Anne Boyde Beck, Montague At the Kings County Memorial Hospital in Montague on Sunday, May 3, 2009, of Anne Boyde Beck (nee Leeco) of Montague, age 79 years. Beloved wife of Edwin Beck. Loving mother of Doug, Milltown; Louise (Malcolm Brown), Calgary; Boyde (Anna MacDonald), Mount Stewart; and Roy (Kim), Montague. Cherished grandmother of Stephen, Joseph, David, Daniel, Allison, Alexander and great-grandmother of Logan and Edwin. Sister of Isla (Preston) Robertson, Betty Strickland, Frank (Brenda) Leeco and Gail Leeco. Predeceased by daughter, Sandra. Resting at Ferguson's Montague Funeral Home from where the service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Interment in the Murray River Cemetery. Visitation: Tuesday 7-9 p.m. only. If so desired, memorials to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of P.E.I. would be appreciated.

Alberta Kordy (formerly Smallman) Born in 30/08/1942 at Alma , Prince Edward Island , Canada August 30, 1942-April 29, 2009 Alberta Kordy (formerly Smallman of O'Leary), 66, passed away peacefully April 29, 2009, at the home of daughter, Kimberley Moore of Marion, Indiana, surrounded by loving family and friends. Alberta was born on P.E.I. to Alfred and Alma Myers of Centre Line Road, Alma. Survived by her husband, Frank Kordy, P.E.I.; son, Bill Clements (Karyl), N.S.; daughter, Kimberley Moore (Dr. David), Indiana; daughter, Trista MacIsaac (Glen), P.E.I.; and grandson, Brennan. Also survived by mother, Alma Abel; sisters, Anne Johnson, Gail Vaillencourt, Darlene Liscum, P.E.I.; Janice Donker, ON; brothers, Alison, Roger, P.E.I.; Mervin, ON; Aunt Carrie Burt, P.E.I. Predeceased by her father, Alfred Myers. Sadly missed by many nephews, nieces and friends. Memorial service, Saturday, May 9, at 3 p.m., Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 20 Taylor Road, off TCH, North Bedeque, (Summerside) P.E.I.; Phil Rochefort presiding. Grandmother of Karla McCardle, Kendra Wright, Wendy Drake, Michael, Troy, Karen, Jamie, Cathy, Alexander, Keith and Laura MacDonald and great-grandmother of 15. Sister of Roy Wood, Florida, and sister-in-law of Elaine. Predeceased by her husbands, Ronald Hillary MacDonald (August, 1970) and Delton Riley (October 2008), by her parents, Guy and Mae (Pope) Wood, by her sisters and brother, Marie Burke (Kenneth), Helen Jenkins (Charles) and Gordon Wood. PEARCE, Fanny Violet (nee Huggins) - Quietly at Centennial Place, Millbrook on Saturday, May 2nd, 2009 in her 92nd year. Beloved wife of the late Kenneth Dean Pearce (1982). Loving Mom of Kathy and her husband Bob Palmer and children Kerri and her husband Robert Bannon, Carla and the late Amanda King; predeceased by her son Roland; survived by his wife Barb and their children Kimberly and her husband Kevin Ryckman and Jamie. Fanny was Great-Grandmother of Zachary and Kyle. She will be missed by her sister Eileen Mucha; predeceased by Elsie, Bernice, Jim and Archie. Fanny was an avid card player and enjoyed her time at Activity Haven and Mapleridge Seniors Centre. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 7-8:30 pm and Wednesday beginning at 9:30 am at COMSTOCK FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 356 Rubidge Street. EVANSON , Frank Michael January 5, 1917 - April 29, 2009 Frank Evanson of Calgary, AB, passed away on April 29, 2009 at the age of 92 years. Frank was born on January 5, 1917 in Smokey Lake, AB. He worked on the family ranch for many years, obtaining his grade six education in Kingman, AB. Frank operated a trap line and later received his barbers certificate in Edmonton. Frank served his country with the RCAF, overseas in England, perfecting his chosen barbering profession. Upon returning to Canada, Frank established the Petroleum Building Barber Shop, in downtown Calgary which he operated for over thirty-five years retiring in 1980. He married Catherine Windle in 1956 and they resided in Meadowlark Park for many years. Frank's greatest passion was to meet new clients, and discuss world events. He also enjoyed dancing to the sounds of the Big Band Era, as well as to go hunting game birds. Frank was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion (Horton Road) and loved to be in the company of his family and friends. Frank is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Michele Evanson and John MacRobbie; son Jim Evanson; grandchildren, Jamie and Michael Wallace, Megan and Iain MacRobbie; two brothers Walter and Bill; three sisters, Ann, Olga and Cassie as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine. SAVAGE , Georgia Jean (nee Bullock) August 7, 1928 - May 1, 2009 Georgia Jean Savage, beloved wife of Alfred of Calgary, has left us after a very short illness, to be in the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on Friday, May 1, 2009 at the age of 80 years. Besides her loving husband of fifty-seven years, Alfred, Georgia leaves behind her five children; Michael (Dawn), Eric (Sonya), Reggie (Wayne), Carrie (Len), LJ (Donna); nine wonderful grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her two sisters, Marylou (Ron) and Nancy and her many close, numerous friends. Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. ELSTON, Dorothy Irma - Peacefully at the Kingston General Hospital on May 3, 2009, from an abdominal aneurysm. Dorothy was in her 79th year and was born and raised in Brandon, Manitoba. Beloved wife of Clay Elston, and loving mother of son Robert Elston (Kym), daughter Laura Elston, and grandchildren Jennifer and Clarke Elston. Dorothy is survived by sisters, Shirley Mitchell (Walter) of Edmonton, Alberta, Anna Wall, and Fran Mitchell-Milne of Brandon, Manitoba, and many cousins, nieces and nephews in Western Canada and the U.S. Dorothy was predeceased by her brother Jack Roberts and her sister Florence Daniels of Edmonton, Alberta. Since her arrival in Kingston in the mid - 1950s with her husband Clay, who joined the newly formed Du Pont Research Centre, Dorothy played a very active role in a wide range of community activities. Advancing senior years, three hip operations and a spinal column injury slowed her down, but Dorothy continued to be as active as her health would permit. In addition to her ongoing love for family and friends, her love of gardening was one that she continued to enjoy despite physical challenges. She developed one of Kingston's most extensive peony gardens. Throughout her life, Dorothy maintained her profound love of music. In her younger years, she was blessed with a well-trained and beautiful coloratura soprano voice. Soprano soloist at Sydenham United Church for a number of years, she often appeared as Guest Soloist with the Kingston Symphony and other music events. In the mid-1960s she formed the Gadabouts Senior Citizens Choir, personally making costumes for the forty choir members. During the next decade the choir made two cross-Canada trips, performing for audiences from Victoria, B.C., to the Maritimes and Newfoundland. In 1975 the Choir travelled to England and Wales, performing at hospitals and seniors centres. A review of past issues of the Kingston Whig-Standard over this period reveals scores of news items and pictures, featuring Dorothy's far-reaching community involvement. Visitation will be held at the JAMES REID FUNERAL HOME (1900 John Counter Boulevard), on Wednesday, May 6, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, followed by a Memorial Service at the same location at 2 pm on May 7. MARTELL , Christina (Ina) (nee Brown) Christina Martell, aged 89, passed away gently at the Eau Claire Retirement Residence, where she lived for a brief period of time at the end of her life. Ina was born in Calgary in 1919 and lived on the north hill for most of her life. She was a gentle, loving and deeply spiritual person. Although shy and reserved, Ina was liked by all who knew her because of her warmth, gentle demeanor and surprising sense of humour. She loved cats. Ina was married to John Martell for twenty-five years up until the time of his death in 1977. Ina is survived by her sister Mina Shaw (nee Brown) and the two sisters were a constant source of love and support for each other throughout their lives. Ina had no children of her own but played an important and loving role in the lives of her nieces and nephews, Cindy Shaw (Nason), Colleen Novak (nee Shaw) deceased, Brent and Gregg Shaw. She will always be remembered by them. Ina will also be remembered with love by her small and intimate circle of friends with whom she shared a deep spiritual bond and love of God. Christina's family wishes to thank the staff at the Eau Claire who provided her with constant loving and respectful care up until the end. We all thank her faithful friend Alice VanDyke who stood by Ina's side during the difficult times. A private Service with family and close friends will be held at a later date. EVANS , Thomas "Jason" Thomas "Jason" Evans passed away suddenly at the Foothills Hospital on Monday, April 27, 2009 at the age of 38 years. Beloved husband of Nichola and loving father to his two angels Payton and Paisley. Jason will be sadly missed by his parents Tom and Patti; sister Zoe, her son Foxx of Calgary and brother Josh of Costa Rica. Jason will also be missed by in-laws Waltho family and Levesque family, as wellas many friends. Jason's grandmother Margaret Evans followed him in passing on April 29, 2009. He was born and raised in Calgary where he attended school with his final two years at Notre Dame College in Wilcox, SK. Jason's entrepreneurial spirit lead to his successful businesses in construction, mortgage and real estate in both Canada and the U.S. He will always be remembered for his huge heart, generosity, kindness and his larger than life presence and love for his family. EVANS, J. Alan On Thursday, April 30, 2009, of lung cancer at the age of 83. Beloved husband of Noreen (nee Cornish) for 58 years. Caring and supportive father of Pat, Larry and Elaine, and father-in-law of Robert, Sharyn, and Chris. Devoted "Papa" of Laura, Matthew, Emily, Jonathan, and Joshua. Alan was born in Toronto and attended Lawrence Park Collegiate. Upon graduation he attended the University of Toronto, completing a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering in 1948. Bell Canada hired Alan, transferring him to Montreal in 1954. The family lived in Beloeil, Quebec, where he and Noreen made many wonderful lifelong friendships. When Bell transferred them to Ottawa in 1968, they fell in love with the city and new friendships were forged. When Alan took early retirement at age 58, he was then able to pursue his passions full-time. Love of the outdoors, birding, photography, painting, biking, singing (University of Ottawa and Centennial Choirs), attending concerts, genealogy and cross-country skiing continued to keep Alan and Noreen busy until the past year. Regular trips to the cabin on Big Rideau Lake nurtured his soul. He also loved words and until close to the end of his life easily outscored most in Scrabble. He was an activist by nature, and wrote often to politicians concerning issues close to his heart. We will miss him. A celebration of Alan's life will be held at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 315 McLeod St. on Saturday, May 9, 2009. Visitation will be held from 1:30 pm with a service at 3:00 pm. A reception will follow. BENNER , (nee Curnew) Jorun "Eugene" It is with sadness that the family of Eugene Benner announces her passing. She passed away peacefully on April 30, 2009 after a brief illness at the age of 92 years. Eugene will be lovingly remembered by her children Bill (Susan), Roberta (Phil), George (Brenda), and Glenda (Vic); her grandchildren Chris (Nerin), Matthew and Jean-Pierre "JP". Eugene is survived by her sister Ruth Eastman and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, William Arthur Curnew and by her second husband Elmer Benner. Eugene was born May 2, 1916 in Lemberg, Saskatchewan but was raised in New Westminster, BC. She moved to Calgary in 1955, and it was here that she and Bill raised their family. CARR, Joseph 1928 - 2009 Joe passed away peacefully at home on May 1st following a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend Bev, his children Dave (Roberta), Lorraine (Mike), David, Jo-Anne (Larry) and Lynda (Jose), Lorne (Andrea) and by his grandchildren Paul, Sarah, Jessica and Dyllon. BERMACK , Jack February 10, 1927 - May 1, 2009 Jack Bermack, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away on Friday, May 1, 2009, at the Foothills Medical Centre, after a long, brave and valiant battle with a very rare tumour, at the age of 82 years. Jack was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the youngest of five children. He grew up in Winnipeg and moved to Calgary with Warner Bros. in 1948, where he met his bride to be. Jack settled in Calgary, but then work took him and his family to Winnipeg for a few years. Upon their return to Calgary, Jack changed careers and joined the life insurance business. Never shying away from some new challenges, in his later years he went back and qualified in general insurance and he spent twenty-five years with Perma Insurance. His passion for friends, family, hockey, and curling endured right to the end. Jack's infectious warmth and bright smile will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by Sheila, his dear wife of fifty-nine years; his three children, Nadene (Jay), Cheryl (Aaron), and Francine; along with his grandchildren whom he cherished, Stephen (Janice), Aaron, Ben and Emily. Jack was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Esther; his sisters, Myrna and Ann; his brother Jimmy; and his granddaughter Tamara. She was born on a ranch in Cayley, Alberta on March 30, 1920, and spent her life in Calgary. MAURSTAD , Henry May 30, 1912 - May 1, 2009 Henry Maurstad of Strathmore, Alberta, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2009 at the Strathmore District Health Services, Continuous Care Facility. Henry (son of Mathias and Petra) was predeceased by Dorothy May Godding (August 1992), his wife of fifty years, one brother Oluf and five sisters, Mary, Lena, Annie, Ida and Grace. Henry is survived by sons James (Marianne) of Calabogie, Ontario, and Gary (Shirley) of Wellington, Ontario; grandchildren Pamela (Jean-Pierre), David (Lisa) and Kent (Lauren) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Garrett (Laura) of Ottawa, and Tamara (Kenny) of Oshawa, Ontario; great-grandchildren Ethan, Amy, Rowan, Jack, Isaiah and Mikayla. Henry was born in Willow City, North Dakota, in May 1912, and came with his family to farm at Nobleford, Alberta, in 1921. Henry met Dorothy in 1939 while both were working for Mr. VanBibber in the Beynon, Alberta area. They were married March 15, 1941. They resided in Calgary (Bowness) and Sundre, Alberta, before moving to the Strathmore District in 1954. Henry worked for the Calgary Rolling Mills, the CPR and Pallison Dairies in Calgary before homesteading in the Sundre area in 1946. He worked road construction and ploughing for the County and was also a partner in a saw and planning mill operation. In the Strathmore area, Henry was employed by local farmers Dave Parker, Alex Peterson of Namaka and Andy Thompson of Stobart. Before retiring in 1979, Henry worked for Les Tiede at the Strathmore Seed Cleaning Plant. In retirement Henry enjoyed curling, Senior Centre activities, travelling and visiting family. FEE, Garry Norman Air Traffic Controller (Retired) After a brief battle with cancer on Saturday, May 2nd 2009, aged 89. Eunice (nee Allen), Garry's wife and constant companion of 65 years was the light of his life and was by his side. Father of Garry (Sandy) Fee. Stuart, his grandson, who so valued their close relationship. Grandfather to Alison and great-grandfather of Kaelin and Abbey. Predeceased by his brother, Harvey (Jean) of Montreal. Garry served as part of the RCAF Ferry Command and was immensely proud of his career as an Air Traffic Controller at Dorval and Ottawa. Garry's inquiring mind, attention to detail, and sense of humour never diminished. He will be sorely missed yet lovingly remembered by Barbara, Garry, Kate, Steph, Jeff, John, and Randy.
