AVIS DE DÉCÈS ANDRÉ LEITCH C'est avec énormément de regret que la famille d'André Leitch annonce son décès, survenu le 30 avril 2009, au Centre Élisabeth-Bruyère, à l'âge de 58 ans. Fils de feu Dr Leonard C. Leitch et Yolande (Laperrière) Leitch, il laisse dans le deuil sa soeur et son beau-frère: Diane et Charles Ponée, ainsi que ses tantes et cousin(e)s et de nombreux amis. Nous tenons à remercier le personnel des soins palliatifs de l'hôpital Élisabeth-Bruyère, où André a oeuvré en tant que bénévole pendant sept ans, et qui à leur tour, lui ont démontré toute leur reconnaissance durant ses dernières heures. Nous remercions aussi le personnel du Centre de cancérologie de l'Hôpital d'Ottawa, et des campus général et civic pour leur dévouement et leurs bons soins. À la demande d'André, il n'y aura pas de service commémoratif ni de visites. Il sera inhumé au cimetière Notre-Dame. He is predeceased by his parents, Dr. Leonard C. Leitch and Yolande (Laperriere) Leitch. He will be deeply missed by his sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Charles Ponee, his aunts and cousins and the many neighbours and friends with whom he exchanged so many kindnesses. The family is grateful to the staff and volunteers of the Elisabeth-Bruyere palliative care unit where Andre volunteered for seven years, who returned their appreciation in so many ways during his brief stay as a patient. Many thanks to the staff of the Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre and the General and Civic Campuses, as well as to the nurses of We Care. At the deceased's request there will be no visitation or commemorative ceremony. A family service will take place at the time of interment at Notre Dame Cemetery. INGBER, Fania At Hillel Lodge on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at the age of 87. Beloved and devoted wife of Wolfe Ingber z"l. Loving mother of Rachel and Howard Schachter of Ottawa and Abie Ingber of Cincinnati. Loving Bubba to Davida and Josh Schachter; Avital, Dorit, Tamar and Arielle Ingber. Fania was born in Lutsk, Polland and came to Montreal in 1948 as a survivor of the Shoah. She lived in Montreal, worked in accounting for a major corporation, and raised her family devoted to the Jewish faith and to the community. Fania was the last survivor of the ghetto in Lutsk, prior to its liquidation. Her greatest joy came from spending time with and cooking for her six grandchildren. In 2001, following a massive stroke, she moved to Ottawa where she touched the lives of so many people. She was "Bubba" to all who knew her. The family would like to thank the staff of Hillel Lodge, and especially on 2 West and 3 West for their caring love and respect. Fania had two special angels at her side, who cared for her - Patty Guthrie and Emilse Tesillo. We are honoured to include you as part of our family. Funeral service will take place at 12 noon on Sunday, May 3rd, at the Jewish Memorial Gardens, Osgoode. Shiva will be observed for three evenings at her daughter's home. AGNOT, Angeline 2009-05-02 The family sadly announces the sudden and unexpected passing of their much loved mother, sister, grandmother, and aunt on Thursday, April 30, 2009 in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, with her son and daughter by her side. Angie was born February 1, 1926 in the Croation village of Zlobin to Max and Iuka Ruzick. With her parents, she emigrated to Canada and Port Arthur in May, 1930. Mom met the love of her life, Walter and they married September 15, 1946. They had two children, Tannia and Rodney. They shared 44 years of marriage until Walter‘s death in 1991. During the war years, Angie worked at Canada Car making airplane parts. She also worked at Sears in the Catalogue Department for 25 years until her retirement. Angie was a kind-hearted person willing to help anyone in need. She volunteered at the 55 Plus Centre, member of The Women of the Moose, and was a tireless worker in both organizations. Her efforts were rewarded with achievement awards such as “International Co-worker of the year 2002-2003”,Volunteer co-worker of the year 2005-2006” to mention a few. She was looking forward to attending The Women of the Moose convention in Chicago this May where she was to receive her cap and gown, another achievement of her volunteer efforts and dedicated service. Angie was an excellent cook and well known for her family dinners. No one every left hungry. She had enjoyed bowling, loved to play cards with family and friends, and liked an occasional trip to the casino. She also liked to travel. Angie recently returned from Winnipeg after spending ten days at Easter with her family. We are thankful she had that time to spend with her son, daughter, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Angie is survived by her daughter Tannia Agnot-Johnston (Doug); son Rodney Agnot (Gerri) of Winnipeg; sister Eva Romanoff (Don) of Thunder Bay; brother-in-law Zladko Uzelac (Croatia); grandchildren: Neil and Trevor Agnot, Charlene Trudel (Jamie); and great-grandchildren: Jaylene and Kylee, all of Winnipeg. Several nieces and nephews also survive in Canada and Croatia. She was predeceased by husband Walter; father Max Ruzick; mother Iuka Lulic; and sister Frances Uzelac. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5th in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Rev. Ed Long. In conjunction with the Funeral Service, The Women of the Moose will conduct their Service of Tribute. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Reception to follow at the Moose Hall, 434 Fort William Road. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the time of Service. COLLETT, Jewel Vivian (nee Smith) 25 Year Employee of the Limestone District School Board Jewel Collett, daughter of Irven and Janet Smith (nee Gaylord) was born in Kingston, ON on March 15, 1948, passed away suddenly in Harrowsmith, ON on March 20, 2009. Jewel attended Sharpton Public School, Elginburg Public School, Oak Flats Public School and Sydenham High School with her siblings Richard Smith, Nancy Lajoie, Wanda Babcock and Brad Smith. In 1966 she married Steve Collett, her beloved husband of 43 years. They had 3 children, Tim, Tanya and an infant son Kelly, who predeceased her. She was the cherished Nana of 3 grandchildren, Timothy, Trevor and Terra. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who filled her days doing whatever she could for her family to make their lives better. She always put her children first before anything else. She was an extraordinary mother who would go to any length to give her children what they wanted. She was an exceptional cook. She always made more food than was needed. Holiday dinners included several choices of pie and of course the traditional Rice Casserole. After several years of trying she succeeded in getting her daughter-in-law Janet to like it. She was still working on her son-in-law Pat. Jewel was a hard working woman. She worked at Woolco and Canadian Tire. She obtained her Bus license and in 1968 started driving for Smith Bus Lines and Kerr Bus Lines from 1979-1990. She also drove many bus trips for her son Tim's hockey team. In 1980 she decided to continue her education where she attended Sydenham High School as a mature student. During this time she worked as a Co-op student in the office at Harrowsmith Public School. Jewel discovered she liked children and they liked her. When an opening in the Kindergarten became available she was their first choice. In 1989 while working full time Jewel attended night classes at St. Lawrence College in the Early Childhood Education program. She achieved perfection in everything she did. She graduated with honours in 1995. Jewel started working for the Limestone District School Board in December of 1984. She worked at Harrowsmith, Elginburg, Prince Charles, and Frontenac Public School. She made many friends, many life long friends. Jewel worked for several years in the Resource Centre at Harrowsmith and Prince Charles Public School. She was able to work with the children she loved and use her office skills choosing, ordering and organizing all of the books she so enjoyed. Before her untimely death she was in the process of having the Harrowsmith Resource Centre named after a fellow colleague and friend, the late Audrey Handforth, who had also worked for many years at Harrowsmith Public School. In a very touching tribute the Harrowsmith Public School Library Renewal Committee has chosen to name the Resource Centre “The Audrey Handforth and Jewel Collett Memorial Library“. We're sure Jewel is in heaven, sitting in her rocking chair, holding her son Kelly and beloved dog Foxy. 11495804

McLEAN, Donald Henry 2009-05-02 Mr. Donald Henry McLean, age 88 years, resident of Thunder Bay Interim Long Term Care, passed away peacefully at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on April 30th, 2009. Born on June 4th, 1920 in Conmee Township, he was raised and educated in Fort William and attended Francis Street School and Selkirk High School. Donald was employed as a Fire Fighter - Platoon Chief with the Thunder Bay Fire Department and retired in 1980 after 34 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and family and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #6 and the Thunder Bay Fire Fighter‘s Association. Surviving are his wife Nora E. McLean, children James (Pam) McLean, Doug (Sandra) McLean, William (Nancy) McLean and Heather (Stan) Randle, grandchildren Rebecca McLean, Donald McLean, Tracey McLean, Kevin McLean, Doug McLean, Sharon McLean, Jason Randle and Travis Randle. He was predeceased by his son Donald (Carol) McLean and grandson Will McLean. Cremation has taken place and according to his wishes, no service will be held. COMEAU, Claire - 1961-2009 Après un long et courageux combat de 10 ans contre la sclérose latérale amyotrophique (SLA), le 29 avril 2009, est décédée madame Claire Comeau, à l'âge de 47 ans, demeurant à Magog, autrefois Stanstead. Elle laisse dans le deuil sa fille unique adorée Jenifer, qui a toujours très bien pris soin de sa mère. Ses deux soeurs qu'elle chérissait tant, Sylvie (Bruno Dion) et Jeanne (Onil Caron); ses frères ainsi que son voisin et ami René Turcotte, qui lui fut d'une précieuse aide au cours des dernières années. À la demande de la famille, il n'y aura pas d'exposition. Outre sa mère, Mme St-Laurent laisse dans le deuil ses filles Lynda Gosselin (Benoît Godin), Karine Gosselin (Mathieu Jolin). Grandfather of James, Devon, Rusheen, Shyun, Shameen, Neelufar (predeceased), Justin, Johenna, Chantay, Taydra, Frankie, Chandler and Jazlyn. Son–in-law of Lillian and the late Milton Wood. Brother of Lewis (Shirley) Riley, Sheldon MacKenzie and Marguerite (Carson) Hayman. Predeceased by his parents, Hazel and Frank Riley Sr., two brothers and one sister. Born on June 12, 1935, to the late Claude Hogan and Hazel (nee Harper) Hogan O’Brien of the Maplewood Manor, Alberton. Loving mother to Lori (Bruce) Johnston of Charlottetown, Douglas (Patsy) of Anglo Tignish, Dawn Gaudet (Norm MacNeill) of Ottawa, Dean (Heck) of York, Traci Gaudet (Mark Plant) of Summerside, Taylor (Krista) of Tignish. Loving grandmother to Braden, Kyle, Katie, Geena, Alex, Sarah, Laura, Evan and Logan. Great-grandmother to Gracie.
