Mrs. Ruth Emily Leslie October 12, 1922 - April 27, 2009 Halifax, passed away on April 27, 2009, in Northwood Centre. Born on October 12, 1922, in Grand Desert, she was a daughter of Mary Jane and Elias Conrod. She was a woman of great faith, loved bowling, crocheting, crafts and going to "T.O.P.S." with her friends. She also enjoyed spending time with her family. Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Arnold; brothers, Reg, Wallace, Bertram, Clyde, Roy, Cameron, Warren; sisters, Roxy, Dora and Lucy. She will be missed by her sister, Lottie (Canning); her children, Linda (Rick), Winnipeg; Jessie (Mark), Lower Sackville; Marilyn (David), Fredericton and David (Rose), New Minas. She is also survived by five grandchildren and one great-grandson. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 29, from 12-2 p.m. with funeral service to follow at 2 p.m., all in Atlantic Funeral Home. 125 Sackville Dr. Interment will be in Oakridge Memorial Gardens, Lower Sackville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northwood Foundation, the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of your choice. Many thanks are extended to the staff of 2C, Northwood Centre for their kindness, warmth and care during Mom's time at Northwood.

Mr. J. Leandre " Leon" Cormier February 10, 1930 - April 27, 2009 J. Leandre “Leon” Cormier of Shediac passed away at the Villa Providence on April 27th, 2009. Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late Alyre and Nelida Cormier. Leon retired as an air traffic controller, he loved to travel and was a well known musician, having played in many bands throughout New Brunswick. He is survived by his first wife Stella Cormier (Gould), daughters; Gisele Goguen, Claire Robichaud (Norbert), son Charles Cormier (Monique), sisters; Gloria Cormier, Rosela Melanson (Norman), Lucielle Robichaud (Felicien), Angela Trueman (Bernie Plumber), brothers; Gerald Cormier (Leontine), Clarence Cormier (Gloria), Emery Cormier (Susan Skerry), step-daughter Anne Duplessie and grandchildren; Christopher, Paul, Alec, Michelle and Martin. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his son Dr. Jean Guy Cormier and his second wife Doris Cormier (Duplessie). Visitation will be held at Fair Haven Funeral Home on Thursday, April 30th, from 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held in the chapel of Fair Haven Funeral Home on Friday, May 1st, 2009 at 11:00 AM with Father Paul Breau officiating. A reception will be held following the service. Interment in Saint Joseph RC Church Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stoke Foundation of New Brunswick. Mrs. Beatrice Margaret Sauliner September 21, 1914 - April 28, 2009 SAULNIER, Beatrice Margaret Halifax, passed away Tuesday April 28, 2009, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Cape St. Mary, Digby Co., she was a daughter of the late Dosithe and Josephine (LeBlanc) Doucette. She was a teacher for a number of years in Saulnierville Station. After her marriage she later moved to Halifax with her husband and then worked with Simpson Sears. Later adopting Diane, Beatrice became a home maker, looking after her family was her primary role. She is survived by daughter, Diane (Tom) Collins, Halifax; grandchildren, Stephen and Lyndsay; several nieces and nephews. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and encouragement to take on each day to the age of 94. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Felix; eight brothers, and three sisters. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., where visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today. QUINN, Theresa Victoria - It is with great sadness that the family of Theresa Quinn announces her ‘going home’ on Tuesday, April 28, 2009. We are grateful for the blessed, certain knowledge that she is now enjoying her well-deserved eternal reward. Theresa was born on May 24, 1915 to Peter and Cassie (McDonell) Nolan on the Track Road, Cornwall. She was the youngest daughter and is survived by her brother – Lloyd (Dorothy) of Stroudsburg, PA and by her brother-in-law Gene Schoenfelder. She was predeceased by her sisters Irene, Kathleen and Mary and her brothers, Bernie, Johnnie, Albert, Donald and James. In 1937 she married Alfred Quinn (1913-1999) and during their 62 years they were the proud parents of Pat (Jean) of Lunenburg, Anne (1939-1945), Mary MacDonald of St. Andrew’s, Frank (Karen) and Nolan (Cathy) of Cornwall, Kathleen (Bob Charlebois) and Norma (Bryan Barker) of Long Sault and Colleen (Bob Jordan) of Brockville. Theresa hosted countless family gatherings and memorable occasions – for their 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and recently became a great-great-grandmother. She is survived by her sisters-in-law Margie and her husband Lloyd Rousseau of Cornwall, Shirley Quinn of St. Andrew’s and brother-in-law James Harrison formerly of MacMillan’s Corners. She was predeceased by Alfred’s parents Frank Quinn and Annie Maloney, brothers-in-law Maynard (Annabelle) and Ernie and by sisters-in-law Irene (Dunc) Fraser, Kathleen (Howard) McDonald, Inez (James Harrison), Teresa and Frances. As well she is predeceased by her great-granddaughter Carrie Lauzon, son-in-law Donald V. MacDonald and his infant son Craig. Theresa leaves as a legacy a lifetime of volunteering as a dedicated community and church supporter. She was a Life Member of the C.W.L., having served as President of St. Andrew’s Council and was also a Charter member in its formation. As well she served as Diocesan President and on Diocesan Council for many years. She was a long time volunteer with Heart and Stroke and was an Area Captain for 12 years. She served on the Boards of the Cornwall Township Historical Society, Mount Carmel House and Pro-Life. She was a member of the Women’s Institute, a Girl Guide Leader, a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and the Cancer Society and helped provide entertainment for St. Andrew’s Seniors. For her service to others, she was recognized as Senior of the Year (Cornwall Township) in 1994 and also received a commemorative medal in 1993. Her keen wit and intelligence shines through in her collected poems. She became an accomplished artist in her retirement and these paintings will be treasured by her family. The past 5 years, Maxville Manor has been her home. STEWART, Ellen Park - Passed away peacefully at Cassellholme, on Wednesday, April 29, 2009. Ellen was the beloved daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth Stewart; she was 93 years old. Dearly loved sister of Jean (Mrs. Nick Magus) of Almonte. She was predeceased by her siblings Robert, Isabel Dyker and Inez Luckhurst. Lovingly remembered by her 6 nieces and nephews Heather Gardner, Elizabeth Cuddy, Isabel Murray, Nicole Kempton, Richard Luckhurst and Robert Stewart. Ms. Stewart was the Head Secretary at the West Ferris Secondary School for 22 years, retiring in 1980. Ellen was an active and proud volunteer with the North Bay General Hospital, for many years. She was a member of the choir at Trinity United Church for over 50 years and a member of the Canadian Club. Cremation at the Forest Lawn Cemetery and Crematorium. MAHONEY, Ernest Lorne March 29, 1931 - April 28, 2009 Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal, 2002 Past President Gatineau Valley Historical Society Ernie was born in Ottawa and he passed away peacefully in hospital, in Hull, Quebec on Tuesday, April 28, 2009, after a short illness. Ernie was predeceased by his parents, Edward Godfrey Mahoney and Freeda Ernestine Mahoney (Larocque) and previous wife Eileen Anne Withers (Traynor). His partner, Deborah McLachlan, was a companion on Ernie's journey for many years. He will be forever missed by the families he linked together: first wife Heather Mahoney (Ottawa), mother of Robert Mahoney (Tracey Sliter, Ottawa); second wife Helen Brennan (California); Eileen's children Sarah (Keith Bennett, Toronto) and Adam Mahoney (Kendra Hurshman, Windsor, NS); and grand-children Dylan, Garrett, Connor and Sharlea Mahoney in Ottawa. He will be deeply missed by William and Phyllis McLachlan, Jan and Jon Purcell, Devon and Julianne. He attended the University of London School of Economics. He worked for the Canadian Construction Association as a senior staff member. He was the Intergovernmental Officer for the City of Ottawa and Queen's Park. His true career path blossomed as a journalist at the Low Down To Hull and Back News and the West Quebec Post. He cared deeply about his community of Wakefield and about Canada. Miss Stella "Zap" Zaporozan April 3, 1927 - April 27, 2009 82 years passed away peacefully after many challenges over the years on April 27, 2009 at Windsor Regional Hospital, Metropolitan Campus. Survived by her beloved sister Lena Prestanski, Windsor and "Sweetie". Predeceased by parents Anna and Stephen Zaporozan, brother John and his wife Anne, and brother-in-law John Prestanski. Dear "Auntie Stella" of Dennis, Cathy, Carole, Bill and Steve and their families. Stella was a highly regarded nurse for many years, having graduated from Grace Hospital 60 years ago. In true "Zap" fashion, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date. If desired, memorial donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Kidney Foundation would be appreciated. The death of the late Dr. Charles McCammon Allan occurred on April 24, 2009 at the Moncton Hospital at the age of 81. Born in Montreal, Quebec, he was the only son of the late James and Margaret (McCammon) Allan. Charles earned his undergraduate degree in science, his medical training and a subsequent Masters in Science from McGill University. While at medical school (Class of '52), his academic achievements were recognized by the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Society, the only national medical society in the world. He was a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS). He completed his residency at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, prior to training in vascular surgery. He received further clinical training at the Montreal General Hospital, the Montreal Childrens' Hospital and the Royal Infirmary in Preston, England. Charles practiced vascular and general surgery at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Montreal until his move in 1983 to Miramichi, NB where he continued his surgical practice until his full retirement in 2005. Upon his retirement he moved to Sackville, NB. Charles was an avid reader with wide and varied interests. He was a life long learner, with an unsurpassable quest for knowledge that sustained him throughout his lifetime. He was a talented and prolific painter and loved to share his work with family and friends. He enjoyed working with wood, initially in large construction, then more recently with beautiful heirloom dollhouses and model ships. He enjoyed the many visits from his family, and his friends and colleagues from the Miramichi and beyond during his retirement years. Born in North Bay July 2nd,1948, he was predeceased by his parents Emile and Phyllis (Comeau) Thibeault and sister Lydia Sylvestre. Dear brother of Evelyn Auger (Maurice), North Bay; Joann Falconi (Hubert), Victoria, British Columbia; Julia Ouellette (Tom), North Bay; Peter (Christine), Sudbury; Phillippe (Joanne), Sault Ste Marie; and Jean (Monique), Lachine, Quebec. He is also survived by his Aunt Evelyn Ferguson, Guelph and his Uncle Conrad (Renee)Thibeault, St Jean sur Richelieu, Quebec, his cousin Eric McMillan (Susan) Guelph, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, cousins and other extended family. Paul had a passion for machinery and tools that kept him busy all his life. He had an artist's soul, designing and crafting everything from wrought iron decorations, a unique three wheeled motorcycle, a metal fireplace for our parent's cottage to a home in Muskoka. His favourite reading was Ellery Queen and technical manuals. Paul was always there to lend a helping hand to his friends and family.We would like to thank his many caring friends in the Muskoka area for the support you showed him over the last few years. LAMARCHE, Angela Merici (nee Scott) Passed away peacefully on April 22, 2009 at the Pickering Community Nursing Home in Pickering, Ontario. Angela was born on May 30, 1930 in Chester, England. She was predeceased by her brothers Bill and Terry; her sisters Kathleen and Madeleine. In her late teens she went hostelling across Europe with her sister Kathleen. For her next adventure Angela moved to Toronto, Ontario in her early 20's and became a Canadian citizen. While employed at Avro Arrow she met and married her one true love R. Marc Lamarche, an Avro Arrow engineer. They raised their family in Nepean, Ontario. Her baby daughter Madeleine predeceased Angela in 1964. Her husband Marc passed away January 26, 1999 in Orleans, Ontario. Angela's past volunteer work in Nepean and Ottawa included Girl Guides, canvassing for March of Dimes, washing dishes after church events and helping out at Red Cross blood donor clinics. Angela is sadly missed by her sister Josephine Guido, her daughter Cathy Bathurst (husband Charlie Bathurst), her daughter Louise (Angela's grandchildren Laura and Mark), many nieces and nephews and the staff of her nursing home. Many thanks to the staff of Pickering Community Nursing Home for their care of Angela during the past 2 years and especially for their care and compassion during this difficult time. BREWER , Matthew "Matt" Ryan 1983 - 2009 With great sadness, the family of Matthew Ryan Brewer announce his sudden passing into the Lord's care on April 25, 2009. Born in Colorado, Matt moved to Calgary in 1991 with his family, graduated from E.P. Scarlett High School and SAIT and ultimately became a Journeyman technician. Matt loved his job at Centaur Subaru, the only employer he had ever worked for since his early days as an apprentice. He credits his good friend Trevor, a fellow mechanic and mentor for his success. In 2008, Matt became the very proud owner of his own house. He enjoyed his free time golfing with his long-time best friend Ryan and his brother Cory. Matt was such an integral part of a close-knit family and group of friends and was always willing and able to provide his help when needed. Quiet, unassuming, steady, and thoughtful are traits that all had come to know him by. He will be missed tremendously. Matt was predeceased by his brother Justin Sinclair Brewer, grandparents Ann and James Russell, Grampa Brewer and Uncle Jim Russell. Daniel George White was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, friend and teammate. Danny was born August 7th, 1963 in Birch Hills Hospital and raised on the family farm east of Prince Albert in the Steep Creek area. Danny was a man of many talents who loved his family and took immense pride in his work. He loved entertaining and many have enjoyed his cooking and bar-b-queuing. Leanne and Danny’s backyard sanctuary is a place of manicured beauty and hosted countless days and evenings of fun with friends and family. An athlete and a sport fan, Danny loved hockey, playing ball and golfing. Managing and playing for the Blues hockey team was a great pleasure for Danny. The effort and care he put into the Blues made being part of that team a great honour. Hockey at the Jemini was a social event for all the Blues and Danny brought everyone together. Danny put his unique touch on everything he did. He was a true kid at heart. Known for his quick wit and ready smile, he thrived on teasing his family and friends, who all secretly enjoyed being the subject of his attention. A loyal and dedicated employee, Danny thrived in his career with Federated Co-op and truly enjoyed his work. Prior to that, he spent many great years with J.M. Schneider Inc. Danny faced any problems head on with a positive attitude and unmatched motivation. Socially, Danny could walk into a room full of strangers and leave with a room full of friends. People just surrounded themselves around him. He was truly a unique and amazing man. Mrs. Dorothy Evelyn Weston April 25, 1921 - April 27, 2009 WESTON, Dorothy Evelyn 88, of Halifax, passed away peacefully Monday, April 27, 2009, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, with her loving family by her side. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Ethel (MacDonald) Brunt. A faithful member of Bayers Road United Baptist Church, she was active in various church groups and a past member of West End United Baptist Church and also an active supporter of the Salvation Army. She volunteered at the old Halifax Infirmary and various other organizations. Women for Music of the Nova Scotia Symphony was also very important to her. A loving mother, grandmother and friend, she will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Surviving are sons, Kenneth "Ken" (Margaret) Weston, Everett "Harold" Weston, both of Halifax; brothers, Roy (Dorothy) Brunt, Edward (Phyllis) Brunt, both of Halifax; grandchildren, Tara (Dwayne) Isenor, Halifax; Holly Weston, Chicago; Cory Weston, Halifax; great-grandchild, Noah Isenor, Halifax. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband of 51 years, Everett Weston; son, Brian in infancy and brother, Harold. Jackie was predeceased by her parents Germaine and Dominique Monette. Jackie and Allen moved to Saskatoon in 1955. She worked at the Saskatoon Club for 23 years. Jackie loved family get togethers. She enjoyed gardening, knitting and reading romance novels. Jackie was an Avid Roughrider fan. There will be a viewing on Sunday, May 3rd, 2009 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th street turn right before railway tracks). Mrs. Bonnie "Gail" MacLean January 29, 1945 - April 28, 2009 64, of Dartmouth, passed away April 28, 2009, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Truro, January 29, 1945, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Linda (Fraser) Crowe (of Belmont). She was a member of Belmont Wesley United Church. Gail was an educator all her life, teacher, principal and administrator, retiring from the Inspection Services of the Department of Education in 1996. After her retirement, Gail set up an education program in Iqaluit. She was an avid reader and served as a judge on the Dartmouth Library Literary Award Committee and was a member of a local bookclub. She was interested in politics and was a member of the Liberal Party. Gail and Ralph enjoyed traveling the world until recently when her health declined. Gail is sadly missed by her husband, Ralph, Dartmouth; sister, Cheryl Crowe, Truro and several cousins. She will be missed by her beloved pets, Guy and Rhapsody. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. today in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. A celebration of Gail's life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 2, in Atlantic Funeral Home Chapel, Dartmouth.
