HICKS, Lloyd George - Peacefully passed away with his loving family by his side at the SAH-General Site on Sunday, March 8, 2009 in his 83rd year. Beloved husband and soul mate of Pauline (Pat) Hicks for 60 years. Loving father of George (Penny), Michael (Norma) and Mary (Lewis). Cherished grandpa of Sarah Hicks (Dan), Jessica Charette (Felix), Lloyd Hicks Jr. (C.J.), Joey Hicks (Amanda), Aaron Hicks (Anita), Christopher Hicks (Rachel), Brandon Weston and Destiny Weston. BOUCHARD, Patricia - We are very saddened to announce the passing of Patricia (nee Reidy) Bouchard. Loving wife of John and beautiful mom and friend of Michael (Nancy), John (Elly) and Donna (Jimmy). Cherished and adored by her grandchildren Ian, Christopher, Paige and Evan. Pat was the first born of six children to Florence and George Reidy on August 13th, 1940 in Hamilton, Ontario. She later moved to Welland, Ontario where she met and married John Bouchard formerly of Rimouski, Quebec. They married on June 6th, 1963 and settled in St. Catharines. Pat was a dedicated nurse for over thirty years. Her generous nature and kind approach kept her surrounded by friends. She held great pride for her three children and their accomplishments and would tell anyone who would listen. Her sense of humour was sharp and her smile could energize the room. Pat was an avid reader, tremendous baker and loved musicals and the ballet. She sparkled most when she had her grandchildren around. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her. Thank you mom for the many years we've had. The memories we will cherish forever. CLIMIE RICHARD (Dick) - Passed away peacefully after a courageous and lengthy battle with leukemia, Thursday, March 5, 2009, surrounded by his loving family, at the Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital, at 82 years of age. Beloved husband of Olga (Nikki), for 55 years. Loving father of John and Donna. Cherished grand dad of Joan, Jennifer, Nicole, Richard and Kathryn. Dear brother of Leroy, brother in law of Boris (Bert) Nicoloff, Rose and Oscar Lorentz and Mary Wilson. Uncle to Mark, David, Paul, Allan and Tony. Dick served during WWII for the Royal Canadian Navy on the HMCS Uganda. Dick was a dedicated pharmacist who served the community with generosity as the Owner/Operator of Niagara Drugs in St. Catharines for 25yrs, then 5yrs at Climie's Pharmacy. Also he was a past president of the St. Catharines and District Pharmacist's Association, member of the Gyro Club, member of the Probus Club. He volunteered at the Niagara Apothecary shop and Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed a good game of golf and was an avid curler at the St. Catharines Golf and Country Club. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Dr. P. Fernandez for providing dedicated medical care with compassion through out his illness. At Dick's request there will be no visitation. LUPISH, Larry Lyle - Peacefully, at McNally House, Grimsby on Monday, March 9, 2009, in his 61st year, after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Marlene for 38 years. Dear father of David Lupish (Meredith Short) and Monica Thomson (Nick). Cherished Papa of Kieran, Alexandra and twin boys to arrive in June. Dear brother of Shirley Burton (George), Dwight (Mary Jane), Doug and Allan (Miriam). Also missed by many nephews, nieces friends and family. Predeceased by parents Nick and Mary Lupish. Larry was a pillar of the community. His involvement in Big Brothers/Big Sisters touched the lives of many. BRENNEMAN, Catherine Valerie - Catherine (Cathy) Brenneman, age 76, of Wiarton passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Monday March 09, 2009. Cathy will be deeply missed by her husband Mahlon, whom she married in 1973. WILLIAMS, Barbara Louise - At her residence in Eugenia on March 7, 2009 formerly of Kitchener, recently of Lake Eugenia in her 78th year. Beloved wife of the late Donald (1989). Barbara and Don purchased their cottage at Lake Eugenia in 1977 and following his death she decided to make the cottage her permanent home. She enjoyed and appreciated the love, friendship and support of the many wonderful people in the area. The staff in the stores, trades people, professional people and neighbours all made her feel safe and secure and their caring way enhanced her life greatly. Barbara appreciated you all so much. KOWAL - It is with heavy hearts that the family of Lawrence J. Kowal announces his peaceful passing on Thursday, March 5th in the care and comfort of the staff at Welland County Hospital. Predeceased in 1997 by his high school sweet heart, Lifetime love and wife of 40 years, Violet Frances (nee Superka). Loving father of Lawrence J. Kowal Jr. of Peterborough (wife Cathy) and Kevin M. Kowal of Ayton (wife Margaret). Larry will be lovingly remembered by his four Grand Girls, Katye-Lynn, Shannon, Anna and Mary (Bug). Dad, born in Crowland, was a Graduate of Ryerson Polytechnical University in Toronto. He started his engineering career with Servo mechanisms working on the Avro Arrow project, finishing his career in the aerospace industry with 40 years of dedicated management service to Litton Systems Canada. He returned to his hometown roots in his later years taking up an interest in the Welland County Historical Society. He was well known around town at the museum, and Friday Cruise Night. Larry had a passion for picture framing, woodcarving, woodworking, local politics, trees, and anything that would tweak his interest. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to good friend and walking partner Lois, for her devotion and companionship to Larry while he was ill. As per Larry's wishes, a small family service will be held with interment at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens. CAMPBELL, George Duncan 1922-2009 Per Ardua ad Astra After a brief illness on 7 March, 2009. Survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Margaret (nee Everson) and four children; Jane McMerty (John), Duncan (Barbara Armstrong), Peter and Robert (Ann Palmer), sister Janet Hendery, niece Sarah Besso and nephews Campbell Hendery, Andrew Campbell and Graham Campbell. Predeceased by his parents Jean Hogg Campbell and Dr. Archibald D. Campbell and brother Donald G. Campbell. Born in Montreal, George was a lifelong resident. In 1942, George joined the RCAF, earned his wings and flew operations as a pilot with 424 Squadron. POW in August 1944. Returned home to study at McGill and marry in 1947. Remembered for love of skiing, flying, golf, woodwork, restoring antique cars and above all having a good time with family and numerous friends. Well known to many in Montreal's business, social and charitable communities. George will be greatly missed by his friends from many walks of life including his grandchildren; Sarah Alexandra McMerty, Barra McMerty, Diana McMerty, Robert Campbell, Madelaine Campbell, Katharine Campbell, Jane Campbell and great-granddaughter Amelia. JONES, Mildred E. Devoted mother to Helen Jones, passed away peacefully at the Olds General Hospital in Olds, Alberta March 8, 2009 after a trying battle with cancer. Mildred was born in River John, Nova Scotia, November 5, 1923. She was predeceased by her husband and best friend, Leonard C. Jones, longtime Moncton Mayor and Member of Parliament. Mildred was a wonderful, loving mother and a kind and dear sister. She was a special blend of listener, helper, and very best friend. With her passing we have all suffered a great loss. Bayley, and her late sister Elizabeth (Nan) Baile. Margaret will be sadly missed by her niece Pam Baile and her nephews David and Andrew Baile. Mrs Patricia Hauglum July 14, 1949 - March 6, 2009 It is with great sadness that the family of Patricia Hauglum announces her passing away on Friday, March 6, 2009. Pat was born July 14, 1949 in Broadview, Saskatchewan. She is predeceased by her parents Lucien and Annie Jeannot and by her brother Lawrence Jeannot. Patricia is survived by her loving husband Jim Hauglum of Regina; her children Sean (Corinne) and Renee; and her Bugaboo grandson Rowan; sisters Teena and Eva; brothers Andy, Eddy and Joe; as well as many nieces and nephews. Patricia grew up in the Langbank / Whitewood area. She completed her LPN training and lovingly helped her patients in Weyburn, Saskatoon and Melville. She retired from nursing as her health deteriorated and later moved to Regina in 2005 to be close to her most precious gifts, her children and grandson. Patricia centered her life around her family, which always came first in all things. She was very gifted in the arts, displaying a love for music, painting, ceramics and gardening. As all mothers, she passed these talents to her children and was working on her grandson. Pat was a wonderful homemaker and wife. She had many dear friends with whom she often reminisced of previous mischievous activities. She takes with her all our loving memories of her unconditional love. “Self” was not in her vocabulary, just the word “others”. A more giving and loving person cannot be found. She will live forever in our hearts. Our future will always be guided by our thoughts of her strength and love of family. Mrs. Mae Mary Turner November 7, 1926 - March 7, 2009 The death of Mae Mary Turner, age 82, of Amherst, occurred at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan on Saturday, March 7, 2009. Born in Springhill Junction, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Amelia (McGraw) Dow. Mae enjoyed knitting, crocheting, embroidering and sewing dresses. She also was an avid card player. Mae will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Dora (Bill) Ribble of Amherst; four grandchildren, Timothey, Keith, Stacey and Ashley; brothers, sisters; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold E. Turner (2007); her two sons in infancy, Arnold and Timothey and one brother. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906). As per Mae’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service at this time. Norman was born in Watrous, Saskatchewan on July 4, 1927. He was the fourth of Adolph and Ellie Marie Carlson’s thirteen children. A journeyman carpenter, Norman worked for various construction companies, the CNR and PCS Cory until his retirement. Norman was always available to lend a helping hand to those in need and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
