BEACHEY, Lillian Barbara - Lillian Beachey (nee Hinchberger) died peacefully, following a brief illness, at North Bay General Hospital, on Friday, June 26, 2009. She was in her 87th year. Lillian was predeceased by her husband Cyril Stephen Beachey (1914-1997). She was the beloved mother of Neville (Kim), Tim and Betty Grabowski (Dan), all of Trout Creek, Ken (Irene) of Comox, British Columbia, Ann Schlosser of Powassan and was predeceased by her sons Maurice and Barry. Grandma will be lovingly remembered by many grandchildren, great- grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild. Lillian was predeceased by her parents David and Caroline Hinchberger, her sisters Ethel Hinchberger, Marguerite Oldroyd, Bertha Eckensviller and Florence Chapman and by her brothers Jack, Fred and Romy Hinchberger. At the request of Lillian and her family, there will be no visitation or service. Private burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Trout Creek. The Beachey family wish to express many thanks to Dr. Prins, the nurses of Scollard Site 3rd & 4th Floors, the staff of the Emergency Room, Lady Isabelle Nursing Home and Dr. Demaries. Dearly beloved wife of the late Philip J. Gignac. GILLESPIE, Eugene Edward (Gene) - Was born on November 3, 1930 in Moncton, NB, son of the late Ernest Gillespie and Valentine McLaughlan, and passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, in Victoria on June 20, 2009 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased by sisters June and Patricia and brothers John and Ken. Survived and will be sadly missed by wife Helen, son Michael (Susanne), daughters Karen and Colleen (Peter), grandchildren Ryan, Adam and Rory, and brother Neil. Gene had a varied career as a civil engineer in various locations across Canada, including many happy years in Cornwall with Parks Canada. After an early retirement, he worked for several years in real estate in Ontario, before retiring to Victoria in 1998 to enjoy good weather and year-round golfing. He will be missed by friends in Victoria and eastern Canada, the entire “Anderson clan“ and his golfing buddies at the Metchosin Golf Course. Memorial service to be held Tuesday, June 30, 2:00pm at First Memorial, 1155 Fort Street, Victoria. WENSVEEN, Rosalyn Ruth - Passed away peacefully held in the loving arms of her loving family at the Stedman Community Hospice on Thursday, June 25, 2009. Lynn was in her 59th year when taken from us after a short, courageous battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife and best friend of Robert Wensveen for 34 years; cherished and loving daughter of Adam and Polly Appel of Port Franks. Precious mother of and dearly missed by Sean Davis and wife Jackie, Brantford, Melanie Murray and husband Bryan, Brantford, Anneke Jenna Wensveen, Brantford and Kate-lyn Ann Wensveen, Brantford. LEE, Beatrice (Jean) nee Lang - We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother Jean Lee on June 25, 2009 in Brantford. Sadly missed by daughter Donna (John) Bouskill, grandchildren Laurie (Mike) Joyce, John (Doreen) Bouskill, Kevin (Elena) Lee, Gregg (Candace) Bouskill, Wayne (Jamie) Lee, Stephen (Debbie) Bouskill and Ian (Maureen) Lee, and 14 great- grandchildren and 2 great-great- grandchildren, and her sister-in-law Jean Lang of Sudbury, and many nieces, nephews. Predeceased by her beloved husband Howard Kenneth (Ken) Lee, her son William Lee and his wife Kathleen, her parents Albert and May Lang, her brothers Raymond Lang, William (Marg) Lang, George (Pat) Lang, Hedley Lang and Bud (Rita) Lang and her sister Kay Lang. FILLINGHAM, Marie (Procter) - November 2, 1921 - June 24, 2009. Marie passed away peacefully at the St. Catharines General Hospital. Beloved wife of the late Arthur (1995) and her first husband Bert (1972). Loving mother of Vicki Cawthorne (Derek) of Yorkshire, England and Lynda (Richard) Nicholson of Yorkshire England. Grandmother of Daniel and Nicholas also of Yorkshire, England. Step-mother of Shelagh Piva (Lorne), Harold Fillingham (Janie) and Margaret Krsul (George). Marie is also survived by step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of the Dialysis Unit of the Niagara Health System, Ontario Street facility and Dr. E. Minkarious for 8 plus years of excellent care. Thanks to Lorraine, Bill, Charles and other volunteer Red Cross drivers for their help and support. HINES, Allan Lloyd - Peacefully on Friday, June 26th, 2009 our wonderful Dad passed away in his 79th year. Loving father of sons Art, Doug (Monique), Al Jr. (Donna), Greg (Martha) and his daughter, Lorianne (Dave) Reid. Cherished grandfather of Hunter, Katie, Ryan, Trevor, Meghan, Breanne, Courtney and Michael. He is also survived by his wife Lois Hines. He worked for Silverwood Dairies as well as for General Motors. He retired from General Motors in 1990 with all his friends who knew him as “Big Al“. Ses enfants: Réjean, Joseph et Pierrette en bas âge; une petite-fille, Annie Chiasson de Bathurst (2002); la fille de son épouse, Ginette (1962), six frères: Laurent, Ovide, Bruno, Valérie, Cyrille et Paul, ainsi que deux soeurs: Léontine et Monique, l'ont précédé dans la tombe. M. Haché était un ancien combattant de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Il a été superviseur pour Irving Oil pendant 33 ans, membre fondateur et président pendant 29 ans de la Légion canadienne de Lamèque, membre fondateur du Club Richelieu de Lamèque et membre fondateur de l'Aréna des Îles. Il a oeuvré sur plusieurs comités dont le conseil scolaire, le conseil d'administration de Hôpital de Lamèque, le service de repas chauds et il a été échevin à la Ville de Lamèque. Il a reçu la médaille du centenaire pour les services rendus à la patrie et ses nombreuses années à la présidence de la Légion canadienne de Lamèque. La dépouille sera exposée à compter de 14h, le dimanche 28 juin, à la Maison Bulger de Lamèque. Les funérailles auront lieu en l'église Notre-Dame-des-Flots de Lamèque, le lundi 29 juin, à 16h. L'inhumation se fera au cimetière paroissial. Heures de visites: le dimanche 30 juin, de 14h à 16h et le lundi 29 juin, de 14h jusqu'au départ pour les funérailles. ANDERSON , Glenda Joan December 27, 1954 - June 25, 2009 Glenda Joan Anderson passed away unexpectedly, Thursday, June 25, 2009 at the age of 54 years. Glenda was a beautiful wife, mother, nana, and friend, whose generous nature was felt by everyone who met her. Her quick tears, hugs, and selfless love drew people to her and left fingerprints on the hearts of so many on this earth. Full of exuberant spunk and witty personality her energy added life and laughter wherever she went, and people could always count on an open door and a fresh pot of coffee. Glenda loved to travel alongside her true love and companion Jerry, to Hawaii and anywhere else offering sun and a beach. "Thongs" were on her toes year round. She made a haven out of her Fairmont cabin, and loved nothing more than spending time there with her loved ones and a donair. She was also known for her love of canasta, crafting blankets, "Disney" whistle, unforgettable sneeze, and dictionary of self-invented words (i.e. igly-gobber). Glenda's living legacy includes her beloved best friend and soulmate Jerry, her children Brad, Keri, Jennelle, and Kevin, and her grandchildren Emma, Delaney, and Rhys. The pride she had in her family overflowed from her heart. She will also be dearly missed by her sister Judy (Dan) Richer, her mother Verna Brown, and an enormous number of extended and church family members. Following his military service, George owned and operated a trucking firm, Anderson's Express. A man of great faith, George was always dedicated and involved with his church. Later, an invitation to build homes for the poor in Haiti changed the direction of George's life. His passion for helping people and making a difference led him to travel across Canada communicating the message, A hand up, not a hand out and subsequently founding Habitat for Humanity Canada, for which he received the Governor General's Meritorious Service Medal. George was a gifted motivator and raised funds for many organizations over the years. An eternal optimist, encourager and storyteller, he will be deeply missed by extended family and many cherished friends. PETERSON, Thelma 2009-06-27 Mrs. Thelma Peterson (nee Smith), passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital on June 24, 2009 after a short illness. Thelma was lovingly supported by her daughters, their family and her friends during her illness. Thelma was a strong independent adventurous spirit who loved her family and friends and thought life was a gift. A lifelong resident of Thunder Bay, Thelma was born on June 26, 1916 in Fort William, was educated there and attended Fort William Collegiate. As a young woman Thelma was employed as a telephone operator with the Bell Telephone Co. and then in retail and the office at Strachan’s Jewellery and finally as a switchboard operator at Chapple’s Department Store. Thelma was an active and energetic woman who enjoyed traveling abroad with her husband, William and visiting her daughters and their families. Thelma and Bill loved to dance and looked for tea dances wherever they traveled. She liked to camp, swim, ice skate and bowl where she enjoyed the exercise and many lasting friendships. Always eager to learn, she attended classes over the years in Conversational French and Tai Chi. Thelma was active in the community and was an enthusiastic volunteer at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation for over 10 years. As a young woman she was a member of St. Luke‘s Anglican Church and was married there. Shortly thereafter she joined the congregation at St. Paul‘s Anglican Church and became a member of their Ladies Auxiliary where she was active in all of their activities and also sang in the St. Paul‘s Church Memorial Choir. Her faith was unwavering and St. Paul‘s was an important aspect of her life. Thelma and close friend Doris Peterson (nee Jorgenson) co-founded ’The Sewing Club‘ and this large group of lifelong friends has lasted for over 70 years and is still going strong. Thelma is survived by her 2 daughters, Brenda Ekroos (Allan) of Oakville and grandchildren Christopher and Meagan and Rhonda Auld (Richard) of Sudbury and grandchildren Ryan and Kelly, sister-in-law Gladys Smith (nee Ball)(William) and nephew Joe Tocheri (Lily). She was predeceased by her husband William Peterson, her parents William and Evelyn Smith (nee Porter), her sister Phyllis Morrell (Hugh) and brother William Smith. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday July 2, 2009 at St. Paul‘s Anglican Church with the Reverend Deborah Kraft officiating. A private family interment will be held in Mountain View Cemetery. At the request of the family donations may be made to the Salvation Army or the Canadian Cancer Society/Thunder Bay . BECK, Beatrice Irene (nee Shaw) - A resident of Residence on the Thames and formerly of Blenheim and Harwich Township, Irene Beck passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance-Sydenham Campus on Friday June 26, 2009 at the age of 85. Born in Turnerville, Ontario, daughter of the late Wilfred and Gladys (Craig) Shaw. Loving wife of the late John H. Beck (2003) for nearly 58 years. Lovingly remembered by her son Larry and Tracy Beck of Harwich Twp. Also survived by her daughter Donna Beck. Extremely proud grandmother to Kristy Beck and Jolene Beck. Irene is also survived by her sisters Hester Glover of Wallaceburg, Dora North of Chatham, Betty Ellis of Dresden. Predeceased by her sister Marie Shaw and her brother Lee Shaw. She was a special aunt to many nieces and nephews, creating many memories for them when they would come and visit the family homestead. Irene was a Sales Clerk at Syd Kemsley Flowers before her retirement. Irene was a member of St. Paul's United Church and its U.C.W., and had been active with the Blenheim Curling Club and the Blenheim Golf Course. Irene will also be missed by her friends with the Country View Wednesday Afternoon Card Club. Family was most important to Irene; she especially loved attending her granddaughter's soccer and hockey games as well as saddle club shows when the girls were showing their ponies. She was fun loving and enjoyed playing cards, cooking for and entertaining family and friends, and organizing family skits. Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home 459 St. Clair St. Chatham on Monday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral service to be held in the Funeral Home on Tuesday June 30, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. ROBB, Myrna Lorraine April 1, 1939- June 16, 2009 Myrna died at home in Ventura, California with her husband and children at her side on June 16, 2009 after a long battle with cancer. Beloved wife of Jerry Knott, beloved and loving mother of Rose Latourell (Robert Garvin), Paul Latourell, and Karen Merriman, step-mother, step- grandmother, and great-step-grand mother to Jerry's family. Beloved daughter of the late George and Gwendolyn Robb. Beloved and loving sister of Blaine (Buddy) Robb (1945), Dale Robb (Sandra), and Ginny Ferguson (Gary) of Kemptville, ON. Loving aunt to all the Robb, Ferguson, and Latourell families. Myrna's zest and love for life, travel, fun, friends, and family were well known. Myrna will be greatly missed. A memorial celebration of her life was held at her home on June 21, 2009. As her request, Myrna was cremated and her ashes will be scattered at a later date.
