FISTER, Harold "Bud" James Fister - March 30, 1930 - March 11, 2009 passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at the age of 78 years. He was predeceased by his son Douglas James (1969). Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years Dorothy; children Kathryn (Denis) Nokony and Michael (Dawn); grandchildren Kerri (Jason), Cory (Jody), Dustin (Lavonne), Kimberly (Noah), Alana and Dillon; siblings Joyce (Clem) Goyer, Jim Fister, Eunice (Bud) King and Arlene (Tom) Winter; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Mr. Donald Stanley MacDonald February 9, 1933 - March 10, 2009 MacDONALD, Donald Stanley 75, Halifax, formally of Gabarus, passed away peacefully at home, with his loving wife of 52 years by his side, on Tuesday, March 10, 2009. Born in Gabarus, he was the son of the late Phillip A. and Dolena (McKay) MacDonald. "Don" was a steamfitter for most of his life, working in this industry for over 52 years and was a member of local 56 of the pipe fitters union. Don had a great love of country music and he also loved to play the guitar. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, his family brought him great love and joy throughout his life. He loved to tell stories, his keen sense of humour and practical jokes were always welcomed. A quiet man, he would spend many hours doing crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him, and whose lives he touched. Surviving are his loving wife, Muriel (Mountain) MacDonald, Halifax; daughter, Donna Lynn (Ken) Smith, Harrietsfield; sons, Bruce (Kara), Waverley; Michael (Wanda), Harrietsfield; Robert (Dale), Timberlea; Vernon (Gloria). Spryfield; grandchildren, Jason, "Sam", Thomas, Shannon, Shelby, Mikala, Jillian, and Jennifer; sister, Annie Mae Morrison, Lunenburg. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Archibald; and sister, Isabel. JOHN, Rudi George John - August 11, 1918 - March 10, 2009 peacefully passed away at Grandview Lodge on Tuesday, March 10, 2009. He was born in Frankenberg, Germany on August 11, 1918. By age 17 he had attained his degree as a chef. He joined the Merchant Marines thus fulfilling his dream of traveling the world using his talents as chef. During WWII, his ship was captured and he was sent to Canada as a P.O.W. He was interred in a camp near Fort William. During this time, he met the love of his life, Mary Zimmerman. After the war he was sent back to Germany. He returned to Canada and on December 25, 1950 he and Mary were married. Rudi was able to secure work cooking and caring for the family of Jack Kent Cook on their boat, sailing the seas. Later he worked for J.N. Paterson in much the same capacities. After that he worked for Great Lakes Shipping as cook on their ship, the Chris M. Rudi and Mary were able to travel the world in their retirement years and made many friends, some of whom he visited many times when on his own. Rudi had a love for flowers and gardening. He was a member of the Horticultural Society and won many awards for his prized roses. His gardens were extensive and beautiful. He also enjoyed classical music and was able to attend a few famous operas at locations throughout the world. He also loved collecting stamps and other memorabilia. Rudi is survived by a sister in Germany and nieces and nephews there. Also surviving are niece Ruth (Dr. Robert) Reid of Prince George, BC; nephew Albert (Barbara) Rothenberg; niece-in-law Lone (late David) Rothenberg; nephew Paul (Margaret) Rothenberg; sister-in-law Bertha (Dr. Tony) Stone of England and sister-in-law Doris (late Paul Zimmerman) and husband Herbert Hoover of Alliston, ON as well as many great nieces and nephews around the world. He was predeceased by his wife Mary, father, mother Freda Glaeser, stepfather Mr. Glaeser, his brother Heinz Glaeser and a sister in childhood. Funeral services for Rudi John will take place on Friday, March 13, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Jenkens Funeral Home. Interment will take place at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Scoble Township at a later date. Reception will follow the service in the Jenkens Reception Centre. Beloved wife of the late Benito (1980). He was born on June 26, 1934, in Halifax. Robert was a very caring and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed playing cards, country music, walking and woodworking. He was employed as machine operator with Maritime Paper Products in Burnside for over 40 years, until his retirement in 1997. He is survived by his wife, Joan (Hinch) Donaldson; sons, Bobby (Bonnie), Nine Mile River; Bruce (Claudette), Beaver Bank; Patrick (Brenda), Millwood; Michael (Louise), Beaver Bank; Darren, Lower Sackville; daughter, Joanne Frank (Steven), Beaver Bank; 18 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Ryan, Northwood Manor; Effie Comeau, Detroit, Mich.; Jean Clark, Kennetcook; brothers, Edward Donaldson, Halifax and Earl Donaldson, Tatamagouche. He is survived by his wife Henrietta (Etta) Joice; sons Lavern (Lorraine), Brian and Daniel (Jacqueline); grandchildren Pamela, Anthony, Boston, Asia and Willow; brother William (Adeline); sisters Petronella Weiler, Sister Anne, Connie Conlon (Patrick), Theresa Dukart and Mary Novak; sisters-in-law Jeanne, Kae, Lucy, Kay, Caroline (George) Grey, Margaret (Bernie) Pederson and June (Kas) Dakinewich; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, Aunt Mary Mickel and many cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Mathias and Pauline (Fleck) Wanner; brothers Matt, Joe, Alphonse, Paul and Tony; brothers-in-law Peter Weler, Walter Novak and Jacob Dukart. Dad loved spending time with his grandchildren and he enjoyed nature, contemporary music, classic cars and working in his garage. He was always there for his family and gave of himself so often without expecting anything in return. He had a deep and quiet soul. He was a good man. Mr. Louis Rishchynski July 24, 1937 - March 12, 2009 It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Louis Rishchynski who passed away Thursday, March 12, 2009 at the age of 71 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Allan (Sherry), Ray (Liza), Kathy (Ed); his grandchildren Casey (Ian), Sarah (Curtis) Jonrian, Patrick, Charley, Gabriel, Dylan, Daryn, Rebecca and Jonathan and 1 great-grandchild Blake as well as 1 brother and 3 sisters. He was predeceased by his loving wife Jackie, his parents William and Pauline and his sister Mary. Louis enjoyed maintaining all his family and friends’ homes and businesses, but he was never too busy to stop and chat. There were very few things he couldn’t fix or make. He had many hobbies but his family Sunday suppers were always a priority. Special thanks to the staff at Harold’s, My Pharmacy and Parkland Ambulance for being a part of his extended family. In lieu of flowers and other tributes a donation can be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Victoria Hospital. LeBLANC Nancy Ellen (nee Phillips) - October 3, 1957 - March 12, 2009, age 51. It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our daughter and sister, Nancy, of Sweets Corner, Hants County on Thursday, March 12th, 2009, at her home. Born on October 3rd, 1957, in Windsor, Hants County, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of Minnie Ellen (nee: Lunn) Phillips, Sweets Corner, and the late Owen Laurie Phillips. Nancy is survived by her sisters, June (Arthur) Mumford, Currys Corner; Karen (Bob) Haley, Halifax; Vicki (Stuart) Brown, Sweets Corner; Suzanne, Gypsum Mines; brothers, Robert Phillips, and Peter (Linda) Phillips, both of Wentworth Road. Besides her father, Owen Laurie Phillips; Nancy was predeceased by her husband, Hector Joseph LeBlanc (March 10, 2005); her brother, Terry Phillips (October 2005). Nancy worked at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, for 19 years. She loved gardening, reading, yard and craft sales, and especially shopping for Christmas. Nancy carried on the tradition of the families’ love of animals and followed her father’s passion for horses. She was also a great supporter of various animal rescue leagues. Nancy will be sadly missed by her family, friends and her faithful dog PK. Cremation has taken place. Mrs. Marion Irene Lillian Wells June 12, 1922 - March 13, 2009 It is with 'sadness' because we will miss her, but 'joy' because she has gone 'home' to be with her Lord, that we announce that Marion (Mom) passed away on Friday, March 13, 2009. She was the beloved mother of Barbara (Ted) Hensby, Laura King, Harold (JoAnn) Wells, and David (Kim) Wells; along with 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Marion is also survived by sisters, Barbara, Joyce, and Marjorie; along with brother Ken, as well as many nieces and nephews. At the age of 5, Marion, along with her parents, Bill and Agnes Yoxall and 2 sisters, emigrated from England and settled on a farm in Saskatchewan. She met and married Samuel Wells in 1940, farmed for several years then moved to Alberta. They retired and moved to Red Deer 26 years ago. Marion was predeceased by her parents; her husband Samuel; sisters, Minnie and Jackie; second husband Archie LaFournie; and son-in-law Michael King. Volunteering was a special part of Marion's life, along with involvement in CNIB and the Ladies of the Royal Purple. Her love for Jesus was very evident in everything that she did. The family desires to express our gratitude to all who made these last years of mom's life worth living. Thank you to the 'caregivers' at the Redwood's Retirement Residence, the nurses and doctors in Emergency and on Unit 31 and on the Renal Dialysis Unit. Special accolades to Dr. R.M. Hulyk and Dr. Kym Jim. A Celebration of Mom's Life will be held at First Church of the Nazarene (2 McVicar St., Red Deer, AB) on Thursday, March 19, 2009 at 1:00 pm.

BOONE, Thomas (Tom) - January 30, 1944 - March 14, 2009 Boyd "Thomas" Boone of Calgary passed away at his home, early Saturday morning, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Tom leaves to mourn his spouse of twenty-eight years, Lila Campbell; his two children, Tom Jr. (Jillian) and Kathy, both of Nova Scotia; his four step-children, Jim (Cindy), Jamie (Steve), Genevieve, and Angelita; and three step-grandchildren, Nikki, Chantelle and Garnet. He also leaves behind seven brothers and sisters, Sylvia Bugden, Rita (Terry) Poulton and Ernest (Linda), all of Newfoundland, Bill (Jean) of St. Albert, Andrew (Teri) of Calgary, Shirley Grandy of Fort McMurray, and June (Stephen) Cooper of Calgary. Predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Julia Boone of Bareneed, Newfoundland. Tom's easygoing and fun-loving nature resulted in a multitude of friends that will also feel his loss. HOUGH, Vera Marguerite - passed away peacefully on March 12, 2009 just short of her 102nd birthday. Vera is lovingly remembered by her son Alan (Carol), granddaughters Christianne (Sean), and Kelsey (Jordan Nixon), great-granddaughters Sarah and Sydney and her cousin Jean McIntyre. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Joseph in 1985, her brother Douglas and sister Norma. Vera's life in her own words was a "crazy quilt" of experiences as a rural teacher, farm wife, and a lifelong activist for charities and social agencies. Vera was an "organizer", and had a talent for getting others involved whether it was variety show or blood donor clinic in a community hall, her fellow seniors at Westside Seniors and Bethany Care Centre, or enchanting Calgary school children with her elaborate puppet shows. Her strong independent streak and courage in dealing with the challenges in her own life were hallmarks of a long and very full life. Vera's family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff of fourth and third floors at George Boyack Care Centre for the wonderful care and friendship provided to Vera during the eight years she resided there. As a part of a family of ten children, Alexandra helped with pasturing cattle, housework, and babysitting. When time permitted, she attended Grant School. She married Teodoze in May 1923. They farmed and raised their family in the Krydor district, retiring to the town of Hafford in 1970. She had many passions! They were her family, her spirituality, baking, cooking, sewing, embroidery, knitting, rug making, gardening, pysanky writing and carpentering! As the matriarch, her home was a magnet that drew all her family together. Each member was valued and loved by our Baba. No birthday was ever forgotten. While enjoying her independence, she also loved impromptu visits from her nieces, nephews and friends and nobody ever left her home hungry. Prayers for Alexandra will be held on Monday, March 16th at 7:30 p.m. at Park Funeral Chapel, 311 Third Avenue North, Saskatoon. The Divine Liturgy will be held on Tuesday, March 17th at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Krydor. Officiating at the services will be Rev. Fr. Michael Fedoriv. KNIGHTS, Arthur Dennis - October 10, 1930 - March 14, 2009 Arthur Dennis Knights, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the age of 78 years. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife Gwen (nee Draper) of fifty-six years; his three daughters and son, Barbara Taylor, Margaret (Rodney) Pocock, Sandra (Scott) Risebrough, Richard (Christine) Knights; brother, Graydon (Beryl) Knights; sister-in-law, Marjorie Knights; all the Draper brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as many nieces and nephews. His grandchildren, Lauren, Evan, Adam, Lindsay, Mark, Cole, Kelly, and Kyle will forever cherish the memories of their Papa. Dennis was born October 10, 1930 in Pembroke Ontario, was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Nina Knights and brother, Glen. He was proud of his thirty-five year Marketing and Distribution career with Petro-Canada (British American Oil (BA) and Gulf Canada Products) that took him and his family from Ottawa, to Montreal, to Toronto and finally to Calgary. An avid curler and golfer, Dennis was able to participate in these sports until last year. Dennis truly valued all the friendships he made during his life. CAMPBELL, William (Bill) Samuel September 4, 1930 - March 13, 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William (Bill), beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather. Bill passed away peacefully after a long illness at his home in his family's embrace. Bill was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1930. He grew up in Toronto and Ottawa, graduating with a degree and gold medal in geological engineering from Queen's University in 1953. Bill began working for California Standard in Brandon where he met his future wife Winn. His long and successful career involved many transfers throughout Western Canada, Australia, California, and Saudi Arabia, ending back in Calgary in 1981. Bill retired in 1995 as Vice President of Exploration for Chevron Canada Resources after forty-two years of service. Bill had many interests throughout his life, including painting, reading, music, history, and travel. Prior to retirement, he began playing cello, joining and performing with the Ukrainian Hopak Orchestra. During his seventeen years with the orchestra, he played in many venues including the Jubilee Auditorium and Jack Singer Hall. Once retired, he and Winn indulged their love of history and travel exploring new territory in Egypt, Europe, Yucatan, and the South Pacific. Of all his interests, his greatest joy came from being with his family. Bill was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was very proud of his family and will always live on in our memories and in our hearts. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend Winn; his children, Barbara (Tim) Bell and their children, Meagan and Myles of Calgary, Donald (Sandra Lee) Campbell and their children, Haley and Jack of Danville, California, and Christine (Erik) Vik and daughters, Olivia and Amelia of Calgary. Bill is also fondly remembered by his sister Eunice (Mel) Goyette and their family along with brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
