CROUCHER, George William - February 28, 1918 - March 12, 2009 - 91, of Halifax, passed away March 12, 2009, in Northwood Centre, Halifax. He was a son of the late Sarah (Keeping) and George Croucher. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Madonna (Fougere); son, George Wayne (Susan); grandchildren, Catherine (Paul Lorette), Keith and Sara; great-grandchildren, Bradley and Margot Lorette. George worked on the Halifax Waterfront from the age of 14 until his retirement. Special thanks to the 9th floor Northwood staff. Mr. Mitchell Lee Crawford January 2, 1959 - March 12, 2009 After fighting cancer, Mitch finally gave in on March 12, 2009 at the age of 50. Forever loved by his father Lyle, sister Bonnie and brothers Lyle Jr. and Tony, and brother-in-law John. Survived by his children Justin, Stephanie and grand-daughter Kailie. Will be remembered by family and many friends through the years. Predeceased by his mother Hannah and daughter Brittany. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. Loving and dedicated mother of Kora-Ann and Hannah and step-mother of Caleb. Casie is survived by her parents Bob and Denise Watt, her brother Jason and his wife Christine and their two children Meghan and Abby, and by her grandparents Audrey Watt and Reine and Romeo Boulanger. Casie was a science teacher at Ross Beattie Public School for 9 yrs. She was a graduate of Guelph University and completed her Teachers College at Nipissing University in North Bay. McKANE, Doreen E. August 15, 1922 - March 13, 2009 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Doreen McKane on Friday, March 13, 2009. Born in Moygashel, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, she married Harry McKane on March 12, 1947. Upon immigrating to Canada in 1948, Doreen resided in Winnipeg, MB for fifty years before relocating to Calgary to be closer to her family. An avid bowler, Doreen was also an accomplished knitter, loved animals and loved to bake. Predeceased by her husband Harry in 1986, Doreen is survived by her daughters, Hazel (Tony) Williams of Delta, BC, and Margaret (Gary Cook) McKane of Calgary; as well as grandchildren, Rob Williams of Waterloo, ON and Sarah Williams and Allison Cook, both of Calgary. She is also survived by her brother George (Peggy) Belshaw of Northern Ireland; sister Sarah Murray of Brandon, MB; and many nieces and nephews. At Doreen's request no Memorial Service will be held. MURPHY, Lawrence Joseph - It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Larry, at Bluewater Health, Palliative Care, on Sunday, March 15, 2009, at the age of 94. Beloved husband of the late Mary (Bordignon) (1972). Loving father of Larry (Maureen), Martha (Ric) Gillesby, Gerard (Wendy), Patrice (Bob) McClemens, Monica (Dave) Laird and Julie (Rupert) MacDonald. Proud grandfather of Rory and Leah, Courtney, Ashley and Scott, Mike (Krista), Austin, Mary and Shane, Jessica, Carla and Sarah, Doug, Ben and Danielle, Derek and Michelle; and great-grandfather of Cohen and Fallon, Lana, and Kaia. Brother-in-law of Rose Bordignon (Guelph). Predeceased by his parents, siblings Doris, Viola, Audrey and Bernie; brothers-in-law Tommy, Angelo, Joe, Neil, and sister-in-law May. Larry was a veteran of WWII and he retired from CIL as a Power Engineer, First Class. He was a lifetime member of IPE (Institute of Power Engineers). Larry was a very active member of St. Peter's Church, Sarnia, and the Knight's of Columbus. In his retirement years he spent most of his time volunteering for Lifeline, Pathways Health Centre and visiting at nursing homes. He also enjoyed attending many sporting/school events of his children and grandchildren and playing golf. Larry officially “retired“ from volunteer work at the age of 92. Francis Royer 1921-2009 À sa résidence, le dimanche 15 mars 2009, suite à une lutte courageuse contre le cancer et entouré de sa famille, est décédé à l’âge de 88 ans, Francis Royer, domicilié à Trois-Ruisseaux. Né le 9 mars 1921 à Saint-Jean N.-B., il était fils de feu Pierre et Anne (MacDonald) Royer. Il sera beaucoup manqué par son épouse depuis 42 ans, Camilla (St. Pierre) Royer, et leurs enfants: Michel (Maria Vittoria Mambrini) de Mirandola, Italie, Maurice de Toronto, Ont., et Lynne (Darren Zammit) de Grand-Barachois; un frère, John Royer (Taime) de Cape Cod, Mass., ainsi que plusieurs amis. Il fit ses études à Petit-Rocher, N.-B. pour ensuite poursuivre à l’École Normale de Frédericton. Durant la seconde Guerre Mondiale, il s’enrôla dans les Forces Canadiennes. Il recu une formation d’opérateur de radar; et fut stationné à Halifax, N.-É., Brooklyn, N.-É., et St-Georges de la Malbaie en Gaspésie. Ses responsabilités étaient la surveillance des côtes canadiennes. À la fin de la guerre, il s’inscrivit à l’Université du Nouveau-Brunswick où il obtient un Baccalauréat en science de la Foresterie en 1950. Il enseigna à Port Elgin. En 1958, il accepta le poste de Directeur à l’École Consolidé de Cap-Pelé, jusqu’en 1977. Il continua à enseigner à l’École Donat-Robichaud jusqu’à sa retraite en juin 1981. Très impliqué, il a été officier formateur des Cadets de l’armée de Port Elgin, membre et Grand Chevalier des Chevaliers de Colomb de Cap-Pelé, et membre de la Légion Canadienne; il fut responsable du défilé du 11 novembre pour plusieurs années. Il fut maître scout à Port Elgin et à Cap-Pelé. Lorsque les Scouts sont devenus Les Scouts Catholique du Canada, il fût nommé 1er commissaire Diocésain, région de Moncton. Il fut impliquer, dans le mouvement Scout durant 25 ans. Il fut aussi membre du Club d’âge d’or. Il pratiquait les fléchettes, quilles et le shuffleboard et il articipa aux jeux de l’amitié du N.-B. et les jeux des aînés du Canada. Il aimait voyager, et il visita le Canada, les États-Unis et l’Europe. Aimant de la nature, son passe-temps était de nourrire les oiseaux et les écureuils autour de la maison. Sa famille se souviendra de lui comme un époux et un père attentif et dévoué. La famille recevra parents et amis à compter de 14h, le mercredi 18 mars, au funérarium Frenette, 2642, chemin Acadie à Cap-Pelé (577-3297). Les funérailles auront lieu en l'église Ste. Thérèse d'Avila de Cap-Pelé, le jeudi 19 mars 2009, à 10h30. L'inhumation se fera au cimetière paroissial au printemps. Jean Paul LeBlanc 1932-2009 Presque Isle - À New Smyrna Beach en Floride, à l’âge de 76 ans, est décédé Jean Paul LeBlanc. Fils de feu Napoléon et Joséphine (Gautreau) LeBlanc, J.P. est né le 1er novembre 1932 à Robichaud Office au Nouveau Brunswick. Il adorait le golf et la pêche. Un fervent catholique, il était membre de la paroisse St. Mary’s de Presque Isle, au Maine. Il a travaillé 40 ans dans la vente de produits chimiques, au début avec Canada Packers et jusqu'à sa retraite avec Nutrie Chemical, dans le Maine. Il est membre fondateur et actuel président du Conseil d’administration de la First Citizen Bank du Maine; Partenaire fondateur et président actuel de l’Atlantic-Pacific Trading Company et aussi président actuel de Grand Falls Milling. IN MEMORIAM DESMEULES (Abbé Joseph-André) Est décédé au Pavillon de Métabetchouan, le 13 mars 2009, à l'âge de 85 ans et 1 mois, M. l'abbé Joseph-André Desmeules, prêtre retraité, demeurant jusqu'à tout récemment à la Résidence Patrick Trottier d'Hébertville-Station. La famille accueillera parents et amis le mardi 17 mars 2009 de 14 h à 17 h et de 19 h à 22 h au Salon funéraire d'Hébertville-Station Rue Deschênes, Hébertville-Station Ainsi que le mercredi 18 mars 2009 à compter de 9 h. L'abbé Desmeules sera exposé en chapelle ardente à l'église Saint-Wibrod d'Héberville-Station, rue St-Wilbrod. Les funérailles seront célébrées le mercredi 18 mars 2009 à 11 h à l'église St-Wilbrod d'Hébertville-Station. L'abbé Joseph-André Desmeules sera ensuite reconduit dans sa paroisse natale à Saint-Louis de l'Île-aux-Coudres où il sera inhumé. L'abbé Desmeules laisse dans le deuil ses frères et soeurs: Paul-Henri (feu Marie Bouchard), Gédéon, feu Raymond (Angèle Bouchard), Camil (Nicole Dufour), Thérèse (feu Fernand Boudreault) et Germain (Claudine Harvey). Il laisse également dans le deuil de nombreux neveux et nièces, amis ainsi que ses confrères du clergé diocésain de Chicoutimi. L'abbé Joseph-André Desmeules est né à Saint-Louis de l'Ïle-aux-Coudres, le 4 février 1924, d'Hilaire Desmeules et de Blanche Desgagné. Il a fait ses études classiques au Petit Séminaire de Chicoutimi et ses études théologiques au Grand Séminaire du même endroit. Il a été ordonné prêtre dans la cathédrale de Chicoutimi par Mgr Georges Melançon le 1er avril 1951. Il a d'abord été vicaire à Saint-Ambroise, puis à Sainte-Famille de Kénogami, à Saint-Georges de Jonquière, à Saint-Gédéon et a agi comme desservant et comme vicaire à Saint-Bruno. Il a ensuite été nommé curé de Saint-Félix d'Otis de 1967 à 1974 avant d'être curé d'Albanel de 1974 à 1986 et enfin curé de Saint-Wilbrod d'Héberville-Station de 1986 à 1998. Il a alors pris sa retraite le 15 février 1999 à la Résidence Patrick Trottier, ancien presbytère de la paroisse Saint-Wilbrod. Il a toutefois continué à rendre service en paroisse et dans les Foyers pour personnes âgées selon ses possibilités. En janvier dernier, en raison de maladie, il avait dû être admis au Pavillon de Métabetchouan où il est décédé. Ceux et celles qui le désirent peuvent faire des dons la caisse d'entraide sacerdotale du Diocèse de Chicoutimi. Une personne bénévole sera présente au salon funéraire pour les recueillir. SCISSONS, Mary Veronica nee Cavan Passed away peacefully in the arms of her family on March 9, 2009 in Abbotsford, BC. Mary was born on September 14, 1913 in Thurso, Quebec and was one of the children of Mary Jane McDonald and James Cavan. Mary lived a life of great dignity and kindness and is remembered with deep love by her daughters, Rose Marie, Bonnie, Adele, her son Wayne and her beloved daughter-in-law, Pat. Her husband James Earl Scissons died in 1995 and her son Cavan died in 2004. Mary is also loved and remembered by 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, as well as many cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends. GETHINGS, Judy Judy Gethings, in her 61st year, passed away peacefully at her home in Woodlawn, Ontario Friday, March 13th, 2009. She is survived by her beloved husband, lover and primary care giver, Ralph, her three wonderful children, Ralph, Clifford and Esther and her loving grandchildren Darian and Payton Gethings. She is also survived by her three sisters, Dixie (Ralph) Young, Cindy Waller and Theresa (George) Patenaude and her darling brother, Donald (Carolyn) Gorman. In accordance with her wishes, Judy will be cremated this weekend with a small ceremony to follow early in the week. Judy was a wonderful, thoughtful and caring person who always put the needs of others before her own. One of her last wishes was that if you hear the song by Louis Armstrong "What A Wonderful World" think of me for a few seconds and then get on with living, and enjoy all that life has to offer. A small memorial will be held Monday March 16th at 1:00 PM at the Pinecrest Cemetery, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa, Ontario. SINGER, Leon W. June 10, 1925 - March 13, 2009 Dr. Leon W. Singer passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital on Friday, March 13, 2009 at the age of 83. He is survived by four children, Adam Singer (Marg Semel) of Calgary, Jessica Levental (Igor) of Denver, Jonathan Singer-Jordan (Pat) of Ma'alot, Israel, and Jeremy Singer-Jordan (Chikako) of Jerusalem, Israel; eleven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Leon was predeceased by his dear wife of forty-seven years, Florence, in 2004. Leon was born and raised in Liverpool, England in 1925, in a large family. After British naval service in World War II, he graduated from the University of Liverpool as an optometrist. He immigrated to Canada in the mid-1950s and worked for the government of Canada, providing optometric services on First Nations reservations in Saskatchewan. Leon moved with his family to Edmonton in 1963 where he practiced optometry until 1985. After retirement he and Florence moved to Calgary in 1994. RAUMAN, Raakel Ilona 2009-03-17 Mrs. Raakel Ilona Rauman, age 86 years, formerly of Banning Street, passed away at Pioneer Ridge on Sunday, March 15, 2009. Raakel was born on December 26, 1922 in Koski T.L., Finland, she came to Canada in the mid 1950‘s. As a homemaker, Raakel enjoyed spending time at home, in the garden and with her family. DESBIENS (M. Victorien) Le 13 mars 2009, est décédé entouré de l'amour des siens au Centre de santé et de services sociaux de Chicoutimi à l'âge de 66 ans et 2 mois, M. Victorien Desbiens, époux de dame Esther Tremblay, fils de feu madame Émilienne Houde et de feu monsieur Arthur Desbiens, demeurant à St-Hohoné. La famille accueillera les parents et ami(e)s mercredi le18 mars 2009 de 14 h à 17 h et de 19 h à 22 h et le jeudi, 19 mars 2009 de 9 h à 10 h 30 à l'Alliance funéraire du Royaume Résidence Ste-Claire 345, rue St-Armand, Chicoutimi Les funérailles auront lieu jeudi le 19 mars 2009 à 11 h à l'église de St-Honoré. Il sera incinéré au crématorium de l'Alliance funéraire du Royaume et les cendres inhumées au cimetière paroissial. Outre son épouse dame Esther Tremblay, le défunt laisse dans le deuil ses enfants: Nancy Desbiens (Frédéric Bouchard), Sonia (Michel Tremblay), Jimmy (Julie Fortin); ses petits-enfants; Gabriel, Jérémy, Laurie, William; les enfants de Julie: Alexandre, Laurence et Anne. Il était le frère de: feu Yvette Desbiens (feu Charlemagne Gauthier), Carmeline (feu Simon Boudreault), feu Nazaire, feu Marie-Blanche (Alfred Fortin), feu Raymond (Aliétta Lagacé), Irène (Raymond Bergeron), Rolande (feu Rosaire Tremblay), Rose-Hélène (Edmour Tremblay), Denise (Raymond Gauthier), Jeanne D' Arc (feu Gilles Dufour). Il était le beau- frère de: Angèle Tremblay (Philippe Lagacé), feu Yvan (feu Francine Desbiens), Régis (Lucie Viger), Louis-Marie (Michèle Bissonnette), Normand (Claude Laliberté), Françoise (feu Michel Tremblay), Richard (Lucie Lavoie), feu Viateur (Danielle Boulianne), Laval (Denise Godin) et Daniel (Linda Gauthier). Il laisse également dans le deuil ses deux filleules: Martine Bergeron et Sylvie Lagacé, ainsi que de nombreux neveux et nièces, parents et ami(e)s. Une pensée spéciale pour Dominique et Mario. MENARD, Aurel (1951 - 2009) After a courageous battle with cancer Aurel passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 13, 2009, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Beloved husband of Rhea Menard (Belanger). Loving father of Linda (Ryan Jolicoeur) and Pierre (Jennifer Payne). He will be missed by his four grandchildren Felicity, Kory, Brooke and baby Jack. Dear son of Cecile Menard (nee Viau) and the late Edouard. Dear brother of Sylvie (Andre Boisvenue), Francine (Alain Lajoie) and Roch (Jocelyne Lacombe). Predeceased by brothers Denis (Lorraine Laroque) and Daniel (Reina Lacombe). Aurel will be greatly missed by the Belanger family and will be forever in the hearts of all nieces, nephews and friends.
