Suivra à 11 h une cérémonique d'adieu qui sera célébrée en la Chapelle du complexe Odysséa. Les cendres de monsieur Maras reposeront au Columbarium 24-Juin, à Sherbrooke. Outre son épouse, monsieur Maras laisse dans le deuil sa fille, Claudia; son gendre, Yves Bisson; son petit-fils adoré, Olivier; sa soeur, Sylvie; son frère, Jacques. HUMMEL, Marion Louise - Marion Hummel died peacefully on Friday, July 10, 2009 at North Bay General Hospital. She was in her 77th year. Marion (Livermore) was predeceased by her husband Ambrose Alvin Hummel (1921-1996). She was the beloved mother of Tom Hummel (Elizabeth) of Powassan, Kathryn (Jeff Boldt) of Calgary and Cindy (John Fox) of Severn Bridge and grandmother of Amantha Kusch (Corey), Ashley Hummel (Joe Piekarski), Luke Hummel, Landa Fox-Mark (Nathan), Michael Fox and Jessica Fox. Marion was the dear sister of Betty Piper (George) of Powassan, Dorothy Storie (Don Boake) of North Bay, Beverly Young (Kalvin) of Powassan and Gwen Young (Dennis) of Powassan. She was predeceased by her parents Kathryn (Crawford) and Earl Livermore and her brother-in-law Blair Storie. BASSO, Angelo William - Passed away at the Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe on Tuesday, July 7th, 2009 in his 75th year. Angelo gave his family the gift of unconditional love. Beloved and dedicated husband of Shirley Anne (nee Leclair) of Simcoe. Proud and loving father of Lori Barkans (Michael) of Brantford; Lisa VanHerzele (Larry) of Hamilton; and Linda Basso of Hamilton. A doting grandfather, Angelo was much loved and will be forever missed by his grandchildren Meagan (Mike) and Alexander Barkans and Octavia, Dante and Sophia VanHerzele. He will be sadly missed by his sister-in-law Rita Basso, nieces Cathy and Janice, and by nephews Brad, Blain and Dennis. Angelo is also survived by Shirley's brother Bob Leclair (Monica). Predeceased by his mother and father Marie and Luigi, his brothers Gildo and Willie, his sister-in-law Karen, nephew Ricky, and nieces Charlene and Angela. Angelo was a First Class Stationary Engineer retiring from the Nanticoke Generating Station after 36 years of dedicated service with Ontario Hydro. He enjoyed his morning coffee, curling and searching for golf balls in the rough. Angelo volunteered his time in the community and will be remembered as a caring and giving friend to many. The family would like to thank Angelo's physicians and the staff at the Norfolk General Hospital for their comfort and care. BIELICKI, Helen - Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 8th 2009, at the St. Catharines General Hospital at the age of 92. Predeceased by her loving husband of 37 years, Joseph. She is survived by her daughters Diane Bielicki (James Wilhelm) and Yvonne Enns (Fred), grandsons Erik and Roland, who will miss their special Babcha, sisters Annie, Christel and Johanna, brother-in-law Sonny, and her many nephews and nieces. CAMPBELL , Elizabeth (Liz) Ann October 2, 1948 - July 3, 2009 On Friday, July 3, Elizabeth (Liz) Ann Campbell, age 60, passed away peacefully at the Southwood Hospice after a seven month battle with cancer. Liz retired from her position as Material Management Officer for the Government of Canada at fifty-five and greatly enjoyed her leisure time. A Calgary native, she spent her twenties in Vancouver and Vancouver Island enjoying and participating in the artist colony community. Liz travelled extensively in the US and Mexico with her sister Barbara. She explored the Toronto gallery circuit in the early eighties and then returned to Calgary where she obtained government employment. She was happy to be back in Calgary, spending time with her mother and old and new friends. Liz was an avid, eclectic reader, everything from mysteries to philosophy to the New Yorker. She loved nature, animals, camping with her long-time companion Dean, long walks and doting on her love birds. Liz had an intriguing, graceful manner and a discerning sensibility. She was a great cook and enjoyed preparing gourmet dinners for her family and friends. Liz had a green thumb and spent many happy hours on her balcony nurturing a colourful array of plants, herbs and flowers. Liz will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed by her mother Esther; sister Barbara; Dean; and her large extended family and friends. Liz was predeceased by her father James in 1989. Her ashes along with her beloved lovebird, Sweet Pea, will be scattered as well as buried in the family plot at Queen's Park Cemetery. BOWERS , David Alexander February 14, 1959 - July 2, 2009 David Bowers of Edmonton passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at the age of 50 years. David was born in Scarborough, ON and lived in the Toronto area until moving to Alberta in 1972. He first lived in Calgary and later moved to various locations in Northern Alberta, finally settling in Edmonton. David attended E.P. Scarlett High School in Calgary and afterwards completed his Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering. Recently, David went back to school to further his education at the University of Alberta. David was a proud member of the Power Engineers Association of Canada, as well as the Canadian Society of Safety and Engineering. In his personal life, David was a caring, compassionate person who had a quirky, wonderful sense of humour. His true passions were of course his children, as well as animals, cars, and maintaining an attractive lawn. David is survived by his children, Justin and Allyshia and their mother Teresa of Peace River, AB; father William and Mary; sister Penny and her children, Cory and Rudy; stepbrother Shaun and his wife Jocelyn, and their children, Lauren and Chase; as well as by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. GALE DONALDSON Friday, 10 July 2009 - 1:44pm It is with great sadness that the family of Gale Donaldson announces his passing on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Rainycrest Long Term Care in Fort Frances, Ont. Gale was born Aug. 16, 1922 in Nokomis, Sask. to Jasper Marlin Donaldson and Doris May (Mould) Donaldson. The family returned to Ontario when he was about three years old and except for employment reasons and military service, Gale resided on the family farm being the South 1/2, Lot 12, Concession 3 in Burriss Township until moving to Emo, Ont. in June, 2002. He attended Burriss Consolidated School, Fort Frances High School, and Emo Continuation School, which he left before graduation. Early employment was on the home farm and for local employers. In 1939, at age 17, he went west for the harvest and when finished, he then travelled east to pick apples in the Georgian Bay area, returning home in December of that year. In November, 1942, he was enrolled into basic training in Fort William, Ont., served in Canada only, was discharged in April, 1944, and returned home to civil employment. He was able to accept employment the next January as camp clerk in the Mando logging division, where he remained for six or seven years. Later, Gale worked for a number of other firms as well as larger contracting firms Towland Paving and CA Pitts Construction Ltd. Over a number of years, he was employed by different mining exploration companies that optioned properties in many townships of the district. During this time, Gale and friend Bill Beninger formed a line-cutting and claim-staking partnership, working sometimes by the day or on a contract basis which they made pay by taking foolish risks and hardships. In 1970, he was hired by the late Earle Newman as accountant at Mel Newman Ltd. and its associate firm. In 1976, he became vice-president and general manager of the company’s operations in both Atikokan and Fort Frances. From Jan. 1, 1986 until his retirement in August, 1987, Gale also worked for the succeeding Ford dealership and assisted in setting up accounting and finance while there. In his later years, Gale remarked that he never remembered being employed as a result of a written application and in the age of résumés, often professionally prepared, thought he would not be so fortunate. As well as working for others, Gale very much enjoyed the activities of raising cattle and crops, and gardening. He also enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and especially hunting. He was a proud supporter of his children’s various interests, hobbies, and endeavours, especially their musical talents. He also took great pride in his family heritage, and was especially proud that descendants of the original Donaldson homesteaders from 1898 still remain on that farm in Burriss. Gale was always interested in his genealogy, local history, and map reading, and was interested in the surveys and geology of the area. He also was very fond of the Fort Frances Times and was a great fan of the Emo Fair. Gale was predeceased by his brother, Lyle, in February, 1957; his father, Jasper, in January, 1969; and his mother, Doris, in March, 2001. He also was predeceased by an infant granddaughter, Sarah Mosbeck, in 1978; mother-in-law, Ivah Anderson; and brothers-in-law, Glen Manty, Lawrence McLeod, and Alan Anderson. On Dec. 22, 1956, Gale married Elizabeth Anderson of Box Alder, Ont. Together, they raised their eight children on the family farm in Burriss. Anyone who knew Gale will have probably heard the line, “I have seven boys and every one of them has a sister.” He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; one daughter, Emily (Tom Mosbeck); and seven sons, Ross (Denise), Lee (Leanne), Jerry (Nancy), Mark, Guy (Kelly Spicer), Brian, and Rob Roy (Heather Campbell). Grandchildren include Scott Mosbeck (Michelle), Jay Mosbeck (Janene), Eric Mosbeck (Hope Wilson), Nathalie (Matt Calder), Logan, David, Nicholas, Julianna, Teddy, Jason, Justin, Mallory, Emily, Mira, and Rowan Donaldson. There are four great-grandchildren, Cameron, Teagan, Austin, and Jack Mosbeck. Also surviving are two sisters, Crete McLeod and Sheila Manty; sisters-in-law, Marion Poutanen, Inez Anderson, and Janet Anderson; brothers-in-law, Eric Anderson and Ralph Poutanen; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 13, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Rev. Frances Flook officiating. The honorary pallbearers will be Gale’s seven sons and son-in-law. DEMKIW, Lucy Ellen (nee Styles) - In loving memory of Lucy Ellen (nee Styles) Demkiw, 82 years, who passed away Thursday evening, July 9th, 2009 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - St. Joseph Health Centre. Born in Collingwood, she married William in Barrie in 1945. She served for over 20 years as a Foster Mother with the Children's Aid. Lucy was always active politically with elections Municipal, Provincial, and Federal. She was a faithful member of the Liberal Party and the first person given a life-time membership with the Federal Party. A devout Roman Catholic, dedicated member of Holy Trinity Parish and a Past President of the CWL. Lucy served a term as a Trustee with the Separate School Board. She was well known for her volunteer leadership with St. David's School Breakfast Program where she helped until poor health. Lucy was a skilled and competitive bowler in the Sudbury Leagues for many years. She loved playing cards and games. She will be missed by her “Red Lobster“ friends who enjoyed many fun get-togethers. SUTHERLAND, Lindsay Gordon Alan - P.Eng. (February 13, 1938 - July 9, 2009) Passed away peacefully in his 72nd year, L.G. Alan Sutherland, on Tuesday, July 9th, 2009 at home in St. Catharines, Ontario with his wife and elder daughter by his side. He is survived and mourned by his devoted and cherished wife of 49 years, Alyce Elizabeth Sutherland (nee Casselman) and his children, Louise (David) Stanley, Welland; Mary (Robert) Wright, Grand Bend; Hugh (Felicia) Sutherland, Thorold; his grandchildren, Robert and Kathleen Stanley, Welland; Connor and Aidan Sutherland, Thorold; his loving sister Ann Helen Patricia Sutherland, White Rock, BC. Predeceased by his parents, Kathleen Magee (nee Yeates), London, Ontario and James Robert Gordon Sutherland, Limehouse, Ontario. Born in Victoria, BC on February 13, 1938, he grew up in Limehouse and London, Ontario and studied at the University of Western Ontario where he received his B.E.Sc. (Electrical) degree in 1960. After graduating, Alan married and moved his family to Montreal and then Newfoundland where he worked for Monenco and ShawMont. He served as a major in the Canadian Armed Forces Army Reserves and was Deputy Commanding Officer of the 56th Service Battalion, St. John's. In 1978, he relocated his family to St. Catharines, where he kept up his interest in the Militia as the Deputy Commanding Officer of the 23rd Service Battalion, Hamilton. He continued to work as a Consulting Engineer until a stroke in 1994. While the years that followed challenged him, his resolve to live life to the fullest and to love his family never faltered. He was a Past Master Mason with Perfection Lodge 616 and a life member of the Military Engineers' Association of Ontario. Al had a lifelong interest in Amateur Radio that started in high school. He had call signs issued by Industry Canada in Ontario, Quebec and Newfoundland over the years. Although he was not able to get on the air in the past several years the excitement of being able to talk to Amateurs in various parts of the world always remained. Al's last recorded call was VE3EGY. When an Amateur passes away he is known as a “Silent Key” or “SK” and his call sign is appended thus. His life was brought joy with his passions - classical music, reading, camping and snowmobiling in Newfoundland and especially summers at the family cottage at Maple Grove, Grand Bend. Friends and family are invited to call at the family home, 97 Riverview Boulevard, St. Catharines for visitation on Monday, July 13 at 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Masons will hold a service at 6:45 pm. The funeral service, a Celebration of Alan's Life, will be held at Silver Spire United Church, 366 St. Paul Street East, St. Catharines, on Tuesday, July 14th at 11 am. A reception will follow at the family home. Interment in Oakland Cemetery, Brockville on Wednesday, July 15. THEOBALD, Gordon James - in his 87th year, after a courageous struggle with cancer, passed away at Westgate Lodge, Belleville, Ontario on Thursday July 9th, 2009. Born January 4, 1923 in Quebec City. Survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Elizabeth (Redner); sons: Clark Ian Theobald (wife Elizabeth), Robert Gordon Theobald (wife Sandra), David James Theobald (wife Kathleen); grandchildren: Bridget, Barbara, Ian, Nicole, John, James, David, Melinda, Matthew and Amy; great- grandchild Hailey; brothers Harvey and Stuart, and sister Barbara Bertrim. Predeceased by parents Bertie James Theobald and Mable Barbara (Sharpe), brothers Ian and Alan, and sister Lois. He spent his formative years in Parent, P.Q. and Quebec City before his family moved to Belleville in 1935. Gordon excelled at sports while attending BCIVS. He joined the navy from 1942-45 as a ‘coder' on various corvettes employed in anti-submarine patrols in the North Atlantic. Gordon enlisted in the RCAF in 1949, retiring in 1975 with the rank of MWO. After a career spent living out of PMQs, Gordon built his own home in the 1970s near Plevna, Ontario. “Stoney Lonesome” cottage was his pride and joy where he devoted his considerable strength and energy to ongoing hands-on construction projects. For nearly thirty years, the cottage was not only a home for himself and Mary but a gathering place for wondrous year round family events and vacations. His ashes will be scattered on this property at a date to be determined. Gordon's family wishes to thank the staff at Westgate Lodge Nursing Home for their excellent care. GONTARD, Gladys Jane (nee Way) March 10, 1931 - July 3, 2009 It is with great sadness that Jane's family announces her passing. Jane died on July 3, 2009, at the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre after a sudden and brief illness. Jane was born in Savage Cove, NL, and spent her youth living in the Straights. She worked as a teacher and a lab technician, then in her 30s met her husband-to-be, Francois, and began her most important job: mother. After her children became adults, she went to Carleton University to complete her Bachelor of Arts that she began decades before in Montreal at Sir George University. She graduated in 1999. Jane's great loves were her family and her garden: thick batches of peonies lit up her front yard every June. Jane is predeceased by her parents, Stephen and Ann Maria Way (White) and deeply missed by her sisters Mary Hunt (Mount Pearl, NL) and Marion Coombs (Plum Point, NL) and their families. She is greatly missed by husband Francois, daughters Denise Gontard Cartwright (Tim), and Lily (Jon), stepchildren Florence Gazzini-Gontard (Pierre), Xavier (Florence) and Agnes, granddaughter Samantha, step-grandchildren Yannick, Melanie, Victoria, Benjamin and Leah and the most recent addition to the family, great-granddaughter Scarlette Rose.
