Loving grandfather of Shawn, Joshua, & David Jessup; and Michael & Brandon Burke. Brother of Beth Jones (Jim), Pembroke; Marcel Lemire (Suzanne), Pembroke; René Lemire (Jeannine), Montréal; and Louis Lemire, Merritt, BC. Son of the late Léonard and Marie Lemire (nee Girard). Also survived by many nieces and nephews. ST-PIERRE, Rosarienne Jeanine (Boies) - After a full and happy life, Rose passed away March 8th 2009 at the age of 82 yrs and 8 months in Barrie ON. Born July 21 1926, she was the beloved wife for 43 years of the late Martial St-Pierre. She was the much loved mother of Donald (wife Maria), Daniel (predeceased 2001) and his wife Suzanne, Jocelyne Laforest and Michel (wife Martine). Very proud grand-maman of Julie-Anne Pellerin (Robert), Marc Laforest (Stacey), Lissa Chase (Jason), Sylvie Schultz (friend Ray), Francine and Michel St-Pierre, Mathieu (friend Joanne), Joey and Julien-Carl St-Pierre. Cherished grand-mère of Sophie-Rose and Mikaëlle Pellerin, Logan and Mason Laforest, Brody Schultz and Devon Chase. Born in Malbaie Québec, she was the daughter of Joseph Boies and Régina Dallaire. She leaves behind her brother Paul Boies (Françoise) and sister Denise Chamberland. Predeceased by sisters Jeanne, Alphonsine, Florence, Marguerite and Jeanine and brother Ghislain. She will be greatly missed by all of her extended family and friends. Katherine Kapla September 21, 1917 - March 7, 2009 Katherine, age 91 of Saskatoon, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on Saturday, March 7th, 2009 at Royal University Hospital. Kay is survived by her daughter, Alexandra (Ross) Robertson of Perth, Australia; Son-in-law, Ernie (Wanda) Friesen of Saskatoon; Nieces, Katherine (Brian) Dugan of Saskatoon, Valerie (Gordon) Hultgreen of Humboldt; Grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah, Paul, Laura (Ryan), and Lisa (Shaun); Great Grandchildren, Alex and Julia; and many loving family members and friends. Kay was pre-deceased by her husband, Konrad; daughter, Darlene Friesen; granddaughter, Jillian Friesen; parents, John and Honorata Wondga; five brothers, Peter in infancy, Adam, Joseph, Walter and George Wondga and sister, Josephine Cebry. Kay attended St. Mary’s School, followed by Technical Collegiate. First and foremost, her passions were her family, cooking, gardening, and of course, chocolate! Baba’s delicious homemade perogies and borscht will be missed by everyone, especially her grandchildren. Kay was very involved in the lives of her two daughters, serving as the President of King George Home and School Association, and continuing in a similar role when they advanced to Bedford Road Collegiate. Service to her church and community was a focus throughout her adult life. Baba successfully combined her home life with working at the University Hospital as one of the first cardiograph technicians in the province, and later training others to carry on this role. Following the deaths of her siblings, Baba assumed the role of family matriarch, never missing a birthday or special event for her extended family across the country. True to her belief that ‘we have to celebrate, ’ Baba never declined an opportunity to take centre-stage at family gatherings and social events. She will be remembered by friends and family as a strong, independent woman who instilled in her daughters the value of family, education, career, and service. Vigil for Katherine will be held at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church (301 Avenue Y South, Saskatoon) on Wednesday, March 11th, 2009 at 7:30 pm, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, March 12th, 2009 at 10:00 am, which will be celebrated by M.S.F. Reverend Fr. Bruno Kartanowicz. A private family interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family graciously requests memorial donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan (279 - 3rd Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK S7K 2H8). DOUGLAS, Donald Walter December 3, 1922 - March 6, 2009 Donald Walter Douglas, beloved husband of Linda, passed away in Richmond General Hospital on March 6, 2009 at the age of 86 years. The youngest of four boys, Don is predeceased by his parents, Jim and Alice, brothers Murray, Mac, Russell, and granddaughter Holly. Don is survived by his loving wife Linda, his children, Bruce (Allison), Don (Betty), Rhonda (Bob), Debra (John), Blair (Lynne) and their mother Jocelyn. Stepchildren, Bonni (Wayne), Lolly, (Kim), Angela (Dave), and grandchildren, Kelly, Paul, Claire, Charles, Collin, Blayre, Kiesa, Chase, Johnny, Julie, James, Read, Faith, Travis, Kyle, Schuyler, Spencer, Jared, Dustin, Maya and great-grandchildren, Ryan and Billy, brother-in-law Jerry and special friends Dean and Joe. Also, he leaves a family of his beloved companion pets and his special friends at the Richmond Animal Protection Society (Cat Shelter). Don was born in West Nissouri Township, Ontario. In 1928, Don and his family moved west to Alberta and in 1933 settled in Blackie. Don graduated from the Calgary Technical Institute in 1941 as an aero mechanic, but his passion was to become a pilot. He learned to fly on an Anson aircraft with "any captains that would teach him". When the R.A.F. Ferry Command was formed, there was a need for pilots to ferry aircraft to the War in Europe and Don was quick to sign on. He flew on the North, Mid and South Atlantic routes to the UK, Africa, Egypt and India and delivered a variety of aircraft including the Mosquito, Lancaster, Hudson, B-17, B-24, B-25, B-26, A-20, A-30 and C-47. After the war, Don spent eight years between Holland and the Caribbean flying with KLM, B.O.A.C., and British West Indian Airways (BWIA). It was during this time he met and married Jocelyn Guy with whom he had their five children. Wanting to get back to his roots, Don moved his family to Calgary in 1953, and joined Home Oil Company where he enjoyed a long and very rewarding career. Don and his staff were the first Canadian operators of the Gulfstream 1, Falcon 20 and the Gulfstream 2 aircraft. Don retired from Home Oil in 1980. He joined Westburne Industrial Enterprises where he purchased and operated the first private Boeing 727 aircraft in Canada. He flew the 727 worldwide for seven years when he eventually retired to Vancouver, B.C. It was there that he and Linda were married in 1987. Don continued to work with animal rescue until his death. Don was one of the founding members of the Canadian Business Aircraft Association (CBAA) and in 1999, was recognized with the CBAA "Award of Merit" for his outstanding commitment to aviation as a wartime ferry pilot and a business aviation founder and leader. He enjoyed his weekly and monthly gatherings with all of his friends in the aviation community. In retirement, Don, Linda and family enjoyed sailing the San Juan and Gulf Islands on his sailboat "Something Special". They also enjoyed private flying throughout North America in his Seneca II aircraft. A special thank you to Drs. Bloom, Halogen and Wong, Nurses Sheila and Sim, all the Doctors, Nurses and Respiratory Therapists at the Richmond General Hospital who cared for Don throughout his illness. POLLEX, Robert "Bob" Harold Suddenly and peacefully while on vacation in Florida on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at the age of 56. Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 37 years, Helene Pollex (Traversy) and his precious children Robyn and Ryan. He is the son of Lillian Pollex (Levesque) and the late Harold Pollex and brother of Bryan, Lynda Michaud, Nancy Pollex. LEICHNITZ, Pastor Arthur Edward Pastor Art Leichnitz entered into glory in his Father's House on the 3rd of March 2009. He peacefully passed away at St. Boniface Hospital Winnipeg Manitoba, at the age of 59 years. Reunited with his devoted and loving mother, Nettie Giles and his niece Jackie Thomson. Greeted in Heaven by his sister Barbara Ann Leichnitz who left us on the 11th of September 2008. Left to mourn and sadly miss him are his sisters Bernice McRae and Joyce Thomson and brother-in-law Dwight McRae. Art also leaves behind nieces Debroah Mousseau, Cindy McRae, Jennifer and Joanne Thomson, nephews Roger and Jason McRae; grand nieces Lissa, Sherri, April and Emma Thomson, Christie Giles, Jenna and Taylor McRae; grand nephews Adam Giles, Buddy Thomson, Joe, Thomas, Bradley and Logan McRae; great grand nieces Tatum Duval, Olivia and Hannah Rutters and his aunt Frieda Schultz who loved him. Art's father, Art Leichnitz resides in Waterloo, Ontario. We're happy that Dirk-Michael Grotzsch and his family welcomed Art as their family member. A cherished brother, a wonderful son to his mother, best uncle, dear cousin and friend. Loved by many, Art will be sorely missed. Art received his Master of Divinity Degree at Lutheran Theological Seminary, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Ordained at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ottawa, Ontario on the 28th of February 1982. He served three ministries from 1982-1992 in Winnipeg, as pastor to the congregations of Faith and Grace Lutheran churches, as well as chaplain at the University of Manitoba until 1998. He began ministry under the umbrella of the Lutheran World Federation in 1998, first in Chicago as the Regional Officer for North America and then in Geneva and the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY) in administrative roles. Art is remembered by many expressions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada and its partners around the world. A memorial service will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, 270 Crichton Street, Ottawa at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2009. Richard was born on August 8, 1953 at Calgary, Alberta. A long-time resident of Roland Michener Centre, Ricky was known for his positive attitude and his helping nature.
