TAFFIN, Jacques - 1946-2009 Aux soins palliatifs de l'Hôpital de Verdun, le 26 juin 2009, à l'âge de 63 ans, est décédé Jacques Taffin. Il laisse dans le deuil, à Montréal, ses parents Marie et Paul Taffin, à Victoria C.B., sa soeur Jacqueline (Lessley) et son neveu Alain, en Californie, sa nièce Ginette (Therry) et leurs fils Nathan et Jeremy. En France, ses cousins et cousine, particulièrement, Jean Paul Taffin (Marie Madelaine) et leurs enfants, Sophie et Stéphane ainsi que ses nombreux amis. Suivant ses volontés, il a été incinéré et aucune cérémonie n'aura lieu. La famille tient à remercier chaleureusement le personnel du 4e étage de l'Hôpital Verdun pour leur dévouement et la qualité des soins dont Jacques a bénéficié tout au long de son séjour. TONKOVIC, Josip (Joe) - In loving memory of Josip (Joe) Tonkovic, 70 years, who passed away with his family by his side on Thursday, July 2nd, 2009 at the SRH- Laurentian Site after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Anica “Ane“ (Juretic) Tonkovic of Sudbury. Loving father of Adrian (wife Catherine) of Lively. Cherished grandfather of Aidan. Dear brother of Mladen predeceased (wife Mica), Ivan (wife Milica), Durda (husband Mario), Milan predeceased (wife Andela) all of Croatia, Mate (wife Erna) of Germany, Zdravko (wife Tanja) of Sudbury and brother in law of Ivan predeceased (wife Lucy) of Port Elgin, Frane (wife Mica) both predeceased and Mica predeceased (husband Stevo) of Croatia. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews in Croatia, Canada, and Germany. Born on December 6th, 1938 in Bribir, Croatia he was the son of the late Lovro and Margareta (Stanic) Tonkovic. Josip, retired as a Foreman and Plate Worker with Mansour Mining in 2002 after a 32 year career. He was the President of the CFU Lodge 793 (Croatian Fraternal Union). He enjoyed doing many activities such as fishing and spending time in the outdoors. Josip will be remembered as a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather. What brought the greatest joy was the times he was able to spend with Aidan. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. WILHELM, Jean Kathleen July 31, 1928 - July 3, 2009 Passing away close to her 81st birthday at the Brantford General Hospital, Jean is survived by her loving husband, Wilfred. Devoted mother to Paul (Louise) and Brenda (Jeffrey), Jean will be greatly missed by her sister, Doris of London, and by her grandchildren Ryan, Dustin, Kelsey, Jeremy, Ian and great granddaughter Alexis, as well as brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours. Born to Eva & Hector (Percy) Knight in St Thomas, Jean's 55 years of marriage were spent raising her children, volunteering for her community, working at The Gift Shoppe and contributing to the global economy through her love of shopping and travelling. Jean touched the lives of so many people - no one ever went hungry with her memorable cooking and she was always sending notes, cards and special gifts to those she knew and loved. Jean will be resting at the Thompson-Mott Funeral Home at 62 Main Street North in Waterford. We invite friends for visitation on Monday, July 6th from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. CHRISTENSEN , Margaret Elizabeth Mary (nee Waite) November 16, 1909 - June 30, 2009 Margaret Elizabeth Mary left to be with her Lord on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at the age of 99 years. May was born and spent her youth in Saskatchewan on a farm. Later, she continued her education in Red Deer, AB and Pasadena, CA. Upon graduation, she pastored churches in Alberta until her marriage to Charsten in 1939. Together they spent many years pastoring and teaching in Alberta, New Brunswick and Saskatchewan. In 1959, they moved to Calgary where she remained faithful in work for her Lord. For hobbies, she grew prize-winning roses and enjoyed China painting as well as several other crafts. In her later years, she enjoyed visiting elderly ladies hoping to relieve some of their loneliness. She will be missed by many. May leaves to mourn her passing three sons, Orval, Byron and Kelvin; one daughter Beth; seven grandchildren, Cheryl, Jennifer, Jodi, Kevin, Dara, Stephanie and Cosmo; two sisters, Gladys and Ethel; and a number of nephews, nieces and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Charsten and her parents, Robert and Anniebell Waite. DORSEY , Leokadia (Leah) (nee Hauck) December 9, 1926 - June 30, 2009 Leah, a gentle, kind and gracious soul, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 30, 2009. FRANDSEN , Holger May 12, 1904 - July 2, 2009 Holger Frandsen passed away at the Claresholm Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre on Thursday, July 2, 2009. Holger was the oldest Royal Danish Guard in the world and a charter member of the Royal Danish Guard Association in Western Canada. He was active in the "Guards" and enjoyed comradeship of his fellow former guards. One of his proudest moments was the Captain of the Guards saluting Holger with his sword while passing in parade on the streets in Copenhagen while Holger was visiting "the old country". Holger was born in Denmark, immigrating to Canada in 1927, and Claresholm in 1929, working as a hired man on area farms where he met and married the love of his life, Anne. They lived in Coleman during WWII and then bought a farm in Claresholm four miles south of the RCAF station. He then rented the farm to family and worked for the Defense Research Board in Suffield near Medicine Hat, until he and Anne retired to Claresholm in 1969. Holger ran the drop-in centre bingo for several years and also combined his love of visiting people with his Fuller Brush business. We remember him shoveling snow for neighbors in the winter and organizing horseshoe games in the summer. He was a great card player, taking on and beating his grandsons in Christmas cribbage matches right up until two years ago. Holger is survived by his eldest son Neil, in Lethbridge, his son Barry (Rita) in Calgary and their children Nicole and Kevin (Kathleen) in Calgary and Jason (Melissa) in Chicago. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Gladys Nelson and Betty Erdman in Claresholm and by nieces and nephews in Alberta, Quebec, the USA, Greenland and Denmark. He was predeceased by his wife Anne and daughter Peggy as well as by his large family of ten brothers and sisters in Denmark. Funeral Services will be held at the Claresholm United Church on Monday, July 6, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a reception in the Church Hall. There will be a private family Burial later. LANE , Sonia Olga October 5, 1943 - June 28, 2009 Sonia Olga Lane passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 28, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 65 years. Sonia had an infectious personality. She will be remembered for her strength and generosity of spirit. Her kindness and sense of humour made her a true and loyal friend. Pucic, Philip 1922 2009 - Mario Leone and Jerry Popovic announce the death of Philip Pucic on Monday June 29, 2009 at the Timmins and District Hospital at the age of 86 years. Born in Gruz, Dubrovnik, Croatia, Philip immigrated to Canada in 1951. He worked at several mines and retired from the Public School Board as a caretaker.
