BURNYEAT , Ivy Edith 1916 - 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on April 27, 2009. Ivy recently moved from Calgary, AB to Fruitvale, BC and settled into Mountain Side Village, where she passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was 92 years old. Ivy was predeceased by her beloved husband Charles Edward (Ned) Burnyeat in 1999; her parents Jessie and Tom Pavely; three sisters Lil, Ethel and Rene; and her brother Len. She is survived by her son Ron, and her daughter Carol (Phil) Brooks; her granddaughters Shalaume (Don) Leslie, Lelaine Hamilton, and Charlene Burnyeat; as well as six great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. John's Church in Fruitvale on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Al Grywacheski of PERSONAL ALTERNATIVE FUNERAL SERVICES "Carberry's Chapel" is entrusted with arrangements. OBITUARY CHRISTINA (CHRIS) ONIONS (nee HYNDS) 1927 - 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Chris, devoted wife of Doug and loving mother of Larry, on April 28, 2009. True to her Scottish roots, Chris put up a long and determined battle but in the end left this world peacefully, in her sleep. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, and will always be remembered by the many other people whose lives she touched with her generous love and kindness. She was always willing to do as much as possible to help everyone. We want to thank the dedicated doctors, nurses and support staff of the Dialysis Unit of the Jewish General Hospital for all their help during the over four years that Chris was a patient there, as well as the incredible nurses and staff on the 3rd floor of the Bayview Centre, for all the care they gave to Chris, and us, during this difficult period. The family will receive condolences on Monday, May 4, from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Mount Royal Funeral Complex (1297 Chemin de la Foret, Outremont (514-279-6540). The Funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Tuesday, May 5 at 11 a.m. with the family receiving condolences a half hour prior. BRINDLE , Richard David February 8, 1979 - April 28, 2009 We are heartbroken to announce the death of Richard at the tender age of 30 after a tragic accident. Richard will always be loved and remembered by his parents, David and Judy, his sisters, Jennifer, Jane (and husband Marty), and Elizabeth, his nieces Jessica, Jacqueline and Katie, his grandmothers, Leah Leadbetter and Doris Brindle, his aunts, uncles and cousins, and his many, many friends. We are grateful for the medical care Richard received at the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital and the Foothills Medical Centre. Special thanks to the Foothills ICU medical team, especially Marcella Murray and Dr. Boiteau. Richard loved his life and had many passions. In particular, he had a great love for people and was always interested in sharing stories, ideas and laughs. McMULLEN , Carol Ann October 26, 1942 - April 30, 2009 Carol Ann McMullen, beloved wife of Brad McMullen of Calgary, passed away peacefully with her family by her side after a seventeen year battle with cancer on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at the age of 66 years. Elle était l'épouse de feu Gérard Pilon et la fille de feu Trefflé Gunville et de feu Églantine Charron. Elle laisse dans le deuil sa fille unique Jocelyne (André Dupras), sa petite-fille Nathalie (Paul Bériault), son frère «Fern» Fortunat Gunville (Darquise Lalande) de Gatineau, sa soeur «Laura» Aurore Bédard d'Ottawa ainsi que plusieurs beaux-frères, belles-soeurs, neveux, nièces, cousin(e)s, parents et ami(e)s. Elle fut prédécédée par son fils Jocelyn et sa petite-fille Mélanie. Gilberte a toujours vécu discrètement et c'est ainsi qu'elle a voulu partir. CHARROIS , Laura Aged 71 years of Calgary, Alberta, passed away peacefully May 2, 2009 in her sleep. She leaves behind many loved ones along with her loving children; Bradley (Gillian) Charrois, Michelle (Steve) Altilio, Colette MacDonald and Rob Sabados and Doug (Abigail) Charrois. Laura is also survived by her grandchildren Carson and Cole Charrois, Taylor and Jake Altilio, Jerod, Patrick and Camile MacDonald, Destanee, Vivica, and Elijah Charrois. Besides her loving children and grandchildren Laura is survived by two sisters and three brothers; Doreen (Lester) Fry, Shirley (Ron) Wigington, Dwight Sarnecki, Gary (Debbie) Sarnecki and David (Mary) Sarnecki, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Laura loved to be with her family. She loved reading and watching the Calgary Flames and Stampeders. KERR, Gwynne (nee MacDonald) Passed away at the age of ninety. It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our mother and grandmother on May 3, 2009 at Melville Gardens in Halifax, Nova Scotia. In 1996 Gerald retired from Canada Post having 35 years of service. He also served in the airforce as an air frame technician from 1954-1957. Gerry loved to travel and was an accomplished musician having played the drums for over 50 years. He played with the “Commodores“ the big band at the Legion Branch 76 as well as the “New Recruits“ country band. Gerry loved people and was well known wherever he went. Gerry will be remembered as a man who always had a joke to tell. BELL, Victor Russell (Russ) - September 2, 1928-April 29, 2009 - Russ Bell, beloved husband of Beverly of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at the age of 80 years. Russ embodied the very meaning of the word “gentleman“. He was gentle, kind, generous, thoughtful, and loving. It could be said that he didn't have an enemy in the world. As a young man he was a deck officer on freighters, sailing the Great Lakes. His last position was as second mate on the largest ship on the Great Lakes at that time, the MV T.R. McLaghan which was a sister ship to the famous MV Edmond Fitzgerald. After moving to North Bay in 1961, he worked at Pinewood Park Motor Inn for many years, starting off cooking and moving up to management. After leaving the hotel business, he worked for Ontario Northland Railway as steward and chef on the Northlander for many years. He retired to Calgary in 1995, following which he was busy doing volunteer work for Canada Olympic Park, Ranchlands Community Association, Neighborlink, and Inn from the Cold. From 1998 - 2005 he worked at Heritage Park as Conductor on the train and in the roundhouse and was a member for forty years of North Bay Lodge No. 617 and the St. John's Chapter, Royal Arch Masons. Russ was a joyful person and loved being with people. He got pleasure from going to concerts and plays, especially musicals where he knew the words to most of the songs. Besides his loving wife Beverly, he is also survived by his children and their spouses, Lynn and Joe Palangio, Bradley and Lorie, Brian and Mirriam, and Wayne and Julie Bell; grandchildren, Rebecca, Michael, Ryan, Nikki, Robbie, Leanne, and Brianna. He was predeceased by his parents Mildred Marineau and Robert Victor Bell. He will be sadly missed. BEDNAROWSKI, Aleksander - After a courageous battle with cancer, on Saturday May 2, 2009, at 70 years of age. Beloved husband of Marianna for 50 years. Loving father of Robert (Jane), Irene (Lorne) and Edward (Minnie). Cherished grandfather of Aleks, Daniel, Samantha and Peter. He is survived by his brothers Adam, Anthony and his sister Sophie of Poland. Predeceased by his brothers Czeslaw of Poland and Stanley of St. Catharines. Aleks came to Canada in 1961 and worked in General Motors for 32 years. During that time he was a long serving Past President of the Canadian Polish Society and then the Polish Congress. He was very active in both the community and the church which resulted in him receiving one of Poland's highest awards, The Silver Cross. Aleks is resting at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St. until Wednesday at 10:30am. STUBBINS, Arthur A. - Of Welland, peacefully, with his family by his bedside, at the Welland Hospital on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at 90 years of age. Cherished husband of the late Marion Stubbins. Beloved father of Joanne Stubbins, Linda Conway and Rick Stubbins (Linda), all of Welland and Wayne Stubbins (Penny) of Ridgeway. Mr. Stubbins is further survived by 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, a brother Edward Stubbins of Welland, sister-in-law Jeanne Foulis of Niagara Falls and numerous nieces and nephews. Also predeceased by parents Arthur A. Sr. and Annie Stubbins, his granddaughter Robin Lafleur and two brothers, William and Albert. Born in Kitchener, Mr. Stubbins moved to Welland where he took employment with Atlas Steels, retiring after 42 years as supervisor of the south plant. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club of Atlas and as well was an avid bowler and golfer.
