Mary Patricia LeClair Peacefully at Whisperwood Villa, on June 5, 2009, of Mary Patricia (Pat) LeClair (nee Morris), of Charlottetown, aged 73 years. Fondly remembered by her children, Stephen, Michele, Christopher (Christine) and Andy and dearest friend, Marjorie Smith. Special Grammie to Matteo, Luca, Elena and Benjamin. Dear sister of Brian Morris (Virginia), Kevin Morris (Ruth) and sister-in-law of Marie Morris. Also remembered by her niece, Bethany and nephews, Patrick, Paul and Greg Morris. Predeceased by her parents, Patrick and Alice (Pineau) Morris. Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home for visitation on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at The Church of the Most Holy Redeemer at 10 a.m. Interment in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Charlottetown. William C. (Bill) Woodside, Baltic Lot 18 at Baltic Lot 18 , Prince Edward Island , Canada Peacefully at home on Friday, June 5, 2009, of William C. (Bill) Woodside of Baltic Lot 18, age 82 years. Born in Baltic Lot 18, son of Charles and Mary Jane (Harding) Woodside. Husband of the late Shirley (Tuplin) Woodside. Father of Greg (Bonnie) Woodside, Norboro; Mary (Donnie) Knowles, Freeport, Bahamas; and Todd (Sheela) Woodside, Norboro. Grandfather of Candace, David, Benjamin, Zachary, Spencer, Becky and Emily. Brother-in-law of George (Freda) Wall, Kensington. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sisters, Muriel Wall, Maybelle (late Roy) Easter, Carrie (late Frank) Craig; and brother, James Woodside. Resting at the Davison Funeral Home, Kensington. WATSON, Margaret Elizabeth (nee Hall) - 1924-2009 - It is with great sadness that following an extended period of failing health Margaret Elizabeth Watson (nee Hall) passed away in the evening of Monday June 1st 2009 at Miramichi Lodge in Pembroke, Ontario at the age of 84 years. Margaret, Marg as she was known to everyone, was born in Calgary, Alberta on 19th of July 1924. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Vern who passed away in 1999. Marg spent much of her adult life bringing up her 4 sons in Deep River, Ontario before moving to Pembroke with Vern after he retired from Atomic Energy of Canada. She was very saddened by the loss of her youngest son, Ken and his wife, Mary, who were both killed in a tragic, single engine plane accident just 12 months ago on the 24th of May 2008. Margaret is survived by Tom, Wanda and grandchildren Matthew, Christine and Benjamin in New Zealand; Rick, Fran and granddaughters Julie and Carrie in Ottawa, Ontario and Whistler, BC; and Don, Katharine and grand daughter, Heather in Nanaimo, BC. She also leaves 4 lovely great-grandchildren. In accordance with her wishes, Margaret will be cremated. Her ashes will be placed to rest with Vern, Ken and Mary in a private ceremony. The family would like to extend their very sincere appreciation and thanks to all the staff at Miramichi Lodge, in particular the wonderful supportive staff on 2A. RADSKE, Josephine - In Loving Memory of Josephine Radske (Peppi) March 17th, 1927 - June 3rd, 2009 Passed away peacefully on June 3rd, 2009 at the Timmins and District Hospital. Beloved wife of the Late Richard Radske. Loving mother of Adele (Raymond) Thomas, Debbie (Tim) Tremblay, Sue Radske, Darlene (Charles) Gibbs, Karl (Karen), Harold (Lise), Rick (Julie), Frank (Nancy) and the Late Fred Radske. She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. Josephine will be sadly missed by her grandchildren and her many friends. She is survived by one sister, Ingrid of Germany and predeceased by her sisters Frieda Mausser and Marie and her brothers Joe, Louis and Karl Lobe. ‘Peppi' was born in Langton, Yugoslavia and had been a longtime and well respected resident of the Porcupine Camp. She had many friends and liked to laugh. She was a faithful member of the Catholic Women's League for many years. She enjoyed knitting, baking and took great pleasure from flower gardening. Above all Peppi enjoyed her grandchildren and family life. Remembrance donations to the charity of your choice will be gratefully acknowledged by the family. ST. JEAN, Mr. Donald - 1926-2009 - The family announces with sorrow his death at the South Centennial Manor, on Wednesday June 3, 2009. Don is survived by his sister Emelda deLaplante of Sudbury, his nephews Denis deLaplante of Sudbury, Rene deLaplante of Timmins, and Leo deLaplante of Orillia as well as his niece Lise Rowlandson of Porcupine. He was predeceased by his Parents Emile St. Jean and Isidoria (Arsene) Fournier, and his sisters Anita Grant, Cecile Harrie. Don was a veteran, an avid angler and hunter; a real outdoorsman! He was also involved in Search & Rescue, was a Volunteer Firefighter, and a Firearms Safety Instructor. AYER, Katalin Kathie Ayer, aged 58, passed away peacefully with family on Wednesday, June 3rd at Sudbury Regional Hospital 10 days after suffering a heart attack. Beloved wife of 35 years to John Ayer, and loving mother to sons George, David, and Steven. She leaves brothers George Sandor and Istvan Darabos, and is predeceased by her parents Steven and Gisele Sandor of Ottawa. Cherished aunt of Jenny (Ayer) MacMillan, Christina (Ayer) Bigoloni, Jonathan Sandor and Stephanie (Sandor) Prince. While her passing is an unexpected and painful loss, we are profoundly thankful for her loving spirit and her life's teachings of unconditional love and compassion. Kathie's deep and great love for her family and inspirational life stories have touched hearts and opened minds. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew her. Kathie became a teacher in 1990 and had been joyfully devoted and dedicated to her profession, her colleagues and especially her students ever since. She taught grades 2 and 3 French Immersion at St. Theresa Catholic School and will be sadly missed by all her students. Kathie was an active member and reader at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. BALLANTYNE, Wilfred M. Suddenly and unexpectedly at his home in Perth on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009 (served for over 20 years with the Ministry of the Solicitor General, Toronto) at the age of 79. As a young woman she worked at Metropolitan Life and later as a ward clerk at the Ottawa Civic Hospital for 17 years, but Shirley is best known for her years of service at the Metropolitan Bible Church. NOLAN, Doris (nee Kealey) Peacefully and with dignity in her 93rd year on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 surrounded by her family at Saint Patrick's Home. Predeceased by her beloved husband Leo and her daughter Noreen. Left to mourn her loss are her daughter Kathleen, grandchildren Bruce, Lise and Lori- Ann, and great-grandchildren Megan and Shelby. Saint Patricks's Home has been her residence for the past 8 years. She had many friends and she greatly appreciated the care and compassion she received from staff, clergy and volunteers. O'HANDLEY, Alexander (Sandy) Peacefully in hospital on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, in his 90th year. Beloved husband of the late Pat O'Handley (nee Persson) his "dear heart". Dear father of Sandra (Tony Garnett) of Richmond, Sharon (Richard Hewitt) of Kanata, Gordon of North Bay and Patricia (Ron Beltrame) of Sudbury. Loving grandfather of Jennifer, Michael, Matthew, Laura, Kelly, Christal, Alexander, Nicholas, Daniel and Thomas. Great grandfather of Darius. There was a special place in his heart for his nephew Bobby O'Handley in Glace Bay, NS. Survived by his sister Frances in Glace Bay and predeceased by brothers Angus and John and by sisters Christy, Margaret, Lily, Ella, Goldie and Mary. Sandy was born and raised in Glace Bay, Cape Breton Island. He served his country as a gunner during WWII, moved to Sudbury where he worked as a miner/hoistman at Garson mine until his retirement. He then moved to Ottawa and joined the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires. His lasting legacy to his children and grandchildren was to appreciate the simple things in life, to not speak ill of anyone and to know that we had the abiding love of a good man. In his words you are a rich person if you have a river to canoe on and a forest to walk through. Forever in our hearts, Dear Old Dad. At his request there was no visitation. A private memorial service was held in Ottawa. STEGMAYER, Gerard M. Peacefully at home on 3 June, 2009 the second son of Oigen and Johanna, Gerard and his family were some of the first to land at Pier 21 in April 1929. Gerard was a long time employee of Shell Canada, Montreal East Refinery, from which he retired in 1984. After his return to Ottawa (NRC 1940's) in 1987, he worked tirelessly for the Nepean Liberals and also the Kiwanis. Predeceased by his brother Henry and his beloved wife Gracie, Gerry leaves behind his daughter Nancy (Joe), his grandsons Miles and Ira (Sara), his granddaughter Ariel (Larry), and his great-grandson Hugo. No service by Gerard's request. In memoriam donations can be sent to charities of choice. The family wishes to thank Dad's friends at Shell and his health care providers. WHITHAM, Dr. Kenneth (Nov.6, 1927- Apr. 22, 2009) Died peacefully in Hospice Renfrew after a 2 year battle with leukemia. He was a long time Civil Servant in the Dept. of Energy, Mines and Resources in Ottawa. He is survived by his wife Joan Dorothy (Glasspool), daughter Melanie (Wayne Lord), Stephanie (Paul Langlois) and was predeceased by daughter Katherine (Bruce Harvey). He is lovingly remembered by his 8 grandchildren. He is also survived by his only sister Audrey Grant of England. OBITUARY Jean Elizabeth Cassels Howe June 29, 1955 - May 31, 2009 ~ Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep. Jean was the beloved wife and best friend of Michael Howe, loving step mother to Laurie Potvin, Jennifer Beda and their husbands Anthony Potvin and Kevin Beda. Jean was adored by Alexandria Potvin, daughter of Laurie and Anthony Potvin. Cherished daughter of the late Ronald Andrew Cassels and Joan Roberta Clendenning of Manitoba. Dearly loved by her sister Linda (Cass) and brothers Ron and Jack. Jean also leaves behind her loving niece Kate and nephews Jamie, Geoff and Bob. Jean had a way of lighting up a room and she will be greatly missed by all. Sheila was predeceased by her husband Spencer in 1995. McQUILLEN, Donald February 8, 1943 - May 21, 2009 It is with the deepest of sadness that we announce the passing of Don McQuillen, loving grandfather, father, brother, friend and firefighter. Don is survived by his children Neil and Heidi (Brad) of Vancouver and Kelly (Al) of Nanaimo; grandchildren Makenna, Kyla and Luke; brothers Patrick, George, Eddy and Arthur of Montreal; sisters Marilyn and Linda of Montreal. Predeceased by his father John Gerald, his mother Rose Catherine of Montreal and brother Michael of Ottawa. He will be greatly missed by his many friends.. his "Yukon family". Don retired as a Captain of the Whitehorse Fire Department after thirty-three years of dedicated service. Always a firefighter, he applied his many skills to his final fight with lung cancer. His children and family would like to express their deep heartfelt thanks to Dr. Brad Avery, Dr. Danusia Kanachowski, emergency, hospital and home care staff, especially nurse Erin McKnight and relatives and friends who provided Don with comfort, care, respect and dignity throughout his journey and during his final days. In Don's words, "I am happy to have knowledgeable, giving and willing people on my team." He faced his illness with a positive spirit, enduring strength, incredible will and courage. Known by his friends as "The Mayor of Tarfu," his fondest moments were spent hunting, fishing, quading and camping with them in the Yukon. A celebration of Don's life will be held on Thursday, July 2 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the High Country Inn, 4015-4th Ave, Whitehorse, Yukon. BROWN-AZAROWICZ , Marjory Frances November 10, 1922 - May 28, 2009 Marjory Brown-Azarowicz passed away peacefully on Friday, May 28, 2009, at her residence in Fairfax, Virginia. Dr. Brown-Azarowicz, professor emeritus of George Mason University in Fairfax, was born in Calgary, AB. Among her numerous accomplishments in her career, she was the author of many books in education as well as articles and journals. In retirement, she taught piano and was a member of the Washington and Northern Virginia Music Teachers Associations. She was a member of the Vienna Seventh Day Adventist Church. Marjory is survived by her two stepchildren, Dr. Diane Black and Calvin Azarowicz; and three grandchildren, Mikhail, Vladimir and Natalya. Memorial Services were held in Virginia. CLAUSEN , Hans Haulrich May 30, 1923 - May 28, 2009 Hans Haulrich Clausen of Calgary passed away at the age of 85 years, surrounded by his family. Hans was born in Forum, Denmark and he immigrated to Canada in 1950, becoming a partner in a local cement finishing company. Hans was strong, and worked hard, always valuing good workmanship. Hans loved his family, the company of good friends and the Calgary Flames. Besides Ellen, his loving wife of fifty-five years, Hans is survived by his daughters Carol and Louise (Paul Dormaar), and his grandsons, Nicholas and Peter, who were "the apples of his eye". Hans was predeceased by his infant son, "lille Hans". Throughout the good life that Hans made here, much time was spent with the Christiansens, Soren and Jytte, and their three now-grown children - Hanne, Soren and Anna. We are deeply grateful for the ongoing, and compassionate care of Dr. Robert Herget, GP. Also we thank Rockyview General Hospital (Units 73 and 83), and the Chinook Hospice, in particular Dr. Radinskaia and nurse Rebecca. GLOWA , Thomas Michael January 17, 1946 - June 2, 2009 Thomas Michael Glowa, beloved husband of Susan Glowa of Calgary, passed away suddenly, doing what he loved best, on June 2, 2009 at the age of 63 years. Prior to meeting his soulmate, Susan in Calgary, Tom served in the Canadian Armed Forces, both nationally and internationally. Susan and Tom met through their love of horses which remained his passion until his sudden death. Tom was an avid photographer and was requested often for many special occasions. Besides his loving wife Susan, Tom is survived by his brother Steve Glowa and his sister Shirley Carrier. KORB , Paul William December 10, 1927 - May 30, 2009 Paul William Korb of Calgary passed away at the Chinook Hospice on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at the age of 81 years after a brief battle with ALS. Paul's love for music and playing the Alto Saxophone led him to become passionately involved with the Razzama Jazz Band and the Jam Band. Another favourite pastime of his was five pin bowling. He was a member of the Ottawa Valley Bowling League, which disbanded in 2008, for over thirty years. Besides his loving wife of fifty-six years, Lorraine, Paul is also survived by his daughter Pamela Bergeson; granddaughter Kasandra Hess; and two grandsons, Jesse and Wyatt Bergeson, all of Calgary, AB. He is also survived by his grandson Allan Woods and great-grandson Braven MacFarlane of Charlottown, PEI. He was predeceased by his son Randall Alexander Korb in September 2008. MONEY , Charles Charles/Chuck (PaPa) Money, August 20, 1926, passed away peacefully at home June 4, 2009. He is survived by his beloved wife of over fifty-eight years, Midge, two sons Charles (Connie), Robert (Laura). He was predeceased by his son Brian Douglas (Loretto). He was lovingly adored by his eight grandchildren, Glen, Dustin (Becky), Chuck, Sole (Noel), Fabi (Jorge), Amanda (Trevor), Charlene, and Danny. He also loved each one of his six great-grandchildren, Reid, Ben, Jess, Lukas, Jonah, and Aurora. Chuck made immediate friends with anyone whom he came in contact with, sharing jokes, laughing, and talking with everyone. He was an absolute pleasure to be around and a prankster at heart. SMITH , Dr. Harold Gordon February 10, 1919 - May 27, 2009 Gordon will be lovingly remembered by his daughter and son-in-law. Bev and Bert Furlong; son and daughter-in-law, Graham and Judy; grandchildren Chris (Cara), Jeff (Christie), and Erin; great-grandchildren Mason, Jada, Kaiya, Braeden, Colton and Taivan; brother Fred (Addy); sister Audrey (Jim) Harris; sisters-in-law Joan Anderson and Isabel Smith, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by Madalen, his wife of sixty-one years in July 2008 and grandson David, 1979. Gordon served overseas with the RCAF. Upon return he completed his University of Alberta education with a BA and MD. He practiced in Maple Creek, Sask. for over forty years. He enjoyed his profession and served on many provincial and national medical committees, and was a life member of the Canadian Medical Association. YELLAND , Sherman September 17, 1917 - June 1, 2009 After a long and happy life, Sherman died at age 91 surrounded by family. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of sixty-five years, Jean; his four children, Lois (Archie), Pegg (Neil), Lorne, and Norma (Hugh); eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Sherman was predeceased by his sisters, Elizabeth Yelland and Flora Pinder and is survived by his sister Mary Powell and numerous nieces and nephews. Sherm grew up in Cadimon and graduated from Olds College and U of A with a degree in Agriculture. During his long career in the Federal and Provincial Departments of Agriculture, he worked closely with the farmers of Alberta to promote crop improvement and the early development of the Canola industry. Sherm passed on his love of gardening to his children and his skill at playing crib right down to his youngest grandchild. He was happiest when surrounded by family and friends and will be fondly remembered for his wit, humour and harmonica playing. PIANOSI, “Dick“ Duilio - In loving memory of Dick Pianosi, 72 years, of Copper Cliff, who passed away Thursday, June 4th, 2009 at his residence. Dick was born in Fano, Italy and married Joyce (Didone). A well respected & well known Copper Cliff resident, Dick had been an excellent carpenter and builder for many years. He retired as an inspector for the Ministry of Housing. He had been an active and hard working member of the Copper Cliff Italian Club, having been a former manager of the Club. He also was a past president of the Sudbury Cycling Club and he was a member of the Caruso Club. Dick was quick to help others. His efforts, hardwork and leadership were acknowledged last year as he received the Ontario Seniors Achievement Award at Queen's Park. His light and love will be cherished by his family and many friends and it will continue to guide them on their life's journeys. The family express their appreciation to the staff of Bayshore and CCAC for their kind and compassionate care given to Dick. Dick was always available to lend a hand and always put everyone else's needs ahead of his own. He will be greatly missed by all his family his many friends and the Italian Community of Copper Cliff with whom he dedicated so much of his time. AYER, Katalin - In loving memory of Kathie Ayer, 58, who passed away peacefully with family on Wednesday, June 3rd at Sudbury Regional Hospital, 10 days after suffering a heart attack. Beloved wife of 35 years for John Ayer, and loving mother to sons George, David and Steven. She leaves brothers George Sandor and Istvan Darabos, and is predeceased by her parents Steven and Gisele Sandor of Ottawa. Cherished aunt of Jenny (Ayer) MacMillan, Christina (Ayer) Bigoloni, Jonathan Sandor and Stephanie (Sandor) Prince. While her passing is an unexpected and painful loss, we are profoundly thankful for her loving spirit and her life's teachings of unconditional love and compassion. Kathie's deep and great love for her family and inspirational life stories have touched hearts and opened minds. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew her. Kathie became a teacher in 1990 and has been joyfully devoted and dedicated to her profession, her colleagues and especially her students ever since. She taught grades 2 and 3 French immersion at St. Theresa Catholic School and will be sadly missed by all her students. Kathie was an active member and reader at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. PITZEL, Laverne John - In loving memory of Laverne John Pitzel, 87 years, who passed away Thursday, June 4th, 2009 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - St. Joseph Health Centre. Beloved husband of Eleanor (Latimer) Pitzel of Sudbury. Loving father of Shawn (Elaine Gaboriaud), Kathy, Dorothy and Joe (Rhonda Riedel). Cherished grandfather of Samantha, Kelcey and Alex. Dear son of Paul and Rose (Cody) Pitzel both predeceased. Dear brother of Harry (Hanriette), Vicky (Red) and Lorna (Bill predeceased). Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Born in Humbolt, Sask., Laverne was a World War II veteran, a 25 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 76 Sudbury, and the War Pensioners of Canada. He had 33 years of service with INCO, retiring in 1982. He was a longstanding member of Holy Trinity Church Men's Club. Laverne enjoyed spending time at his camp with all of the family. He had a wonderful gift and passion for music, and he loved to play the accordion for over 40 years, especially at long term care facilities like Pioneer Manor. Fernande Melanson 1920-2009 À l'Hôpital régional Dr-Georges-L.-Dumont, le vendredi 5 juin 2009, à l'âge de 89 ans, est décédée paisiblement entourée de sa famille Fernande «Fern» Melanson. Elle demeurait à la Résidence Bellevue de Dieppe. Née le 27 septembre 1920 à Scoudouc, elle était fille de feu Alban et Lydie (Gaudet) Melanson, et la belle-fille de feu Mélas Bastarache. Elle laisse dans le deuil deux soeurs: Jeanne Cormier (Laurie) de Moncton et Anita Thibodeau-Babin (feu Émile) de Shédiac; deux belles-soeurs: Rita Melanson de Bouctouche et Élia Melanson de Moncton, ainsi que plusieurs dévoués nièces et neveux. Elle est précédée dans la tombe par six frères: Emery (1979), Aldérice (2003), Alfred (2000), Edmond (2007), Paul-Émile (2005) et Albert (1998). Fernande, une paroissienne de Dieppe, faisait partie du mouvement Cursillo. Une employée du gouvernement fédéral pendant plus de 35 années, dont en dernier avec Transports Canada, puis une longue retraite bien remplie. Membre à vie du club curling Beauséjour, elle aimait aussi le golf. Elle a fait plusieurs heures de bénévolat, et a été présidente des bénévoles de l'Hôpital Dr-Georges-L.-Dumont. La dépouille mortelle sera exposée au Salon funéraire Frenette, 88, rue Church à Moncton (858-1900, www.salonfrenette.com). Les funérailles auront lieu en l'église Sainte-Thérèse de Dieppe, le lundi 8 juin, à 11h. JUDY ANN LeGARDE The husband of Judy LeGarde, along with her family (Yerxa), sorrowfully announce the passing of Judy Ann LeGarde, 47, of 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ont., formerly of Couchiching First Nation, Ont., on Monday, June 1, 2009 at her residence. Judy was born Nov. 23, 1961 in Fort Frances. On June 2, 2006, Judy was united in marriage to Cifford LeGarde at the hospital chapel in Fort Frances. Judy’s cats were like children to her. She was well-known as the “All Star” by her family and close friends because of her love and passion in watching wrestling. She also loved spending time with her family fishing whenever time permitted. Judy will be missed dearly by her family and friends alike. She was predeceased by her father, Robert Yerxa Sr.; brother, Ron Yerxa; sister-in-law, Marlene Yerxa; and her beloved cat, Tigar. GEORGE OTTERTAIL It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of George Ottertail, 81, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Riverside Health Care Facilities, Inc. with his family by his side. George was born Nov. 5, 1927 at Lac La Croix First Nation. George was predeceased by his wife, Clara Ottertail; parents, George Ottertail Sr. and Elizabeth Labott; two daughters, Janet (Angus Sr.) Oshawe and June Morrison; son, Ernest Ottertail; brother, Everett Ottertail; sister, Dorothy Labott; and granddaughter, Angel Ottertail. Surviving are his five sons, Jerry Ottertail (Sheila), Leonard Ottertail, and Fred Ottertail, all of Lac La Croix First Nation, Wesley Ottertail of Fort Frances, Ont., and Eugene Ottertail of Grand Rapids, Mn.; three daughters, Alice Ottertail (Howard) of Seine River First Nation, Joyce Mainville (Bill) of International Falls, Mn., and Myrna Ottertail; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild. Also surviving are two brothers, Albert Ottertail and Bob Ottertail, and two sisters, Bessie Atatise and Roma Whitefish (Clifford), all of Lac La Croix. George also had numerous nieces and nephews. George lived in Lac La Croix most of his life before relocating to Fort Frances for health reasons. George was a hard-working man, who worked as a fishing guide for Campbell’s Cabins and as a carpenter for Lac La Croix First Nation. George enjoyed fishing and hunting with his life partner, Clara. He also enjoyed watching hockey, especially his favourite team, the Montreal Canadiens, and his favourite pastime was watching old western movies. George practised and respected his traditional ways. A wake service will be held Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at the Lac La Croix Roundhouse, with interment, officiated by elder Peter White, on Thursday, June 4, 2009. The pallbearers will be George’s extended family members and friends.
