whenever Herb built anything, it was built on time, built on budget and built to last. Herb had numerous hobbies but his passion was model railroading including the construction of elaborate landscapes that thrilled his grandchildren. Papa will be greatly missed by everyone. GOETZE Paul 1923 - 2009 Paul Timothy Goetze passed away peacefully at St. Paul's hospital on 3 October, 2009 after struggling with his illness for some months. He leaves behind his wife Edeltraud, his sister Betty, his sons Andrew and Mark, and his grandchildren Gabrielle, Misha, Leana and Yuri. Paul was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1923 to a German family. He was the seventh of nine children, and was only 16 years old when WW II broke up his family and dispersed it across Europe. After the war he initially made his home in Berlin where he met and married Edeltraud. Paul and Edeltraud were married for 59 years and had two sons. In the late 1950's Paul moved his young family from Berlin to Westphalia, and then on to Canada - first to Ontario and then to Vancouver where he settled in 1966. Paul had a large and diverse circle of friends, and will be enormously missed by his family and all who knew him. His family wishes to thank Dr. Bin K. Lim and Dr. Chantal Leger, and Dr. Nikki Apostolos and her wonderful staff at the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul's Hospital for making Paul's final days bright and trouble-free. As those of you who knew Paul will appreciate, his life was a full one and one that does not lend itself to summary in a notice of this sort. Instead a Memorial Service will be held for Paul at Trinity Baptist Church (corner of Granville St. and 49th Ave.) on Saturday 24 October, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. (No flowers please.) GRIFFITHS Judith Anne January 3, 1946 - September 30, 2009 Judy, born in Vancouver and raised in West Vancouver, lived a remarkable life of sustained love and kindness. Her sense of adventure took her to work in the airline industry (Qantas, PWA, Canadian, Air Canada) in Australia, Honolulu, Calgary and Vancouver. Judy was kind, loving, generous, adventurous, courageous, fun and more fun. With these qualities, as well as humor, grace and dignity, Judy met a 10 year struggle with pancreatic cancer to thrive beyond the norm. Her love for daughter Amy and active role with her grandsons sustained Judy through these years. Judy was predeceased by mother Vera Mae, father Lloyd and nephew Jessie. Judy is cherished and lovingly remembered by daughter: Amy (partner Mark Paul), grandsons: Kaiden, Noah, Alijjah, and Mickyle Jude; sister: Nancy and many beloved friends. HEIDRICH Ambros December 7, 1907 - October 6, 2009 On October 6, 2009, our beloved Papa, Opi, Great-Opi and Great-Great Opi left us for a joyful reunion with Eugenia, wife of 70 years, who predeceased him in 2003, and baby daughter Angela. Born in Colelia, Romania. Left to mourn the passing of this gentle, faithful and devoted man are his children: Margaret (Tony) Fenrich, Andrew (Caroline) Heidrich, August (Pat) Heidrich and Maria (Manfred) Koestlmaier; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild with another due shortly, and many relatives and friends in Canada and Europe. Evening prayers will be held on Tuesday, October 13th at 7:00 pm, and Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, October 14th at 10:30 am at Holy Family Church, his parish since 1951, E. 32nd Ave. and Beatrice St., Vancouver. HEIM Ludwig Wilhelm Ludwig Wilhelm Heim, of Burnaby, BC, passed away October 5, 2009, at Burnaby General Hospital. Ludwig, known as Lud to his colleagues and Bob to his friends and family was born on March 2nd, 1933 in Karlsruhe, Germany. He earned his journeyman papers in metal working and at the age of 18 chose to make a new life for himself in Canada. On October 24, 1951, Lud set sail for Canada. Upon arriving, he worked in logging camps in Ontario and BC before moving to Vancouver in 1953 and re-entering the metal fabricating industry. Much of his career was spent in the truck and trailer manufacturing for such companies as Canadian Kenworth, Pacific Truck & Trailer, Freightliner and Willock Industries. He became a partner in Pop's Metal Products in 1977. The name was changed to Aspen Metal Products as the company expanded. He left in 1983 and along with his wife and son, formed Brenco Industries which continues to serve the metal fabricating industry. After retiring from Brenco in 1991, he continued to design and build a line of welding robots. Lud's career in the metal fabricating industry covered nearly 60 years. His name became synonymous with quality, perseverance and creativity. He was well respected for his honesty and hard work. Lud enjoyed sailing and for many years was active in the BC Mirror Dinghy Association. Ludwig is survived by his three children: Steve (Brenda) Heim, Cindy Bickford and Kim Heim and his six grandchildren: Stephanie, Laura, Tyler, Brandon, Vanessa and Ryder. He had two brothers, both deceased and a sister, Hilde Hein, who continues to live in Germany. Sadly, his wife, Lorraine Dale Heim nee Vigurs, who he married on June 23, 1956, passed away in August this year. He will be dearly missed by his friends, family and the many people in the metal fabricating industry that he influenced and helped along the way. KNEALE - John September 8, 1936 - October 8, 2009 Our beloved husband, father, gramps, and friend has passed away peacefully after a prolonged illness. John was predeceased by his father Thomas Kneale, and mother Alice Kneale. John is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years Mary Kneale, son Tom Kneale, daughter Brenda Baarts (Steven), sister Marg Hansen (Cliff), and his four grandchildren Greg Baarts, Justin Baarts, Nicole Kneale, Kevin Kneale. A celebration of John's life will be held Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at St. Michael's Anglican Church 12996 60th Ave. Surrey, B.C. at 2:30 p.m. Reception to follow immediately after. LAWRENCE Edna Florence Passed away peacefully October 8, 2009 at Lions Gate Hospital after a long battle with cancer. She is survived by her loving husband of over 49 years, Rudy, stepson David (Riun) Lawrence (Barb), stepdaughter Donna-Marie Hockley (Raven), seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sister Dorothy Davies, plus two nephews and their families in England and Australia. One of Edna's greatest enjoyments in life was ballroom dancing and in recent years line-dancing. She leaves many friends from line-dancing and her involvement with Silver Harbour Senior Centre including many longtime friends. Her pleasant, easygoing, helpful manner will be missed. The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to Dr. Paul Klimo and staff at Lions Gate Hospital for their kind loving care of Edna on her final journey. A celebration of life will be held for Edna at First Memorial Funeral Services Boal Chapel, 1505 Lillooet Road, North Vancouver on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 1:00 pm. MCROBB Bruce James August 19, 1959 - October 1, 2009 Bruce passed away due to complications arising from liver disease, with family at his side, at St. Paul's Hospital. He is survived by his loving partner Cathy Laking, parents Gordon and Evelyn of Whitehorse, sons Jason of Victoria and Gordon of Whitehorse, step-son Ted of Whitehorse, grand-daughter Aurora of Nanaimo, brothers Ron of Edmonton, Don of Terrace and Gary of Whitehorse and many other relatives. Born at Royal Columbian Hospital, Bruce was raised on Dansey Avenue in Coquitlam and attended Austin Heights, Como Lake and Centennial High schools. He resided in Terrace and Prince Rupert before moving to Whitehorse, Yukon to raise his own family in the company of parents and brothers. He later became an owner and president of Pacific Northwest Freight Systems Ltd and president of the Yukon Transportation Association. Friends are invited to join his family for a Celebration of Life in Whitehorse on October 24, 2009. For more information, email: gm@northwestel.net. MIEDZYGORSKI Abraham 1923 - 2009 It is with love and great sadness that we announce the passing on September 30th, 2009 of our beloved husband and father, Abe Miedzygorski; aged 86 years, born May 3rd, 1923. He is lovingly survived by his wife of 62 years, Goldie, and daughter, Sally (Sid), sons David, Hershel (Avril), Sid (Merle) and grandchildren Alex, Holden, Adam and Sara, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Susie and Chaim Micner, nephews, nieces and cousins. He will be greatly missed by his many extended family members and friends whose lives he touched. He was born in Lodz, Poland, was a Holocaust survivor, and came to Canada in 1948 to start a new life. He was the proprietor of Abe's Second Hand Store on Main Street for over thirty years. His greatest joy was his family and he was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. We will all miss his big smile, great sense of humour, warmth, generosity and devotion to his family. The funeral was held on October 1st at Schara Tzedeck Chapel. Donations can be made to the Vancouver Holocaust Centre, or charity of your choice. MURRAY Denis Wm (Den) It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Denis W. Murray on October 1, 2009 at 86 years of age. Born in Vancouver on August 2, 1923, Denis served in the RCAF from 1941 to 1945 and spent his working life at CPR/VIA rail. Denis will be sadly missed by June, his wife of 59 years, daughters Marilyn (Bill), Carol (Ray) and Linda (John), and four grandchildren: Russell (Beverly), Wendy, Ryan and Jenna. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Bert and Ken. After retirement, Den enjoyed his cabin in the Cariboo where the family gathered for many happy vacations. A gathering of family and close friends will be held on Saturday, October 17 at 2pm at Burnaby Alliance Church: 8611 Armstrong Ave, Burnaby. DR. PARKS M.D. John September 01, 1915 - September 09, 2009 John was born in Vancouver, B.C. and later moved to Burnaby with his parents and sisters. He attended school in Burnaby where he graduated from Burnaby South High School. He later attended U.B.C. and the University of Alberta. He then went on to McGill University where he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine. He was a physician in the armed forces during W.W. II and thereafter practiced medicine in Vancouver and Burnaby until 1992. John was a loving and devoted husband to Christine. He always gave his unconditional love and support to his family and friends. Predeceased by wife Christine Mary (nee Wilson) on April 23, 2005, sisters Emma McCammon and May McCammon and brothers-in-law Tom McCammon, Robert McMynn, Ronald Wilson and Les Wilson. Survived by daughter Penny (Robert) Pearson, son Brian (Linda) Parks, grandchildren Steven (Stephanie) Pearson, Jeffrey Pearson, and Jessica Parks (Richard DeSousa), great-grandchildren Shannon Pearson, Anthany and Aaliyah DeSousa, sister Doreen McMynn, brothers-in-law Jack (Elaine) Wilson, James McCammon, sisters-in-law Elsie Wilson and Gladys Wilson and nieces and nephews. PEARCE Leonard Frank December 26, 1951 - September 12, 2009 Died suddenly in a motorcycle accident near Fort St. John, B.C. Survived by his daughter Jackie, sisters Heather and Laurel (Brad) and his nieces Jessica and Dorianna. Leonard was born in North Vancouver, BC and raised in Lynn Valley. His nomadic lifestyle led him to Gibsons, Trail, Houston, Kelowna and Tumbler Ridge with other stops in between. Len embraced nature and was happiest heading out on the highway with the wind in his face. Leonard enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was always available to lend a hand. He will be dearly missed by his family and his many friends throughout the province. A Celebration of his Life will be held on Friday, October 16 at 2 pm, Lynn Valley Cardinal Hall, 3950 Mountain Highway, North Vancouver, BC. Please come and share your memories. PECHET Orla (nee Bjornson) Quietly, in the presence of her family, Orla died at Lion's Gate Hospital near dawn on October 7. Orla was born in Wynyard, Saskatchewan on December 14, 1931, of Icelandic parents. She shone in many roles, mainly as a wife and mother but also charmed customers at the Pro Shop in North Vancouver, Torchy's in Edgemont Village, and as a realtor. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Orla is survived by her husband of 57 years, Torchy. She leaves to mourn her children, Kris (Blue), Kim (David) and Bill and her grandchildren Ahren, Katrina, Danielle and Zak along with her best friend and brother Harrill and his children and grandchildren who played a big part in her life. ROGERS Olive Emily (nee Eden) On September 26th, 2009, Olive slipped away peacefully in her sleep with her daughters by her side just two days before her 94th birthday. Olive resided in Burnaby for the last five years after a lifetime in Maple Ridge. She was born and raised in Hammond. Olive was predeceased by her husband Bill (1994) and her son George (1982). She will be greatly missed by her daughters Rosemary Griffin (Don), Susan Ward (Jim), grandchildren Lisa Tear (Mike), Greg Griffin (Leanne Bowman), Chris Ward, Michael Griffin (Heather), Colin Ward and two great-grandchildren Logan and Aidan Tear. She had a keen appreciation for the beauty in life, and remained mentally active with diverse interests. SEBOK Frank May 1, 1928 - October 2, 2009 It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness the family wishes to announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved Father, Grandfather, Husband, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Frank Sebok, who tragically died in a car accident in the Northwest Territories on October 2, 2009. SHAYLER Charles Robert April 9, 1923 - October 4, 2009 Charles (Chuck) Shayler was a good man. He always cared for others and had the ability to make people feel special. Chuck passed away at home in the early hours of October 4, 2009. He is predeceased by his wife Gloria (2002) and daughter Sharon (1994). He is survived by his sons Bill (Myra) and John (Chris), grandchildren Tom (Sue), Michelle (Glenn), Donna (Tasha), Laura (Mark), Lisa, and Lee, eight great-grandchildren, and his brothers Ed and Don. Chuck was born in Winnipeg where he grew up in a large family. He moved to Vancouver in 1939 and joined the Canadian Armed Forces, rising to the rank of Sergeant. In 1944, he married the love of his life, Gloria Errico, began his job with the B.C. Electric as a streetcar motorman, and soon became a father. In Chuck's words: "He lived the best of lives." He was loved by many and will be greatly missed, but his goodness, caring, humour, and a twinkle in his eyes will live on in others. The family wishes to express our special thanks to the residents and staff of Seton Villa for their friendship, support and care. Chuck requested that no formal funeral services be held. SOMERVILLE Audrye Joan Don Somerville and his family are sad to announce the passing of their beloved wife and mother Audrye, Saturday morning, October 3, 2009. She died peacefully in her sleep at home. She had six children: Rob (Teresa), Chris (Greg Norton), Pat, Pam (Jack Minor), Liz Richens, Dee (Terry Petersen) and more great-grandchildren. Audrye is also survived by her sisters Hazel Brown and Kay Gilders and several nieces and nephews. She was born in Port Simpson, BC, and raised in Prince Rupert, then moved to Vancouver and met Don working at the Vancouver Sun. They bought the Oliver Chronicle in 1959 and moved to Oliver to raise their family. A celebration of Audrye's life was held at St. Edward's Anglican Church, Friday, October 9, 2009 at 2:00 pm. WARDROP Lyle Alexander Born - March 19, 1941 With great sorrow, that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend Lyle Wardrop. Lyle was born in New Westminster and passed away on October 1, 2009 in Langley after a brave battle with cancer. Lyle is predeceased by his mother Isabel, father John and sister Patsy. Lyle will be sadly missed by Pat, his wife and life partner. He loved being part of a large family and leaves behind his son, Bernie (Melodie), daughters Leila (Peter) and Marie , step-sons Brian (Yaneisy), Craig (Blanka), Steve (Nadine), brothers Jack (Marilyn), Darcy (Darlene) and sister Kelly (Dwight), 11 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Lyle was in the car business for over 50 years and made many friends who will miss his stories, jokes, wit, hospitality and generosity. His friends will remember Golden Mile Motors, Surrey Center Motors, United Auto Brokers and International Waterbeds. He was a faithful supporter of the Surrey Lions Club. Lyle enjoyed his time with his grandchildren. Early in life, Lyle enjoyed acting. He loved his time on his boat the Waterbed Queen, fishing in Brentwood Bay, and time on Newlands Golf course. WEBSTER-PAXTON Sonja Eila November 13, 1935 passed away peacefully on October 3, 2009. Sonja first emigrated from her native Finland to England in 1959 to pursue her nursing career, and where she met her first husband Clive. They both immigrated to Canada in 1966 and settled in North Vancouver. In 1997, Sonja welcomed the Paxton family into her life by marrying her second husband James, who predeceased her in 2004. Sonja was a lover of nature and pets, and enjoyed long walks in the woods with her dog. Sonja will be sadly missed by her son Nigel Webster (and Fiance?e Angie Fritz), step-children April, Malcolm, and James Paxton, and by her grandchildren Joshua Paxton (April) and Abbey Fritz (Angie). LIEBROCK, Floyd Morley Born November 18, 1931, and passed away Friday, October 9, 2009, at 77 years of age at Leamington District Memorial Hospital. Late of Wheatley. Best friend and companion of Wyona Bailey and the late Edna Beddard (1992). Predeceased by his parents Perry and Jean Liebrock. Loving father of David Liebrock and wife Morria, Prince George, B.C.; Janice Veneziano and husband Mario, Schreiber, ON; and the late Mark Liebrock (1993). Cherished grandfather of Justin, Jesse and Jon Liebrock, Jillian, Doriana, Mariah and Shania Veneziano, and Kristine Liebrock; and great grandfather of Courtney and Cameron Liebrock. Dearest brother of Shirley Aertes and husband Andre, and the late Larry Liebrock and wife Karen. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Floyd will also be missed by Wyona's children, Larry Derbyshire and wife Ruth Ann, Bill Derbyshire and wife Linda, Robert Derbyshire, Kay Shaw and husband Robert, Ronnie Derbyshire and wife Edith; and their 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Floyd was an employee with Ontario Hydro for 25 years after which he worked for the Township of Terrace Bay in the maintenance department until his retirement. Floyd was also the caretaker for the Wheatley Friendship Club, a lifelong member of Royal Canadian Legion Branches throughout Northern Ontario and Essex County. He loved being outdoors, working with his hands, he was always there to help a friend in need, and he will be missed by his two four legged feline friends Blackie and Kit Kit. PINKOWSKI, Lois October 10, 2008 As one year comes to a close, I can only say thank you Mom. As time carries on, so will the ache. The pain of a loss will heal, although the ache still remains to hear your voice. Knowing the "To Do List" no longer exists, the sudden stop of what one enjoyed doing leaves me empty, but being your friend first leaves a lasting smile.
