BARNES, Canon Walter - 84 years, of Petrolia, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at the C.E.E. Hospital of Bluewater Health, Petrolia. Canon Barnes was ordained at St. Paul's Cathedral in London on May 16, 1962, and served the Anglican Church of Canada in Essex, Cottam, New Hamburg, Trinity Anglican Church, Sarnia and in Algonac, Michigan. Canon Barnes is survived by his loving wife Marylen (nee Jones), his children, Rick Barnes of Stratford, Peter Barnes and Maureen Miller of Calgary, Barbara and Paul Vandervoort of Red Deer, AB, Winston Barnes of Sarnia, Debbie Barnes and Isobel Niddrie of Petrolia, and his grandchildren Robbie Barnes, Brett and Cori Vandervoort and Nicole Barnes. Walter will be missed by his brother, Robert (the late Helen) Barnes of Windsor. WATSON, Yvette (nee Lauzon) - Peacefully after a long battle with Cancer at Kingston General Hospital on March 17, 2009 in her 76th year. Predeceased by her loving husband William (1993). Survived by her sons Kim (Eilleen), Dan (Angela), and Micheal (Fiona). Cherished grandmother to 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by siblings Georgette and Laurette. BERUBÉ, Mason Eugene - On Friday March 13, 2009 Mason Berubé, his dad Jason and Mason's best friend Devon Tinus were on their way back from a London Knights game. In a tragic accident, Mason and Devon were taken from us all too soon, and on this day a part of all of us has gone with them. Mason Eugene Berubé is the son of Ghislain (Jason) Berubé of Chatham and Renee Berubé & Mark Massender of Blenheim. Mason was born in Chatham on May 5, 1996. He was a fun spirited boy whose interests included hockey, fishing, reading and spending time with his dog Hershey. He attended McNaughton Avenue Public School in Chatham. Mason is the dear brother of Denielle Berubé & Jeremy Bellamy of Edmonton, Vincent Berubé of London and Carson Mann of Blenheim and step brother of Kody and Kelsey Massender. He is an uncle to Preston Bellamy of Edmonton and the much loved grandson of Mary Anne Rumble of Chatham, Sandra Rumble of Erieau and Rejeanne Berubé of Quebec. Mason was predeceased by his grandfather Robert Rumble on February 26, 2009 and also by his grandfather Paul Berubé. He will be missed and forever loved by his aunts and uncles Michelle Rumble & Kathy Mondo of Thamesville, Lisa & Todd Edmondson of Blenheim, Mark Rumble of London, Jeannot & Heather Berubé of Chatham, Leo & Stacy Berubé and and Claude Berubé of Blenheim and by his aunts and uncles Ginette, Charlotte, Pauline and Diane & Camillien and Ghislaine & Gilles all of Quebec. JILDERDA, Mient (September 18,1922- March 20,2009) - Mient passed away peacefully, at dawn, surrounded by the love of his family. Beloved husband of Yttje Robijn. SZULECKI, Maria - Passed away on Friday March 20, 2009 at the Welland General Hospital at the age of 88 years. She is survived by her loving daughter Teresa Picton (Brian). Loving grandmother of David Picton (Kathy) and Kris Tessier (Bernie). Proud great grandmother of Sara, Madalyn, Megan and Natalie. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Poland. She was predeceased by her husband Anthony Szulecki (1980) and her brothers and sisters in Poland. She was a long time member of Sts. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, a member of the Polish Legion, Branch 558 and a member of the Canadian Polish Society. Maria was a veteran, serving with the British Forces during WWII after having survived deportation to the Siberian Work Camps and her subsequent return journey through the Middle East. MacKENZIE, Franklin Robinson Franklin Robinson MacKenzie, beloved husband of Marg of Calgary, passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital on Wednesday, March 18, 2009. Frank was born and raised in Campbelton, NB and graduated from Mount Allison University and Nova Scotia Technical College with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He spent most of his working career in Alberta in the oil and gas industry. Frank especially loved the mountains and he and his wife Marg spent a great deal of time hiking and skiing in them. He was a lifetime member of the Norseman Ski Club and was active in the Prairie Mountaineers Hiking Club. In later years, he and Marg travelled extensively to many parts of the world and enjoyed their retirement together. In addition to his loving wife, Marg, Frank is also survived by three sons, Scott (Karen) of CornerBrook, NL, Ken (Renee) of Calgary, and Bruce (Jay) of Vancouver, BC; and one sister, Marion (Lloyd) Hinton of Aurora, ON. Frank was very proud of his three grandchildren, Brian, Douglas and Anna MacKenzie, and he particularly enjoyed getting together with them during the summer in Nova Scotia. A private family gathering will be held. ROY-O'GRADY, Teresa Ann Theresa Roy-O'Grady (nee Sallans) of Morinville died in the Sturgeon Hospital in St. Albert on March 19, 2009. She was born in Calgary on December 10, 1965 where she grew up. She participated in the 604 Moose Squadron Air cadets where she met her first husband Jean Roy. Jean Roy perished in the Tusker 27 Labrador Helicopter Crash on October 2, 1998. Theresa moved to Morinville with her three sons in 2000 where she began to make many friends in the community and the Morinville Baptist Church. Theresa loved singing. In Morinville she became a second mother to many young people. On April 26, 2008 Theresa exchanged vows with Brendan O'Grady. Theresa will be remembered by her husband Brendan and her three sons Shawn, Sebastien, and Mikael; her parents Eva and Gordon Sallans; her brothers Jody (Kim) and Philip (Rose); uncles and aunts; a number of nieces and nephews; former in-laws, the Roy Family. She was predeceased by her first husband Jean Roy. LEMM, Barbara (nee Tuggey) - It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our Mum, Barbara Lemm on Monday, March 16th, 2009, at the age of 68 due to complications in her brief, but very courageous battle with cancer. Born in Montreal, to Edna Gardiner and Harry Tuggey, Barbara graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1961 from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing. Her nursing classmates became one of Mum's very important circles of friends she considered a true sisterhood. She dedicated the rest of her life to nursing and the care of others. When our family settled in Cambridge, Mum worked at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, Eventide Home, Riverbend Place, Hanning House and Marion Residence. In 1997, Mum returned to school, graduating from Conestoga College's Community Nursing program. Mum's passion for both her career and her faith led her to continue her education even further, earning her Parish Nursing designation and becoming the Parish Nurse at Trinity Anglican Church. Mum was a lifelong volunteer - even being recognized by both the CNIB and Trinity Anglican Church for her outstanding efforts. She was also an original board member of, and volunteer with, Trinity Community Table. Through each of these occupational, educational and volunteer experiences, Mum continued to make amazing friends. In recent years, Mum enjoyed good times with great friends made through Trinity Anglican Church, her book club, swim program, probus, and community outreach in addition to her nursing and neighbourhood good friends. Barbara was a wonderful and devoted Mother to her four children, Patti Johnson (Peter), Dianne, Carol Moloney (Dennis) and David (Bo), a loving grandmother to Emily, Mitchell, Laura, Jack and Jacob and “Mum“ to her adored little Annie. She will be missed greatly. A visitation will be held Tuesday, March 24 from 6-9 pm at COUTTS FUNERAL HOME, 96 St. Andrews Street, Cambridge. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday March 25 at Trinity Anglican Church, 12 Blair Road, Cambridge. VARTY, Earl - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Earl Varty on March 17, 2009 following a brief illness, secondary to lung cancer. Born December 27, 1910 in Innisfail, Alberta, he was the third child of Tom and Hattie Varty. As a young man he worked as a ranch hand for his Uncle Gus (Slim) Sonnie as well as other ranchers in the Foothills west of Nanton. It was while he was working there, he met the love of his life, Eila Maneely and he married her on her eighteenth birthday, October 22, 1938 in High River. They moved to Vancouver during the war years and Earl worked for Boeing Aircraft building Catalina Flying Boats and B 29's. In the fall of 1945 they returned to Alberta and purchased the poolroom in Bassano which they owned until selling the business in 1974. Upon retirement, they became "Snowbirds" spending twenty-five winters in Mesa, Arizona. Their second home was the Goodlife RV Resort where Earl was busy organizing pool tournaments and following spring training baseball, especially the Chicago Cubs. When Eila suffered a stroke in 2000, Earl seldom missed a day visiting her in the hospital, reading to her and keeping her company. He loved her dearly and advocated tirelessly on her behalf. Earl was devastated by her death in 2007. He is survived by his two sons Roy and his wife Fran, Tom and his wife Cleyta; grandchildren Jeff, Leah (James), Laura (Neil), Theresa (Nick), Ted, Matthew, Jessica; great-grandchild Jasper, two brothers, four sisters as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Eila, two brothers and three sisters. He enjoyed a long and healthy life, and his final illness was mercifully brief. The family is comforted by the thought that Earl and Eila are together once more. He will be cremated and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. His family wish to thank the staff at the Playfair Lodge for all they did for Earl over the past eight years. We also would like to thank Dr. Richards and the staff at the Bassano Health Centre for the care they gave to make Earl's last days as comfortable as possible. A special thank you to Miriam Janzsen, whose assistance helped Earl remain at Playfair Lodge until his final illness.
