Joan Elinor Foster, Charlottetown At home with her family on Monday, April 27, 2009, Joan Elinor Foster, loving wife of Miles Foster and caring mother of Jeff and Phyllis Foster and Leanna and Paul Ravenhill, went to spend eternity with her Lord in Glory. Beloved grandmother of Sarah J., Samantha, William and Thomas. She will forever be remembered for the lessons she taught. Sister to Nadine, Dawnie, Mary and Elda and predeceased by her parents Allegra and Eldon McKay. Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home, Charlottetown, from where the funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Interment in Sherwood Cemetery. Louisa Arseneau - C’est avec une grande tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de notre mère Louisa Arseneau, épouse de feu Edmond B. Arseneau (1996). Elle est décédée entourée de sa famille, à l’Hôpital de Tracadie-Sheila, le mardi 28 avril 2009, à l’âge de 90 ans. Elle demeurait à la Résidence Sonier, mais autrefois à Tilley Road. Née le 26 mars 1919, elle était fille de feu Liboire Arseneau et de feu Annie Arseneau. Elle laisse dans le deuil cinq filles: Laura (Albert Benoit) de Saint-Jean, Noëlla (Alvin Hall), Bertha (Clifford Hall) et Raymonde (Fernand Arseneau), toutes de Gauvreau et Linda (Vincent Gautreau) de Saint-Jean; cinq fils: Cliff (Jacqueline) de Pointe-à-Tom, Claude (Murielle) de Hacheyville, Clarence (Alphonsine) et Bernard (Yvette), tous deux de Tilley Road et Jos avec qui elle demeurait; un frère, Ludger (feu Médora) de Sudbury; un beau-frère, Roméo McGraw (feu Lydia) de Petit-Tracadie; une belle-soeur, Ida (feu Edgar Arseneau) de Montréal; 21 petits-enfants, 22 arrière-petits-enfants et 2 arrière-arrière-petits-enfants, ainsi que plusieurs neveux, nièces, cousins et cousines. Elle était la soeur de feu Hervé Desmarais, Joseph-Aimé Desmarais. The Honourable Dr. Orville Howard Phillips, DDS, Ottawa at O'Leary , Prince Edward Island , Canada Peacefully at Ottawa, Ontario, on April 24, 2009, in his 86th year and with his family at his side. Born in O’Leary, Prince Edward Island, the son of the late J.S. and Maude (MacArthur) Phillips. Orville joined the RCAF during the Second World War and served with the 426 Thunderbird Squadron. Upon his return he married Marguerite (nee Woodside) in 1945. Orville graduated from Prince of Wales College and then Dalhousie University in 1952 with his dental degree. He won the prize for children’s dentistry at his graduation. He practiced dentistry in Alberton, P.E.I., Summerside, P.E.I., and Ottawa, ON. Orville was first elected to the House of Commons in 1957 and was re-elected in 1958 and 1962 and served until 1963. In 1963, he was called to The Senate of Canada where he served until retirement in 1999. Loving father of Brian (Bonnie) of Calgary, AB, Betty Phillips-Simpson (John) of Grande Prairie, AB, Robert (Wendy) of Oakville, ON, Patricia Ryan (Gerald) of Ottawa, ON. Loving grandfather to Michael and David Phillips, Andrew, Stewart and Derek Simpson, Christian and Sarah Phillips, Nicholas and Sean Ryan. Brother to Ray (Gertrude) Phillips of Sussex, N.B. His dearly beloved wife, Marguerite, predeceased him in 2004. He was also predeceased by brothers, Vernon, Ernest, Wyman, Brenton, Erland and Sanford; and sisters, Lillian, Ivy and Flora. Survived by sisters-in-law, Pansy Phillips, Thelma Phillips, Doris Phillips, Anne Phillips and Marian Darrach. Mrs. Evelyn C. Hayward December 30, 1930 - April 24, 2009 Hayward, Evelyn C. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Evelyn Carolyn (Earle) Hayward announces her passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on April 24, 2009 after a period of failing health. Born in Saint John she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Evelyn (Merrick) Earle. Mrs. Hayward was a resident of Saint John West all of her life. She worked at the K Mart in the Lancaster Mall for a number of years where she made many friends. In her younger years she enjoyed playing ball, and in her later years it was a delight for her to watch her nieces and nephews being active in sports. In addition to her husband Colin, she is survived by a sister Carmelita (Alvin) McKinley, brother Leslie (Elaine) Earle, brother-in-law Harry Sullivan. She was also a special aunt to her nieces and nephews Wanda (Bob) Belliveau, Brenda, and Karen Sullivan, nephews Daryl and Jeffrey Earle, several great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Helen Sullivan, nephew Derrick McKinley, and great nephew Brandon McKinkley. DEEVY, Russell William With a deep sense of loss we announce the passing of Russell William Deevy peacefully in his daughter's home surrounded by loving family on Friday, April 24, 2009 in his 86th year. Russell, a longtime member of the Loyal Orange Lodge #489 Stittsville, was born in Ottawa on February 23rd, 1924. He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife of 29 years, Margaret (nee McMullen) in 1983, and his son Barry (Wendy) in 1997. He leaves behind: his sons and daughters: Kenneth, Fay (Paul Engels), Brent (Louise), Bill (Terri), Judy (Greg Dartnell), Nancy (Steven Frost) and Thomas; and his 13 grandchildren, Jason, Lyndsey and Adam (Deevy), Will, Jamie and Charlie (Engles), Spencer and Cody (Deevy), Jacob and Samantha (Deevy) and Russell, Holly and Grace (Frost), his sisters Ethel (John) Monahan, Elva (George) Greene, Shirley (James) Grant; and his loving companion Ann Wiggins. Russell will be remembered fondly by friends and family just as he remembered those who pre-deceased him. The farm that he worked on all of his life along with his father William, mother Mary (Cathcart) and sisters can be found in the heart of Bridlewood near Eagleson Road. The farm and a nearby park that was dedicated in 2001 as "Deevy Pines" stands as a testament to Russell's dedication to his family and the community in which he lived. ERICKSON, Alvin Paul (R.C.A.F. Ret'd) August 1, 1923 - April 25, 2009 WWII Veteran Peacefully on Saturday, April 25th, 2009 at the Ottawa General Hospital, in his 86th year, with family at his side. Born in Kelliher, Saskatchewan, the son of the late Erick and Agnes (Larson) Erickson. Beloved husband of the late Sarah McAuley (1996). Alvin (known to many as Al) enlisted in the RCAF in 1941 and was attached to 283 (RAF) Squadron in Hal Far, Malta during WWII. He continued his military service after the war, retiring in 1975. Loving father of Myrna (Donald Thomas), Sandra (Patrick Hall), Lynda (Ronald Gagnon), Brian, Alvin (Patty Pilon), Eric "Rick" (Janice Moore), Sally (deceased 2002), (Ronald Whitford), Deborah (Steve Sleigh), and Dwayne (Diane Sadler). Cherished grandfather to 19 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Also survived by his cherished sister Alma O'Steen and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brothers Peter, Alfred, and Arthur and sisters Agda and Gladys. Alvin enjoyed golfing, fishing, baseball and was an avid fan of the Detroit Red Wings. He will be forever remembered by his great passion for life and laughter. VALLIERES, Dona May On Saturday, April 25th 2009, saw the passing of Dona May Vallieres (Fitzpatrick), 59 in her Ottawa home, surrounded by her loving family. Dona will be remembered by many for her irrepressible passion for life, for her deep love of her family and friends, her charm, her sense of humour, and the joy she brought to the lives of others. Throughout her career Dona held several senior positions in Communications and Media Relations, in both the federal public service and in the private sector. When diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer, Dona became an avid activist as she raised community awareness, generously sharing the challenges of her fight. Dona is survived by her parents Stuart and Dorothy Vallieres of Montreal, Brother Dave Vallieres (Mary), her 4 Nephews (Rob, Mike, Chris, Pat) and her three sons, Gilles (Patricia) France, Nino and Andrew (Tarja). Her spirit will remain with us as she continues her journey. MYSHYNIUK , Orest November 27, 1932 - April 24, 2009 Orest Myshyniuk, beloved husband of Lovie of Calgary, passed away at home, surrounded by the love of his family, on Friday, April 24, 2009 at the age of 76. Orest was born in Derwent, Alberta, to Ann and Nick Myshyniuk and was the youngest of sixteen children. He will be remembered as a hard worker and a top salesman, who had the drive to succeed. He was always just a phone call away if anyone needed a good listener. Orest and Lovie enjoyed trips to Hawaii every fall with their son Ron and his family, trips to San Diego to visit with their son Larry and grandson Artie, and their little get-a-ways to Kalispell, Montana. Orest enjoyed having family over for big Ukrainian dinners, and if anyone wanted to come over and help with his jigsaw puzzle they were always welcome. Besides his loving wife of fifty-five years, Orest is survived by his children: Larry, Lorraine (Gord), Ron (Miki), Susan and Wendy; grandchildren: Steven, Jason, Ron, Artie, Lisa, Anna and Nina; and his brothers George and Paul. WILKIE , Maureen Theresa (nee Swenson) 1951 - 2009 Maureen went to be with her Lord on April 25, 2009 at Peter Lougheed Hospital, Calgary, Alberta, following a lengthy fight with diabetes at the age of 57. Maureen was born to Oscar and Stephanie Swenson in Trochu, Alberta on December 11, 1951. Her career included a lengthy time with the CPR Railway and many faithful years of service at the Catholic Dioceses of Saskatoon and Calgary. Maureen is survived by her loving husband Wayne Wilkie; her daughter Genevieve Hoeksma; granddaughter, Samone Hoeksma-Reitz; grandsons Rowan Loshney and Raven Hoeksma. She is also survived by her brothers Lane Swenson (Gail) of Calgary, Alberta, Don Swenson (Angela) of Calgary, Alberta and Ray Swenson (June) of Westbank, B.C., along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Maureen leaves behind a great legacy of Faith, Hope and Love, the greatest of these being Love. She loved much and was loved in return. Maureen also had an abiding hope and was full of Faith which she shared with all those she came in contact. The words of Paul of Tarsus serve as a fitting eulogy: Maureen had fought the good fight, she finished the course. She kept the faith and there is laid up for her a crown of righteousness which the Lord has awarded her on this day.
