LAWTON, Edward Roy (Ted) - With deep regret the family of Edward (Ted) Lawton, announce his passing, in his 76th year, on Monday, December 29th, 2008 at Kingston General Hospital. He had served in the British Army, and upon arrival in Canada, joined the Canadian Navy. He was the founding member of the Frontenac Society of Model Engineers and an original member of the Restoration of Pump House Museum. Ted was a long time employee and fireman for Alcan in Kingston. He is survived by sister, Norah Frankum of England and fondly remembered by many, many close friends here in Kingston and throughout Canada. MOSCHELLA, Zelinda 2009-01-14 Mrs. Zelinda Moschella, age 77 years, formerly of Toronto, passed away peacefully in Dawson Court on Tuesday, January 13, 2009. Born in Treviso, Italy in 1931, she came to Canada 30 years later. Zelinda settled in the Toronto area and worked for Canada Post in the Sorting Plant. After her retirement, she later came to Thunder Bay in 2004. Zelinda loved to play bingo and was also an avid fan of Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Zelinda will be lovingly remembered by her son Mark (Lila) Moschella; two brothers; and one sister, as well as numerous other relatives. She was predeceased by her parents, Sante and Maria Modanese; one sister and her husband Romano in 1992. Funeral Services for the late Zelinda Moschella will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 16th, 2009 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, presided by Rev. Fr. Alan Albao of Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the time of Service. JANCEWICZ, Thom January 10, 1960 - January 9, 2009 Thom Jancewicz passed away suddenly on January 9, 2009. It is with great sorrow and shock that we announce his passing. He was a most beloved father to two beautiful children, Ellaina Jancewicz and Grant Jancewicz, a devoted son to his most cherished parents, Elise (Betty) Jancewicz (deceased February 13, 2008) and Walter Jancewicz. As well he was a source of strength and inspiration to a dear brother, Peter Jancewicz and sister-in-law, Sue Hlasny, and to a woman he deeply admired, the mother of his 2 children, Gayle Nakamoto. He is survived and will be missed by many relatives in Holland and Montreal. Thom will also be greatly missed by his many long-standing, wonderful friends who were so deeply important to him. Thom loved music, a good party, a good joke, spicy food, his mother, Betty's incredible cooking, and a great cup of coffee. He will be missed for his wit, intelligence and intense connection with life, family and friends. Scuba diving had recently become his great passion. His many new scuba diving mates became a new family to him sharing the joys and wonders of the deep waters and helping him find a new connection to life. In body Thom is gone to us now but in spirit he will remain and be loved by us all forever. His many fine moments in life and the memory of his many kindnesses to us will continue to inspire and sustain us. He would want his memory to help us all live well, live passionately, love each other and be happy for our remaining days. JOHNSTON, Dianne On January 7, 2009 Dianne Johnston of Ponoka passed away peacefully at the age of 63 years. Dianne was born April 12, 1945 to Joseph and Verle Friestad the youngest of nine children. She lived most of her life in the Dakota area and was an active and respected member of the community. Dianne was a devoted wife, mother, sister and friend. Dianne will be remembered for her beautiful smile, generous spirit and her infectious sense of humor. Dianne is lovingly remembered by her husband of forty-two years, Dale Johnston of Ponoka; daughter Dalene (Andy) Newstead and their children Audrey, Amelia and Elise of Sherwood Park; daughter Michelle Johnston of Edmonton; sisters Violet Hoar, Phyllis Wood, Nola (Dell) Crandell, Eleanor Bakke and Verda (Steve) Egbert and their families; brothers Marvin, Dwight and Myron (Lorraine) Friestad and their families; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. MacRAE, Dr. Roy Allan Dr. Roy Allan MacRAE passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 10, 2009 surrounded by his family. Born in Vanguard, Saskatchewan on September 10, 1930, Roy spent much of his childhood moving around the province with his family. In 1954, he graduated with his degree in pharmacy from the University of Saskatoon. The next year, he married the love of his life, Kathleen Audna Stewart. Shortly after graduating, they moved to Calgary and welcomed a son in 1958 and a daughter in 1960. Roy then moved his family to Edmonton in 1963 to pursue dentistry. In 1966 he welcomed his second daughter. He graduated in 1967 from the University of Alberta. After graduation, they moved back to Calgary where he began a devoted and dedicated dental practice that lasted for forty-one years, continuing right up to his passing. Aside from continuing to practice dentistry, Roy spent much of his spare time at his ranch with his wife up until her passing in 2007. In the past, he has been an accomplished trumpet, violin and bagpipe player and was a member of the Calgary Highlanders for a number of years. He was also a contributing member of the Masons and the Kiwanis Club. His recent hobbies included ship building, movie collecting, gardening, farming, bird watching and photography. Roy had a lively sense of humor and an infectious smile. Roy was the son of Allan and Ellen Bullis (MacRAE) and husband to Kathleen Audna Stewart (MacRAE). He was a brother to David, Robert and Dorothy Jean, father to Allan (Rose), Deanne (Rick) and Susan (Jean Francois), grandfather to Katie, Curtis, Melinda (Rolland) and Bryan, and great-grandfather to Lucas. He will be missed by his family as well as his friends, colleagues and patients. McCALLUM, Marjorie Jane 1927 - 2009 Mrs. Marjorie Jane, beloved wife of Mr. Ronald McCallum of Sylvan Lake, passed away suddenly at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the age of 81 years. Marjorie was born on March 2, 1927 at Winnipeg, Manitoba, where she met and married her husband Ron. Much of their younger years and fond memories were formed at "Webb's Camp" in Laclu, Ontario. Marjorie and Ron moved west to Calgary and purchased a cottage on Sylvan Lake, where they eventually retired. It is here that they continued the tradition with children and grandchildren, enjoying the beauty and peace of lake living. She is survived by her husband Ron; three children Lynn (Ron) Odynski of Edmonton, Alberta, Lawrence (Miranda Cooper) McCallum of Edmonton, Alberta, Diane (Jim) Tomaselli of Golden, British Columbia; seven grandchildren Kirsten, Kelsey and Veronica Odynski, Julianna and Nolan Tomaselli and Trevor and Helena Cooper; one sister Shirley (Jim) Hughes of Toronto, Ontario and one sister-in-law Shirley Hourd. Marjorie is predeceased by her parents, Albert and Jenny Hourd and one brother Wilbert. MILLAR, Margery E. (nee Tarbuck) Margery passed away peacefully on January 8, 2009 at Calgary, AB. She was born April 17, 1912 in Caterham, England and was in her 97th year. She arrived in Canada with her parents, brother and sister when she was one month old, narrowly missing the fate of the "Titanic" passengers when her parents decided not to risk her birth aboard ship and changed their booking date. Margery spent her early years residing in North West Calgary, then married Kenneth Millar in 1934 and together they spent eight years residing at Ghost River Dam, and eighteen years in Banff before returning to Calgary in 1960 where they lived in Altadore River Park for fifteen more years and where Margery continued to enjoy her home until her death. Margery was predeceased by her son Kenneth James in 1941 and husband Kenneth in 1975, and also by her brother Mark and sister Louise. She was a long-time member of St. Marks Phillips Anglican Church and is lovingly remembered by her surviving son Terrence A. Millar who would like to give special thanks to Dr. Wong and staff at the Rockyview Hospital for looking after his mother in her final days. SINCLAIR, Gloria Juliette March 28, 1921 - January 8, 2009 Gloria Juliette Sinclair (nee Day) of Calgary passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at the age of 87 years. Gloria was born on March 28, 1921 in Colinton, AB and grew up in the Peace River Country, the fourth of thirteen children. In 1945 Gloria married Douglas Sinclair and they resided in several rural communities, as Doug worked as a grain buyer for UGG. Gloria and Doug moved to Black Diamond, then the DeWinton area before coming to live in Calgary in 1970. Gloria worked with Doug as a cooks helper for crews in Saudia Arabia and Canada. Gloria accomplished many things throughout her life - she held the distinction of becoming the first female Barber in Alberta in 1943. She had a great love for music and played the steel and acoustic guitar when she was young, and later in life she played the organ. Gloria was also passionate about horses. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Gloria is survived by her daughter Mary Tretiak of Calgary; grandson Wayne (Bonnie) Sherman; and great-grandson Jack of Rockyford, AB; son and daughter-in-law, David and Linda Sinclair of Calgary; sisters, Marianne and Susie; and brother Dennis; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Douglas in 1996; son-in-law Rocky Tretiak; five brothers; and four sisters. The family would like to express our sincere thanks to all the staff of Southwood Intercare for the care and affection they showed towards Gloria. We always knew she would be well cared for and safe. SOGZ, Frederick/Reverend April 22, 1935 - January 10, 2009 Frederick Sogz/Rev. from Calgary passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the age of 73 years. Fred started teaching in 1959 in southern Alberta and retired in 1985. After his retirement Fred entered the seminary and was ordained as a Priest on February 23, 1990 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Calgary. Fred served in several parishes in the Calgary Catholic Diocese and in the Nelson Diocese in British Columbia. Fred enjoyed the outdoors particularly canoeing and walking his dog Lexie. Fred is survived by his loving children, Ruth and Dave Hession, Michael and Linda Sogz, Anne and Doug Smith, Mary and Real Sogz-McDuff, Donna Sogz and John McQueen; grandchildren, Steven, Dale and Dean Hession, Leanne and Kelli Smith, Jessica Kemp; Fred is also survived by a brother: Mervin and Sharon Sogz. SMITH, Mary - Passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Deep River District Hospital after a brief illness, in the presence of her loved ones. Mary, known to her family as the “wee Grams,“ was born in Falkirk, Scotland in 1923 and immigrated to Canada in 1946. A war bride, the wee Grams was predeceased by her husband Richard M. Smith of Thunder Bay, Ontario and later Petawawa; her devoted daughter Donna Crocker of Petawawa; brother David Greig of Thunder Bay, Ontario; and Isabelle Dick of Falkirk, Scotland. The wee Grams will be lovingly remembered and profoundly missed by her grandsons Richard Crocker of Petawawa; Stephen Crocker (Sara Lapointe) of Pembroke; granddaughter Kristen Crocker (Dominic Somma) of Wainwright, Alberta; son-in-law Allan Crocker of Petawawa; sister Winifred Johnston and Jack Hunter of Falkirk, Scotland; brother James (Helen) Greig of Stenhousemuir, Scotland and many nieces, nephews and friends. The wee Grams' greatest pride and joy came from her beloved great-grandchildren whom she cherished and adored.
