REA-CURTI, Gina January 24, 1965 - March 8, 2009 It is with great sadness that the family of Gina Rea-Curti announces her passing on Sunday, March 8, 2009 at the age of 44 years. Gina was at home surrounded by family following a long and courageous battle with cancer. We will forever cherish the memory of our much loved mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend, as a woman with an abundance of courage, spirit, warmth, generosity and humor. Gina was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. She graduated with a linguistic degree from the University of Calgary and continued her education at McGill University. Her passion for languages also led her to Florence, Italy to continue her studies in Italian. Gina's career in the educational field included teaching at numerous schools in Calgary including St. Joseph's, St. Francis, and St. Pius, as a well respected French immersion resource teacher. Besides her passion for teaching, she had a great love of gardening and baking. Gina was an extraordinary person who cared deeply for her sons and family and always went out of her way to help others. Gina will be lovingly remembered by her sons Anthony and Claudio; her loving husband, Patrick Curti; her mother, Edda (Rea) Bonazza, and Marino Bonazza; her sisters, Maria (Ken) McClennon and Luisa (Duane) Hertzer; niece, Stephanie and nephews, Brendan, Cristian and Massimo, as well as many relatives and friends in Calgary, Montreal and Italy. She was predeceased by her father Raffaele Rea. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Grace Italian and English Catholic Church (1714 - 14 Avenue N.E.) today, March 13, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen's Park Mausoleum. ASHTON, Peggy (nee Speed) September 2, 1946 - March 7, 2009 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Peggy Ashton, beloved wife of Allan of Calgary, on Saturday, March 7, 2009, after a very courageous battle with cancer at the age of 62. Peggy was born in Edmonton on September 2, 1946 and grew up in Devon, AB. She completed her schooling there and in 1964 she married Allan. Thus began a wonderful marriage of forty-five years. After many moves they returned to Calgary in 1977, where they spent a number of years raising their family. Peggy will be lovingly remembered by the beautiful quilts that she had made. She created exquisite quilts for each of her granddaughters and her husband. Her love of cooking, a skill learned from her mother, is something that she has passed on to her children. She very generously gave of her time and talents to the many charities and organizations that she supported. Peggy spent her summers golfing at the Priddis Golf & Country Club, where she and Allan lived, and winters curling and playing bridge. Peggy and Allan were fortunate to have many wonderful holidays together, twenty-three times to Hawaii and as well as numerous other trips. Many of these were with Allan's sister, Norma and her husband, Robert. Besides her husband, Allan, Peggy will be lovingly remembered by her three sons, Robert (Kim), Douglas (Tammy-Jo), and Dan; grandchildren, Camille, Stephanie, Jennifer, Robert, Samantha-Jo, Jacob, Zachary and Hailey; mother, Marge Speed; brothers Charles Speed (Donna), David Speed (Lynne); sister Sandra Bolton (Mike); and numerous extended family. Peggy was predeceased by her daughter Connie, father, Herb Speed, brother, Raymond Speed, and her father and mother-in-law, John and Elsie Ashton. HARLAND, Ruth April 21, 1921 - March 6, 2009 - Ruth Connors Harland (nee Jaques) died on Friday afternoon, March 6, 2009, in Kingston, Ontario. Ruth was born in Briercrest, Saskatchewan, one of five children of Mary and Clyde Jaques. During her grade 12 year, she met the love of her life, Gordon Harland, whom she later married. Ruth attended Normal School and taught briefly in rural Saskatchewan. The couple began their married life in Winnipeg where their three children, Grant, Cathy and Paul, were born. In 1955, the family moved to Madison, New Jersey, where Ruth tended the home while Gordon pursued graduate studies and taught at Drew University. Once Grant and Cathy had left home, and Paul was a teenager, Ruth began part-time university studies. Ruth and Gordon lived in New Jersey until 1968, when they returned to Winnipeg with son Paul. Here Ruth pursued her BA in English, graduating from the University of Winnipeg in 1976. After two years in Pennsylvania (1971-1973), Ruth and Gordon returned to Winnipeg where they lived a rich and full life together until Gordon's death in 2003. Ruth and Gordon also enjoyed one-year stints in Germany, North Carolina, England, and Alberta. In early 2005, Ruth moved to Briargate Retirement Living Centre near Kingston, Ontario, where she could be closer to Cathy and Grant. Ruth's children remember her not only as a kind and loving mother but also as a wise, playful and gentle spirit in their lives. She knew how to make the family home a warm and happy place, filled with good food and lively conversation. She was an engaging storyteller and enjoyed reciting poetry. She laughed easily, and fun was always close at hand. She was even known to hide in closets, leaping out to scare the wits out of her children. She encouraged Grant's science experiments, Cathy's drama and singing, and even Paul's practice of bringing home a variety of pets. Always curious, Ruth was a willing traveler and an avid reader. She appreciated the arts, and kept up on current events. When the children grew up, Ruth enjoyed visiting them in their own homes or welcoming them back to hers. In later life, she followed the achievements of her grandchildren, Kyle, Fraser, and Sarah, with great interest and pride. In her last years, Ruth often commented on how fortunate she had been in life, having experienced love, marriage, motherhood, travel, literature, friendship, and tremendous historical change. In all the significant relationships of her life - - daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend - she was exemplary. She was loving, and in turn, deeply loved. In addition to her children Grant, Cathy, and Paul, and their partners, she leaves to mourn her sister Berna, brother Byron (Gladys); grandchildren Kyle, Fraser, and Sarah; and numerous relatives and friends. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband Gordon, her brother Dave Jaques, and sister Arlie Pieper. A memorial service will be held in Winnipeg at Fort Garry United Church in the spring. Those wishing to do so may make a donation to Fort Garry United Church, the Gordon and Ruth Harland Fellowship at the University of Manitoba, or the Canadian Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. 11436936

Mrs. Ginette Marie Devigne (nee Bilodeau) August 2, 1953 - March 4, 2009 On March 4, 2009, at the Riverview Health Centre a battle that started 12 years ago came to a peaceful end. Surrounded by her family, Ginette went on to be with her beloved Virgin Mary and God. Ginette will always be lovingly remembered by her husband Richard and their four sons, Robert (Veronique), Marc, Denis, and Paul. Ginette also leaves to cherish her memory, father and mother Donat and Marie Bilodeau, brothers Marcel (Carol), Gilles, and sister Michelle (George), and niece Larissa and nephews Andre and Daniel. Mother and father in-law Louise and Gerry Devigne, brother in-law Raymond and sister in-law Lise Robitaille (Larry), as well as many very close friends, Paul and Lynette Choiselat, Jim and Piper Werbowsky, John and Darcia Kozelco, Cecile Roberts, Marie-Claire, just to name a few. Ginette and Richard were married on December 28, 1974 and set out creating and living a life that will leave her husband and four sons many wonderful memories to cherish in her absence. With the exception of their first year of marriage spent in Vancouver, Ginette always resided in Winnipeg, wanting to be close to family and friends. But that did not stop her from seeing the world. With Richard at her side and often times her sons as well, they travelled to many countries and filled her too short time on earth with a life time of adventures and memories. Much of Ginette’s working career was spent at the Manitoba Clinic as a Medical Lab Technologist where she made several life long friends. Making friends came very easy to Ginette, her loving, caring, generous, and compassionate nature made her truly unique. Never having a bad word to say about anyone, Ginette only saw the good in everyone she met. Ginette’s strong faith in God was an inspiration to anyone who knew her. Ginette’s unwavering devotion to the Virgin Mary will live on with her husband and sons. Ginette’s talents were many, but perhaps the one that brought her the most joy was the one developed in her later years, sculpting angels. Ginette could spend countless hours working on her masterpieces which we now have to treasure. Ginette’s legacy will live on in her four sons whom she loved dearly and took such pride in all their endeavors and accomplishments. We Love You and Miss You Sweetheart, Mom, and not a day will go by without you being a part of it. de ST REMY, Winnifred Agnes - On March 1st, 2009 Winn de St Remy passed away unexpectedly after suffering a stroke on 22nd Feb., 2009 at the West Haven Care Facility in Port Alberni B.C. with her son and daughter-in-law at her side. Born to William Henry and Lidia Talbot on Nov. 11, 1917 in Warden, PQ. They moved to Kingston, ON along with her twin sister Laura and three older siblings when she was 2 years old. A short time after completing high school Winn married Cranston de St Remy and they were together for over 60 years. Cran and Winn moved to British Columbia after her husband's retirement from the Kingston City Police. They settled in Cloverdale where they both became avid golfers. Winn golfed almost every day and represented British Columbia in the Canadian Senior Women's Finals when she was in her late 70's. Winnifred is survived by her 2 sons Allan (Patricia), Cranston (Janine) 3 granddaughters Allana, Andrea and Cara, 4 great grandsons and several nieces and nephews who Winn always claimed were the greatest in the word. A memorial Service will be held on March 26th at West Haven Extended Care Facility attached to the West Coast General Hospital where Winn was loved by all. CARROLL, Wayne Martin - On February 23, 2009, following a short illness, Wayne Martin Carroll died peacefully, at his home in New Mexico USA. He was 63 years old. Wayne is predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Marie Carroll of Peterborough and by his sister Kathryn. Wayne is mourned by brothers Richard (Jan) Carroll of Norwood, Daniel (Susan) Carroll of Douro, Robert (Anne, deceased) Carroll of Victoria, B.C and sisters Elaine (Sam) Peters of Seffner, Florida USA and Joanne (Brian) Seabrook of Peterborough and by his many niece, nephews, aunts and uncles of the Carroll and Collins families. Wayne's accomplished career was born of a life-long fascination and love of the sea. He worked in the Canadian Navy, on ice breakers, on logging ships and commercial carriers. Having acquired his Master Mariner Qualifications, Wayne worked for many years for the Stolt-Neilson Transportation Group as Chief Officer. In command of one of his favourite ships, “The Jade“, he travelled to major ports of countries throughout the world including: China, Russia, the Middle East, Britain, U.S. and Australia. Wayne retired in 2005. As he directed, Wayne's remains have been cremated. There will be a family celebration of Wayne's life at a later date. Internment will be at St. Peter's Cemetary. 11437623

Mélanie Evelyne Pichette - À la résidence de son père à Grand-Sault, le lundi 2 mars 2009, à l’âge de 32 ans, est décédée Mélanie Evelyne Pichette. Elle était fille de Me Gilles A. Pichette, c.r. (Antoinette Nowlan) de Grand-Sault et de Jacqueline Violette d’Edmundston. Outre ses parents, elle laisse dans le deuil son frère, Daniel A. Pichette (Carole Dubé-Pichette); sa soeur, Josée, ainsi que les nombreuses intervenantes qui ont été auprès d’elle et de ses soeurs depuis plus de 25 ans. Sa soeur, France, l’a précédée en août dernier. Comme ses deux soeurs, Mélanie était atteinte de la maladie de Batten, une maladie neuro-dégénérative très rare. Mélanie a fréquenté les classes spéciales de l’école Marie-Immaculée et de la polyvalente Thomas-Albert de Grand-Sault. Une cérémonie religieuse présidée par le rév. FISHER, Janet Margaret (nee Paxson) 2009-03-10 Mrs. Janet Margaret Fisher (nee Paxson), passed away suddenly on March 6th, 2009. Born in Port Arthur on January 21st, 1951 to the late Joseph and Margaret Paxson, Janet attended Algonquin Public School and Hammarskjold High School. Working in real estate since, taking time off only to raise her three wonderful children Joe, Jim and Deanne, she also had a hand in raising a few others in the neighbourhood because they all called Janet "Mom". After "the kids" were all attending school, Janet began working at Team 100 Realty and has been there for the last 20 years. Janet loved her job and all the people she‘s met over the years. She was active with the Royal Canadian Legion, was President of the Ortona Ladies Auxiliary and was presently the Recording Secretary of the Branch 5 Ladies Auxiliary, working tirelessly at all of the Legion functions. Janet is survived by her Highschool sweetheart and husband of 35 years, Reid, sons Joe (Jenn) and their daughter Irelynn, Jim (Jackie) of Edmonton, now here, and daughter Deanne (Shawn). She is also survived by brothers Wes of Kenora and his daughter Carrie Paxson of Calgary, Don (Patti) and their son "Little Joe" of Thunder Bay and Rob (Dolly) and their children Garnet and McKenzie of Fort Frances. Grandson of Isla May Cleveland of Cedar Springs and the late Roy Cleveland, Elizabeth (Sophie) Alward, and Michael and Veronica Bokor. He will also be missed by his best friend Jim Handy of Blenheim, Brenda's parents Harry and Carol Smith of Blenheim, and his cats Ripley and Rink-A- Dink. Also survived by a number of brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Rick was the owner/operator of Rick Bokor Lawncare and Snow Removal. He was passionate about his family and very proud of his work. HURD, Angela Susanne 2009-03-10 Angela Susanne Hurd, age 31 years, passed away peacefully in St. Joseph‘s Hospital on Saturday March 7, 2009. She was born in Thunder Bay on June 23, 1977. Angela will be lovingly remembered by her dad Warner; step-mom Donna, mother Iris; step-father Ken, uncle Ted and aunt Linda; sisters; brother; grandma Greta and Poppie, grandma Dorothy and grandpa Sid. BRIGNOLIO, Elda (nee Duhaime) - In loving memory of Elda (nee Duhaime) Brignolio, 91 years, who passed away Sunday, March 8th, 2009 at the Pioneer Manor - Laurentian Site. Elda was born in Espanola and married Armando Brignolio in Coniston in 1936. A longtime and well respected Coniston resident, she was the founding president of the Club Allegri and later in her life she served a second term in her eighties as president. A devout Roman Catholic who had attended St. Paul the Apostle Church and an over 50 year member of the parish CWL. A very thoughtful and generous person, she knitted mittens for the children and often provided meals for the less fortunate. An excellent cook, her perogies and gnocchi were legendary. She was a loving and devoted mother and gramma. Beloved wife of Armando Brignolio predeceased 1965. Loving mother of Joan Sarazin (Larry predeceased) friend John Fleming of Sudbury, Diane Blanchette (Guy) of Capreol, Doris Parker (Melvin) of Sudbury, Rick Brignoli of Azilda and Geno predeceased. Cherished Gramma of Darlene, Greg, Dan, Rod, Tina, Leah, Trevin, Todd, Shawn and the late Gordon, Kevin, Brian and Jamie all predeceased. Loving Great-Gramma to 13 great grandchildren. BERTHIAUME, Paulette - It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Paulette Berthiaume, March 8, 2009 at the age of 50 years. Loving daughter of Hervé and Dolores (née Blais) Berthiaume of Lively. Beloved mother of Mélanie Gardner (friend Mike Hood) of Sudbury and Geneviève Gardner (fiancé Yannick Rivard) of Chelmsford. Dear love of Gilles Brosseau of Chelmsford. Survived by her dear brothers Normand Berthiaume (Carmen) and Maurice Berthiaume (Hélène). Lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews and her special friend Carole Bradley-Whissell. Sadly missed by her godchildren, Jean-Charles Berthiaume, Samuel Caton and Jacob Whissell. Paulette was an educator dedicated for the benefit of the students. She taught several years at École Champlain in Chelmsford with her career ending as principal of École Notre-Dame in Hanmer.
