Loving husband of the former Marlene Newman. Cherished brother of Emma Robertson, Rube Woodruff, Mary Barber, John and June Schope, and Fred and Marie Schope. YORFIDO, James (Jim) - Sadly, the family of Jim Yorfido announces his sudden passing at home on Saturday February 28th 2009 at the age of 87, after a courageous battle with heart disease. Loving husband of Carley (Missett) Yorfido, dear father of James Jr. (Pam) and Tony (May). Brother of Francis (late Donelda), Teresa Yorfido and Mary Yorfido. Mr. Yorfido will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Matthew, Ashton, Anthony and Micheal. He was pre- deceased by his parents Bruno and Rose, brothers Sam, Edward, Fred and Bruno (late Marice). Jim owned and operated Niagara Machine Works Ltd. and was a WW II Vet serving overseas as an Anti Aircraft Gunner. McNAUGHTON, John David Leslie April 20, 1951 - February 25, 2009 David McNaughton was born in Montreal, and grew up in Ottawa. He attended Bishops College School, in Lennoxville, Quebec, Ashbury College and Algonquin College. David's early years in the North were spent in Norman Wells and Inuvik where he met his soul mate, Jeanne, who became the love of his life; they remained inseparable for the next 34 years. He began working for CBC in 1981, and worked his way up through the ranks to Regional Operations Manager in Yellowknife. David's work with CBC became a passion in his life for 27 years. CBC staff was family, the station a second home, and David a champion for CBC Northern Services. A celebration of life will be held in Yellowknife on Thursday, March 5 at 1:30 pm. Besides her husband, she is survived by four children; Cindy Keating (David), Miramichi, Shirley Riordan (John), Pokeshaw, Kevin Barry (Heather), Fergus, Ont, and Shaughnessy Barry, (Tania), Toronto; Five sisters; Mary Ramsay, Fredericton, Rita O'Connell, Vancouver, Ann Miller, Marion Fitzpatrick (Thomas), and Karen Russell of Miramichi. ROSICKI, Aili January 13, 1936 February 27, 2009 - Aili Rosicki passed away on Friday, February 27, 2009 at the Teck Pioneer Residence at the age of 73 years. Aili was born on January 13, 1936 and was a life long resident of Kirkland Lake. She was extremely proud of her Finnish heritage and was a member of the Finnish Lutheran Church. Aili enjoyed spending time outdoors blueberry picking, drives in the country and spending quality time with her late husband Arnold. She always remained proud of her sons whom she adored and her feline companions later in life. A few of her interests included sewing and reading. She will be dearly missed by her family, many old and dear friends and everyone that knew her. Aili was predeceased by her husband Arnold; parents Arne and Ida Hanalainen; sister Annie Hanalainen and brothers John and Sulo Hanalainen. She is survived by her sons Brian and his wife Diane of Matheson and Bob and his wife Tina of Kirkland Lake; daughter Judy and husband Ed of Kirkland Lake; grandchildren Arla, Dillon, Andrew, Samantha and Erica. Mrs. Sheila Monica Dolores Latter September 8, 1924 - February 20, 2009 LATTER (Wingfield), Sheila Monica Dolores 84, passed away February 20, 2009, in Dartmouth General Hospital, after a very memorable life. Born September 8, 1924, in Camborne, Cornwall, England, she was a daughter of Elizabeth "May" Moffat Wingfield, and Alfred Henry Wingfield. She is survived by her loving husband, Edward "Ned" Latter; sons, James and Phil (Tosca) Latter; daughters, Gail (Allan) Munroe, Janet (Ron) Latter Wilmot, Carol Latter, Susan (Daryl) Latter Glenham; sisters, Anne (Ron) Davies and Rosemary (Giancarlo) Pini; brother, Bob Wingfield and adoptive sister, Dorothy Murphy. She will be greatly missed by grandchildren, Erin, Andrea, Jordan, Jenna, Oliver, Max, Nicholas, Celia, Thomas, Marissa and great-grandson, Tyler. Sheila was predeceased by her youngest son, Christopher Latter, and by her parents, her brother Nigel (Jo Anne) Wingfield; sisters, Hazel Wingfield and Josie Rayan, and adoptive sister, Olive Nagle. During the Second World War, Sheila joined the British WRENs (Women's Royal Naval Service) in 1942 at the age of 17, and her voyages took her to exotic locales, like Australia, Ceylon, and Singapore. Following the war, she worked in communications at the famed Scotland Yard before emigrating to Canada in March 1948 aboard the ocean liner Empress of Canada, arriving at Pier 21. Before settling in Halifax, she lived briefly in Westphal with her adoptive family, Dorothy "Nanny" Barker and her children, whom Sheila also considered to be her real sisters and brothers. The family included Olive, Dorothy, Lillian, Mick, Bev, Graham and Leslie Robinson. Soon after moving to Halifax, Sheila met her husband, Ned, whom she married in June 1951. They lived in Herring Cove and Yarmouth before moving to Dartmouth. Their family grew to include seven children, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Sheila loved to read, paint, and spend time with family and friends. She inspired all of us with her courage, love, and strength of character. Her intelligence, sense of humour and total devotion to family will forever be remembered. Sheila will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. The life lessons she taught us, her sense of adventure and her unwavering support for those she loved will continue to be cherished. Her family traditions and strong principles are her legacy to us all. Visitation will take place today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., and on Wednesday, February 25 from 1-1:45 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville. The funeral service will take place in the same location at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25, with burial in the nearby Gate of Heaven Cemetery, followed by a reception in Atlantic Funeral Home. BRUCE, Samuel "Esson" October 18, 1917 - February 27, 2009 The family is saddened to announce the passing of Samuel Esson Bruce of Calgary on Friday, February 27, 2009 at the age of 91 years. Esson was the third son of Samuel E. Bruce Sr. and Isabella Finlayson Gilmour Bruce, born on October 18, 1917 in Saskatoon. Early in 1942 he went to Washington, D.C. where he spent four years with the Australian War Supplies Commission and where he had the good fortune to meet Betty during that time. In 1946, they were married and went to live in Montreal where Esson had a career in Research and Product Development with Dominion Textile until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of a number of societies involved with Textile research in Canada and the United States. Betty and Esson moved to Oakville living there until 1995 when they came to Calgary to be near Susan and Joe. Esson was the beloved husband of Betty Annabel Gardner and the very proud father of Susan Elizabeth Hunter RN (Joe). He was predeceased by both parents; his infant son, David Esson Bruce (1947); his two brothers, William and James and his sister, Margaret. MILVAIN, Robert Elliot Hogarth August 18, 1933 - February 26, 2009 Robert Elliot Hogarth Milvain of Edmonton passed away on February 26, 2009 aged 75 years, he will be sadly missed by his daughters Emily Milvain, Elizabeth (Tom) Feiler and his grandchildren Grace and Ruby Feiler. Robert was predeceased by his wife Ruth Elizabeth Milvain nee Cope and their son Jimmy Milvain. Born in Calgary, the only son of Mr. Justice JVH Milvain and his wife Edwina, Garth loved the ranchlands of Alberta, and was happiest on horseback. He spent his career at the University of Alberta, and in retirement, enjoyed volunteering at Fort Edmonton, bringing Alberta's ranching history to life on 1885 Street. Mrs. Dorothy Mabel Kennedy May 16, 1920 - February 20, 2009 KENNEDY, Dorothy Mabel (nee Clarke). Born May 16, 1920 in Burk’s Falls, Ontario, and long time Amherstburg resident, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on February 20, 2009. Beloved wife of 67 years to Murray J. Kennedy, Amherstburg. Loving mother of Lynn and Norm Talbot, and Dan and Linda Kennedy all of Amherstburg. Will be sadly missed by her four grandsons David (Aimée) Talbot, Whitby; Paul (Shelley) Talbot, Amherstburg; Trevor Kennedy (fiancée Samantha Cowell) and Jonathan Kennedy (friend Andrea Antonucci), Amherstburg; and will be fondly remembered by her four great-granddaughters, Lauryn, Kyarra, Chantal and Jordan Talbot. Predeceased by her parents Albert (1978) and Emily (Cutler) Clarke (1972); sisters Marguerite (1998) (Robert 1996) Gregory; and Ruth (1966) (Ron) Harding. Sister-in-law of Ruby (Kennedy) Stone, Mississauga and pre-deceased by eleven Kennedy-in-law siblings. Dorothy will be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, relatives and numerous friends. Mrs Anne Hall October 17, 1921 - February 19, 2009 Anne Hall of Regina died peacefully on Thursday, February 19, 2009 surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her father and mother Vincent and Nellie Olchoway; husband Beverly Hall; grandson Christopher; and brothers Carl and Peter Olchoway. She is survived by her children Larry (Donna), Don (Andrea) and Linda (Sam); grandchildren Michael (Diana), Kenton (Angela) and Colin (Sarah); great grandchildren Sandra, Laura, Daniel, Elijah and Loa; brother Joseph (Iris) and sister-in-law Lesia Olchoway. Anne was born to Ukrainian and Polish parents who settled in Humboldt, SK. The eldest of four children and the only girl, Anne grew up in a loving and welcoming family. Anne married Beverly Hall, also of Humboldt, on September 1, 1940. Shortly after their wedding, Bev shipped out with the South Saskatchewan Regiment to fight in the European Campaign. Anne continued to live with her parents until her husband returned from the war. In 1952 the Saskatchewan Power Corporation transferred Anne and Bev’s family to Prince Albert. In 1963 the family was transferred again to Regina, where all but daughter Linda and grandson Michael still reside. Although Anne stayed home with her children while they were growing up, she worked on a part-time basis from 1968-78 and cared for several neighbourhood children in her home. Anne was actively involved with her church, loved bowling, bridge, bingo, knitting, photography, Scrabble, crossword puzzles and most of all her family and family events. Anne was a devoted mother, dedicated wife and dutiful daughter who always put her family’s needs first. A PRIVATE SERVICE OF REMEMBRANCE was held on February 23, 2009 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Jeff Tank officiating. Internment and a celebration of Anne’s life will take place in Humboldt in May. Memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan Inc., 301 2550 12th Ave., Regina, Sask., S4P 3X1. Mrs. Norma June Spurling May 22, 1927 - February 20, 2009 Spurling, June June slipped away in the early hours of Feb 20. Born in Comox May 22 1927, June was predeceased by Husband Roger in 1995, Sister Nonie Alexander in 1999, Brother Rob and Wife Charyl in 2007. She is survived by her children Eric (Marilyn), Sabrina (Mark), Ian (Lucia) as well as grandchildren Andy (Ingrid), Kristina (Brad), Tiffany (Julien), Marie, Chantal, Emma, Colin, Chelsea and Hannah and by great grandchildren Isaac, Tyler, (and one due any day now). June also leaves her sisters Isabel (Bob) Vroom, Gladys Misson, brother Norm (Marion) Flinton and brother in law Dave Alexander. June moved to Victoria during the war years and to Colwood in 1951 where she and Roger opened Colwood Pharmacy, the first Pharmacy in the area. June was an active member of the Anglican Church Community in Colwood, serving in many capacities over 50 years until she developed Alzheimer’s in 2002. Always helping others, there are many who have benefited from her kindness and generosity. She was a true lady, gentle and gracious, who was deeply devoted to her family and friends. She taught us to appreciate each day no matter what it may bring. She will be sorely missed but her lessons of love tolerance and kindness will live on in our hearts and memories. The family would like to thank; Mum's special care worker Noni, of Knowing Heart Home Service, for her amazing compassion and care over these past few years, as well as Sheila from Knowing Heart for her wonderful care in the earlier years together with the excellent second floor staff of Beacon Hill Villa for their care and kindness. A celebration of June's life will be held on Friday, Feb 27th at 1pm at the Church of the Advent, 510 Mt View Avenue in Colwood.
