JOHNSON, Herbert - July 25, 1930 - March 16, 2009 Herb Johnson, beloved husband of Cathy, of Calgary, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2009 at the age of 78 years. Herb was born in Winnipeg, the fourth of five children of Herb and Esther Johnson. Herb was a journeyman Sheet Metal Mechanic working in the trade and as an Instructor at SAIT, NAIT and Singapore. He retired as a Heating Inspector for the City of Calgary in 1989. He was a master craftsman, designing and building numerous projects. His beautiful creations can be found in many homes. His pride and joy was the cabin that he and Cathy built in 1996 at Bergen Springs. He had a large and giving heart and would help anyone who asked. Herb is survived by his loving wife Cathy; daughters, Lynn (Cal) Koch, Sandi Yahn, Diane Schmidt; chosen children, Heather (David) Brent, Brad Bengtson; stepson, Bob (Debi) Hodgins; grandchildren, Shanna, Nicholas, Danielle, Bennett, Christopher, Amber, Dan, Mike, Jesse, Jordan; several step-great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Lee; brothers, Alf and Tom and numerous relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Ken and grandson. KUZYK, William (Bill) Joseph - July 29, 1930 - March 17, 2009 Bill passed away peacefully, after a lengthy illness, at the age of 78 years. Born in Fedorah, AB, Bill worked in the oilfield industry as a welder and inspector for many years. He was also involved in the hotel industry in Edmonton. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of forty-nine years, Adeline; his daughter, Barbara Jo (Peter) Carlsen; son, Vernon Reg (Holly) Kuzyk; two grandchildren, Robert and Ryland Carlsen; sisters, Nadia Fick and Mary Grattan; brothers, Fred (Edna) and Ambrose (Olga); mother-in-law, Amanda Mellom; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph; mother, Katie; brother, Reggie; brother-in-law, Paul Fick; father-in-law, Oliver Mellom; and nephew, Jeffrey Bergum. LEE, William (Bill) December 15, 1924 - March 18, 2009 Bill Lee of Calgary passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at the age of 84 years. In his working years, Bill was a consultant in the Oil and Gas Industry, which was a career that he really enjoyed. Bill always loved spending time with his family and friends and in his spare time he was an avid curling fan. RINEHART, Jeff December 21, 1962 - March 18, 2009 It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved husband, Jeff Rinehart on Wednesday, March 18, 2009. Jeff lived a full and loving life of 46 years and has left our heavenly earth to take on a new life of everlasting peace and love with our Father God. Jeff - a wonderful and loving husband to Tracy; "Big Daddy" to daughter Shelby; mother Wilma; sister Linda (Doug) Sawyer; brother Art (Bev) Rinehart; uncle Don (Shirley) Rinehart; sister-in-law Jody (Mike) Duffy; father and mother-in-law, Lloyd and Cathy Pope; two nieces Sonia Schaab and Keri Rinehart: and two nephews, Steven Sawyer and Chris Rinehart. Jeff was Jeff from the moment he was born in Olds, AB, and lived on the Rinehart family farm in Westcott, AB, for four years. In 1966 the family moved to Calgary where he spent his entire adolescence in St. Andrews Heights. Jeff was a family man and always looked up to his big sister and brother. Whatever they did, Jeff was right behind all the way. He was introduced to Tracy in 1992 through one of his dearest friends. They were a match made in heaven and married shortly afterward in 1994. Jeff and Tracy shared the fondest memories together from their love of water, and travels to Cozumel, Mexico to get certified in diving, and to their countless annual celebrations to bring friends and family together. Their love for diving and being near the water called them to Ambergris Caye in Belize where they were wed "Barefoot on the Beach" on April 27, 1994. In three short years their daughter Shelby was born and as a family their love for water carried on at our cabin in Seymour Arm, BC. Jeff loved his daughter more than anything on earth and was the proudest Dad when she was baptized, her figure skating, spring board diving, and just recently, when they went scuba diving together. Jeff was a dedicated and well-respected employee with the Calgary Board of Education where his career started when he was just fourteen years old when he had a summer job working in grounds. He went on to develop a very satisfying career in Management and he accomplished many achievements and goals. Jeff was respected by many people at the CBE. He has many, many life-long friends and "brothers" with whom he kept in touch with since elementary school. Friends called Jeff the "glue" that kept them all together. He had an uncanny ability to talk you into anything, including a number of friends who also got certified in diving and went on to enjoy many dive trips with him. He always kept in touch and would do anything for his friends and his family. He was always there to lend a helping hand. If anyone called to ask for his help, there was never a hesitation. Some of our fondest memories with Jeff are his deep love for music, his desire to be close to friends and family, his unbelievable gift of the gab, and all the great times in "Garage Mahal". He also found great comfort and peace through his daily relationship with God. Jeff, we will miss you and the legacy you leave behind will live on forever. We will miss your songs at the fire, your crazy Billy Bob teeth, your teasing, your love for life, our great dart games and dance-offs in "Garage Mahal", and your loving support. NUTT, William "Brian" - born September 5, 1924, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2009. Brian served his country in the navy in WWII and was an active participant in Normandy at the Juno Landing on D-Day in 1944. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, skiing, hunting and golf. Brian was a loving father and husband. He was predeceased by his daughter Joanne. He is survived by his wife Jean, sons Don, James, Brian and Bill, daughters Elaine and Suzanne, ten grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He will surely be missed - We Love You Dad. ZAPFE, Murray Chowen May 5, 1921 - March 13, 2009 It is with great sadness that the family of Murray C. Zapfe, announce his passing on Friday, March 13, in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 87, after a short battle with cancer. Murray will be sadly missed by his dear wife of sixty years, Marion; his children, Brian Zapfe (Lorraine), Margaret Price (Doug); his granddaughters, Jacquie Chekerda (Chris), Janice Zapfesmith (Ian), Allison and Heather Price; and by his five great-grandchildren, David, Evan, Maia, Megan and Sam. Murray will also be missed by his sister-in-law, Kathleen Olsen, and his nieces and nephews, Norman Olsen (Valerie), Lorraine Olsen (Mary), Marjorie Olsson (Klas), Kathy Pinder (Tom), and Rob McAdam (Elspeth), and their families. Murray was predeceased by his parents, Ambrose and Margaret Zapfe in 1961 and 1981, and his sister, Betty-Lou McAdam, in 2003. Murray was born and raised in Toronto, ON. After high school, he joined the RCAF and became a flight instructor during WWII. After the war, Murray attended the University of Toronto, earning a certificate in Business Administration. After graduation, Murray ventured out west, settling in Vancouver, working in the paper industry. In 1963, he and his family moved to Calgary, where he continued his career in the paper business, with Crown Zellerbach, Canada, Ltd. Murray retired in 1983, and spent a full and active retirement, spending winters in Palm Springs, traveling, lawn bowling, volunteering with Meals on Wheels, and enjoying the company of his family and friends. Murray had a gentle nature, a keen sense of humour, and was a wonderful story teller. The family would like to thank Dr. Alex Gregory, and the nursing team on Unit 74 at Rockyview Hospital, as well as the staff at Southwood Hospice, for the wonderful care he received during his brief battle with cancer. She was born in River Rouge, Michigan in 1910, daughter of the late Pierre and Emma (Lefaive) Chevalier. She entered the Ursuline Religious of the Diocese of London in 1930. She served as a teacher in Wallaceburg, Tecumseh, Tilbury, Windsor, Stoney Point and in the high schools of Chatham, Tecumseh and Regina, Saskatchewan. She retired from teaching in 1981 and served as Pastoral Visitor in the Tecumseh Nursing homes. She retired to Glengarda in 1984, then came to “The Pines” in 1994. Sister is survived by a sister-in-law, Mrs. Marie Chevalier, and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by brothers Gerard and Rev. Euclide Chevalier, and sisters Marie Anne Lussier, Isabelle Chevalier, Madeleine Levesque and Aurore Bechard. Visitation will be in the Kiva at Villa Angela, 20 Merici Way, Chatham on Thursday, March 19, 2009 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and on Friday, March 20 after 2:30 p.m. A prayer service will be held on Friday, March 20 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the Kiva at Villa Angela, Chatham. CHANDLER, Audrey Lauraine - With deep sorrow we announce the passing of Audrey Lauraine Chandler at the SAH on Sunday, March 15th. She slipped away peacefully totally surrounded by family and holding the hand of her beloved husband and best friend George. Audrey leaves behind daughters Pat, Judi (Bill Parr), Bonnie (Ben Pino) and Dona (Andrew Hepburn) and sons George (Jocelyn, of Calgary) and Shane (Paula). She loved all her children and that love was returned to her unconditionally. In addition she is survived by 15 grandchildren, 16 great- grandchildren and 2 great-great- granddaughters, all of whom held a special place in her heart and who will keep her memory alive. Audrey will be missed by her sister Marjorie Knister and by her nieces and nephews. She joins her parents Fred and Orpha Moir and younger brother Freddy. A private service in celebration of her life was held at the Arthur Funeral Home on March 17th, with internment planned in May at Hillside Cemetery, Prince Township. Mr. Peter Dzogolyk June 11, 1923 - March 13, 2009 DZOGOLYK, Peter It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Peter Dzogolyk (husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather) who passed away on March 13, 2009. Peter was born June 11, 1923 in Vegreville, Alberta. Over the next 85 years he touched the lives of so many people. He married his wife, Doris, on June 1, 1947 and had four children, Linda, Joan, Ruth and Garry. He is predeceased by his daughter, Ruth; father and mother, four sisters, two brothers, and one nephew.
