SMITH, Gertrude Anne (nee Massey) - Peacefully at the Retirement Home of Portal Village on Monday April 6, 2009 at the age of 92 years. Beloved wife of the late W.H. George Smith (1995). Born in Pelham Township, she resided in Port Colborne for the remainder of her life. She was a life long member of the First Presbyterian Church. Besides her husband she was predeceased by her son Barry Smith, her grandson Michael Smith, her parents Frederick and Laura Massey, her brothers Howard Massey, Harold Massey and Alvin Massey. Gertrude is survived by her sons Richard Smith (Margaret) and Doug Smith (Mique), her daughter-in-law Mary Pat Smith, her grandchildren Aleasha Ann Clarke (Jason), Dan Smith (Beckie), Sandi Murray (Dave), Shelley Coles (Dave) and Chris Smith (Alicia), her great grandchildren Turner, Ella, Carson, Kiran and Haley, her sister Jean Christie (Wilf) and her brother Ron Massey. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation and cremation has taken place. THORNTON, Dorothy (Mrs. Richard) - On Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital. Dorothy Thornton age 84 years of Elmira, formerly of Burlington and Montreal. Beloved wife of the late Richard Thornton. Loving mother of Keith and Dawn Thornton of Elmira, Craig and Heather Thornton of North Bay and Gary (predeceased 1995). Also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Michael (Andrea), Brian, Bonnie (Stefan), Vicki and by her great grandchildren Christina, Katelyn and Nicholas, Owen and Aiden. Sister of Eileen Smith of Cambridge. Dorothy is fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews and their families and the Thornton family, in particular Rick and Maureen. In honouring Dorothy's wishes cremation will take place and there will be no funeral home visitation or funeral service. KELLY, Linette M. (nee Jullion) July 20, 1947 - April 7, 2009 In loving memory and forever in our hearts, our beautiful daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Linette left our world, at the age of 61 years, after a short illness, to be with her loving husband Dennis who predeceased her in April 2001. Linette was also predeceased by her father Alphonse (Tac) Jullion (1973) and her brother Blair (1972). Linette is survived by her loving mother, Marie; her beloved sisters, Jullie, Rose Marie (Joseph), Rejeanne, Carmelle, Louise; and Lisa. She is also survived by her niece Christine (Sebastian); nephews, Jason (Che), Brett, Jullien, Dexter, and Galen; and great-nieces, Averie, Sophie, Rhyse, and Llyra, and of course Linette's faithful dog, Kodi. Linette was born in North Battleford, SK, and moved to Calgary in the early 1970's. When she arrived in Calgary Linette met the love of her life, Dennis, and they settled down and called Calgary home. Most of Linette's working career was alongside of the late Mr. Scobey Hartley. Linette's last couple of years were dedicated to the Calgary Health Trust raising funds for the Southern Alberta Institute of Urology located at the Rockyview General Hospital. The Institute is now under construction thanks in part to the efforts of Linette. Linette had a love for life as she did for her many close friends. She is smiling down on all of us looking gorgeous in her color coordinated outfit. Her world was always filled with bright colors and she had one of the greatest smiles ready to brighten your day. Linette was extremely giving of her time, sitting on numerous boards and charitable committees. Her volunteering made a significant impact in the community, some of the many organizations she volunteered with were: PC Leadership - Calgary Elbow, Member of Alberta Disability Coalition, Member of Premier's Council for Disabilities, Member of Alberta Student's Finance Appeal Committee, The Calgary Homeless Foundation, Our Lady Queen of Peace Ranch, Alberta's Promise, Canadian Paraplegic Association, Christmas Dinner for the Homeless, the Premier's Annual Dinner Committee, FORK (Friends of Ralph Klein) Committee, just to name a few. BILECKY, Joseph John - Peacefully at The Village of Riverside Glen, Guelph Tuesday morning April 7, 2009 in his 88th year. “Joe”, as he was fondly known by all, of Sauble Beach formerly of Kitchener was predeceased by his best friend and wife, Sally and his brother Peter. He leaves behind his daughters Jo Ann Pearce and her husband Paul of Guelph, Debbie Bilecky of Sauble Beach and three grandchildren; Andrea and her husband Ron of Burlington, Marisa and her partner Eric of Innisfil and Darrell Pearce of Brampton. He is also survived by his sister Juliet Goodwin of Miami, Florida and nieces and nephews. Joe is best known as Sauble Beach's plumber extraordinaire. No clogged toilet or frozen pipe was too big for Joe to take on. Joe and Sally were natives of Kitchener- Waterloo but made a life for themselves in Sauble Beach and considered the beach to be their true home. Joe, a veteran of WWII, was also a long-time employee of Coca- Cola Bottling in Kitchener and was a staunch Coca-Cola loyalist; something he wishes he had imparted on youngest daughter Debbie, who prefers Pepsi. After permanently relocating to the beach in the 1970's, “Joe the Plumber” as many referred to him, began a new business venture, Joe Bilecky Plumbing Ltd., with his wife and business partner Sally, acting as reception, scheduling, accounts receivable and public relations. She was the brains and he was the brawn. Joe and Sally later became grandparents and had the privilege of spoiling Andrea, Marisa and Darrell much to their parent's complete and total approval. Joe was a super grandpa and only occasionally forgot to pick up Andrea at the bus stop after coming home from kindergarten and always had special Pizza Fridays with Marisa, which could account for why that was the only food she ate until she was 23. Grandpa Joe was also a master “Monster” player and scarred his grandchildren to the point of not being able to sleep alone. In later years, Grandpa was always there to joke and visit with, and to slip a twenty dollar bill in the girls' pockets - for you know, coffee or something. Joe's gentle, easy going nature will be missed by all and we will always hold our memories of him close to our hearts. Joe's family would like to express heart-felt thanks and gratitude to the nurses and support staff of Riverside Glen in Guelph who tended to Joe in the last years of his life with the highest degree of compassion and devotion. VIRTH, Geza “Gypsy“ - In Loving Memory of Geza “Gypsy“ Virth, 67 years, who passed away in Sudbury on Tuesday, April 7th, 2009. Born in Hungary, he had a long and proud career in mining, starting with Rio Algom, Dravo, MacIsaac Mining, Falconbridge Nickel Mine, Dennison Mines, Driftech, Procon (Greenland) to his current job as a hoistman at Cementation. Geza was a Member of the Valley East Lions Club, he was a passionate and successful coach in soccer and hockey, both in Elliott Lake and Sudbury. Geza was a kind and generous man with a large heart, always ready to help others. He was a graduate of the School of Life and a true learner. He was a man of ideas and could easily hold his own on any topic with anyone. He was a strong union man and lived his life to a high standard. Geza was a community man, never involved in politics, but always humble and down to earth, ready and willing to be involved with people at the coffee shop, grocery store, restaurant or pharmacy. When you look up in the dictionary the expression “Diamond in the Rough“, Geza's picture is there. He leaves behind his beloved wife Beverley, loving daughters Susan and Pam, Vanessa Kirk and Andre Duranleau. For many years he was a Ford Summitt Award Recipient. His relations with his clients was excellent. John may also be remembered for his interest in the Rotary Easter Seal Campaign. HAMELIN, Nelson Yvan Glorien 2009-04-08 Nelson Yvan Glorien Hamelin, age 21 years, of Shuniah, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2009 as a result of an accident. Nelson was the first born son of Ivan and Jo-Anne Hamelin and brother to Steven Hamelin. Born on December 15, 1987, he lived all of his life on Haugen Rd. in Shuniah. Nelson attended school at McKenzie Public School and then graduated from Hillcrest High School in 2002. Nelson was a lively spirit who was fun loving and spent many hours entertaining friends and relatives. Growing up he spent many hours doing tricks on his mountain bike and skate board. He loved sports, baseball, wrestling, curling, snowboarding, and was on the high school soccer and football team. Snowmobiling was his passion but only with his close buds. Many wonderful memories were spent camping, fishing and time spent at the family camp at Shebandowan. Nelson was a fan of racing events, big trucks and mud bogging. He won many awards including the Tech Award Scholarship. After high school, Nelson completed his Co-op at LTL Contracting and attained full time employment. He began attending Confederation College in the Civil Engineering Program, and took time off to work for Ledcor Pipeline with his brother Steven. While living the past two years out West, he continued to work hard, “live his life to his fullest!” Nelson will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his parents, Ivan and Jo-Anne, and his younger brother Steven; grandmother, Gisele Hamelin; aunts: Shirley DeWilde, Connie (Doug) Grenier- Burrows, Anna Grenier, Claude (Rachel) Hamelin, Susan and (Ron) East, Celine (Rene) DeLaurier, Denis and (Annabell) Hamelin; cousins: Bill DeWilde, Amy and Cory Grenier, Dave, Jason, Mathew Hamelin, Janet and Patrick East, Angie, Lynn, Natalie, Tiffany, Sylvie DeLaurier, Eric, Yves, Michael, and Carol Hamelin; special friend from Calgary, Meagan Blyth. Nelson is also survived by numerous friends, too many to mention.
