CARR, Joseph 1928 - 2009 Joe passed away peacefully at home on May 1st following a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend Bev, his children Dave (Roberta), Lorraine (Mike), David, Jo-Anne (Larry) and Lynda (Jose), Lorne (Andrea) and by his grandchildren Paul, Sarah, Jessica and Dyllon. He was the cherished brother-in-law and loyal friend of Wayne (Karen), Jack, Cathy (Bob) and Carol. Joe will also be deeply missed by his family in England - sister Lil, niece Carol and nephew John. Heartfelt thanks to the Palliative Care Team - Dr. Farncombe, Dr. Bright, Dr. Engelhardt and Max, as well as the nurses from Bayshore Home Health. There will be a memorial for family and friends with a legion tribute held at The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 638, 70 Hines Road, Kanata, on Wednesday, May 6th at 12 pm. ELSTON, Dorothy Irma - Peacefully at the Kingston General Hospital on May 3, 2009, from an abdominal aneurysm. Dorothy was in her 79th year and was born and raised in Brandon, Manitoba. Beloved wife of Clay Elston, and loving mother of son Robert Elston (Kym), daughter Laura Elston, and grandchildren Jennifer and Clarke Elston. Dorothy is survived by sisters, Shirley Mitchell (Walter) of Edmonton, Alberta, Anna Wall, and Fran Mitchell-Milne of Brandon, Manitoba, and many cousins, nieces and nephews in Western Canada and the U.S. Dorothy was predeceased by her brother Jack Roberts and her sister Florence Daniels of Edmonton, Alberta. Since her arrival in Kingston in the mid - 1950s with her husband Clay, who joined the newly formed Du Pont Research Centre, Dorothy played a very active role in a wide range of community activities. Advancing senior years, three hip operations and a spinal column injury slowed her down, but Dorothy continued to be as active as her health would permit. In addition to her ongoing love for family and friends, her love of gardening was one that she continued to enjoy despite physical challenges. She developed one of Kingston's most extensive peony gardens. Throughout her life, Dorothy maintained her profound love of music. In her younger years, she was blessed with a well-trained and beautiful coloratura soprano voice. Soprano soloist at Sydenham United Church for a number of years, she often appeared as Guest Soloist with the Kingston Symphony and other music events. In the mid-1960s she formed the Gadabouts Senior Citizens Choir, personally making costumes for the forty choir members. During the next decade the choir made two cross-Canada trips, performing for audiences from Victoria, B.C., to the Maritimes and Newfoundland. In 1975 the Choir travelled to England and Wales, performing at hospitals and seniors centres. A review of past issues of the Kingston Whig-Standard over this period reveals scores of news items and pictures, featuring Dorothy's far-reaching community involvement. Visitation will be held at the JAMES REID FUNERAL HOME (1900 John Counter Boulevard), on Wednesday, May 6, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, followed by a Memorial Service at the same location at 2 pm on May 7. MEYER, Gilbert "Gib" September 19, 1919 - May 2, 2009 Gib passed away in Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital on Saturday morning. Gilbert Meyer of RR 3 Arnprior in his 90th year. Son of the late Fred H. Meyer and Elizabeth Holbein. Dear brother of Bill (Myrtle) Meyer and Marion (Alf) Mann both of RR 3 Arnprior. Predeceased by a sister Ada in 2001 and a brother Edgar in 1958. Eric J. Cormier 1931-2009 A l'Hôpital de Moncton le dimanche 3 mai 2009, à l'âge de 77 ans, est décédé Éric J. Cormier, domicilié à Moncton, avenue Katherine. Né à Moncton le 15 septembre 1931, il était le fils de feu Ladislaus et Lina (LeBlanc) Cormier. Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse, Marie-Jeanne (Pellerin) Cormier; trois enfants: Daniel (Rhoda), David (Karen) et Diane Hughes (James); quatre petits-enfants: Ashley, Thomas, Nicholas et Tiffany-Lynn; ses frères et soeurs: Omer (Georgina), Jean-Paul (Geraldine), Elva Bourgeois, Huberte Trudelle, Pauline Laverdure (Denis) et Louise-Hélène Pyke; plusieurs nièces et neveux. Une soeur, Jeannette Belliveau; ainsi que deux frères: Harvey et Arthur l'ont précédé dans la tombe. La dépouille mortelle ne sera pas exposée. SAVAGE , Georgia Jean (nee Bullock) August 7, 1928 - May 1, 2009 Georgia Jean Savage, beloved wife of Alfred of Calgary, has left us after a very short illness, to be in the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on Friday, May 1, 2009 at the age of 80 years. Besides her loving husband of fifty-seven years, Alfred, Georgia leaves behind her five children; Michael (Dawn), Eric (Sonya), Reggie (Wayne), Carrie (Len), LJ (Donna); nine wonderful grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her two sisters, Marylou (Ron) and Nancy and her many close, numerous friends. Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. BYGGDIN, Joyce - Passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Olds, Alberta on Monday, April 13, 2009 in her 89th year. Beloved wife of Ralph for 68 years; loving mother of Donna (Bill) Souster, Lois (Brian) Cooke, Rhonda (Elgin Eddy) Byggdin, and Vern (Sandra) Byggdin; cherished grandmother of eleven and great grandmother of seven. She will also be remembered by her nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sisters Ruth Creswell, Freda Bulpit and brothers Frank, George and Charlie Stanier and her parents George and Louisa Stanier of England. Joyce was born in Glen Orchard, Ontario on February 15, 1921. She met Ralph Byggdin while attending Lorne Park College. They were married January 22, 1941 and moved west to begin a pastoral ministry with the Free Methodist Church. Joyce was happy to return to Ontario for the last 11 years of their 36-year ministry. She worked in various public sector administrative support positions in addition to her role as a pastor's wife. Joyce loved to crochet, knit, sew, and could often be found at her easel painting beautiful portraits and landscapes. OBITUARY FREDERICK C. WARREN It is with great sadness that we announce the passing, on April 20, 2009, of Fred after a valiant battle. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Lillian, after sixty-five years of a wonderful and loving relationship, and his son Kenneth. He son, Fred Jr. (Bumpy), predeceased him. Fred lived a life of caring and devotion. During his career, he served in the Canadian Army from 1941-54, and he worked in industry for many years. His greatest satisfaction was singing and playing his guitar for the residents at the Institute for the Blind and other residences. Both he and his wife raised funds for muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis. He and Lillian swam in national competitions way into their eighties though the D.D.O. Master's Program. His love for children was boundless, especially Annik and Lincoln, to whom he was known as "Grandpapa". The staff as the Montreal General Hospital and Bussey's deserve much credit for their devotion and care for Fred during his last few months. Donations in his memory and honour could be sent to the Montreal Children's Hospital if you wish. May Fred's loving nature be an inspiration for all of us who have had the privilege of knowing him. THAYER, Florence - Passed away peacefully at the North Bay General Hospital on Thursday, April 30th, 2009 after a short battle with cancer, at the age of 52. Florence is predeceased by her parents Jack and Elsie Thayer, a brother Ray, and two sisters Diana and Lacy. She will be lovingly remembered by her siblings Lillian Wallace (Earl), John Thayer (Sue), Billy Thayer, Mary Matte (Fern), Lois Thayer, and Robert Thayer (Micheline); as well as many nieces and nephews. PEDERSEN, Harold - At the North Bay General Hospital on Friday May 1, 2009 in his 84th year. Dear husband of the late Margot (nee Simonsen). Loving father of Per of North Bay, Sven (Marlene) of Redbridge, Ingrid of North Bay and Lisa of New Liskeard. Predeceased by his daughter Cindy Stewart (husband James surviving). Sadly missed by grandchildren Lee Ann, Kim, Jori, Heidi, Kari, Paul, Mark, Amanda, Jordan and Jena and by 7 great grandchildren. Survived by his sister Sonja (Lucien) Clement of Temiscaming and by brothers Arnold (Lynne) of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Raymond (Gloria) of Dalhousie, New Brunswick. Predeceased by 4 brothers. Harold was born in Norway and came to Canada at the age of four, settling with his parents in Temiscaming, Quebec. He joined the Norwegian airforce during WWII and was stationed in Kjevik, Norway where he met and married Margot. They made their home in North Bay and raised their family. Harold had his own business as a plasterer. He was an avid fisherman, travelling long distances to catch pickerel in the coldest lakes. He also loved to hunt partridge near his camp at Mclaren's Bay. Friends may call at the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME (across from city hall) on Wednesday from 2-4 pm. The funeral service will follow in the chapel at 4 pm. Cremation at the Forest lawn Crematorium.
