Mr. Tony Cecchetti June 6, 1931 - January 15, 2009 On Janaury 15, 2009 Mr. Tony Cecchetti of Sherwood Park passed away peacefully with family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. Tony is lovingly remembered by his wife Margaret, his two sons Robert (Lisa) and Michael (Christine), six grandchildren; Kara, Jenny, Nicole, Ashley, Jessica and Jayden, his brother Mario (Mima) Cecchetti as well as many nephews, nieces and friends. Tony was predeceased by his son Mark in 2003. A celebration of Tony's life will be held on Thursday January 22, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church, 5420 - 19A Avenue, Edmonton. Tony's final resting place will be at Glenwood Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Arthur Edward "Ted" Byrnes June 5, 1941 - January 15, 2009 BYRNES, ARTHUR EDWARD "TED". Passed away at the Belleville General Hospital after a short courageous battle with liver disease. Loving husband of Shirley (Littler). Ted will be sadly missed by oldest daughter Penny Byrnes-Lamer (Rick) and grandchildren Kade Walsh, Leighton, Tannen and Warner Fritz-Lamer of Napanee. Sadly missed also by youngest daughter Tammy Meulenaar and grandchildren Grayden Meulenaar and Cameron Wilson. Fondly thought of by step-children Scott Hume of Belleville and Anne Levesque (John) and her children Olivia, Amber, Dalton and Bronson of Rockland, Ontario. Lovingly remembered by brothers Rick (Judi), Robert (Liz), Gord (Phyllis) and sister Kathy Warner (Kirby) all of the greater Toronto area. Ted leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well. Singing pals, Sue, Deb and Barb will miss the song nights singing with Ted. Predeceased by both parents Robert Byrnes and Frances (Dunbar), and first wife Marjorie (Thompson). HOGAN, Alice Gwendolen (Olson) Alice Gwendolen Hogan (Olson) passed away on January 19, 2009 at 85 years of age. Alice was predeceased by her husband Colm, father John, mother Anna, brother Arne and two sisters-in-law, Lilian and Betty. Alice is survived by brothers Julien and Ralph (Noreen), and sisters Marie and Edna Crook (Bill), fifteen nieces and nephews, eleven great and two great-great-nieces and nephews. Alice grew up on the family farm near Cremona, taught elementary school for many years in Red Deer, retiring while principal of the G.W. Smith Elementary School in 1985. Alice was involved with many boards and organizations in Red Deer during her lifetime all of which were very important to her. As per Alice's request there will be no formal Funeral Service, but when you look at a special sunrise or visit Alice's Grove in Red Deer, please think of her as these were as essential to her life as were her family and friends. MATERI, Lily Lily Materi passed away peacefully at the Mayfair Care Center on January 19, 2009 at the age of 82 years. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters Sharon (Colin) Gilbert; Beverly Materi; son Brian (Lorna) Materi; grandchildren David (Marissa) Gilbert, Sheldon Gilbert, Richard (Kalin) Gilbert, Chris (Melissa) Materi, Brian Materi; great-granddaughter Megan Materi as well as numerous family members. She was predeceased by her husband Pius (Peter) Materi on November 28, 1999. Lily was very proud of her family and use to love watching her grandchildren. On occasion, Lily did some waitressing work. McLEAN, Donald (Don) Clyde July 30, 1919 - January 19, 2009 Donald (Don) Clyde McLean of Calgary passed away on Monday, January 19, 2009 at the age of 89 years. Don was born in Guelph, Ontario on July 30, 1919. He married Margaret (Marg) Webber in 1943 and together they raised a family in Guelph. In 1985 they retired to Calgary where Don was actively involved with the Dalhousie Mennonite Brethren Church as well as Calvary Baptist Church in Guelph. Donald is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Lynn McLean; a daughter and son-in-law, Marney and Bill Burchill; seven grandchildren, Mark, Paul, Scott, Matthew, Brian, Amy and Stephen, all of Calgary. Donald was predeceased by his wife, Margaret in 1998. STEWARD, John December 31, 1936 - January 20, 2009 John Steward, beloved husband of Margaret, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at the age of 72 years. John was born in Chester-le-Street, Co. Durham, England. His work as a mining engineer brought the family to Grande Cache in 1969, then to Calgary, Bogota, Colombia, and back to Calgary again. He was the man who knew how things worked and why, the one to go to for advice and encouragement and he never refused a request for help. His lovely smile, wicked sense of humour, quiet courage and warm presence will be sorely missed. John will be lovingly remembered by his wife of forty-four years, Margaret; daughters, Alison and Lesley (Aboli); grandchildren, Yann and Mariana; as well as many relatives and friends. OBITUARY ANTONIO DE SUA August 13, 1919 - January 21, 2009 Peacefully passed away with dignity and respect with family by his side at the Jewish General Hospital. He will be missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of sixty dedicated years Angelina Caruso DeSua, his daughters Maria and Caterina, sons Giovanni and Vincenzo, daughter-in laws Rosalba and Doriana and grandchildren Cynthia, Anthony, Jonathan, Alexander and Michael. Will be greatly missed by his brothers (late) Francesco, Raffaele, Domenico, Salvatore and their respective families. Born in Calabria Italy, and after surviving WWII, he immigrated to Canada in 1953 with nothing but his wife, son, a suitcase and a hope for a brighter future. A man of honor, honesty and kindness, he led by example and was an inspiration to his children and grandchildren who loved him very much. HERBST, Helga Edith 1936 - 2009 Helga Edith Herbst, born 1936 in Berlin, Germany lost her courageous battle with cancer on January 22, 2009. Helga was the devoted wife, friend, racing partner and soulmate of John whom she married in 1954. Together they immigrated directly to Calgary in 1956. She is survived by her three daughters: Janice Herbst, Nicole/Chicki Herbst, and Tina (Brian) Barry. She is the cherished Oma of Elise (Gordon) Galloway, Travis and Ryan Smithdorf, Brandy, Lucas and Zack DeVries; as well as the Great Oma of Rein and Austin DeVries. Helga is also survived by her sister, Waltraut Gurisch and several nieces, nephews and extended family in Berlin, Germany. Helga will be dearly missed by those many friends whose loyalty and companionship will forever be cherished by the family. "You can let off the throttle now, Helga, you've reached the finish line!" SAVOIE, Louise - R.N. 1906-2009 A la Villa Providence de Shédiac, le vendredi 23 janvier 2009, à l' âge de 102 ans, est décédée Louise Savoie. Née le 19 février 1906 à Jay Bridge, Maine, elle était fille de feu Mathias et Osithe (Doiron) Savoie. Elle laisse dans le deuil une soeur, Irène Malenfant de Memramcook, deux belles-soeurs: Léa Savoie de Dieppe et Noëlla Savoie de Salem, MA, ainsi que plusieurs nièces et neveux. Elle est précédée dans la tombe par ses frères et soeurs: Agnès, Élise, Sr. Lodianne, Marie, Yvonne, Gérard, Albénie, Michel et Nazaire. Louise a été une des quatre premières infirmières diplômées de l'Hôpital l'Hôtel-Dieu de l'Assomption de Moncton en 1930. Elle était une infirmière très dévouée et a consacré sa vie entière au bien-être de ses patients. Elle a pratiqué sa profession d'infirmière au sein de plusieurs milieux dont l'Hôpital général de Verdun à Montréal, l'Hôpital Boisvert Mémorial de Baie-Comeau, l'Hôpital du Très Saint-Rédempteur à Montréal et au Canadien National à Montréal et Moncton. Elle a terminée sa carrière à Shédiac comme directrice des services infirmiers à la Villa Providence. En 1946, elle a accompagné un groupe de jeunes chanteuses acadiennes en Louisianne et a formé un lien d'amitiés avec les gens de cet état. Elle a reçu un certificat de citoyenneté hononaire de Lafayette en 1964, qui fut reconnu à l'hôtel de Ville de Moncton par les maires de Moncton et Shédiac. Elle était aussi une artiste talentueuse et ses peintures étaient toujours receherchées par les organisateurs d'expositions dans la région. Elle aimait beaucoup la musique classique et a tissé des liens d'amitié avec de nombreux artistes acadiens dont Claudette LeBlanc, les soeurs Marie-Germaine et Marguerite LeBlanc et le violoniste Arthur LeBlanc. La dépouille mortelle est exposée à la Maison funéraire Frenette ltée, 396, rue Main à Shédiac (532-3297). Les funérailles auront lieu en l'église Saint-Joseph de Shédiac, le mardi, 27 janvier 2009, à 11h. L'inhumation se fera dans le cimetière paroissial. Heures de visites: le lundi 26 janvier, de 14h à 16h et de 19h à 21h, le mardi 27 janvier, de 10h jusqu'à l'heure du départ 10h50. CIOTTI, Carmen - 1941-2009 - The family announces with sorrow his death after a short courageous battle with cancer on Thursday January 22, 2009, at the age of 67. Beloved husband of Veronica (nee Moyle). Loving father of Brock Ciotti (Lisa), Giammarc Ciotti (Shantya) and Teha Ciotti (Matt) of Banff, AB. Chrished grandfather of Chiara. Carmen is survived by his brother Vasco Ciotti (Christy), his niece Marisa Bedard (Brad) and their children Hayden and Dexter and by his mother-in-law Phyllis Moyle. He is predeceased by his parents Gennario and Adina. Carmen was a graduate of Ryerson Institute in Finance. Carmen was self employed as a General Contractor. He also worked at the MacIntyre and Dome Mines. He was a lifetime member of the Porcupine Dante Club. He loved and enjoyed his Bocce nights. A funeral service will be held on Saturday January 24, 2009 at 11 am at Sacred Heart Church. Interment will follow. RECOSKIE, Mr. Howard Charles - 1935- 2009 - It is with sadness that the family announces his death at the Lady Minto Hospital in Cochrane on Thursday, January 22nd, 2009 at the age of 73. Beloved and loving husband of 53 years to Cecile (nee Lavoie) Recoskie and dearest father of Joyce Recoskie, Marion Recoskie and Mark (Cathy) Recoskie. Cherished grandfather of Christina (Roy) Doucette, Robert Recoskie, Dillon, Blake and Brandon Recoskie, Isaac, Adam and Elliot Bonfield, Jake Davitsky and Nicholas Recoskie. Great grandfather of Lucas, Carmen and Cameron. He will be sadly missed by his brothers John (Doris) Recoskie and James (Vera) Recoskie as well as his inlaws: Lucia Recoskie, Henri and Bertha Robin and Andre Lavoie. He will be remembered by his numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Charles and Annie Recoskie, his brother Walter Recoskie as well as his great grandaughter Madisson, Howard was born and raised in Brower.
