Jacqueline (née Huard) Drouin Les familles Drouin et Huard ont le regret de vous annoncer le décès de Mme Jacqueline Drouin (née Huard), décédée le 6 mai 2009 à l'âge de 77 ans. Fille de feu Rolland Huard et de feu Rose Hannah Waldeisen et l'épouse bien-aimée de feu Bernard Drouin. Elle laisse dans le deuil ses filles Sophie Drouin (Stephen Sitarski) et Émilie (Marc Gaulin). Grand-maman adorée d'Emma. Elle laisse également ses frères Leonel Huard (Diane Languedoc), Denis Huard (Judy), Guillaume (Hélène Huard); ses belles-soeurs Andrée, Thérèse Drouin et Charlotte Légaré. Ainsi que plusieurs neveux, nièces et ami(e)s. Elle fut précédée dans la mort par son frère Gérald Huard (Denyse). Il n'y aura pas de visites au salon. LUSK, Alvina Lillian (nee Shaw) Peacefully on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, in her 92nd year. Born to Thomas and Emma (Cress) Shaw in Waldeck West, Nova Scotia on October 30, 1917. Predeceased by her 1st husband Douglas Trimper and by her 2nd husband Ronald Lusk. She is survived by her son Wendell Trimper (June) of Clementsport, Nova Scotia; by her step-daughters Barbara Seaward of Ottawa and Brenda (Ed) Gervais of Ottawa; by 12 grandchildren and several great and great-great-grandchildren. Alvina was predeceased by her daughter Margaret McElheran, by her sons Garnet and Clyde Trimper, by her sister Elsie Shaw and by her half-brothers Samuel, John, Walter and Colin Wilkins. During her lifetime she worked at H.M.C.S. Cornwallis, Nova Scotia, at Richmond Bakery and at K-Mart Bells Corners, Ontario. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church, Richmond, Ontario. BORRIE, George "Howard" June 1, 1921 - May 25, 2009 Howard passed away peacefully in Ottawa, on Monday, May 25, 2009. He will be remembered by family and friends as a kind and gracious, gentle man with a great sense of humour. A devoted husband to the late Ruby and the late Betty. Howard was the son of the late George Greenwood Borrie and Maria Borrie (nee Quintal). He was a sweet, wonderful and protective brother to June (Mel) Clark, the late Muriel Owen and brother-in-law to John (Judy) Owen. IN MEMORIAM RCMP Chief Superintendant J.J. LAURENT FOREST A Tribute Thirty five years ago, a father died. Like all policemen, Larry served his country quietly, without fanfare. He took a bullet in a drug raid and survived. He located the farm house in St. Luc where the killers of Quebec cabinet Minister Pierre Laporte were hiding in a secretive fully equipped underground cave that took months to build. The police found nothing on their first two lengthy searches. His persistent belief led to a third raid during which a weary accomplice gave the murderers up. His men loved him, as he led by example. He dropped in on them on weekends and at nights when they were on lonely assignments. He supported them in the face of criticism. He gave one leave to get married during a national crisis when no leave was allowed. He was unorthadox and a little eccentric. Instead of buying chicken legs at the supermarket nicely presented in a plastic package, this farm boy bought a live chicken one weekend. His horrified city slicker children were shown just how the yummy legs got in that package. He raised three children on his beliefs. Give your best. Obey the law. Be honest. Be respectful. Be kind. On May 29, 1974, a heart attack ended his life at age fifty-five. He never got to see his children marry nor meet his grandchildren. But he is not forgotten. He is not unloved. OBITUARY ERIKA HELLER With great sadness, the family announces the passing of Erika Meredith Heller, on Thursday, May 28, 2009. She died peacefully surrounded by her husband Ryan Cornell, her parents, George and Linda, and her brother Ben. She was a loving wife, a devoted daughter, a protective sister, and a loyal friend to so many. She leaves aunts and uncles, Ruth & Joe, Carol & Brian, Jean & Bob, Willie & Beth, Larry and Paul, and many cousins. She will be remembered by her colleagues at Hudson's Bay Company, and her friends at the Commonwealth Games of Canada, Colon Cancer Canada and Look Good Feel Better. Many people have said that they felt a special connection to Erika. She was able to draw people out and engage them and make them feel special. She had room in her heart for all children, especially Maddy, Ava, Elle, and all animals. Erika lit up every room she entered and we will miss her every single day. She was predeceased by her husband Warren (2000); brother John (1997); and sister Jessie Herron (2008). She is the loving mother of Sheila (Brian) Gordon and Irene (Martin) Buck; dearly loved Granny of Kyle (Rhonda), Kevin, Graham (Laurencia) and Julie Gordon; and Sarah and Joshua (Michelle) Buck. Mary felt truly blessed by three great-grandchildren, Makenna and Kassidy Gordon and London Buck. She will be remembered by sister-in-law Edith Charles and numerous nieces and nephews. GIESBRECHT , Henry February 2, 1921 - May 24, 2009 Henry Giesbrecht, beloved husband of Beatrice Giesbrecht (nee Adams) of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2009 at the age of 88 years. Henry served overseas in World War II with the Loyal Edmonton Regiment. After being wounded, he came home in 1944 and joined CP Rail where he worked for thirty-seven years, retiring in 1981. He had many good family holidays and enjoyed his grandchildren, nieces and nephews immensely. Besides his loving wife of sixty-three years, Henry is also survived by his daughter Deanna; two sons, Dennis (Lorraine) and their children Vanessa and Russell; and Daryl (Ingrid) and their children Kyle and Jared. He is also survived by his brother Jack Giesbrecht, his sister Nettie Rothwell and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Bowie and Susan Giesbrecht. Alice was born in Bow Island, Alberta. She lived and worked in Calgary her whole life. Alice loved Calgary and the surrounding areas enjoying camping at all times. Alice was a quiet, gentle woman who never complained about life. She was well-liked and respected by those who knew her. She was predeceased by her sister Jean. Tirath was born in the village of Passi Thiara district Hoshiarpur, Punjab, India. After marriage, she lived in the village Dhade Fateh Singh, district Hoshiarpur. Tirath came to Canada in 1979 to Victoria, B.C. She moved to Calgary in 1991. Tirath was predeceased by her husband Pritam Singh Rehill in 1989 and her son-in-law Gurmail. Tirath had four brothers and three sisters. Two brothers and two sisters still reside in India. She was a very caring, personable and empathetic person, always putting other people's interests before her own. TANNOUS , Eileen A. November 14, 1916 - May 25, 2009 Eileen passed away peacefully at the Wentworth Manor with her family at her side. Eileen is lovingly remembered by her son Rod Esper and her daughter Denise Kadatz (Dennis). She is dearly missed by six grandchildren: Karen Kadatz-Vogel (Paul), Kim Kadatz (Bryan Mahoney), Kurt Kadatz (Sneh Seetal); Ed Esper, Rodney Esper Jr. (Becky) and Jodi Esper; and seven great-grandchildren: Nathalie, Lauren, Gianni, Alec, Austin, Thane and Elsa. Eileen is also survived by her sister Shirley Laatsch and her children Dr. Keith Laatsch (Bernie) and Cindy Reader (Bob) as well as her brother Ron Collard (Barbara) and their families. Eileen was born and raised in Saskatchewan, but lived most of her adult life in Edmonton before moving to Calgary thirteen years ago. Eileen was predeceased by her first husband Edward Esper in 1950, her second husband Joseph (Joe) A. Tannous in 1980 and stepson Terry Tannous. A gifted artisan and a long-time member of the Rug Hookers Guild in both Edmonton and Calgary, Eileen created many handmade rugs over the years. Eileen loved to entertain family and friends in both Edmonton and Calgary. She was a gracious hostess and a wonderful cook, who mastered the Lebanese cuisine introduced to her Lebanese family. She was a proud and active member of P.E.O. Sisterhood, which promotes educational opportunities for women. She was an avid reader and kept her mind sharp with daily crossword puzzles and regular games of scrabble and cribbage. She had a keen interest in virtually all sports on television. In addition, she was one of those rare "Alberta Liberals". She and Joe enjoyed many trips to Hawaii and later she travelled extensively around the world. Eileen found joy and friendship though her involvement in the Knox-Metropolitan United Church in Edmonton and more recently the Presbyterian Church in Calgary. Most of all, Eileen will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and sense of humour. Eileen's family invites friends to join them in celebrating her life at the Varsity Acres Presbyterian Church, 4612 Varsity Drive N.W. at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2009. Frances was the special aunt of Marlene Dashney and her husband Wayne, of North Bay, Michael Dickey and his wife Peggy of Montreal and Stephen Dickey of Vancouver. The dearly loved wife of the late Lionel Dunn and Don Page of North Bay she will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. A dedicated wife and mother, Frances volunteered for many years with the disabled in Sault Ste. Marie and North Bay. She was the Corresponding Secretary and volunteer with the Ladies Auxiliary of the former Civic Hospital. A gifted seamstress and artist, she had a great passion for music and crafts. BATCULES, Harry William - October 30, 1928-May 20, 2009 Dad passed peacefully and will be sadly missed by his children Charlotte (Chris), Bill (Michelle), Barb and their mother Maria. He was a proud grandfather to Cameron, Conner and Seth. Predeceased by his parents William and Zoe, brothers Jack and Fred. Dear brother of Mary (David) Saunders, Sophia (Bob) Latter, Jim (Pat) and George. He is survived by his many nieces, nephews and friends. Dad lived with Multiple Sclerosis since the age of 17. He lived his life to the fullest by his motto of the four D's: Dedication,Desire, Determination and Drive. Through this motto he achieved partnership in the Victoria Candy Kitchen, William J's Restaurant and also achieved his FRI distinction with the Real Estate Institute of Canada. Harry was a voting active member of the St. Catharines- Niagara Real Estate Board, Toastmasters International and was a Mason. He owned and operated H.W. Batcules Real Estate until his retirement at the age of 65. Dad was an avid chess player and spent countless hours playing chess with his good buddies. A gathering to honour the life of Harry Batcules will be held on June 6, 2009 at the Folk Art Council 85 Church St., St. Catharines, 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. We welcome you to share your memories of Harry with us on this day. HOBA, Muriel (born Wilson) - Passed away May 26th at the age of 90 in the presence of her son Paul and daughter in law Jane in the ICU unit of St. Catharines General Hospital. She will be remembered by all that knew her and those lives she touched. Joseph her husband and Michael her son have predeceased her along with Michael's two sons Ryan and Shaun and Muriel's sister Ada. Muriel is survived by Paul and Jane and their two daughters Kirsten and Lisa as well as her sister Isabel and children Patricia and Roger and their families and nephew Robert and family. She and Joe travelled to the four corners of the world and brought back memories that have inspired her family to travel. Grand daughter's Kirsten traveling to Cambodia and Lisa in Australia and NZ at present. We all regret the passing of our mother, mother in law, grandma, sister and aunt at this time but know that she has passed on at peace for ever after. Donations in her name to the Cancer society. NELSON, Voilet Olga Marie. It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Violet, our Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma. She considered Simcoe Heritage Lodge her home and the staff and residents, especially Ruth & Rita her family. She passed away at Norfolk General Hospital on May 19th, 2009 with her family at her side. She was in her 89th year. She is survived by her Daughter Joy Doty (Jim) of Simcoe and her son Robert Nelson (Laurna) of Waterloo and Cathie Nelson of St. Catharines. Also surviving are Grandchildren Janet Hare (Jordan), their sons Quinn O'Connor and Aidan Hare of Simcoe; Robin Doty of Guelph; Matthew Nelson (Allyson) of St. Catharines; David Doty (Nutsuda) of Melbourne Austrailia and Christian Nelson (Traci) and their daughter Camryn as well as step children Joseph, Sarah and Patrick of Hamilton. She will be missed by sisters in law Ruby Dugan of Fredonia, New York, Olga Bacall of Toronto and beloved friend Ella Bird of St. Catharines, as well as several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to acknowledge the kindness of Dr. W. Wynveen and Dr. G. MITCHELL, John Miles “Jack“ - passed away peacefully at Lakeland Long Term Care Centre, Parry Sound, on Wednesday May 27, 2009. Jack Mitchell of Parry Sound and formerly of Southampton, in his 93rd year. Beloved husband for 60 years of marriage of the late Jean Mitchell (December 3, 2008). Lovingly remembered by his sister Mrs. Helen Turton of Hamilton and by his devoted daughters, Helma Mitchell of Dundas and Janet and her husband Bert Rodrigue of Parry Sound. Proud grandfather of Matthew Dunning of Cambridge and Jennifer and her husband Omar Farah of Kitchener. Very proud great- grandfather of Alexis Dunning and Nasrallah and Miriya Farah. Fondly remember by numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Peter (1971) and Annie (1950) Mitchell. Jack was a much loved and well-respected high school teacher. His love of community and students was evident in his involvement with student council and volunteer work with developmentally challenged children. Jack was active in VON and a supportive and active member of his church community. Jack was a veteran of WW11 and was a member of the British Intelligence Agency MI 5. Bob was a selfless man of unwavering integrity. His strength and optimism were an inspiration to his wife, family, and friends, and he always followed and encouraged a philosophy of continual learning. He enjoyed the intricacies of computer technology, right from the beginning of home computing, and had an enduring curiosity about the many aspects of the world. Bob also loved ballroom dancing and mastering new steps that he could practice with Pam (with thanks to the DJ's at Grumbler's). Above all, Bob loved unconditionally, his wife Pamela and children Ryan and Erin. A private celebration of Bob's life to take place in the family garden by invitation. Retired from INCO as the Supervisor of Financial Services, and member of CGA since 1982. HASSETT, Michael Patrick - In loving memory of Michael Patrick Hassett, 73 years, who passed away Thursday, May 28th, 2009 at his residence. Michael was a longtime and well known Donovan resident. A hardworking man, he took pride in his work at INCO as a shift boss in the mechanical dept retiring with 30 years service. A devout Roman Catholic, he attended Holy Trinity Church and he was a founding member of the parish Men's Club. He enjoyed sports, especially hockey. In his younger years, he was an accomplished player. He was devoted to his loving family especially his precious grandchildren in whom he took great pride and interest in their activities and accomplishments.
