LALIBERTÉ (Mme Marie-Marthe) Soeur Marie-Marthe Laliberté (Soeur Raoul-Marie) Est décédée à la Maison Mère des Soeurs Antoniennes de Marie, le jeudi 11 juin 2009, à l'âge de 83 ans et 7 mois, Soeur Marie-Marthe Laliberté, originaire de Normandin, comté Roberval. Elle avait prononcé les voeux de religion depuis 60 ans. La dépouille mortelle a été exposée, le jour des funérailles à la Maison Mère des Soeurs Antoniennes de Marie 927, rue Jacques-Cartier Est, Chicoutimi Les funérailles ont eu lieu le samedi 13 juin 2009 à 10 h à la chapelle de la Maison Mère et l'inhumation a suivi au cimetière de la Congrégation. Soeur Marie-Marthe était la fille de feu Wilfrid Laliberté et de feu dame Rose-Anna Dallaire. Elle était la soeur de feu Roland (feu Cécile Larouche), feu Rodolphe (feu Cécile Frigon), feu Claire (feu Gustave Duperré), feu Fernand, feu Anne-Marie, feu Cécile-Jeannette, feu Cécile (feu Adrien Frigon), Roch (feu Gemma Boulanger), feu Georges (jumeau), feu Georgette (jumelle), feu Raoul (feu May-Anne Landry). En plus de sa famille religieuse, les laïcs associés, elle laisse dans le deuil de nombreux neveux et nièces, parents et ami(e)s. William Henry Baldwin passed away peacefully on the morning of June 7th, 2009 at the Miramichi Regional Hospital with family by his side. He was 72 years of age. Bill proudly served in the Canadian Armed Forces and retired from the Guard Staff at the Bank of Canada. He was an active member of the Canadian Peacekeeping Veterans Association (Miramichi Chapter). He enjoyed over 50 years on this earth with his soul mate and wife Ute and raised four children. Someone recently told me that he always knew Bill to be smiling and laughing. I can think of no better way to portray him. He had a genuine love of life, was a dedicated and honest husband, a wonderful father and most importantly a great friend to us all. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten. Bill is survived by wife Ute; daughter Tanika (Doug); sons, William (Lois), Blythe (Allison), and Terence; grandchildren, Diana, Tyler, Lauren and Logan; sister-in-law Heidi and family; brothers, Fred, George, Harry, Stan and their respective families; sisters, Evelyn, Sybil, Joan and their respective families. Mr. James "Bunka" Paton, husband of Nora (Mantle) Paton of Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home, formerly of Bartholomew, NB occurred at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the age of 82. Born in Ottawa, ON, he was the son of the late Joseph and Florencia (Baressi) Patafie. Jim also lived in Fredericton, NB and owned and operated the Valley Drive-In. Besides his wife: Nora, Jim is survived by: two daughters: Bonnie Burns (Wayne) of Bartholomew, NB; Florence Paton of Maine; one son: James (Kelley) of Florida; two sisters: Mary Quinn and Lena Lacelle both of Ottawa, ON; four brothers: Dominic (Dorothy), Michael (Jocelyn); Enrico (Rosetta); Julio (Michelle) all of Ottawa, ON; grandchildren: Dawn (Julien), Niki, Megan, D.J. Born in Red Bank, NB, Myrtle was the daughter of the late Cuthbert Collingwood and Agnes (Mullin) Parks. Myrtle was a homemaker, Honorary President Miramichi Presbyterial Atlantic Mission Society, Life member of St. James Presbyterian Church, Newcastle, NB and a member of the Prince Charles Chapter # 27 of the Eastern Star. Myrtle is survived by two daughters: Elizabeth(Beth) Jacquard (Roy) of Fredericton, NB and Marian Huyber (Ron) of Calgary, AB; one son: John (Millie) of Stanhope, PE; one sister; Edna Allison of Whitney, NB; two grandchildren: Peter Weldon of London, England and Jill Nicholas (Garth) of Ottawa, On; one great grandson: Gregory Nicholas and several nieces and nephews. O’Brien, May 2009-06-12 Mrs. (Hilda) May O’Brien, in her 92nd year, died peacefully in Southampton Hospital on Tuesday, June 09, 2009. She was a long time member of St Andrew‘s Presbyterian Church and the ladies Iona Guild. “Brown Owl” was involved in every aspect of the Girl Guide movement thoughout Northwestern Ontario for most of her adult life. May attended Drew and Franklin Elementary Schools, Fort William Collegiate and then, Normal School in North Bay. She started her teaching career in Hymers, teaching Grades 1-10 in a one room school house which included custodial duties such as firing up the wood stove in the mornings. After raising her family while managing the office of the family trucking firm, S. J. O’Brien & Sons, May had a second very rewarding career teaching at Twinhaven School for handicapped children, which was initially operated by the Kiwanis Club before it was taken over by the Board of Education. May and Ed enjoyed many summers at camp at Wild Goose with family and friends. She enjoyed the last years of her retirement at Hampton Court Lodge in Southampton, Ontario. May is survived by her daughter Margaret Olinik (Dennis) in Thunder Bay, son Allan (Karen) in Southampton, daughter Kathleen Reid (Ken) in Cobourg, grandchildren Lynn Almonte (Jorge), Jamie Jarvis (Megan), Corinne Sales (Trevor), Kelly O‘Brien (Derek Acton), Charlaine Reid (Mark Renié), Jeff Reid (Emilie Joncas) and Graeme Reid, great grandchidren Veronica O‘Brien, Rebekah and James Sales, Hallie, Robin and Samantha Acton, Grace, Emily and Olivia Jarvis and Kai Almonte, sister Hester Allan in Kingston and brother Max Allan in Calgary. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by her husband Edmund O‘Brien in 1998, parents Hugh and Matilda Allan, brothers Warren, Archibald, Roderick and Ralph and sisters Florence Godfrey, Isobell Pomranki, Margaret Malmborg, Alice Grant, Wilma Johnson and Ruth Aho. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 15, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Andrew‘s Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bert Vancook officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Blake Funeral Chapel. BABCOCK, John “Jack” Alexander Wesley - Passed away peacefully at Stedman Community Hospice in the early hours of Friday, June 5th, 2009 with family keeping vigil, at the age of 78. John was predeceased by “the most beautiful woman in the world,“ his wife, Esther (nee MacLean), parents (Wesley and Jean), sisters, June (Rusty McDonald) and Isobel. He is survived by his children Janet (Rick), Sandy (Sue), Tim (Kathy), Jim (Patti, the “Angel”), Dan and Peter. Two of his sons, John and David, predeceased him. John was also the grandfather of Jennifer, Kate, Ryan, Alisha (Donnie), Kristi, Brittany, Ashley, and Carole-Anne and the great- grandfather of Mia. He will be missed by his large extended family (Naomi, Bill, Erma, Ian) scattered across this fabulous country. The family sends special thanks to family physician Doctor Stahlbrand; Doctor Gregoire (BGH), the nursing staff at Med B6 (BGH), especially Barb and Mary, and the exceptional staff at Stedman Community Hospice that provided such dignified care to Dad in his last 10 days. John spent several years donating his time as a coach of hockey teams at Wesley United Church. A husband, father and hardworking man (Massey Ferguson, retired) - all that and a dedicated Leafs fan. ATKINSON, Vera - After 97 years, Vera Mae Atkinson passed away suddenly and peacefully on June 9, 2009. She faced her aging with strength, independence, faith, courage and a good sense of humour. She was a devoted mother and mother-in-law to Lynne and Al Fedor, a proud grandmother of Jeff Fedor (Carmen) and a loving great- grandmother of Peri and Quinn (Waterloo). She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Joan Marie (1941), her husband, Roy Howard (1996) and her triplet great- grandchildren Jack, Adam and Finn (1999). She was a loving sister to her deceased brothers, William and James (Iris) Carrothers and is survived by her sister-in- law Eleanor Carrothers of London. She will be mourned by her devoted niece, Mary Lou Ware and remembered by her nephews Don Carrothers, Rev. David Carrothers, Wayne Carrothers and Paul Carrothers (deceased) and her niece Pat Johnstone and their families. The family would like to thank the staff and residents at the Loyalist, CCAC and Pro Wellness for making Mom's last home a pleasant and caring place. We will always be grateful for the special friendship extended by Stephen and Kelly. Our thanks also to the nurses at the St. Catharines General Hospital 3rd floor for their compassion at a difficult time. COUNSELL, Charles “Chuck” - The family of Charles Counsell, sadly announces his passing on Wednesday June 10, 2009, in his 83rd year. Predeceased by his beloved wife Laura VanBradt (1985). Loved by his daughters, Cathy Eyers (Brian), Donna Wood (Dave), Terri McDonald (Derek) and Lisa Wilcox (Cliff). DERRY (nee FILION), Mary R. (Peggy) February 10, 1917 - June 5, 2009 - Passed away peacefully at Sunrise Mississauga on June 5, in her 93rd year. Peggy was the beloved wife of the late Gord Derry. Dear mother of Judith Walsh (Michael) of Toronto, Peter (Elaine) of Toronto, Ted (Mary-Eileen McClear) of Baden, David (Stephanie Brooks) of St. Catharines, and Kevin of Barrie. Survived by her sister Joan McDonald of Trenton, Ontario, and predeceased by her sister Eileen Caskey, and brothers Frank, George, and Hank Filion. Peggy was devoted to her family and took great delight in the company and accomplishments of her grandchildren, Matthew, Amy, Adam, Martha, Brendan, Julia, Meghan, Katelyn, and her five great- grandchildren. Her sixty-two years of marriage to Gord was a source of pride. She treasured the many friends they made during the years they lived in Trenton, Calgary, Mississauga, Toronto and St. Catharines. Peggy was known for her love of music, her quick mind, her spotless house and her unforgettable apple pie. Her lively nature, generosity and unfailing sense of humour will be sadly missed. RICHMOND, Ken - the family of Ken Richmond is profoundly saddened to announce his death on June 10th, 2009 at the Brantford General Hospital. Ken was the dearest loved husband of Liz Sheppard, loving father to Michael of Kitchener, Susan and Jeff of Orfield, PA, adored stepfather of Leigh-Anne and Doug of Castle Rock, CO, and proud dog walker of Oscar. He leaves his siblings, Howard and Mary of Simcoe, Elaine and Ron of Waterloo, and Doug and Lynda of Burlington. Ken was the proud grandpa of Lindsey and Dave, Rebecca and Derek, Dan, Sarah, Isobella and Olivia, and great-grandson, Carter. He was predeceased by two infant sons, Robert and Paul. Ken was the owner of Richmond Insulation for many years, and was a proud member of the St. George Lions for 40 years. He spent his youth in Simcoe and enjoyed some successful hockey years. He later moved to Cayuga where he worked with Ontario Hydro for several years, and was eventually transferred to St. George. He later moved to Brantford before settling in Paris. Ken was loved and respected by all who knew him, and he will be sadly missed. Friends will be welcomed at Meadowood Pentecostal Church, 163 Brant Road in St. George (west side of Hwy. 24 North, directly across from Witteveen Meats) on Friday June 19th from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. A Lions Memorial Service will be conducted on Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. Memorial Service will be at Meadowood on Saturday June 20th at 11 a.m. In accordance with Ken's wishes, cremation has already taken place. GUNTER , Allan Nelson Allan Nelson Gunter passed away peacefully on June 4, 2009 in Medicine Hat at the age of 93. He was predeceased by his wife of nearly sixty-seven years, Nora (Mitchell) in 2007, and by his parents Clarence and Edith Gunter. He is survived by his sister Hazel Bancroft, his daughters: Alexandra (Tom) McMeekin, Elizabeth Gunter, and Joan (Rod) McMillan, his grandchildren: Hilary McMeekin, Gregory McMeekin, James (Melissa) McMillan, and Alexandra (Kory) Hill; and his great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Ashton, Hunter and Hadyn. Allan was born and raised and educated in Edmonton, AB, graduating from University of Alberta with degrees in Civil and honors Chemical Engineering in 1937. He enjoyed a long and successful professional career, which he commenced working for the PFRA in southern Alberta and Saskatchewan. He met Nora in Medicine Hat and they were married in Toronto in 1940, as Allan worked with CIL munitions during the war years in Nobel, Ontario. Allan and Nora returned to Medicine Hat with their first daughter, and Allan farmed at Burnside Farm and set up and operated a plumbing, heating and construction business which he ran for ten years. From 1959 to 1965 he was City Engineer in Medicine Hat. He then worked for the Federal Government in Ottawa in fleet management, and finished his working career in Calgary as a consulting engineer with Underwood & McClelland (UMA). During his retirement years, Nora and Allan lived in Victoria and Banff before eventually returning to live in Medicine Hat. Allan was devoted to his wife and family, and respected by his colleagues and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. The Graveside Service will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Medicine Hat on Monday, June 15, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Nancy Cocks officiating. There will be a celebration of life following at the Cypress Centre, Fireside Room. Margaret M. Mooney at Peakes , Prince Edward Island , Canada Age 87, died on Saturday, May 16, 2009, in Raritan Township, New Jersey. She worked as a nurse for 40 years. During the Second World War she cared for wounded veterans. She will be fondly remembered as a wonderful and caring aunt. Her funeral took place in Caldwell, New Jersey. A memorial mass will be celebrated at a later date in Saint Cuthbert's Church.

Betty Jane (Monteith) Smart passed away at the Upper River Valley Hospital on May 16, 2009. She was born August 22, 1935 in Lower Brighton, the daughter of the late Robert Monteith and Elva (Parker) Monteith. She is survived by her husband Raymond Smart; three daughters, Ellen (Bob) Kee, Rosalie (John) Connell, and Jean (Ronnie) Simonds; three sons, Jim (Melinda) Smart, John (Pam) Smart, and Blair (Lori) Smart; 14 grandchildren, one great grandchild; two sisters, Muriel DeLong of PEI and Elaine Murray of Mapledale; and one brother, Lewis Monteith of Southampton. She was predeceased by one brother, Earl Monteith, in 2008. Funeral service was held from the Carleton Funeral Home on May 19th with Rev. Paul Wellwood officiating. Pallbearers were grandsons Sean Kee, Billy Connell, Bradley Smart, Andrew Smart, Tyler Smart and Adam Simonds. Burial took place at the Kirk Cemetery, Northampton. BERRETH , Margaret Rose (Adshead) March 7, 1927 - June 11, 2009 Margaret Rose Berreth, beloved wife of Allan of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at the age of 82 years. Born in Didsbury, AB and graduated from Didsbury High School, Margaret moved to Toronto to study singing for a year before returning to Calgary where she joined a Quartet and sang throughout Southern Alberta. On December 31, 1947, she married Allan Berreth and they resided in Beiseker before semi-retiring to Calgary in 2004. Margaret was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed many winters sharing Star Aloha with her "Hawaiian Family". She was Worthy Grand Matron of the province of Alberta in 1982 - 1983. In 1988 - 1991 she was appointed General Grand Chapter Committee Member (ESTARL) of the General Grand Chapter and was honoured to be appointed Worthy Grand Organist of the General Grand Chapter from 1997 to 2000. While enjoying these appointments Margaret and her husband Al travelled extensively around the world spreading Star Love. Margaret's dedication earned her the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal, commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of Elizabeth's reign as Queen of Canada. She also enjoyed her membership in the Daughters of the Nile. Besides her loving husband Allan, Margaret is survived by daughters, Adele and her husband Gene Belyk of Shell Lake, SK, and Linda Berreth of Calgary; two grandsons, Cory Belyk of Saskatoon, SK and Trevor and Wendy Belyk of Osler, SK; two great-granddaughters Emma and Gracie Belyk; brother-in-law Mel Pearson and his wife Julie of White Rock, BC; two nieces and their husbands, Debbie and Tom Oke of Calgary and Denise and Doug Cottrell of Airdrie.
