SCRIMGEOUR, Marie 2009-03-14 It is with great sadness that we announce that Marie Elizabeth Scrimgeour, aged 87 years, passed away peacefully at Pinewood Court on Thursday, March 12, 2009. Marie was born in Aberdeen, Scotland on August 24, 1921 and immigrated to Canada with her husband in 1957. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. J. W. F.(Ian) Scrimgeour in September, 1999. Marie is survived by her three children; Graham (Susan Chevalier) of Goodwood, Ontario, and Fiona (Andrew Lawrence) and Jackie (John Hinsperger) both of Thunder Bay. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; Darryn Scrimgeour, Jenna & Stacie Chevalier, Nathan, Derek and Richard Lawrence, Michael, Evan and Andrea Hinsperger. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service for the late Marie Scrimgeour will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Brodie Street on Wednesday, March 18 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Bert Van Cook officiating. Donations in memory of Mrs. Marie Scrimgeour to Camp Firefly (a local camp for children with diabetes), c/o Diabetes Health Thunder Bay, or to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. The family would like to express our gratitude to the staff of Pinewood Court and the Thunder Bay Interim Long Term Care Centre for the wonderful care shown to our mum. BEAUMONT, Frère René, C.S.V. 1922 - 2009 Le frère René Beaumont, clerc de Saint-Viateur, est décédé au Centre Champagneur de Joliette le 12 mars 2009, à l'âge de 86 ans, dans sa 68e année de profession religieuse. Né à Montréal le 28 juillet 1922, le frère Beaumont a prononcé ses premiers voeux le 24 juillet 1941. De 1942 à 1976, le frère Beaumont a oeuvré dans diverses écoles, d'abord au niveau primaire (Saint-Clément de Beauharnois et Saint-Nicolas d'Ahuntsic) et, à partir de 1950, au niveau secondaire, spécialement à l'École secondaire Saint-Viateur où il a travaillé une vingtaine d'années, soit comme professeur, soit dans diverses tâches administratives. En 1976, il est nommé directeur des services du personnel à l'Institution des Sourds de Montréal. Par la suite, il se joindra à l'équipe du Centre 7400 où il a été responsable de l'accueil et de l'hébergement pendant plus de 25 ans. Il y a quelques mois, il était encore à la tâche. Outre sa famille religieuse, le frère Beaumont laisse dans le deuil sa soeur Gertrude ainsi que quelques neveux et nièces. Le frère René Beaumont sera exposé à la : Maison provinciale des Clercs de Saint-Viateur 450, avenue Querbes, Outremont (514) 274-3624 Le dimanche 15 mars, de 14 à 17 h et de 19 à 21 h. MOSKWA, Jaroslaw "Jerry" 2009-03-14 It is with much sadness that the family of Jaroslaw "Jerry" Moskwa announce his passing on Friday, March 13, 2009 at St. Joseph‘s Hospital at the age of 86. Born in Pitrichi, Lviv, Ukraine, Jerry immigrated to Canada from England in 1962. He worked as an orderly for 19 years at St. Joseph‘s Hospital. He was actively involved in Thunder Bay‘s Ukrainian community as a Ukrainian school teacher and choir director at the Church of the Holy Protection and it brought him much joy and fulfillment. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Josephine; daughter Natalia (Al Cross); grandchildren Milli and Louise and family in Ukraine. The family wishes to thank the excellent nurses and staff at TBRHSC and Dr. Janet Noy and Dr. Davis and the nurses at St. Joseph‘s for their care and compassion. BALDWIN, Arthur York Sr. - (1923-2009) After a long courageous battle with multiple cancers and diabetes, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, March 11th, 2009, at his home with his beloved wife of 65 years, Pauline “Pearl” Baldwin, at his side. Arthur is predeceased by his parents George and Rosetta Baldwin, and his 9 siblings. Loving father of Joanne (Bob) Hamilton, Robert, Sharon Ross, Douglas, Carol Baldwin and the late Arthur Jr. (2005). HOPKINS, Lawrence (Larry) - Passed away at the Penticton Hospital on March 10, 2009 in his 59th year with his sisters Dianne and Vicky by his side. Larry became critically ill shortly after arriving in BC where he went to visit his children. Larry is survived by his father, James Hopkins, sisters Vicky King (Terry) and Dianne Stone (Robert) of Niagara Falls and Karen Clackett (Bev) of Grand Bend, ON. Larry will be sadly missed by his children Bryce and Chelsea Hopkins of Maple Ridge, BC, Ron Hopkins (Tracee) of Vernon, BC and grandchildren Bailee and Shayne. Larry leaves behind many uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Muriel Hopkins and nephew Adam Roth. Cremation has taken place at Everden Rust Funeral Home in Penticton. DIXON, William Stanley (Bill/Willie) - Passed suddenly on Thursday, March 12, 2009 in his 71st year with his partner Patsy Eaton by his side. Husband of the late Anne Dixon (1999) and father of Danny, Patty Gagnon (Ron) and Steve (Phyllis). Papa will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Adam, Alyssa, Deandra, Brodie, Amelia and Rowan. Son of Zena Dixon and the late Stanley Dixon. Son-in- law of Margaret Foster and the late William Foster. Brother of John Dixon (Judy) and the late Marie Marchand (Levi). JOHNSON, Helen Elizabeth Helen Elizabeth, beloved wife of the late Howard A. Johnson of Calgary, AB passed away at the Bow Crest Care Center on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at the age of 87 years. Helen will be lovingly remembered by her children; Neil (Lorraine), Duane (Sharon) and Brian (Claire) and five grandchildren; Heather (Josh), Gregory, Kaitlyn, Kyla and Tyler; two great-grandchildren, Amy and Kyle and other family members. Helen was predeceased by her husband Howard and sister Shirley. She was born in Oyen, AB and came to Calgary where she married Howard in 1945 after meeting him at Hendersons Business College. In 1957 they moved to St. Andrew's Heights where she lovingly raised her family. Helen was an active member of the local community bowling and bridge clubs, she also enjoyed her travels with Howard to various parts of the world. Marie immigrated to Canada in 1969 from Czechoslovakia with her husband and children to start a new life. Together, with her husband, she worked very hard throughout her life to provide for her family. VRYHEID, Hendrik Willem Hans was born in 1922 in Soerabaja, then the Dutch Indies. As a youth he went to Holland where he lived in hiding during the Second World War Nazi occupation. Following this he received his Masters of Geology at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands. He worked in the French Jura mountains, in Algeria and also in Tanzania. Hans came to Canada in 1953 and worked for Mobil Oil for twenty-nine years in many places in Western Canada. He will be missed by his wife, Betty and their children; Maya (Norris), Julia and Andre as well as his grandson Nathan and his sister and brother in the Netherlands. Hans loved camping in the parks of Canada; the U.S.A. and Mexico, but especially in the Rocky Mountains. WILSON, Virginia Rine June 22, 1925 - March 7, 2009 Virginia Rine Wilson, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully on Saturday, March 7, 2009 in Scottsdale, Arizona, after a short illness at the age of 83 years. Virginia graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology with a specialty in Micropaleontology. She moved to Calgary in 1955 to allow her husband to pursue his career in the Petroleum Industry. She was active in community related programs, particularly through her involvement with the Junior League of Calgary, where she served as President in the 1960s. Her husband and great love of her life, John H. Wilson, died at a young age in 1970. She never remarried. Virginia is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Linda Wilson, Todd Wilson and Christine Pezarro; her grandchildren Charlie, Shannon, Jennifer, Tyler, Luke and Sean; as well as six great-grandchildren Torin, Landon, Kayleigh, Paige, Ghavin and Audrey and her sister Kathleen Jencek. She cared deeply about her family and will be dearly missed. VACCHER, Albert 2009-03-17 It is with great sorrow that our family says goodbye to our loving husband, father, grandfather and friend Albert Vaccher. Albert was 72 years old and passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospice on March 14th, 2009 with his family by his side. He was born and raised in Fort William and married his beloved wife Hildegard on June 17th, 1966. Albert also worked as an electrician and owned his own business, Masters Electric. He was also an active member with the Shriners. He loved fishing, gardening, cooking and making his own Italian sausages which were the best. Albert is survived by his wife of 53 years Hildegard, brother Norman (Lorraine), sons Ken (Bonnie), John (Donna), grandchildren Richard, Dennis, Jennifer (Brad) and Justin and great granddaughter Jamie Amber as well as many nieces and nephews. SOPER, William “Billy“ - Known to many as Barnacle Billy the Deep Sea Sailor. At McMaster University Hospital on Thursday, March 12th, 2009 in his 50th year. Beloved son of Charles and the late Betty Soper (2006). Loved brother of Veronica (Roger) Bedard, Margaret (Ray Picard) Crann, John Soper and Jeannie Soper. William was a parishioner of St. Patrick's Church in Merritton, and a Lay Novice Oblate of the St. Benedictine Order. SKENE, John Morrice, CA - John died peacefully, surrounded by family, on March 6, 2009 after a fall took away his ability to carry on. John leaves his soul mate and wife Anne, his daughters Barbara (Ben), Deborah (Gerry), daughter-in-law Anna (Brad), his son Curt (Sharen), his brother David (Joan), his sister Janet and sister-in- law Pat (Bruce). His family is comforted knowing he will join his son Brad, his brother Bruce and his parents Ida and John in heaven. John adored his twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. EMDIN, Annie (Fisher) - 1936-2009. It is with great sadness that the family announces her death at the Timmins and District Hospital on Wednesday March 11th, 2009 at the age of 72. Loving wife of L. Joe Emdin for 53 years and beloved mother of Joey and Roger (Sandi) Emdin, and Susan (Tony) Vlahovich and mother-in-law to Vivian Emdin, dearest grandmother to Lindsay Emdin, Vannaleigh and Ashten Vlahovich, Kiefer and Kelton Emdin. Ann is survived by her sister Robina Larrett and many nieces and nephews each of whom were very special to her. Annie is predeceased by her brothers Jack, Jim, Dave, Vaisey, George and Doug, and her sisters Iverna and Marion. Annie also had many friends and neighbours that brightened her life as she brightened theirs. She had a long career in addition to raising a family retiring from Mining Corporation in 1990. Annie loved playing games with her grandchildren, her garden, shopping, Halloween and Christmas and was an avid sports fan, especially watching Cameron in Timbits hockey. She brought light into our lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held in her honor. Family and friends may call at Stinson Funeral Home on Monday, March 16th, 2009 from 10 to 11 a.m. followed immediately by a Chapel Service. Rev. Bruce Roberts officiating.
