AGNOT, Angeline 2009-05-02 The family sadly announces the sudden and unexpected passing of their much loved mother, sister, grandmother, and aunt on Thursday, April 30, 2009 in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, with her son and daughter by her side. Angie was born February 1, 1926 in the Croation village of Zlobin to Max and Iuka Ruzick. With her parents, she emigrated to Canada and Port Arthur in May, 1930. Mom met the love of her life, Walter and they married September 15, 1946. They had two children, Tannia and Rodney. They shared 44 years of marriage until Walter‘s death in 1991. During the war years, Angie worked at Canada Car making airplane parts. She also worked at Sears in the Catalogue Department for 25 years until her retirement. Angie was a kind-hearted person willing to help anyone in need. She volunteered at the 55 Plus Centre, member of The Women of the Moose, and was a tireless worker in both organizations. Her efforts were rewarded with achievement awards such as “International Co-worker of the year 2002-2003”,Volunteer co-worker of the year 2005-2006” to mention a few. She was looking forward to attending The Women of the Moose convention in Chicago this May where she was to receive her cap and gown, another achievement of her volunteer efforts and dedicated service. Angie was an excellent cook and well known for her family dinners. No one every left hungry. She had enjoyed bowling, loved to play cards with family and friends, and liked an occasional trip to the casino. She also liked to travel. Angie recently returned from Winnipeg after spending ten days at Easter with her family. We are thankful she had that time to spend with her son, daughter, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Angie is survived by her daughter Tannia Agnot-Johnston (Doug); son Rodney Agnot (Gerri) of Winnipeg; sister Eva Romanoff (Don) of Thunder Bay; brother-in-law Zladko Uzelac (Croatia); grandchildren: Neil and Trevor Agnot, Charlene Trudel (Jamie); and great-grandchildren: Jaylene and Kylee, all of Winnipeg. Several nieces and nephews also survive in Canada and Croatia. She was predeceased by husband Walter; father Max Ruzick; mother Iuka Lulic; and sister Frances Uzelac. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5th in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Rev. Ed Long. In conjunction with the Funeral Service, The Women of the Moose will conduct their Service of Tribute. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Reception to follow at the Moose Hall, 434 Fort William Road. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the time of Service. BIRDSEY, Sydney Cecil Cook - It is with much sadness and relief that the family of Syd Birdsey announce his passing. Unbeknownst to us, he succumbed to his challenge on May 22nd, 2008 and his soul is now with Reta under the willow tree in the St. Davids United Church cemetery. PATTERSON, James E. - With a forest fire approaching the little town of Hornepayne, Ontario, James E. Patterson was born on June 15, 1932, the second son to Harvey and Ida Patterson. Jim leaves to mourn his wife of 55 years, Sheena; his sons John (Ellen) of Lansdowne, Robert (Joy) of St. Catharines, as well as his much loved grandchildren Andy Jr., Julie (Ian), Craig, Heather, Scott and his first great- grandchild Sophia Patterson; also survived by his brother Bob (Myrna) of St. Catharines and his sister Judy Taylor of Hamilton. Jim was predeceased by his eldest son Andy (1980) and his brother Murray (2005). Jim was an adherent of Westminster United Church, Scout Master of the 3rd St. Catharines Group and made a most believable Santa for the Sunday School. He began his working years with Bell Canada, but quickly changed to follow in his father's footsteps to become a butcher and meat cutter, he changed careers again in the early 80's to become a Concrete Salesman, which was the job he truly loved, working at Transit Mix, Peninsula Ready Mix and retiring from Clem's Ready Mix in 1996. Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman, teaching his sons through a series of adventures and misadventures to enjoy the great outdoors. His direct approach to life and good humour will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the staff from Henley House and Dr. Hartman for their kindness, support and caring. BARANYI, Margaret Rose - It is with great sadness, that we the family of Margaret 'Maggie' Baranyi, announce her passing on April 10th, 2009, at 61 years of age, far too soon. Maggie was the daughter of the late Ernie Fulford and Isabella McIntyre Fulford. Also predeceased by her late husband John Baranyi. She was a dedicated employee of Niagara Clifton Group. Maggie is survived by her sisters June White, Sylvia Ross and brother Ted Terry, she is also survived by her siblings spouses and many nieces and nephews. BYGGDIN, Joyce - Passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Olds, Alberta on Monday, April 13, 2009 in her 89th year. Beloved wife of Ralph for 68 years; loving mother of Donna (Bill) Souster, Lois (Brian) Cooke, Rhonda (Elgin Eddy) Byggdin, and Vern (Sandra) Byggdin; cherished grandmother of eleven and great grandmother of seven. She will also be remembered by her nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sisters Ruth Creswell, Freda Bulpit and brothers Frank, George and Charlie Stanier and her parents George and Louisa Stanier of England. Joyce was born in Glen Orchard, Ontario on February 15, 1921. She met Ralph Byggdin while attending Lorne Park College. They were married January 22, 1941 and moved west to begin a pastoral ministry with the Free Methodist Church. Joyce was happy to return to Ontario for the last 11 years of their 36-year ministry. She worked in various public sector administrative support positions in addition to her role as a pastor's wife. Joyce loved to crochet, knit, sew, and could often be found at her easel painting beautiful portraits and landscapes. OBITUARY FREDERICK C. WARREN It is with great sadness that we announce the passing, on April 20, 2009, of Fred after a valiant battle. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Lillian, after sixty-five years of a wonderful and loving relationship, and his son Kenneth. He son, Fred Jr. (Bumpy), predeceased him. Fred lived a life of caring and devotion. During his career, he served in the Canadian Army from 1941-54, and he worked in industry for many years. His greatest satisfaction was singing and playing his guitar for the residents at the Institute for the Blind and other residences. Both he and his wife raised funds for muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis. He and Lillian swam in national competitions way into their eighties though the D.D.O. Master's Program. His love for children was boundless, especially Annik and Lincoln, to whom he was known as "Grandpapa". The staff as the Montreal General Hospital and Bussey's deserve much credit for their devotion and care for Fred during his last few months. Donations in his memory and honour could be sent to the Montreal Children's Hospital if you wish. May Fred's loving nature be an inspiration for all of us who have had the privilege of knowing him. ALLEN, Ronald H. - Passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on Monday April 27, 2009, after a lovely supper with his family in his 83rd year. Ronald emigrated to Canada in 1957, from London, England, first to Burwash, Ontario for 17 years and then to Brantford where he lived the remainder of his life. He was a passionate man, a pillar of strength to his family and devoted friend to many. Never one to say no to a good beer, game of darts or cards, he was also an active member of the local YMCA and voracious reader. Ronald is predeceased by his son Robert, his brother Fred and his sister Joan. Beloved and devoted husband to Stella, his wife of 58 years, Ronald is also survived by his brother Anthony, sister Brenda and children Tony (Eileen), Teresa (Keith), Scott (Marilyn), Jody (Deanne) and nine grandchildren. KRULICKI, Norma Elia - October 31, 1930 - April 28, 2009. We regret to announce the passing of longtime Hope resident Norma Krulicki (nee Logan) on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 in the hope Hospice unit of Fraser Valley Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Beamsville, Lincoln County, Ontario, Norma was predeceased by her two oldest sons Alan and Bryan (Carrie). Daughters Pam and Karen are very grateful they were able to be close to her in Ottawa in the last few years of her life, even though that meant leaving the home and friends in Halifax that meant so much to her. Sally will be happy to be reunited with her always-devoted husband Gordon, who was born and raised in Ottawa before moving to Halifax. Many thanks to the staff at Hillel Lodge, who added so much to the final years of her life. The funeral was held in Halifax on April 30, 2009. Later volunteered in children's and mental health organizations. Supporter of women's and pacifist causes. Friend to many, avid reader, poetry lover. Combined kindness with a strong practical sense. MORIN, William Harrold December 31, 1930 - April 28, 2009 William (Bill) Morin, beloved husband of 59 years of Diane (nee Villeneuve), passed away peacefully in Calgary, AB on Tuesday, April 28th, 2009 at the age of 78. Bill was born in Carrying Place, Ontario and educated in Brockville and Ottawa. He served in the Navy from 1947 to 1949 and in 1950 he began work with the CNR as a yard brakeman. He would finish his distinguished career forty years later as Group Vice-President. Among his many achievements with CN were his negotiations of the CNR-Via operating agreements which contributed to the creation of Via Rail, as well as the very successful divestiture of the companies' non-rail assets in the late 1980's. Apart from his work life Bill was a caring son, husband, father and grandfather. He remained devoted to the welfare of his parents, Victor Morin and Agnes Humble, throughout their lives. He took great interest in the lives of his sons and his grandchildren and enjoyed travelling with friends and family to a great number of interesting destinations. Bill will be remembered for his honest and unassuming manner, his dedication and work ethic at the CNR and his generosity and support of friends and family. Bill is survived by his wife Diane; sons, Brian (Heather Ogilvie) of Ste Adele, Quebec and Garry (Heather Smith) of Calgary, Alberta; six grandchildren, Chris, Kyle, Carling, Drew, Bradley, and Benjamin; brother Melville of Ottawa, Ontario; two sisters, Venetta of Brockville, Ontario and Arlene (Wayne) Young of Smiths Falls, Ontario. He will also be deeply missed by dear aunt Mrs. J. Humble; and cousins, Phil and Paddy Humble of Victoria, British Columbia; as well as many nieces and nephews, lifelong friends and colleagues. He was predeceased by his brothers, Richard and Joseph of Brockville, Ontario, and sister Edna McFerran of Ottawa, Ontario. THAYER, Florence - Passed away peacefully at the North Bay General Hospital on Thursday, April 30th, 2009 after a short battle with cancer, at the age of 52. Florence is predeceased by her parents Jack and Elsie Thayer, a brother Ray, and two sisters Diana and Lacy.
