LaFORME, Richard A. - Suddenly at the Brantford General Hospital, after a short bout with cancer. Richard LaForme age 67 years, passed away at 8:30 pm Sunday night, April 26, 2009. He leaves behind his wife Janice (Reid) LaForme, mother Frances (Doll) LaForme, sisters Fay (Gillis) Marcotte, Hamilton, Gail (Keith) McQueen, Nova Scotia, brothers Tom, Wilbur, Rodney & Greg of Hamilton, sons Richard Jr. (Cathy), Eddie (Susan) New Credit, Brad (Nycki) Ohsweken, Jeff (Becky) Ohsweken, Paul (Laurie) Florida, daughters Rhonda B.C., Shelley, Six Nations, predeceased by his father William “Dick“ LaForme and brother Kim, also survived by several grandchildren and nieces & nephews. DEFORGE, Raymond Joseph - On April 25, 2009 at the Hamilton General Hospital, after a brief illness and courageous battle. Beloved husband, father and best friend to Lynn and Kyle. Dear son of Celina and the the late Laurio Deforge. Loving brother of Rose (Tom Kircos), Elaine (Grant Dubien), Lawrance (Sharon), Robert (Wendy), Daniel (Michelle) and Richard. Sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews. Raymond was a long term employee of Chrysler Canada. EASTON, Gwendoline Josephine - Passed away peacefully on April 14th., 2009 at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital, Saanichton, B.C. (Vancouver Island), after suffering from cancer over the last three years. Gwen is survived by her husband Walter, her son Errol (Linda) Francis and grand daughter Laura, son Donald Francis, her daughters Anne Ruttan and Cilla (Dennis) Bennett as well as stepson Robert (Joanne) Easton and stepdaughter Lois (Bill) Tryan. She is also survived by her youngest brother Edwin Marks (India), three nephews and a niece and was predeceased by siblings Dolly and Leo. Gwen was born in India and immigrated to Canada in 1976 where she met Walter, whom she married in 1982 in Belleville. Walter and Gwen enjoyed spending the Canadian winters away in warmer climes of the USA and Mexico. She loved to travel, visit her children in Canada and the UK and had a special passion for cooking. She was outgoing and made friends easily wherever she went and will be sorely missed and remembered with much love and affection by her family and friends. A Prayer Service will be held at BURKE FUNERAL HOME, 150 Church St. Belleville on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at 1 pm. followed by refreshments. DUBOIS, Gratien Frère M.S.A. - 1934-2009 Est décédé au CHSLD des Deux-Rives à Repentigny, le 25 avril 2009, à l'âge de 74 ans, Frère Gratien Dubois, M.S.A. Né le 3 novembre 1934, à St-Édouard (Cté Maskinongé), Québec. Il était le fils de feu Annette Doucet et de feu Hervé Dubois. Membre de la Société des Missionnaires des Saints-Apôtres depuis le 15 août 1957, il débute à l'Archevêché de Montréal comme réceptionniste pendant neuf ans puis au Collège St-Jean-Vianney au service des retraites, de l'imprimerie et du secrétariat pendant 17 ans. Il est aussi réceptionniste au Séminaire des Saints-Apôtres, Côte Ste-Catherine à Laprairie durant 1 an. Il collabore également à la paroisse de St-Gabriel de Brandon durant 15 ans. Il demeure à la Maison de Pierre durant les treize dernières années. Outre sa famille religieuse, il laisse dans le deuil ses cousins et cousines et des amis. Elle était la mère du Père Jean-Guy Labrecque, Jean-Claude Labrecque conjoint de Claude Grenier, Yvon Labrecque époux de Ledys Guerra Ramos et de Marie-Claire Labrecque épouse d’André Turcotte. Elle était la grand-maman de Laurent, Maxime, Andréanne, Valérie, Philippe, Naomi, et de Charles. Elle laisse également ses beaux-frères et belles-soeurs des familles Jacques et Labrecque ainis que ses neveux et nièces, autres parents et amies. Le service religieux a été célébré en l’église Notre-Dame-de-la Présentation de Thetford Mines. HOOVER, Timothy Patrick - Tim passed away at the Kingston General Hospital, in his 20th year, on Sunday, April 26, 2009, following a brave and determined battle with cancer. He leaves behind his mom Ulla, dad Jim, sister Melanie, step-dads Jeff and Harry, as well as his grandmothers, aunts, uncles and their families. Tim's family extends sincere appreciation to the staff at KGH, especially those on Connell 10 and the ICU, for their excellent care and friendship. Tim thought highly of you all. OWEN, Franklin John “Jack“ - Thursday, April 23, 2009 in his 80th year. Jack was born on June 11, 1929 in Cornwall, Ontario. He was the eldest son of the late William Edward Owen and Pauline Estella (nee: Thompson). Loving father of Lance of Vancouver, Mark (Ester Paulich) of Toronto, Dorian of Victoria and Valerie (Jim Klaver) of Yarker. Dear brother of Patricia Wilson (Royce “Bud“) of Kingston, Gloria McNeil (late Steve) of Belleville, Dolores Brooks (late Johnny) of Elginburg, Jerry Owen of California, Garth Owen (Rose) of Bath, Wayne Owen (Carol Greenberg) of Coquitlam, BC and Gary Owen (Mary Woods) of Roblin. Jack was a longtime employee of Celanese Canada at Millhaven and also worked for Bechtel on the Syncrude oilsands project in Alberta. Jack will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, family and friends. An graveside service will be held at the Cataraqui Cemetary at 1:30pm on Thursday April 30, 2009. Mr. Brian Scott Forward July 26, 1963 - April 24, 2009 45, of Bedford, passed away in Dartmouth General Hospital on April 24th, 2009, after a brief battle with cancer. Born on July 26th, 1963, in New Glasgow, he was a son of George Forward, Trenton and Lillian (Phalen) O'Hearn (Mick), Halifax. After graduating from high school in Trenton, Brian moved to Halifax where he began his career in the Hospitality Industry. Most recent Brian was General Manager of the Holiday Inn Express in Halifax, and the former Assistant General Manager at Park Place Ramada Hotel & Conference Centre, Burnside. He began his career at the Lord Nelson Hotel & Suites, Halifax. Brian was an avid golfer and loved spending time outdoors, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Lori (Pennell); daughters, Ashley and Emily; sister, Janice Koehoorn (John MacMillan), New Glasgow; father-in-law, Larry Pennell, Newfoundland; sisters-in-law, Bev Piercey (Lawrence), Newfoundland; Debbie Hamel (Roger), Calgary, Alta.; Kaye Matheson (Rob), Toronto; Karen Pennell (Tom Grant), Dartmouth; brother-in-law, Larry Pennell Jr. (Denise), Elmsdale; nieces and nephews, Nancy, Kelly, Jamie, Ken, Joshua, Devon, Jerrod, Daniel, Bailey, Isaac. GALLE, Nicolina (Rosso) 2009-04-28 It is with profound sadness that the family announces that Nicolina (Rosso) Galle, age 97, of John Street, passed away peacefully in the T.B.R.H.S.C. on Sunday April 26, 2009 with her family by her side. Nicolina was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was born in Simbario, Catanzaro, Italy on April 17, 1912. She married Francesco Galle in 1939 and they were married for over 55 years until his passing in 1995. Nicolina immigrated to Canada in April of 1959 and along with her husband and family built Frank’s Grocery, operating it for over 50 years. She was a member of St. Anthony’s R.C. Church, the Catholic Women’s League and the Ladies of the Italian Society of Port Arthur. Nicolina’s main interests were her family, church, business and gardening. She was the centre of her family which included her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Everyone was welcome at her home and could feel free to drop in anytime. Nicolina was a very generous and giving person to anyone who crossed her path. She was a very religious person, with God and her church being very important to her. Nicolina will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her sons and daughters: Paul (Rita) Galle, Luigi Galle, Mary Connie (Angelo) Marino, and Guiseppina (Bruno) Papa; grandchildren: Frank (Leila) Galle, Nicolina (Adrian) Vatamanelu, Peter (Cathy) Galle, Enzo (Tracy) Galle, Frank (Hanh) Marino, Tony (Jessica) Marino, Julie (John) Tsekouras, Josie (Carlo) Fragomeni, Angelo (Sarah) Papa, Frank (Cherie) Papa; 18 great grandchildren and one on the way. SACCHETTI, Eugenio 2009-04-28 Mr. Eugenio Sacchetti, age 81 years, passed away peacefully at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Saturday April 25, 2009 with family by his side. Eugenio was born on January 23, 1928 in Castelli Teramo, Italy. As the eldest of seven children he was often counted upon to help with the daily farming chores and caring of his younger brothers and sisters. As a young man, he was called to serve in the Italian military where he was trained as a parachutist. Later he moved to Switzerland where he worked in the farmlands for several years. He always had many fond stories to tell of his younger years. In search of a better life, Eugenio immigrated to Canada in 1957 and settled in Port Arthur, Ontario. His future wife Maria followed shortly afterwards, and they were married in 1960. Eugenio was a hard and dedicated worker, always wanting the best for his family and friends. Over the years he gained employment in the forestry and contracting industries, and in 1988 he retired from Manitoba Pool 3 Grain Elevators after 22 years of service. Eugenio was a lifelong member of St. Anthony‘s Roman Catholic Church and the Italian Mutual Benefit Society of Port Arthur. He took great pride in his homemade wine and sausages, and was especially fond of his garden. Here he would spend countless summer hours, growing and nurturing his vegetables, later sharing them with family and friends. Eugenio will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Survived by his loving wife Maria, son Domenic (Bruna), his only grandson Andrew who held a special place in his heart, his brothers and sisters; Attilio (Maria) Sacchetti, Desiderata Sacchetti, Ermando (Eva) Sacchetti, Maria Sacchetti, Iolanda (Antonio) D‘Angelo, Eva (Salvatore) Sanzo, along with numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. Predeceased by his father Domenico, mother Costanza, and brothers-in-law Attilio Igari and Gabriele DiMarco. The Sacchetti family would like to extend their warmest gratitude and appreciation to the doctors, nurses, staff of Bathammi, family and friends who helped and cared for Eugenio during his illness. MERCER, Victor George - Singer of songs, dreamer of dreams, man of great faith, Victor George Mercer slipped into the waiting arms of his Lord on April 25, 2009 at 3:50 in the afternoon. Surrounded with love by his family, George moved on in his next great journey with the same characteristics that defined him in life - with faith, courage, acceptance and humour. George lived endeavouring to emulate the life of his greatest Teacher, Jesus Christ. It was his passion and mission to share his faith by example. Born into humble beginnings in St. John's, Nfld., George, touched everyone who knew him. He lived a full life, serving in the army in World War II, followed by a long career that he loved as a Bus Driver for the Toronto Transit Commission. George was the Sunday School Superintendent at the Church of the Transfiguration in Toronto for 25 years, wrote and staged community plays, served actively in the Bequia Mission in the Caribbean for 7 years, and assisted as a lay minister at Christ Church in Windermere and St. Barnabas Church in Peterborough for over 25 years. Survived by the love of his life, Doris, his children Gail (Mike), Tom (Suzanne) and Dianne (Matt), his grandchildren Stephen, Daniel, Scott, Benjamin, Sean and Henry, his nephews Paul (Brenda), David (Kathy) and their children Jenny and Bobby as well as Ellen and Janice. There are so many other special people in George's life we would like to name here, but you know who you are. BROWN, James Karn (J.K.) - 1920-2009 - With his family by his side James Karn Brown of Trent River entered into rest on Monday, April 27, 2009. He was in his 90th year. Jim was predeceased by his parents Thomas James Brown and Frances (Birdie) Pearl Malcolm. He is survived by his oldest brother Malcolm (Jiggs) and his youngest sister Glenna. Predeceased by brothers Jay, George, and Jack and sisters Margaret, Helen, Vaughan and Jeryne. Jim will be missed by his family and friends and especially by Craig and Kari Dart and their sons Karn and Isaac. Also survived by several other nieces and nephews. COOP , Ruth Austin 1924 - 2009 With deep sadness we announce the passing of Ruth Austin Coop (nee Spaulding) at age 85 at Crofton Manor, Vancouver, on Thursday, April 23, 2009, after a long illness. Ruth is survived by her beloved sister Joan Goodall (Toronto) and family; two daughters Elsbeth and Jane (Vancouver); son Stephen (Red Deer) and granddaughters Beth (Vancouver) and Caitlin (Red Deer). She was predeceased by her husband James Fielding Coop in 1996. Ruth was born and raised in Shediac, New Brunswick, attended Mount Allison University and married in Toronto in 1944. The couple moved to Calgary in 1952 and led a rich life in Elbow Park, enhanced by many friends. Ruth was a devoted volunteer at the Holy Cross and Rockyview Hospitals (as an infant cuddler), St. Stephen's Anglican Church and Christ Church in Calgary. We remember our mother for her witty, vibrant personality, her incredible courage and her loving nature. The family wishes to express thanks for the wonderful care and support that Ruth received from the medical community in Calgary and Vancouver, and for the sustenance given by the ministry of the Anglican Church. CHENOWETH, Clare (nee Buck) - July 26, 1919 - April 28, 2009. Clare passed away peacefully at Providence Manor in Kingston in her 90th year. She finally joins the love of her life, husband David, who predeceased her in 1968. On her own, Clare successfully raised five teenage boys into contributing citizens of the world. Sadly also predeceasing her were eldest sons David Jr. (age 57) and Richard (age 55). Clare is survived by sons Brian (Suzanne), Christopher and John, and grandchildren Sophie and Caroline, Joshua and Jordan, Andrew and Allison. Cherished by wonderful daughters-in-law Gaylanne Phelan (Richard) and Suzanne Maranda. Fondly remembered by sister Lynn (Gordie) and brother John (Heather). Missed very much by all the Bears of Toronto, Collingwood and Kingston. Clare proudly served Canada at the rank of Lieutenant in the Women's Royal Canadian Enlisted Navy (Wren's) during WWII. Married in 1947, Clare and David produced their five boys in Montreal and Toronto between 1949 and 1955, a formidable accomplishment. Clare was the Commander on the home front, proudly supporting David Sr. in his extraordinary career, as he reached President of Pepsi- Cola Canada and then President of Molson's Brewery. The Montreal Children's Hospital emergency room knew Mrs. Chenoweth and most of her sons by name. The Royal Victoria Hospital knew Clare as a force to be reckoned with, as she saved her husband's life on several occasions. Clare was the guiding influence behind her five boys attaining eleven university degrees. Life is a journey and a circle. Clare journeyed relatively far and as her circle closes, her fondest memories include the homes she made in Westmount, Morin Heights, Cove Cay, Oakville, Guelph and finally in Kingston. Summers at Lake Anne were her heaven (and literally that for the woodpecker and groundhog she did in with her 22). Many thanks to family, friends, neighbours and bridge partners throughout her journey, and please remember, it's always time for a tasty. To the many, many restaurant employees across the continent who over the years took kindly to this little lady asking to know all about their lives and sharing hers, we salute and thank you. Clare and her family also wish to thank the Molson Company and Family for all the consideration extended to her after losing her David so long ago. Her last years were spent happily at Briargate Retirement Centre, being visited by her family; she always encouraged her loving grand - daughters to be good - but not too good. Her last days were spent in loving, superb care by the staff of Providence Manor in Kingston. There are angels all around us. In tribute to Clare's memory, please donate to the charity of your choice, and hug a senior. To toast Clare's life and spirit, please bring a loved one to visit either or both of Kingston's wonderful restaurants Le Chien Noir and Chez Piggy.
