BARONE, Agnes Ella (Dool) - (1927 - 2009) It is with profound sadness that the family of Agnes Barone announces her passing on Saturday, July 11 at Sudbury, Ontario, at the age of 82. Agnes was the beloved wife of the late Louis Barone (1922 - 2008). She will be sadly and deeply missed by her children - Linda Wilson (Bob) of Sudbury and Gary (Barbara) of Oakville; grandchildren - Stephanie Barone of Oakville and Justin Barone (Lisa Logan) of Guelph; and great granddaughter, Jade Barone of Guelph. Agnes is lovingly remembered by relatives in Ontario, Calgary, and California. She is predeceased by her parents, the late Archibald and Lucy Dool; by brothers Archie, David and John; and by sisters Sarah Watson, Annie St. Amand and Jennie Leclerc. Born and raised in North Bay, Agnes worked in retail until her retirement. She then assisted her husband with Lou's Antiques, the shop he owned and operated on McIntyre Street East in North Bay for nearly 20 years. Agnes and Louis moved to Sudbury in the summer of 2006. Anne Marie was born in Weymouth, N.S. and married John Deveau in 1946 in Weymouth, N.S. A longtime and well liked Levack resident, Anne was a devout Roman Catholic who attended St. Bartholomew's Church and she had been a member of the parish CWL. She had a wonderful green thumb that produced beautiful flowers in her garden. She enjoyed knitting and giving her creations to family and friends. She was an excellent cook who made delicious pies and fudge. She will be remembered as an opinionated person who was devoted to her loving family. Beloved wife of John Deveau of Levack. BECKETT, John John S. Beckett passed away in Windsor on July 12, 2009, after a short illness. John was the son of the late Henry Beckett and Sarah (Todd) Beckett of Oxford Mills. He was predeceased by his wife Beryl (Hamblen); his brothers Fred & Doug and their wives; his sister-in-law Verna Roe (Kingston) and brother-in-law Arnold Lundy (WA). John was the much loved uncle of the families of Joyce Earl-Wills, Smiths Falls; John Beckett, Ottawa; Marion Fuder, Killaloe; Todd, Hal and Jerry Beckett, Winnipeg; Eric Hamblen (Fla); David Hamblen (Kingston); Arlene, Karen and Paul Lunday (WA). John retired from the OPP in 1984 and lived on Pelee Island until 2007 when he moved to a retirement home in Kingsville. LaBONTE, Raymond Albert Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) Passed away peacefully, on Monday, July 13, 2009, in his 98th year, at the Carleton Place Hospital. Beloved husband of 59 years to the late Lillian Helen Kluke. Cherished father of Margaret Young (Gerry), Montreal, Phyllis Allen (late Earl) Aylmer, Carol Tyers (Bud/Ernie) Pakenham, Raymond Jr. LaBonte (Darlene) Aylmer, Richard LaBonte (Sharon) Dunrobin; also survived by his spouse Dorothy Jennings LaBonte, Ottawa. Dearly loved and fondly remembered by his 17 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Ethleen Narlock. Predeceased by his parents Delina Fremo and Albert LaBonte and his siblings Edward, Clifford, Elsie and Carl. Ray, with his late brother Clifford, owned the Garden Service Station on the Aylmer Road for 25 years. He was a lifetime member of the Aylmer, Quebec, Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 33. He sang with the Rex LeLacheur Choir for many years and with the Unforgettable Hearts at the glorious age of 90. He was an active volunteer for Meals on Wheels. CHANAS , Paul William May 16, 1969 - July 10, 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Paul Chanas on July 10, 2009. Paul resided in Calgary, Alberta, but is formerly of East Selkirk, Manitoba. He leaves to mourn his passing his father Paul and sisters Shauna of East Selkirk, Donna (Brian) of Winnipeg, and Karen (Andrew) and niece Danika of Gillam, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Paul was born and raised in East Selkirk, Manitoba, where he played sports, dirtbiked, snowmobiled, rough-housed his sisters, and was a proud member of the Troyanda Ukrainian Dance Ensemble. Paul graduated from Red River Community College in 1991 with a diploma in Computer Analyst Programming, and began work in Winnipeg. His career led him to Alberta, where he moved between Edmonton and Calgary, until finally settling in Calgary. Paul was employed for many years with Aura Advanced Technologies. While in Alberta, Paul developed a love for rodeos, and would travel around Alberta to many different events. He also loved photography, and would take his camera gear with him to document all of the lively moments. Honouring Paul's wishes, Cremation has taken place. CONRAN , Annie (Holub) (nee Chaba) October 28, 1916 - July 11, 2009 After a long life well lived, Annie Conran passed away peacefully at the age of 92 years. Born in Forest Lawn, Annie was proud of her Ukrainian heritage, and was passionate about her garden, sewing, cross-stitch and her dislike of Gretzky. We will all miss her famous apple pies. DOWN , Betty Katheryn 1924 - 2009 Betty Down passed away peacefully at Bow View Manor on July 12 at age 84 after a brief illness. She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her sons John (Dianne) of Calgary, Bill (Arlene) of Regina and Ron (Wendy) of Monarch. She also will be missed by grandchildren Tracey (Duane) Copeland, Sandy (Dale) Oviatt, Chris Down and Brad (Kim) Down and thirteen great-grandchildren. Betty was born in Redlands, California, raised in Calgary and became active in oilwives in Virden, Man., and Estevan, Sask., before returning to Calgary in the late 1960s. Although self-taught, she became particularly accomplished at writing, sketching and oil painting. She spent a year researching and writing a book on her family tree and surprisingly discovered she had two half-sisters living in British Columbia and Washington. Family always was at the top of her list. Among her most cherished moments were family gatherings (especially Christmas), diving into finger lickin' Kentucky fried chicken, munching on cheese puffs and pilfering forbidden chocolate. Health problems forced Betty to join Bow View Manor and team up with her mother to become the first mother-daughter residents. The staff at Bow View, which became a big part of her family, added great joy to her life on a daily basis. Betty is predeceased by her mother and father. Sincere thanks to Dr. Todd and the wonderful staff at Bow View Manor for their compassion and comfort; and to the Foothills Hospital emergency staff for allowing her family time to have one more good day with her. REIMER , Isaac (Ike) 1918 - 2009 Ike passed away peacefully on July 11, 2009 aged 91. His last eight months were spent at the Bethany Care Centre, Calgary. He was born near Herbert, Saskatchewan on May 23, 1918 and came to Alberta in 1939. Shortly after his arrival at Rockyford he met Kay, and they were married July 25, 1943. From 1942 to 1946 he served in the Royal Canadian Army. His occupations included farming and barbering and he retired from barbering the end of 1991. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge and the Royal Canadian Legion. Ike is survived by Kathleen, his loving wife of sixty-six years, son Glenn (Sherry), granddaughter Kelli (Craig) Pratt, great-granddaughters Jennifer, Laura, and Julie, brothers Otto and Ben, sisters Annie (Henry) Wall and Eva Lirette, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his daughter, Donna, in 2004, parents Annie and Henry, brothers Ed and Harry, and sister Edna. TULISSI , Ancilla Born in Italy on 23 August 1922 and passed away in Calgary on 12 July 2009. Ancilla, her husband Erminio and their two young sons, John and Renzo, immigrated to Coleman, Alberta, in the early 1950's. Their youngest son, George, was born there a year later. Ancilla was predeceased by Erminio in 1992, and was the last surviving sibling of her family. She is survived by her son John (Mae) of Saudi Arabia, Renzo (Frances) of Calgary, and George (Katherine) of Denver, CO. She is also survived by three granddaughters, Nicole and Adriana of Calgary, Michelle Petrina (Darin) of Oakville, ON, and four grandsons, Michael (Brenda), Lawrence (Cynthia), Steven (Amber), all of the Calgary area, and David (Saudi Arabia), and by three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Katlyn, and Liam. WOODS , Mary Velma May 27, 1910 - July 8, 2009 In loving memory of Mary Velma Woods (nee: Fletcher), aged 99 years, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2009 at the Southwood Care Centre, Calgary, AB. Mary was the last girl born to Mary (French) and Richard Fletcher at Strasbourg, SK. She grew up on the prairies and after a few shaky starts and minor setbacks; in 1948 she began calling Lethbridge, AB her home and would stay in her cozy little house on 7th Street until 1991. She and Robert Woods were married on June 22, 1991 and subsequently moved to the Crowsnest Pass. Bob passed away in 1995 and shortly after Mary moved to Beaverdam Lodge and eventually the Southwood Care Centre in Calgary until her final day. A Service to celebrate her life will be held at FANTIN'S FUNERAL CHAPEL, 13461 - 20 Avenue, Blairmore, AB on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Dan Fletcher officiating. William Elmer Allen Bill, aged 79, from Stratford, P.E.I., passed away peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, July 12, 2009. He was born the fifth child of Leah and Elmer’s loving family in Melanson, Nova Scotia. He leaves behind his eight brothers and sisters; Ed, Thelma, Mary, Josephine, Bob, Peter, Lila and Patricia. He also will be sorely missed by his wife, Joanne, (nee MacIntyre) and their son, Troy; his former wife, Muriel (nee MacQuarrie) and their daughter, Judi (David), and son, Boyd (Catherine); extended family and many friends. Bill was a wonderful father, a farmer, a tradesperson, a part-time fisherman and a lover of wildlife, especially birds and race horses. For much of his life, he was a gifted and generous addictions counsellor. Many people tribute Bill with turning their lives around and he was always available to support their recovery. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff of Unit 8, Queen Elizabeth Hospital. They cared for Bill with great kindness and dignity. Brother-in-law of Elaine MacDonald, Brockville, Ont.; Catherine MacKinnon, Laval, Que.; Isabel McLean (James W.), Montague; James MacKinnon (Claudette) Brockville, Ont.; and Gerald MacDonald, Albion Cross. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sister Margaret MacDonald. Resting at Ferguson’s Montague Funeral Home until Friday at 10:20 a.m., then to St. Mary’s Church, Montague, for funeral mass at 10:30. Interment in the parish cemetery. Visitation: Thursday 6-9 p.m. only. If so desired, memorials to the Kings County Memorial Hospital would be appreciated.
