Mr. Grant Alfred Compton August 28, 1941 - February 20, 2009 It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Grant Compton at Concordia Hospital on February 20, 2009, at the age of 67 years. Grant is survived by his loving daughter Allyson (Tery) Hyde and granddaughters Jenilyn, Kelsey, of Winkler, also daughters Colleen (Randy) Jardine, Charlene (Norm) LaBoeuf, Halifax and soul mate Dolores. He also leaves to mourn brother Charles (Linda), Salmo, B.C., sisters Judy (Rod) Ewen, Pleasant Valley, MB, Heather Compton, Vancouver, B.C. as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his mother Kathleen and father Jack Compton. Born in Winnipeg in 1941 and raised in Austin, MB, Grant started his working career as an orderly at Deer Lodge Hospital, then moved to the “Society for Manitobans with Disabilities” where he enjoyed helping people. He will always be remembered for his gentle, caring and kind disposition.alifax and Grant’s greatest passion was playing his fiddle. He was a natural, first playing in an old time band, The Austin Melodiers, and later playing with the Southglen Fiddlers. Mrs. Josephine (Jo) Kalley - February 20, 2009 Passed away peacefully on Friday, February 20, 2009. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Fredrick Kalley, and her brothers Archie, Carl, and Fred. She is now reunited with her daughter Caroline, who passed away at the tender age of four months. She is survived by her son John (Jean), daughter Arlene (John), grandchildren Lisa (Jeremy), Bryan, Ian, Patty (Dan) and Cristina, great-grandchildren Sebastien, Kaiya, and Dominic, brothers Ray (Vivian) and Don (Maryanne) Haynes. Jo’s family and friends were a great source of joy in her life. Her spirit emanated unconditional love, positive inner strength, serenity and grace. These qualities touched the lives of all who knew her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 27, 2009 at 10:30 am at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 4451 Williams Rd., Richmond, B.C. A reception will follow in the Church Hall. Mr. Michael Christopher Delisle September 27, 1978 - February 20, 2009 30 years, unexpectedly, on February 20, 2009. Cherished and loving son of Ron and Barbara (nee Price). Loving brother of Jill and husband Chris Bergeron. Uncle to Tori and Tevan. Dear grandson of Bernice and the late William Price; the late Lloyd and Bernadette Delisle (nee Dupuis). WARDROPER, Wilfrid Kenneth January 12, 1922 - February 26, 2009 In Victoria, B.C. Predeceased by beloved wife Nancy (nee Wilson). Cherished by sons Lawrence and Andrew (Ottawa, Ontario). Brother of John Wardroper (London, UK). Ken was born near Duncan, B.C., and lived in Cowichan Station until 1939, when he joined the Canadian Army upon the outbreak of WWII. He served with the Canadian Scottish Regiment during the Normandy invasion and the liberation of Holland. He attained the rank of Captain with the regiment and was invalided out of the service when seriously wounded for the second time in April 1945. A lengthy recovery followed, after which he joined the Department of External Affairs as a foreign service officer. He served his country in this capacity for a further 37 years, his last overseas posting being Norway, where he held the position of Ambassador. He followed his public service by joining the Council of Canadians, determined to preserve the country and people he loved, and led the Council as interim leader after the resignation of its founder, Mel Hurtig. His career, like his life, was the result of single-minded devotion to those things that mattered the most, his family, and his duty to his country. He saw obstacles as opportunities to achieve great things. He will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held in Victoria on Wednesday, March 4 at 10:30 a.m. in McCall Bros. BABONAU, Jessie Halliday McGregor (nee Don) October 23, 1928 - February 24, 2009 Jessie, who was born in Glasgow, Scotland, passed away peacefully in Calgary on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 in her 81st year, with family by her side. Jessie has gone to be with Hector, her loving husband of sixty years who predeceased her in December 2008. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her sons, Bob (Bobbie), Graham, Craig (Sandy), Don (Laurie); her grandchildren, Corina (Nick) Jackson, Justin, Kyle, Cody, Christy, Hayley, Shannon and Steven Babonau and Jennifer and Andrew Thompson; her great-grandsons Tayler, Tanner and Chase Jackson and Dylan Thompson; extended family in Montreal and Calgary and numerous relatives in Scotland, including surviving siblings, John, George, Duncan and Eleanor and their families. GEORGE, Elizabeth Violet (nee Yee Yum) February 28, 1920 - February 27, 2009 Elizabeth Violet George of Calgary passed away on Friday, February 27, 2009 at the age of 88 years. Elizabeth was born February 28, 1920 in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan and raised in Regina. Elizabeth enjoyed a long career with the Alberta Provincial Government as a social worker. She dedicated her life to the care of children, serving as president of Child Find of Alberta and Canada. Elizabeth was also president of Sien Lok Society and volunteered many hours for the Arthritis Society. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great and great-great-grandmother, aunt and friend to many. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew her. Elizabeth is survived by her son, Norman (Arleen) Patrick of Regina, SK, and daughters, Emilie (Allan) Onagi of Calgary, AB, and Sharon (J.R.) Vanchu of Seattle, WA; as well as six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Lorette Hébert 1944-2009 A l'Hôpital régional Dr-Georges-L-Dumont de Moncton, le dimanche 1 mars 2009, est décédée suite à une courte maladie, à l'âge de 64 ans, Lorette Hébert, domiciliée à Shédiac, mais autrefois de Scoudouc. Née le 20 août 1944 à Scoudouc, elle était fille de feu Edouard et Evelyn (Melanson) Vautour. Lorette a travaillée à la Résidence O'Bons Soins à Shédiac avant sa retraite. Elle était membre du club d'âge d'or de Scoudouc. Elle laisse dans le deuil ses deux filles: Charline Hébert (Danny Alderman) de Saint-Jean et Marie-Anne Melanson (Roland Cormier) de Scoudouc; deux frères: Françis Vautour (Clara) de Toronto, ON et Georges Vautour (Lise Duguay) de Boudreau Ouest; deux petites-filles: Mélanie Melanson et Catie Alderman, une amie spéciale Diane Fougère de Shédiac, ainsi que plusieurs nièces, neveux, et ami(e)s. Un frère Léonard Vautour l'a précédée dans la tombe. La dépouille mortelle est exposée à compter de 14h, le mardi 3 mars, à la Maison funéraire Frenette ltée, 396, rue Main à Shédiac (532-3297). MacWilliam, Shirley In celebration of the life of Shirley MacWilliam 23 April 1935 - 20 February 2009 Shirley's motto was "L'Art avant toute chose." "Art above all else." As a leading entrepreneur of the Arts, Shirley's 64 Salons of Art & Design/vernissages showcased the works of countless budding talents as well as established artists, and were often the catalyst for their subsequent success. These events, often held in her own home, were designated in support of selected charities such as Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres, CODE, CHEO, and Literacy to name but a few, and also several Ottawa missions. Trained in fashion and design, Shirley's talent and compassion meant that she was sought after by young artists setting out their exhibitions, and by seasoned professionals for advice on interior design. Shirley was a passionate lover of good (Classical!) music, especially chamber music, organ and choral works. She was a devotee of opera, ballet and figure skating, and was also involved with the NAC from it's inception. Shirley was a well-loved regular at the National Gallery as well as at many of the smaller galleries around Ottawa and Montreal. In Montreal, she held charity salons at the Canadian House for Architecture, and was an energetic organizer of a home for unmarried mothers with AIDS. Shirley was a tireless leading light not only in the Arts world in Ottawa and Montreal, but in the community in general. She brought joy and energy into the lives of every individual with whom she dealt, and gave of herself not for payment but from the heart. Shirley's prime objectives were the inclusion of music and literacy in the education of young children, and respect for the dignity of the human being. Shirley will be sorely missed by all who knew her, but she will be remembered for her contribution to the Arts and her passion for the well-being of all people, especially the young. These gifts will continue to flourish throughout the years, as she intended. Shirley MacWilliam is survived by her husband of 53 years, John MacWilliam, and by her daughter Carmelia who now resides in Australia. Please do not send flowers. TONER, Sister Francesca, CSJ (Sister Mary Francesca) Sister Francesca passed away peacefully on February 26, 2009 at the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse, Pembroke, ON. She was in the 62nd year of her religious life. She was born in Portage du Fort, Quebec, a daughter of the late Alice (Tanguay) and Herbert Toner. Left to mourn her loss and celebrate her life among us are her Sisters in the Congregation, and her sister Flora (Tymchuk) as well as much loved nieces and nephews and their families. She is predeceased by her brothers Philip (Frank) and William. Sr. Francesca began her health care career in Radville, Saskatchewan eventually obtaining diplomas as an X-ray Technologist and Lab Technician. She continued her career in Barrhead, Alberta until, in 1968 she took the position of Supervisor of Laboratory and Radiology Departments in Barry's Bay. She continued this supervisory position at the Pembroke General Hospital and then at the Petawawa Medical Center. Following her 27-year career in Health Care she changed her ministry to Pastoral Care spending a year at Tee Lake, Quebec. She returned to Pembroke and worked in Community Services from 1978 until 1986. In the latter years she continued to be of service to her Congregation at the Motherhouse in Pembroke where she helped out in the Infirmary. In retirement, sister was a talented knitter and seamstress, making crafts for the annual craft sales to raise funds for our Peruvian Mission. She was most grateful for her call to Religious Life and her unique relationship with God in the person of Jesus. Visitation at St. Joseph's Motherhouse, Pembroke on Monday, March 2nd starting at 4:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 3rd, at 10:30 a.m. at the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse. BERARD, Irene (née Fauvelle) - 1915- 2009 - The family announces with great sorrow her peaceful death at the age of 93. Loving wife of the late Ernest Berard (1980). Dear mother of the late Richard Berard (2008), Patricia Onotsky and Andre Berard both of Timmins. Sadly missed by grandchildren, Richard Berard (Sharon) of North Bay, Susan Peattie (Al) of Surrey, BC, Nicole Raiche (Joanne Mahon) of Stoney Creek, Michel Raiche (Diane) of Timmins, Sean Berard of Sudbury, Shannon Berard- Gardiner (Chris) of Pense, SK, Ryan of Timmins, great-grandchildren, Mathieu, Steven, Paul, Michelle, Madisen and Bryce. Survived by daughter-in-law Ruth Berard of Englehart. Predeceased by parents, Wilfrid and Melvina Fauvelle, brothers, Wilfrid, Paul, Arthur and Victor Fauvelle, sisters, Yvonne Allaire, Aurore Allaire, Edmee Giroux, sons- in-law, Hubert Raiche and Ken Onotsky. Irene raised her family and obtained her nursing assistant certificate in her early 50's. She took great pride in the 20 years she spent working in the nursery at St. Mary's Hospital (Timmins). Her sense of humour and her unconditional love for her family is what made her so special in our hearts. Eric Louis Raffoul March 9, 1994 - February 17, 2009 Our precious angel passed away on February 17, 2009 at Windsor Regional Hospital, Metropolitan Campus surrounded by his family at the age of 14 years. Cherished and loving son of Lou and Lisa (nee Nagy). Loving brother of Adam and Aaron. Cherished grandson of Joe and the late Jean Nagy and the late Bakhous and Milia Raffoul. Dear nephew of Louise and Don Williams, Susan and Tony George, Sam and Lina Raffoul, Ava and Roy Bos, Rose and Tim Kuli, Diane and Dave Dimenna. He will be sadly missed by many cousins. The family would like to thank all of Eric's support workers and Dr. Awuku for all of their love and care. Eric graduated from St. Peter's School and attended Grade 9 at St. Anne High School. Eric lived life to the fullest and inspired strength in all who knew him. Mrs. Irene Brown November 1, 1914 - February 17, 2009 Mrs. Irene Brown passed away peacefully at the Herb Bassett Home on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at the age of 94 years. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 20, from River Park Memorial Chapel. Reverend Rick Martin will officiate. She was born in Kent, England, immigrated to Canada in 1925 and was married to Bill in 1936. Irene is survived by her loving family: her children Wilfred Brown, Ken (Sharon) Brown, Marilyn (Roger) Linfitt, Charlie (Donna) Brown, Sharon (Keith) Bacon; her 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. BROWNRIGG, Raymond Thomas January 20, 1961 - February 04, 2009 Loving son to Evelyn and the late Tom Brownrigg. Cherished brother, uncle, friend. One of many first cousins. A philosophical and gentle, loving soul to all who knew him. Ray appreciated all living things and could often be found nursing broken plants and animals back to health with a relentless patience. We will miss the profound insights and humour he shared with us; How he could turn a simple walk into a journey in the wild; How he listened, observed and played; the calm we felt sitting in a room next to him. Ray will continue to exist in nature and in our remembrances of him. We will be forever thankful for the time he shared with us.
